Notification Shade/Quick Settings Mod? - AT&T HTC One (M8)

I wonder if there is a way to have it where you swipe on the right hand side of the notification shade to bring down the quick settings instead of having to use two fingers?
I believe the tablets have this option and not sure if this can be done to our beautiful device

There's no device setting for that. I'm sure once rom development starts to pick up more and you have root, there will be an option for that like there was on the m7.

[APP] zMooth use gestures to replace hardware keys

zMooth works on nook's with rooted android 2.2+.
zMooth lets you use gestures to mimic your device's hardware keys (back, home, menu and power(in Pro)), you will be able to use very intuitive gestures to navigate your device.
zMooth is unobtrusive and uses minimum amount of screen space but very easy and intuitive to use. If you use for couple of days you won't even think about using the buttons.
After you install the app you will see a blue area at the bottom of the screen, swipe left on this area to go back, swipe right for menu, gesture a up-arrow(^) for home and gesture a lightning strike/thunderbolt to power off. Please check the screen shots and video for more info.

Support is built-in to the app, "Preferences->Help" will resolve most issues. If not resolved just contact me through "Preferences->Help->Contact Support" and I will be happy to resolve any issues.
Thanks.
it works, its kinda cool but being able to move the gesture area would be great
Can you provide screenshot of your nook, never tested on it so was wondering on how it looks.
Would you mind if I use your screenshot in other places? (hope your screenshot doesn't show any personal details)

Really awesome application. I'm the kind who can't stand having soft buttons popping out by the side. This works wonderfully for me. Didn't know how to use it at first though. There should be a quick guide in this app without having to connect to the internet to view the FAQ.
However, with that said, this is still awesome. Love it.
WOW! I'd say I spend about 1/1000th of my time on XDA in the themes and apps section...Now..in one day..the sense icons for settings..the honeycomb style softkeys are here (which are awesome..but now obsolete IMO...because of THIS! this is EPIC!)...It took me about 1 minute to get so comfortable w this that I completely hid my dockbar and statusbar...Now I have ALLmy screen real estate, except for a thin blue line at the bottom of my screen that does it all. This is going straight on my EVO...and I'd bet you start seeing something like this on factory releases or at least as an option. A very simple yet brilliant idea. It actually makes me feel a little bit sad for Murdock...he accomplished so much for CM7 in SO little time..and now this comes along.TRY this NOW.

It's OK but interferes with stuff on the bottom - there should be an option to move the swiping area. Also, it doesn't always register touches.
Wow!!!
Sounds awesome, i'm trying this straight away
Looks like I won't be having to double click my home screen button anymore
+1 for being able to move the swipe area. I don't like gestures over my dock.
Yeah, I Sent an Email
to the developers to enable the gesture area to be moved - until the app is useless and will probably get hammered on ratings in the market. I'm giving it one star until they do this.

You don't Even NEED to use the launcher's dock...that's why there's an option for losing it under a launcher's settings....Eliminate the dock...Put a shortcut or action butons to whatever you want on either side of the "thin blue line", and you're golden. The gesture area can be adjusted to where its about a third of the size of a dockbar anyway, so I don't really understand that issue...I set my swipe options to hide/unhide my notification bar (which now lives at the top)..so my end results look like these before and after shots: From A to B to C....Who likes C?

Moving of swipe area is under development in Pro version. I wanted to make the moving very intuitive/configurable so it's taking time.
To people who are threatning with 1 * rating, you are just being mean.

Awesome app, got the pro verison. Keep up the good work.
1 bug to report. When modifying the display of the bar, values seem to constantly reset when going into the sliders, though the physical bar won't change itself until you return. You might want to make the sliders default to the currently set points when entering the screen.

I get what you are saying, but it's a to each his own thing. Maybe some people REALLY like their docks. I actually do hide my dock, but I don't want to have to do all of my gestures on the bottom of the screen. I already use gestures in ADW. Swipe up for notifications (notification bar on the bottom), swipe down for my app drawer. I would like to use this app for side to side gestures, and preferably I would like the gestures to take place somewhere in the center.
..and windroidHD, just to be clear. Your app is awesome. I would just like to see the additional functionality. It sounds like you're on top of it, and I gladly await the arrival of a pro version that will allow me to move the swipe area.
regarding why it's at the bottom of the screen to start with...
Why not left?. because when you think about back, intuition is to swipe back, if gesture area is on left side then you can't swipe left as your finger will move out of screen and gesture can't be recognized.
Why not right?, same as above but for menu.
Why not top?, If it's at the top then your hand has to obstruct the screen and do a gesture at the top of screen, this breaks the visual link of your eyes with screen.
Google knew that they made a mistake with android hardware buttons, that's why honeycomb has fewer hardware buttons and soft buttons at the bottom.
The "standard" way of designing in android seems to be let user configure everything and figure out the layout of app, that to me is absolute crap. Developer has to think what makes most sense and let the user not worry and do trial and error out the position of gesture area.
That said, I don't have nook so I don't know the general workflow on it. Configuration of position still under development.

I understand if it sounded like I was "not giving credit", but do you see why I picked bottom to start with?. On contrary to not giving credit I have added options in the first Pro version itself to let user pick his colors and size which suits their theme and finger size.
Can you let me know which of my points about position are incorrect?, may be I am wrong, but which one will work for nook workflow?.
Thanks.

Any way to show notifications from the bottom up?

Coming from phones with smaller screens, I like to be able to drag down the notification bar enough to see who the email is from or what the notification is about, without having to pull it all the way down and back up. With the bigger screen on the EVO LTE, I'm wondering if there is a way to show the notifications starting at the bottom, so I can see them with only a slight pull on the bar, instead of having to drag all the way down.
Anyone know? Don't think it matters, but I'm on Meanrom 1.4 with S-Off.
THANKS
When CM9 or 10 is available to us you can enable tablet mode and it will place your notification bar on the bottom.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
You can just flick the notification bar down, you don't have to drag it the full length of the screen. All it takes is about the width of the bar itself to send it down or back up. I know that's not an answer to your question, but it's an option.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Figure I'd bump this rather than start a new thread. I'd also love to be able to have the notification bar at the bottom of the screen, within easy reach of my thumb without requiring me to fumble with the phone. Is there any sort of standalone mod that will do this while I'm waiting for ParanoidAndroid to eventually (hopefully) make its way to the EVO LTE.
There is a WIP paranoid android ROM in the original development section. Works great and loving the ROM.

Well hey look at that! Thanks for the heads up -- I must've completely missed it.
You could also use a custom launcher and set the 1 finger pull-down to open the notification menu. Though trying to reach the settings and clear button are still impossible unless you have fingers like ET.

Yeah - I've already got it so that it pulls down with a quick swipe. My problem is the location of the Power Controls and the Clear button.
I tried PA on my phone but I didn't like the implementation; it's much better on my n7. Even at the biggest settings, the notification panel is just too small on the Evo.
All I really want is a perfect vertical mirror of the notification bar as it is now. In other words, still full screen, it just swipes upward and all the buttons are at the bottom of the screen. I'm actually a little surprised it's not an existing mod / feature, considering how many massive phones there are now and how many of us don't have spindly alien fingers.

Differences between 4.1 and 4.2

Hi,
it seems the new update (4.2.2) is finally coming to my Xperia tablet Z - wifi (SG312).
I'm a bit hesitant to get it.
So can you, users of 4.2.2, summarize the differences and pros/cons versus the 4.1.2 version?
Big thanks in advance.
Laurent.

Quick summary. Although they say 64GB SD support, from what I hear it had that anyway. They probably mean exFAT.

Quick Settings feature from notification panel.

Multi User Account option now available

Thanks. These are the official and "immediately visible" changes.
I'm interested into the other stuff such as performances, battery usage, bug fixes, new bugs, annoying things (it looks like the centered home button is one when using the keyboard)...
I would advise against installing it, unless you have at least 15cm long fingers!
I'll be reverting back to 4.1, because:
* the new soft buttons in the middle of the screen are hard to use in landscape
* notification bar on top wastes room
* notification bar on top is hard to use
* I see no improvements... only the slightly nicer design of the lock screen
They used a design intended for a phone, not a tablet!

This update is a massive improvement in my opinion, particualry the speed. There is no longer and stuttering on the homescreen. When I left a CPU intensive app and went to the recent apps tray on 4.1, there was a 3/4 second lag that has no vanished.
The on screen keyboard now has a 'thumb' option with a reduced size allowing you to float the keyboard around the screen. Very handy indeed.
I've also seen a big improvement with the speaker quality and after moderate use for several hours since the update, battery life seems improved but difficult to tell at this stage.
Video unlimited now sports a dark look over the previous white.
I have some questions regarding wi-fi performance since my was always a bit on the down side.
Notification bar on top is somewhat bad news for me, since I read a lot (moonreader mostly) and I like every space to be availlabe.
Anyway, could you guys enlighten me a bit?
Open moonreade and open a book on it and tell me if the notification bar is dimmed out or if moon reader cover it up?
And what about wifi?
Please answer me this questions because I love to update stuff and 4.2.2 is availlabe now for me and I am ichting to update but wont do it if it is not an improvement as many are reporting...
Thanks in advance!
I need to ask. For all those who opt not to upgrade because of the new layout of the notifications and soft buttons, will you be staying behind when we get 4.3 and onwards? Sony is obviously not bringing back the tablet UI.

I actually intend to update anyway, just want to know if it will bother me a lot or just a little...
And BTW, how can you be so certain that sony won't bring tablet UI back?
And please, open moonreader and tell me what happens to top notification bar?
I confirmed the 4.2.2 upgrade on my SGP312/Japan version fixed the WiFi drops problem, tested on the same router and S4 WiFi hotspot. Tested for over 24 hours now and ran perfect. For the Centered soft keys problem, I installed a small app "Home Anywhere" to place the keys at left screen when portrait. Worth to try, buddies.

I'm not going to bother with this update. The only thing that's important to me is compatability with a 64GB card, and I've been using one successfully ever since I got it. I really don't want to go to a phone UI on a tablet.
I don't think I'll have an issue with the new UI, but does anyone have any screencaptures of it?
They seem to have fixed the Bluetooth/WiFi issue that Sony was so mute about.....

2nd screen/widgets?

Does the V10 allow you to put a widget on the second screen? It suddenly occurred to me that if I were able to put a zooper widget there then the second screen would be only limited by my imagination...
As far as I can tell, the answer is no.
I wanted to put a flashlight widget on there, and there is no option to put widget.
There is a flashlight option there when main screen is asleep, but when you have it unlocked, its a different set of options.

Thanks for the feedback. Probably not a deal breaker for me, was just curious.
I am surprised there is a lack of customization for this screen. Coming from the note 4 edge, I was used to limited options but with a least a solid set of choices for configuration. Hopefully this will be expanded for my V10
Those hoping for root/custom roms probably have high hopes for unlimited possibilities in regards to the second screen.
I am not looking for root. But I'd like to see what if anything gets added and or changed when LG rolls out the 6.0 update for our pretty little devices. I haven't even played with mine yet its waiting for me to get home from school today. UPS hid it well I hope.

When the main screen is on there is a flashlight in the notification bar when you pull out down. Put the down arrow key in the home touch button section and you have as many steps to the flashlight as you would if you could put a widget in the second screen.

Nope, think you misunderstand or read way too much into my comment. I of course will use the ability that is there. I'd prefer it to be available on the 2nd screen, and I don't care for the look or of the notification pulldown.
I'd say that area is the least attractive part of the whole phone. Of course, that is not going to make me not use the phone either.

It is on the second screen. When the main screen is off you slide from right to left and the flashlight widget is there. Doesn't make sense to have it also on the second screen when the main screen is on since it's in the notification pull down.
Sorry for the misinterpration.
Of all the Android skins I like LG's the best. I've had pretty much all manufacturers.
Of course I would love to have Android exactly the way Google designed it but I haven't seen any device that I like with pure Android.

It makes no sense. Most people are right-handed, so why put the button that gets used more often (Back) in a less accessible position than the one that hardly ever gets used (Recent apps)? Maybe take a hint from Samsung (the most popular Android phone maker) and keep the Back button on the right.

Samsung is all tricked out...
Galaxy Store, Good lock family of apps tops off the nav bar mods.

It makes no sense. Most people are right-handed, so why put the button that gets used more often (Back) in a less accessible position than the one that hardly ever gets used (Recent apps)? Maybe take a hint from Samsung (the most popular Android phone maker) and keep the Back button on the right.

"the one that hardly gets used" - huh? I use the Recents button all the time before turning off the screen. I don't believe in having apps linger there that I only use once a week or even less often, so my Recents get cleared all the time. Plus while I am righthanded I hold my phone with the left hand and navigate/tap with my right ... I've never been someone to use a phone with only 1 hand.
And like Velcorn said - personal preference. Users should have the option to set it up the way they like it best, not have Google (or other OEMs) dictate what they have to like.

I completely agree that it should be an option. But if they're not going to provide an option, putting it on the right makes more sense.
Also, you know clearing your recents gives you no performance improvement, right? Android could have completely killed an app weeks ago and its most recent snapshot could still show up there.

I don't care, I don't want the clutter in my recents. It's not so much about performance but about tidyness
I am right handed and use my P6 with my left hand. I use a wallet case on my devices with my index finger wedged behind the internal case. The thumb wins.
I always clear my recent, I don't care if you call it OCD or not.

My LG phones let me not just switch their order but whether they were outlines or filled in, too.

especially since third parties have made it an option for over 7 years

Personal preference. I'm totally with you on giving users the option, but I personally use the recents button more often and always hated the placement on Samsung phones.
I wish I could use FNG with A12 gestures, but I'm still stuck having the useless bottom bar...

I use FNG and have for a while now. Of course it takes root to get rid of the navbar.
