I had a similar issue. Here's now I resolved it.

You have to flash a full stock firmware with the pit, best use the rescue firmware thread in general forum.

I rooted my international SG3 over a year ago. I originally used it on vodafone in Germany, but I was using it on T-mobile in the USA now. It was working fine, until one morning while it just showed the "Samsung" boot logo, and wouldn't go any further. I took out the battery and tried rebooting it, but it never gets past the Samsung logo. I tried putting it into recovery mode, and the same thing. I am able to get to the download mode.
I tried using the same method I used to root the phone originally and Odin is telling me the pit file is missing or inaccessible. I didn't mess with the pit file when I rooted it originally. Do I need to put a new .pit file with Odin? I'm hesitant to do that without knowing what I am doing, however right now I have a non-functioning phone, so I don't have anything to lose, but I wanted some more expert advice before I try that.
What does it say on the phone screen in download mode please

Try another version of odin, different lead, port or pc. Ensure kies is not running. Follow the guide on flashing to the letter.
Download the rom from sammobile and check the md5.

I had a similar issue a while ago but it turned out to be an issue with the Kernel not being compatable with the Rom I flashed. I thought I had bricked it, until I flashed a stock kernal first then the stock ROM and it fixed it for me and it really does sound like you have the same issue, As for the rom not flashing its most likely a bad download try sammobile! let me know if it was the kernal!

boomboomer, Thanks for the reply. I have checked it all, now I'm getting the above error.
If you've tried all the connection issues then it appears your recovery positron is corrupt and can't be written. A rescue firmware, including pit might help but otherwise you'll need a new motherboard.
Search in general forum for the rescue firmware thread, follow the instructions.

Hi, I was trying to upgrade my Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 ; firmware version 4.1.1 to 4.3
On my first attempt I used:
* I9300XXUGMK6_I9300OXXGML1_I9300XXUGMK6_HOME.tar
* Odin 3.07
I turned my phone off, then I went to Download Mode (power + volume down + home buttons), opened the Odin 3.09, opened the tar file on the PDA, ticked F Reset and Auto Reboot and start!
After this odin finished as:
Complete(write) operation failed! ...
On the download screen this is the following information:
Product Name: SGH-I747
Custom Binary Download: Yes (8 counts)
Current Binary: Custom
System Status: Custom
Qualcomm Secureboot: Enable
Unsupport Dev_Type
As you can see the product name is different now. But it is an i9300 as i confirmed on settings before upgrading (and on the battery slot).
I have tried with 2 or 3 differents firmwares and it keeps giving the same error.
Phone will not show Samsung Logo right now, it shows: Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again. Kies does not detect the phone, but the pc and odin does.
Please help.
If it's really a i9300 then it should just be a matter of flashing the right file.
Please try this german 4.3 ROM: http://goo.gl/aJMX7K
If it doesn't work find a threepart-firmware for i9300 (with PIT-file included) and flash it.
Still presenting the issue

Hi. Try chimera tools and flash rom.
I'm beginning to suspect you are on commission for chimera...
It looks like the op flashed a firmware for the i747, try the rescue firmware from general forum else a repair centre.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
That would definitely be my next step as well. Try the 3-part rescue firmware with PIT.
What do you mean on device it says SGH-i747? Where on device, when it trys to boot? That's from the incorrectly flashed firmware but
should normally be overwritten by the correct firmware without problem.
Again, if you're positiv it really is a i9300 the rescue firmware should do:
http://direct.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30087735
You do need to ensure you get the correct firmware and to do this you need Kies to work.
Uninstal Kies then download Kies and install again, download the 4.3 version, then start Kies go to tools and select the Firmware Upgrade and Installation, follow the instructions, hopefully for you it will see the phone, following the process should wipe the phone and install the correct firmware for it, once this is done the phone should boot up, after that you should have a working phone.
Seems very odd your phone shows i9300 in the About Phone and under the battery but not when you go into download mode it shows the US / Canada phone model.SGH-i747
Hi,
A few days ago, my device spontaneously soft-bricked itself (haven't installed any mods or stuff), and after a quick regression, it is now only able to boot into download mode (recovery mode sends it to a screen with white horizontal and diagonal lines..)
In download mode, it reads:
ODIN MODE:
product name: GT-I9300
Custom binary download: NO
Current Binary: samsung official
System status: custom
I have tried setting up cyanogenmod but haven't been able to flash their provided custom recovery, due to my computer being unable to download the PIT from the device.
I also tried using the master version of heimdall to do that, with no success.
I also tried recovering my device with KIES, but after downloading the firmware update to my computer, it gets into a load where it would be uploading said update into my device, but just hangs at 0%
I tried uploading a stock firmware using odin 3.07, and I recieved some error regarding my PIT file.
Finally I tried repartitioning with a downloaded PIT file but I got this message: <ID:0/003> Can't open the serial(COM) port.
My phone's status remained the same so I am pretty certain that I haven't caused any further damage to it.
Sooo, any ideas?
If possible, I would very much prefer to install CM on it, and am considering rooting it, but most importantly i'm dissapointed with samsung's default os.
Thanks in advance,
Macro
If odin cant see it you've buggered it proper.
The method was
Install cfautoroot
Install clockwork recovery (official, custom borks your phone).
Install cyanogenmod (via cwm).
The error with the pit file would most likely be a bad file or wrong version. Playing with the partition table is a no-no and a last resort only.
If you can get odin to see the device in download mode you can flash stock and start over. If not, you have an expensive paperweight.
Samsungs "os" is bada. I think you mean "overlay". I agree. Touchwiz is rubbish but i think samsung only do it to grate some apple.
I wish I stole my HTC M9.

As I see you should send your device for a repair. It says there is no pit partition that as I know it mean there is no pit partition in your device!! So you totally messed it up and don't know what you have done but it needs a repair.
As oddly as it sounds, I had practically nothing on it. Never messed with it or anything. Barely any apps, no root/mod/whatever.
After looking into it with a friend, it seems like this problem is called SDS, and I saw some references to it over here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ultimate-gs3-sudden-death-thread-t1993044
I will look into it tomorrow afternoon once I'm free, but according to my friend, this would require a replacement motherboard... Might as well buy a new phone, lol
Still, if you have any ideas, I'd be happy to hear them. Thanks for your help up until now
i have galaxy s3 the international model
right now it stucks on the logo. i can get into download mod, but not into recovery.
i've tried to flash stock version. i used first the one file method . didn't work, then i tried the 4 files method
with bootloader etc... but it failed again.
i changed cables, usb ports, nothing!
here's the odin log.
