Hello,
What is MSL in samsung phones, where is it stored?
Where is simlock info stored? modem? NV ram parameters?
nv Ram which is stored within the android efs, is copied from the Modem itself. If you delete Nv ram, android will auto copy from the modem. What i would like to find out is how how to get direct access to the modem this is where you change the Nv ram parameters. does anyone have any documentation on qualcomm modems i downloaded Qpst, another thing which would help is if someone could take a locked samsung s3, dump the file system from root, then unlock the phone and dump the file system again .
I understand that this has no relation to the modem, just want to see what the MSL part is doing?
Thanks Aj

Guys,
does anyone know any information about the .provxml files that are run on Hard Resst that reside in the ROM?? ie what executes them etc...
AFAIK they generally contain registry settings and are executed by PreAutorun.txt or PreConfig.txt (can't remember the exact name) found on \windows\ dir.... watch for the lines starting with "XML:".

So, I assume this is where data connection details and the like are loaded?

no its not... data connection details are loaded from CAB files on the ExtROM... Operators use these .provxml files onto of the base rom they receive from HTC... these files are read on a Cold Boot (Hard Reset) and their settings entered into the registry...
but they probably could be used for operator settings.... but im in the process of writing an Operator Setting application for World Wide use....
Actually in the VPA ROM I'm working on, data connections ARE stored in the provxml files.

on the cingular rom the data connection settings are set via xml and is stored in the rom, mms is set via cab, these are both NOT in the extended rom... was different than the wizard which had all the settings in the ext rom.
Connection Settings Are Stored In The XML Files On The Original Orange Rom And Are Executed By PreAutoRun.exe Reading Which Files To Execute From PreConfig.txt.
The Original Orange Rom Didn't Have An ExtRom And So Everything Had To Be Loaded From The Windows Directory.
Also Adding The Connection Settings XML To This File
"mxipcold_zzzbetaconfig_100.provxml"
And Then Cooking The File Into A Rom Will Install The XML Settings You Want At Startup And After Hard Reset.
Cheers

it all depends on how 'lazy' the operator feels hahaha... because the .provxml files are basically the same as the xml files... both used to configure your device with reg tweaks and operator settings... but.. i should have my Operator Settings app out this week finally
Hi there guys so i got a Galaxy S II and amazing as it is I read a thread About the EFS folder now the good news is that i wrote down the IMEI number when i first got the phone but the bad news is that i flashed a lot of custom ROMS on it and from what i can see the EFS folder is empty what can i do to restore and back it up?
This thread is a good start. There are lots of others. Rather than using XDA's search facility (which is useless at the best of times), do a Google search & append XDA to your search query.
From there, you could try GS_II Repair from the Market (again, there are probably other apps which might help). And finally, last resort for people who don't backup their EFS when flashing custom roms/kernels like they should given how simple it is to do is to contact a member on here called Odia who might be able to 'recover' your IMEI for a small donation (a 'case of beer' does it, from what I've been told).
You if you go to settings > about phone what does it say on IMEI number ? Unknown ?
I use this app when my nvdata file crash https://play.google.com/store/apps/...GwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5oZWxyb3ouR1NJSV9SZXBhaXIiXQ..

what file browser did you use?
I used Es file explorer and the Efs folder was empty ,which is not possible since I haven't flashed any roms.
use root explorer and you will find that the folder is not empty (if you're lucky that is).

i'm using ES file explorer and the efs folder is not empty, everything is there
If you flashed a lot of custom roms one of them may have backed up efs folder at boot .
Check phone sd card for an efs backup file .

Hello, Someone can help me?. Suddenly I see I have changed in my Galaxy S2 the IMEI to 004999010640000 and all I do not work.
Copy the folder for months EFS on a lot of sites, including the PC but did not do any backup directly to any of SAI's programs like "efs repair".
Someone can help me?, As I can use the copy of the EFS folder that I have saved to get my IMEI?.
The advice will be very grateful.
For months now the same thing happened to me, therefore, it copied to dozens of sites EFS folder, then I solved it through a thread that WEP is not, charging a few euros, change to distance, took over my computer across the network and change the IMEI, an honest person, had to send photographs of the Cell where the IMEI clearly see, but you did not. But can not find it now.
...
He has EFS backup but as folder, not .img or something.
You need to pack this folder somehow and then use EFS management tool.
Please give me stock efs files.....i need them i know these are different but i need them for vibrant....just for trying once please.....
I don't believe your going to get anyone to give you a copy of their EFS.
These are the files where the IMEI and everything vital to each user specifically is stored. You'll need your own.
here it´s
before you try anything more, have you tried to recover your old rfs folder?
if not, you can try to recover it by mounting your efs folder and copying the contents from inside to, then remake it and put it back on, so you dont lost your imei.
Google for it but dont remake your partition or else you may not recover those files, getting a "permanent" generic imei on your phone.
Please stop starting threads asking for someone's EFS folder. If they want to give up the folder that has their device IMEI, then they will.
There are 8 threads opened by yourself with this very question. I would tread lightly from here on out. I will have more to say in your other thread but for now, this one and all the others are now CLOSED.
Please do not open another thread asking for the EFS folder or this will be the nicest response from me you will get.
