Converted an M7ATT to GPE - the owner wants it back to stock. I don't know how (probably an OTA) but S-ON got re-enabled and bootloader is locked. I tried unlocking it via HTCDev but it won't take.
-AT&T M7
-GPE fastboot/bootloader
-GPE Recovery
-Bootlooping as soon as it hits Android
-S-On / Locked(tampered) bootloader
When I try an RUU exe, it just says device not found. When I try it via rom.zip / commandline, it just says FAILED (status read failed (Too many links)).
Any suggestions?

Have you tried to re s-off?
I believe the firewater and romrunner tools in the int. One forums should be able to s-off that hboot.
I haven't personally gone s-off, but my understanding is that once s-off you can change your sid (super sid maybe?) And run just about any ruu.
Search up on that stuff.

you will have to s-off to repair the phone or hope for a new GPE RUU
whats the fastboot getvar all results (minus the serial no and IMEI )
I see a few mistakes. First, never go S-On and/or lock the bootloader once they've been unlocked. There's no reason for this unless returning to stock for warranty purposes. And if you do, ensure the phone has the software it's supposed to (AT&T in this case).
Secondly, if you have GPE, you must downgrade to hboot 1.44 first. And to do this, you must be S-Off.
Since the phone is currently S-On, the course of action depends on what is on the phone. If your CID is currently GOOGL001 or 11111111, try flashing the latest GPE RUU to restore the phone to working condition. Then go to HTCDev and unlock the bootloader. After that, you can use Firewater to S-Off.
Assuming all is successful, search for and flash hboot 1.44, then change the CID to CWS__001 (that's two underscores) and flash an AT&T RUU. And whatever you do, don't go S-On or lock the bootloader again. There's nothing to be gained by doing this.
If you're returning the phone to AT&T software because the person didn't like GPE (which I don't blame them), use the Dev Edition. By far the best choice to get the same Sense version of Android without all of the AT&T sh*tware. And things like AT&T Visual Voicemail work, along with any other AT&T app if the person wanted to download it from the Play Store for free.
Good luck.

I have read pages and pages from the Android Development forum for the HTC Evo 4G LTE and I can't seem to find a solution that works for me because going S-OFF or re-locking bootloader and loading RUU does not seem feasible for my situation.
The phone has custom recovery (TWRP) and we successfully loaded Viperboy's deodexed 3.15 stock ROM.
Baseband is 1.02.12.0427 (super outdated)
This phone was bought second hand and is a HTC dev unlocked phone, S-ON
I would like to update the baseband to 1.12.11.1200 and update the firmware to 3.16
Caveats: I don't have access to the phone, my friend can reload custom ROMs through TWRP, but beyond that I don't think we can go through Dirty Racun and S-Off, I don't know how we can easily check the HBOOT version to determine if the HBOOT version is 1.12
What would happen if we accepted the Sprint OTA? Are we SOL with the baseband because we are S-ON?
Is there any way we can get on MeanBean 3 or stock rooted 3.16?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
I wouldnt accept the OTA update to 3.16
I actually did just that when I relocked my phone on Saturday and had all sort of problems after that. Now, I'm not too sure you would even be able to install the update being that your phone is unlocked *citation needed*.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2135670 - talks about the 3.16 OTA problems
thanks, I've definitely advised my friend to stay away from the OTA and disregard it. I think we are experiencing call/wifi issues due to the old baseband. I wonder what are the next possible steps to move forward from here...

1. Stay on this baseband and deal with it.
2. Relock and RUU your way up to 3.15 (stay away from 3.16)
3. S-off and Flash a couple full firmware zips.
Sadly I think those are your only option. And to check your hboot just boot into bootloader. Hold volume down when powering on.

Thanks, I think that seems realistic, I'm concerned that if I relock through HTCDev, I read that some email/password might go to the original seller of the phone (ebay) for confirmation code, so I don't want to get stuck halfway
I am definitely crossing my fingers for HBoot v1.12, to confirm, once I check my version in the bootloader, I guess I can escape without taking any of the menu options (checking YouTube, I'll just go to recovery, enter TWRP, reboot, system).

Relocking the phone is done through fastboot on the computer. Nothing to do with HTC. And Dev unlocked means you get an unlock token from HTC to the email that you signed up with. So if you make your own account on HTC dev and request a token, it should send nothing to the other owner.
And sorry, but I don't understand what you mean by having Hboot 1.12. You mean only flashing the radio through recovery? If that's what you mean than I can't help with that. Not sure how that works or if there are problems with that.
great news! I had someone take screen shots of the HBoot (v.1.12.0000) and TWRP (v2.2.1) menu
Bootloader shows:
Code:
*** TAMPERED ***
*** UNLOCKED ***
JEWEL PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.12.0000
RADIO-1.02.12.0427
OpenDSP-v25.1.0.32.0405
eMM-boot
So as far as I know, I'm going to make sure there's nothing wrong with the TAMPERED, and then I can flash 1.12.11.1210 through Captain_Throwbacks Radio Only zip and then looks for a 3.16 custom firmware compatible with S-On since I'm on build number 3.15.651.16 CL124461.
I'd appreciate anyone to chime in if I'm going down a bad path here. Cheers!

You've indeed unlocked the bootloader properly but this only let's you flash recoveries and custom roms. You have to S-OFF the phone to update firmware via bootloader. You're other option would be to RUU which would upgrade the firmware and software and that CAN be done with S-ON, however there is a problem with the update which disables touch input so you should either wait for a dev to make custom 3.16 rom and forget about the firmware OR wait for a fix from HTC and run that RUU whenever it comes out.

Thanks xlxcrossing! I messaged Captain for a a recovery flash for the baseband only and he said my approach is no good either. So seems like I have to RUU to get off 1.12 anyways since LazyPanda is not supported and DirtyRacun starts at 1.15
So I am looking at the UNLIMITED.IO site now
step 1) relock via fastboot
step 2) RUU 1.15 or 1.19 (so this means my firmware/software/hboot will be updated as well?)
From here if I stop, I will be S-ON so I can...
option 1) RUU 2.09 and stay on 3.15
option 2) unlock bootloader from HTCDev and stay S-ON
option 3) unlock bootloader from HTCDev and DirtyRacun S-OFF (which actually seems like a very simple process once unlocked)

The advice is free....the bandwidth, not so much
Just wanted to say thank you all for the support and advice.
I finally walked my friend over gtalk and successfully achieved S-OFF after relock, 1.15 RUU, unlock with HTC DEV, dirtyracun
Then updated full firmwares incrementally to 3.16
Then while trying to load MeanBean, realized we lost TWRP (and possibly root, need to confirm), I can only guess that went away with the RUU? That's not really documented anywhere unless that's a known thing.
TWRP installation via goomanager failed (maybe due to lack of root), I was able to find TWRP v2.3.1 bootloader, installed that and installed MeanBean 3.0.4
I think that makes us up to date, however we will likely install SuperSU via TWRP once we customize and ensure the phone is running smoothly.
Thanks again all!
Super su is included with the ROM

Hi,
Device: Flyer Wifi 16gb
HBOOT: 6.11.1111
Revolutionary S-OFF
No Root (apparently by Root Checker Basic)
3.2.1 RUU
i followed this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19339909&postcount=1
to regain S-ON and standard recovery. Unfortunately it didnt work, I installed the RUU, it boots and works fine but if I send the devices to bootloader via ADB it lands back in Revolutionary. The guide was completed without errors.
So I am currently on RUU but with S-OFF and Revolutionary and I would like to get S-ON and standard recovery.
I found several other guides, but I cant see what puts them above the mentioned one and therefore I prefer to ask...
Thank you very much in advance for any help,

just ends in that:

and that holds for everything I found.
Somebody said I could just use fastboot and send "fastboot oem lock" for the lock and RUU afterwards. But am I right that HBOOT is not replaced by RUU at all? Do I have to downgrade first?

the RUU flash will not write over a S Off Hboot. the procedure you listed in the OP is the only one I know of that will do what you want. Are you sure that when you:
fastboot flash hboot flyer_downgrader.nb0
it was successful?
pic
Thank you for your help!
I attached the output of fastboot and I actually dont think that it flashes correctly but all I saw is "OKAY" and "finished"...
Is the screen supposed to show anything during this flash? Because it stays just the way it is and shows no change in HBOOT or any part of the fastboot screen.
After rebooting it says "HBOOT-6.10.1005" but revolutionary still.
Great Success!
Got it! Works with RUU
RUU_Flyer_HTC_WWE_Wifi_1.36.1114.32_Radio_20.3501.30.089BU_3809.05.04.10_M_release_191235_signed
and NOT with the one I used. With this RUU I did the exact same procedure and succeeded. Now on stock recovery, S-ON and 1.10.0000!
Thank you for the guide, it really does work

You can follow nkk71's SuperGuide that is in my signature. To remove the "Tampered" banner and to "Locked" instead of "Relocked" you will need S-OFF all of the information is in the guide.
If you don't care about the "Tampered" banner or being "Locked" then you could use RUU 3.17.502.3 to return you back to stock provided your are really 4.3. You can verify this with the fastboot getvar all command. If your version-main is higher than this you will not be able to run this RUU since, you are S-ON you will also need to relock your bootloader. You can use this command in bootloader/FASTBOOT USB:
Code:
fastboot oem lock

The only way to have it show "Locked" instead of "Relocked" is to obtain S-OFF. In nkk71's guide he shows how to change them and how to achieve S-OFF.

Hello guys, new on unlocking androids and these things, I want to learn and get more involved in this community.
For now I just gotta a problem and can't find the answer over the internet. My problem is that I wanna buy the best buy at&t blue htc one m7, but I will be using in Colombia in another network, do I need to buy a plan in the USA to get the best buy version?, or just pay the 200 dollars and that's it?. Is it easy to unlock it and make it work in Colombia?, there is an unlocked at&t blue on amazon but they charge me a hundred dollars more, is it worth it?
Sorry for being a little lost here,

I'm trying to unlock & S-off my new phone. Maybe someone can help? Android 4.1.2 HBoot 1.44
tried revone stock
got some error
installed weaksause & superSU to get root
tried revone a few more times
now I get error -6
Is there anything specific to AT&T devices that I'm missing? (I'll post in the revone thread or start a new one if I can't get it)
Thx

You need to use Rumrunner to s-off your phone
I ran this RUU first then rumrunner
http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_...13_10.38j.1157.04_release_334235_signed_2.exe
install custom rom
I got mine today.
hboot 1.55
unlocked bootloader, installed 2.8 twrp, rooted, and s-off
android ver 4.3
software ver 3.17.502.3
radio: 4T.20.3218.13
to install the maximushd 46 or any custom rom, do I just download the zip and install from SDcard?
or is it much easier to update the stock rom to 4.4.2 (any directions will be greatly appreciated)
I am such a newbie please bear with me.
I bought a blue one a few days ago, love it, but had trouble getting S-Off. I bought it to use on T-Mobile. I submitted an unlock request to AT&T through their website and am waiting on a reply. If that fails I'll just buy an unlock code. I wish I would have found this thread sooner.
hboot 1.55
android ver 4.3
software ver 3.17.502.3
radio: 4T.20.3218.13
Unlocked bootloader with htcdev.com no problem. Flashed custom recovery with twrp 2.8.74.0-m7 and root with UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.45.
I could not for the life of me get revone or rumrunner to work, revone -P would fail (even as su), rumrunner would say cleaning skunky rum and have a progress bar where it would request su (granted it) and fail. I tried firewater and it wouldn't run after being pushed to the device. After that I used SunShine ($25) and that was painless and finally got S-Off.
I changed the CID to T-MOB010, I also used MID_Change_1.01 to set MID to PN0713000 (under custom recovery). I was able to flash TMOUS_3.24.531.3 Zip, bringing it to factory recovery, and it did a few OTAs being around 600MB each bringing it to TMOUS_6.10.531.10. For fun I tried to install TMOUS_6.10.531.10 Exe, and it wouldn't continue unless the CID was 11111111.
To switch back to AT&T, I set CID CWS__001 and MID PN0712000 (under custom recovery), flash Cingular_US_3.17.502.3 Zip and I can then flash Cingular_US_3.17.502.3 Exe but not Cingular_US_4.18.502.7 Exe. I can't seem to get any OTA with 3.17.502.3 but I don't have a valid AT&T sim card. I'm pretty new to this stuff and I'll probably just stick to the GPE 5.0.1 Zip (works great).
Hi all,
I have installed a custom recovery on my ATT HTC One M8. It is rooted and I am trying to install an OTA update. I am fairly new to this and I need help. I can try provide any information necessary. I am currently on 4.28.502.1 and the OTA update is 4.28.502.2. I keep getting ERROR 155 and I don't know what I am doing wrong. Thank you

I need to have S-OFF to relock my bootloader, but I can't find a program to help me achieve that. There was firewater and that has become discontinued. There is SunShine ( I think that is what its called ) which you have to pay $25 for. I don't know if it's worth it.
Error 155 is because of unlocked bootloader. Only way to have unlocked and run an ruu successful is with s-off. Just relock and ruu you can always unlock again via HTCdev. Type the command below to relock when s-on.
Fastboot oem lock
It will show relocked, so it won't help with warranty, but if you are planning to unlock again, it will work.

/system has to be unmodified. This means most things that require root to change (E.G. removing system apps, changing build.prop, xposed, etc) have to be reverted to stock for an ota to work. You do not need s-off to take an ota. Just uproot, put /system back to stock and flash the stock recovery.

You need s-off to make it say LOCKED. With s-on, you can only make it RELOCKED.
The only reason to make it LOCKED is for warranty purposes through HTC (AT&T warranty actually doesn't care of the phone is modded).
