[Root] WeakSauce APK - 1.0.1 - HTC One Max

WeakSauce and Firewater have been patched on the latest HTC builds, the current solution is SunShine http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792487
WeakSauce is an exploit for some HTC devices. It will not work on all HTC devices, if it crashes or doesn't make su available, then it isn't compatible at this time, and I have no interest in adding compatibilitiy. At the time of release, I confirmed that it was compatible with the HTC One m7 & m7 on Verizon. Those are the only two officially supported devices. Yes it will work on other phones, and is worth a try. It will also crash on many, and some it will appear to work and won't. I am not fixing this at this time.
Since this app is just so easy to use, and I am tired of off topic posts, I am closing the thread. If you can not figure out how to use it, ask elsewhere.
This app may not be redistributed, integrated in a toolkit or script, or sold in any way.
It gains root, mounts a new xbin containing busybox, and su. While it is designed for the Verizon HTC One m7 and m8, it will work on other HTC devices as well. It is a crapshoot depending on both model, and sometimes on firmware version. This exploit will re-root your device each boot. You only have write access to /system/xbin with this exploit.

Not working with new sprint htc one max.
I installed and ran. Got the ol' "unfortunately, weaksauce has stopped" error..
Have newest Hboot right out of the box.
Tried reinstalling it.

same on mine i have international version... i have HTC ONE MAX international edition updated to latest 4.4.2 by OTA . fc when trying to agree with the terms.

As the op says it is a crapshoot and mainly Verizon. It you want to post about how it doesn't work, then at least post what model and firmware so the thread doesn't get flooded with me too posts

As per title its not working on this on here in the UK ,GSM Handset
4.3
Send 5.5
Software 1.54.401.1 CL279372 release-keys
HTC SDK API Level 5.65

kinda weird all these toolboxes worked before, now its just sunshine pay unlock, rumrunner no longer is functional, squabbis don't seem to work, 2.0 or 1.1 and pwn stars uses mainly htcdev for the bootloader but blocks the Verizon variant possibly others. I give up its down the road with the htc max nexus 6p and the NRT works the best ive seen from a dev. All you guys are some seriously smart people and much respect.

@jcase I ran sunshine successfully on my HTC one max but how do I obtain root afterwards?

Is anyone having issues getting weaksauce temp root to work on at&t m8 ?

Is anyone having issues getting the weaksauce 1.0.1 temp root app to work on at&t m8 ?
I keep getting root failed but they list its supposed to do that on the at&t version, but I cant get the supersu to work ?
Everytime the supersu lists the following " There is no su binary installed, and supersu cannot install it. This is a problem! " and all I can do is hit ok and supersu just closes. I checked with the root checker app and it shows Superuser application in not installed ? So its not picking up the super su ?
Anyone ? The weaksauce xda forum is closed so you cant ask questions there so where do you ask then ?

I tried weaksause, temproot etc.. and was getting similar errors.. and finally decided to just use the all-in-one tool kit.. which did it for me quite well.
Steps to be followed are..
1. Unlock your bootloader from HTCdev
2. Root using all in one tool kit.(install custom recovery). Also install suprersu from the playstore after you root.
3. S-off using firewater. (use the first method listed there).
4. profit.
5. Hit the thanks button if this helped you
Weaksauce wouldnt work for me kept having supersu issues so I finally gave up and used htcdev.
Firewater it took me 5 times following a youtube video finally tossed the video and went to firewater turned out firewater requires either 3g, 4g, lte or wifi connection on the phone and video did not mention that so I signed on to wifi and sure enough it worked, so much for youtube videos on how to firewater s-off. Was just a waste of my time.

Yes I knew how to do all that, but the weaksauce keeps htc from knowing your rooted and voiding your warranty. Using htcdev just gives them an excuse to get out of any warranty issues because they can blame them on the phone being rooted.

4.4.2 ota root

I could find no information on this sorry if its been brought up already. I have never rooted my DNA. I have all my other previous phones though. I am now running 4.4.2. So my phone is completely stock. How would I go about obtaining root and unlocking recovery.
They patched the rumrunner exploit so... You can try firewater but there is no guarantee anything will work.

Trying Firewater if it doesn't work could it harm my phone or if it doesn't work it just doesn't do anything?
Nope of it doesn't work your phone won't be touched. I don't think that one was blocked so it should work. The only way your phone can be harmed in the process is of you unplug it while the exploit is running. In simple terms once you start the exploit don't touch anything until it says complete.

did this work?? I need to know cuz im in the same boat
Just tried and i got a temp root, which allowed me to run firewater for S-Off on the 4.4.2 ota.
1.) Install the necessary drivers
2.) Install and gain temp root with weaksauce, from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699089
3.) After obtaining Temp root (TuneInRadio will appear in your notification bar if its running) Run Firewater (normal, rooted device method) and your golden: http://firewater-soff.com/instructions/
Make sure to follow all the instructions for Weaksauce and Firewater.

It didn't have to have a pin/passcode/pattern. However, firewater didn't cause the phone to reboot at all, and neither did weaksauce temp root. So i wouldn't image it would be an issue anyway (but possibly). Just disable your lock before you run firewater.
Its time....
Thanks for the info, I think its time for me to root this phone now. I was nervous because I jumped the gun with KK and now I was looking all over to find out whats the best way with the new update. This is the only thread that even mentioned it, so hope this runs smoothly for me. I havent rooted a HTC phone since my Rezound! I hope I can shake the rust off myself and do it right the first time!

[Q] re root after ROM

I just got another DNA and decided this time to mod it. I hated it stock and bloated. So anyway I did the rumrunner s-off method to unlock and root and everything is going good and I installed the NuSenseSIX Htc m8 port and it's beautiful. Props. But there's an app called trickster mod that I tried to go into and says I don't have root. So I go into superSU and it says I'm missing the SU binaries and that I need to manually 're root it. But Idk if I should do it the same way cause I used the s-off thing or if I should use the htc universal toolkit or something. Any advice would be very helpful

I have an HTC One Max from Verizon, stock, unrooted, odex, running HBOOT 2.49.0000
I am trying to attempt to unlock the bootloader so i can S-OFF
When i use HTC's DEV site, and submit my token, it tells me that my MID is not allowed.
When i use rumrunner i get this error (see atttached image)
I have tried may things posted on XDA and utube with no success.
if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Ok again this is an HTC one max and I am trying to unlock the boot loader. I can't s-off until I unlock the boot loader first. If you have an HTC one max (not the HTC one m7 or m8), then tell me how you managed to unlock the bootloader.
You cant unlock the bootloader at HTCdev with this devicebecause of carrier regulations so you use firewater to do that. It unlocks your bootloader and gives you s-off
I need to change my sig to show the One Max lol
Also from doing some reading rumrunner isnt effective on HBOOTs after 2.46 or so

Ok once again, this is an HTC one max (not the HTC one m7 or m8) and it's Verizon I am referring to - not sprint or AT&T - and I am trying to unlock the bootloader. I can't s-off until I unlock the bootloader first. If you have an HTC one max (not the HTC one m7 or m8), and it's specifically a Verizon carrier, then tell me how you managed to unlock the bootloader.

Sorry stupid Firefox entered the same thread twice. I will again attempt to use Firewater, but it didn't work for me the last attempt I made. Thanks for the advice and I will follow up.
I have a verizon one max HBOOT 2.49 unlocked bootloader by using Firewater http://firewater-soff.com/
After you read what it is for on the homepage click on the Instructions/Download Tab and of the 3 methods given, use the "Instructions (WeakSauce method - some m8 models and maybe others)" method.
Basically you need to download the app called Weaksauce it is in the steps for the method above and at the link -->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699089
When you install the app, it will give you root. install SuperSu from the market and begin the process of Firewater.
Note:
1. When you boot your device make sure weaksauce roots your device before you being to use firewater (you can download the Root Checker app from the market to verify that you have root before you start)
2. Download firewater using Internet Explorer
3. Follow the instructions carefully from both weaksauce and firewater
good luck

Question, now that i have successfully unlocked the device and achieved s-off, and also have installed a current of version of twrp and rooted, does installing future OTA updates affect any of this? would installing an OTA update cause me to have to re-root? or possibly lose my "unlocked, s-off"?
Thanks,

You will need to have the stock recovery in order to take an OTA. In my case for Kit Kat OTA, I was unlocked rooted and S-OFF and still got the update. You will probably lose root but unlock and S-OFF will remain.

So you are saying that if i updated my recovery to TWRP, i would not be able to install the OTA update? Also, did you lose root when you applied the update? and if so, how did you regain root?

That is correct, you need the stock recovery and stock rom, you can be rooted and will lose it, but S-OFF will remain. Root is easy to get back so it's no big deal
I just delt with this exact problem. U won't be able to get any while rooted. I ended up having to install the RUU via fastboot and lock my bootloader in order to get Ota updates. I still consider myself to be a noob. I think you gotta have the stock recovery installed as well.

Nope you are not. Check out Sunshine. It will take will unlock the bootloader and get you S off. You take care of the rest. I was completely stock on the sense 6 OTA when I found out about and used Sunshine. Sunshine does cost $25 to use, but for me, it was worth it.
Sounds promising. Thanks. I'm googling now.

Thanks for the advice. I googled SunShine, paid my $25, ran the app and BOOM!!! Unlocked! S-Off! and Root. All I had to do was fastboot flash the unofficial verizon 2.8.0.0 twrp recovery (that confused me for a few hours as well, I was getting errors with the official), install supersu and update the binaries and that was it. I'm chillin on some cyanogenmod now and loving it.

Glad it went easy for you. I have not put a custom rom on mine yet. I am considering it, but doing something stupid and borking a phone is not the same as borking a tablet. The tablet can sit until I can figure out what I did wrong. I cant do that with my main line of communications.

Sunshine might work. Google it. You could flash an older rom if your unlocked.

You can't flash anything while you are S-ON, bootloader locked, and you can't unlock the bootloader or get S-OFF without Sunshine. Once you are bootloader unlocked and S-OFF, you flash a custom recovery like TWRP so you can gain root and you can (if you choose) flash a custom ROM or other modifications. For the Verizon One Max, Sunshine is the only alternative.
It sounds like you haven't yet looked at other threads here to learn the difference between booting to bootloader, booting to recovery or booting to system, or what S-ON/S-OFF means, or what adb and fastboot are for. You should know all of those things before you wade in and accidentally brick your One Max.
There aren't a lot of devs still working on the device, but there are lots of threads in this forum and elsewhere on xda that will tell you what you need to know. "Search" is your friend.

I have looked at other threads and understand s-off, boot loader on/off, and stuff. What I don't understand, is how to install the custom recovery. I've seen tutorials for how to install custom recovery on the HTC one m7 but none for the one max. I'm not sure if there's a difference. Most of the threads I've seen simply say that I need sunshine, which I have installed on my phone but I'm trying to gather all the information I need on how to install a custom Rom before pulling the trigger and forking out $25.
