1. Don't use vRoot
2. Tell us what model you have (C68xx) and firmware version.

First of all, vRoot doesn't support 136. It only supports 532 and earlier, but don't use it either way. You can either downgrade to 532, root it, flash a ROM through recovery and be done with it, or you can update to 681 KitKat and root it by unlocking the bootloader, but only IF you've already backed up your TA partition.
There are several guides and threads on this topic, so please search and try to follow one of them.

I think you can root the tablet if you unlock the bootloader. If you want root currently on the 253 version, you can unlock the bootloader and install cwm recovery. I have not done so, maybe someone else can confirm.

Confirmed.
Unlock bootloader.
Flash DooMLoRDs CWM Recovery and boot into recovery an you'll get root as a side effect. Make sure you flash a Superuser zip....
I just read abut it this morning and am contemplating unlocking, the only thing stopping me is the loss of bravia engine after unlocking with no way to get it back. Im not bothered about the warranty.

you and many others (me for example.) seems like many of devs havent got sgp321 in hand so they're more focused in sgp311 and312. I've mentioned before there is paradox for sgp321.
# You can backup Ta partition for bravia engine 2 and drm keys.
# But you cant do that without root.
# You cant Root (yet) without unlocking bootloader.
# With bootloader unlocked you'll lost DRM key and BA2 forever. (you cant flash others TA partition you'll hard brick the device).
I've asked a question in QA if the mods can make three subforums for SGP 321,311 and 312 so that people wont flash wrong tft or try flashing wrong firmware in wrong device as every Model is reffered to Xperia Z ( I almost flashed xperia Z phone's firmware to SGP 321) its just disaster waiting to happen.
The naming convention used by sony itself is a bit strange when i try to google xperia tablet z related stuff i get xperia z stuff same with youtube. its tough finding guides. In terms of marketing it seems like an odd choice too. Xperia z and xperia tablet z can be confusing for daily consumers despite one being a phone and another a tab

well actually there is but from xperia z smartphone (it was 10.1.A.1.434 before came update to 10.1.1.A.1.253 ). Furthermore smartphone has the same hardware as tablet (Wifi+LTE), the difference seems to be only in screen size, and camera. So if you take the risk you can downgrade to .434, get root and the update to .253.
I just got a Tablet Z. Model # SGP311, build 10.4.B.0.577
I am wondering if it's possible to root this. I don't know if the bootloader is unlocked.
Thanks

You can root the XTZ, but it's a bit of work... IMO the easiest way is to install a custom rom, but there are other root methods for this device...

OK I am kind of lost with these numbers (109 etc)..I read the link and it looks like it isnt easy like the Samsung devices.
First do I need to unlock my bootloader? Is it possible to install custom rom without root?

1.) I suggest you simply flash 10.1.C.0.370 firmware and root it using the attached file below.
2.) install the latest dual recovery by NUT.
3.) then follow this:

two important things, you should be rooted and has a recovery installed before proceeding the update and retain the root .
@donedos After connecting the tablet with the companion software on my mac, I got the .109 upgrade
Now I am on .109 Firmware.
- How should I flash 10.1.C.0.370? Which tool to flash, source to find 10.1.C.0.370 (search would do?)?
Many thanks

Okay, I have flashed firmware .370 to my tablet (but used SGP312 instead of 311 which is the model of my tablet!), and I have that awful UI layout with the home key and back button of the bottom left and the drop down menu on bottom right! .109 update has popped up as well.
When/if I update to .109 (after root) will my model be SGP311?
I have rooted okay, but used doomlord xploit as the file you attached did not seem to work, and I have installed the recovery by NUT.
I now have the firmware for SGP311 (UK), but only a .ftf file (853,683kb). The directions above state you should have a zip file also

You might lose root with the OTA. The awful phone layout is a consequence of Google trying to unify the UI across Android devices. It's a bit better for devs, lot worse for users. But you eventually get used to it. With 4.4, even Settings app will have the giant phone UI.

Yes, flashing new (unrooted) firmware will always overwrite root, but you can follow these root instructions to root .314.
yes you will but can get it back

yes you will loose root but you should be able to root it again
personally i do have Xperia Z2 everything factory installed (rooted) 17.1.2.A.0.314
i updated it with sony PC Companion and rooted it again with EasyRootTool v12.1 after 1st unsuccessful attempt with Chinese dev's root tool.(when i say unsuccessful that doesn't mean the tool is unsuccessful i probably wasn't using it the way i should)
latest easyroottool is here (new version of the one i have used to root updated Z2)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784900
chinese dev's tool is here in case you need it (or find latest version if there is any probably wont need it)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559009
before you wanna go ahead i would say research a bit more if you feel like it. personally i wasn't very careful cause i got DRM Keys backup thanx to devs but i got it done with EasyRootTool V12.1 in 2nd attempt.
goodluck
You'll only need to back up TA (where DRM keys are located) if you unlock your bootloader. Also, you only need to unlock your bootloader if you are flashing a custom kernel or Rom that requires a custom kernel. If you are only wanting root, there is no need to back up your TA partition. So just use the Easyroot tool to root after updating to .314 via PC companion if you are using that method m8:good:
It's a litle late to write about TA backup when he talks about loosing root at upgrade.

Basically the steps are as follows: Downgrade to Android 4.4.2 using Flashtool, then root with TowelRoot, install XZDualRecovery, then install a prerooted flashable Lollipop with TWRP if you like Lollipop. No need to unlock the bootloader. All the information should be available in the forum. Good luck!

That would be the last step to use the prerooted flashable.
I would recommend not unlocking your bootloader. If you want to unlock it, you need to run an additional program to backup your DRM keys, otherwise they will be lost for good.
You will need the correct 4.4.2 FTF file for your model number, then use Flashtool to flash it. It will wipe everything and restore to factory defaults. Instructions in the following post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2-tablet/general/ftf-collection-locked-unlocked-bl-t3061431
Then you can basically follow the instructions in this post to root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792056
And XZDualRecovery from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794175
I tried now rooting this model for a long time, I finally found a way of doing it.
1: Install Kingo root app from here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwOSXw-lPe-mZWxPQ0lXc3pqcnc/view?usp=docslist_api and run it (it will fail to root).
2: UNINSTALL Kingo app.
3: Now install kingroot app from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=17287 and run it.
NOTICE: I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone.
YOU WILL LOSE YOU WARRENTY BY DOING THIS

After this you probably want to install Supersu and remove kingroot
Just download this app from here: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...l1JRAN8IZNkFinqvQ&sig2=kFJEvANWx8_lrBM7N9MnCA and follow the instructions.

I recommend replacing kingroot with Supersu because some people find it a little shady, also it runs in the background all the time which could potentially reduce battery life

I have sony c4 dual E5333 witn android 6.0.1. When I type in code *#*#7378423#*#* and go to root in the menu, it says my bootloader can't be unlocked so I cannot root the phone. Is there any file I can flash to overwrite the bootloader and flash new rom then. Nothing works. The all say unlock code is useless if the the bootloader can't be unlocked, I have tried it and it says the bootloader cannot be unlocked using flashtool. Can anyone help me get around this. The upgrade to 6.0.1 has messed with my gsm settings which means I cannot receive mms at all anymore.
Using sony companion to repair the software bricked my phone so it had to be sent to sony to reload the software and still I cannot receive mms.
Cant downgrade the software either.
Can anyone tell me how do I get around this bootloader that cant be unlocked please or how do I override/overwrite the boatloader to unlock it??
