ok, I missed up big time...
Apparently my S III -international I9300- tried to update automatically, but for some reason it failed in the middle, so it gave me the "Firmware Upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies & try again" massage, obviously being a complete noob I trusted samsung, long story short kies didn't work for me...
Then I searched and came across Odin, which seems to work perfectly for everyone else but me, again, the universe just hates me.
I watched a video on youtube, and followed the instructions, downloaded the tar files from samsung-updates[.com]
And downloaded Odin 3.07, and got my phone into download mode, so far so good, it started the magic, only when it finished and gave me the success massage, my phone didn't restart automatically, and yes I had the "Auto Reboot" checked.
Naively, I assumed that I could restart the phone on my own, I did that and hell went loose. The screen started to show this -attachments- for whatever reason,
although I could still get into Download mode, idk why...
So then again I tried to use Odin, it won't work, it either gives me the massage "There is no PIT partition", or it gets stuck at starting connection massage.
Any ideas of whether I can recover my phone or not, please tell me that I haven't hard bricked my S III..
And one more thing, I know it might sound stupid atm, but I really extremely need the photos on my phone, so is there any way to recover them, back them up, anything, even if I had to go and unbrick my phone at samsung, can I back up the photos or anything before sending it :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:

if there is a method that involves melting my S III just to get the photos on it, I'm ok with that... I kinda need the photos on the phone not the phone itself, the photos are for my work over the past 2 years and are extremely valuable...
No pit means your emmc chip, where all your data was stored, is already melted and dead. Sorry.

I can still get into download mode, if that matters in any way...
Can I somehow use adb from download mode, I can't access recovery mode to use the backup feature of adb, but it strikes me why I can still get into download mode...
anyone plz :crying:
The state of your device looks (really) bad, I've never encountered any such problems before.
If it helps you, we can help you get the phone back to how it was from the start (possibly) entire reset from scratch.
Most likely your files are irrecoverable (sorry about that), but the next time, this would possibly serve as a lesson as not to use your phone's internal memory to store important files... Wait you know what? probably don't use your work or important phone for tasks like these, make sure you always have a backup and other copies of your files somewhere else.
(Probably) the most we could help is with recovering your phone from zero assuming the brick isn't that bad.

Hey,, I recently got my galaxy s2 and im new in the android thing,, i want to flash my phone to litening rom but im worried that i might brick it,, what are the chances that i may brick my phone? tnx and more power
The risk is very small as long as you follow the instructions to the letter. Read from start to finish a few times before doing anything and double check everything. It's actually all very easy and straightforward
Edit: and have a look at the thread about backing up your EFS folder before flashing (you'll need root) it's in the dev section somewhere.

But how hard is it to really brick a SGS2 ?
I think i read about 1 person who couldnt get his phone up and running again .
SGS2 i belive is really hard to brick.
Sorry for my bad english
There are enough who totally brick a phone in the course of a year . But its hard to do plenty of oh hell moments but recovered flashing stock rom .
Brick tends to be a misused term SGS brick means it should work after flashing stock rom via odin . Other phones brick means dead phone return to factory no hope .

As long as you never tick "Re-Partition" and insert the PIT in Odin its almost imposable to brick unless you somehow nuke the bootloader(which you shouldn't be able todo via flashing custom roms).
I dont even think theres much of a chance of radio bricks, worst that happens is that you have to re-flash.

As long as one of the (secondary) bootloaders is still intact and you can get into download-mode (maybe by using the USB jig), then yes.

If the service centre can't fix (when I sent mine to one they told me it was beyond economic repair) don't lose hope as this guy will probably be able to repair it for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=1602851
Ended up being cheaper than if my local service centre had been able to repair it too.
Being new to flashing I was also very scared at the start. I was pulling my hair out when the first time I flashed a new rom and got stuck in a boot loop. Luckily I backed up the entire system and I was able to restore.
Make sure you do a back up of your system first.
The first time its scary, I had no nails after the first flash lol. But after that its fun, just make sure to read everything and follow the instructions to the letter.
Good Luck!!
Sim card not recognized
I have rooted by galaxy s2 and my phone fails to recognize the sim card and unfortunately I didn't backup my original rom to restore the previous settings
I tried various things: hard reset, install alternative (custom) roms all seem to have no effect on the sim card.
I am getting quite frustrtated with this, is there an original ROM for my location (GREECE, VODAFONE) to try with odin ? I should note that my mobile seems not to connect with the PC when I try to connect it via kies (odin works instead)
Is there a possibility that the phone's card sensors are physically damaged, thus return it for repairs ?
Thanks for your time

SGS2 - Download mode but no recovery
Hi!
I have a bit of a problem here as well when i was trying to flash back to the stock firmware. Now when I try to get to the clockwork recovery mod, I get the famous dead screen with symbols of mobile phone, exclamation point and a pc. I have been searching solution to this problem for hours now, and still I don't want to quit.
My previous custom rom was installed in with no problems. Litening rom 3.0.
Now, with usb jig i can get into the download mode, no problem there. It just seems that the traffic is just jammed.
Download mode works but Odin doesn't transfer anything. Gets stuck on the factoryfs.img while i'm trying to flash. Kies doesn't recognize the phone but pc recognizes the USB device with no problem. Original stock firmware doesn't load on the phone. Odin just stops transferring.
Things I've tried so far.
-Reflash (both litening rom again and stock firmware) with odin (Kies is not on while I do this, I checked)
-Kies (doesn't work)
-Download mode does work but it seems that phone doesn't accept any files.
-I tried the one-click unbrick which seemed to do something god but failed at the end.
What could I still try? I'm running out of options now.
I apologize for my bad english.
Hi.
Please read all of what I tried before suggesting something.
I have a S3 GT-I9300 international version. It's from Orange Israel and its warranty recently ended.
All of what I tried below has been done with the phone in the Download mode by turning it while holding the power, volume down and the home key, there is absolutely nothing else this phone can do, if I just normally power it on it'll get stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S3 screen, I can't even get to the animated Samsung logo. Kies is uninstalled completely and I have no AV.
Now here is what I tried so far:
1. Most forums said that I could try a regular flash via Odin by inserting the firmware.md5 file into the PDA section and flashing it, but that just makes Odin get stuck on the process (Setup Connection...) or give me this error [1st screenshot from the left]
2. I also tried attaching the .pit file for my 16GB S3 named (GT-I9300_mx_20120220.pit) alone but that makes Odin get stuck on this process as well [2nd screenshot from the left]
3. I tried attaching both .md5 and .pit files at the same time but it just also gets stuck on the (Setup Connection...) forever. And when I say stuck I don't mean Odin stops responding, I mean it just hangs on that process.
4. I looked in forums even more and they suggested I try different USB ports or cables and I did, still nothing.
5. I tried different Odin versions for all of the things I already tried.
6. I tried flashing different firmware versions for all of the things I already tried.
7.1. I downloaded Heimdall Suite and I tried to use it since a guy mentioned it helped him immensely by him just installing the drivers using the "zadig.exe" file and choosing his S3 from the All Devices list and installing the driver, however I encounter something different because the program has Replace Driver option that gives me this error [3rd screenshot from the left]
7.2. I later discovered that I can install the driver anyway by clicking the arrow next to the button and choosing Install WCID driver, that worked successfully, however it hasn't solved my problem like the guy on the forum, for him, the S3 started to get recognized by Odin and it flashed his device successfully, for me, it still gave me that error.
8. After I installed the driver from Zadig I launched Heimdall Suite in hopes of finally flashing my device but it gave me this error when trying to load up the .md5.gz [4th screenshot from the left]
9. I then proceeded to add the .pit file I downloaded earlier into the Flash tab in Heimdall tool and adding the boot.img because I think that should be enough to get it going, plus I don't know what else to put. It gave me this error [5th screenshot from the left]
I'll keep updating this post when I try new stuff, however I would like you guys to suggest things I haven't tried before or supply me with files I haven't found already (.pit files, firmwares I'm not aware of, etc.). Would appreciate any little help of sorting this problem out, the warranty ended so I don't know what am I gonna do if I don't get it fixed :/
Thanks.

Yep sounds bricked. If that's the case, send for repair. Your NAND is probably borked.
Out of interest, what does all the info on the screen say in download mode?

The problem with the S3 is that there really aren't many options before the last option. From what I can see, you have already tried them all.
It tells me you haven't got SDS, but we already knew you had a NAND issue, regardless of that. It was just a matter of interest.

I didn't mention that I also tried all of what I tried with Kies installed.
And it is SDS, I was just browsing through photos and the phone just locked up and restarted and couldn't get passed the GALAXY S3 flash screen, which is why I started trying all this crap, including flashing PIT. And the symptoms and behavior of the phone hasn't changed since the first time it restarted on me. So I definitely didn't change ANYTHING to the phone whatsoever.

It could be SDS. We've seen a few failures like this where download mode doesn't show SDS symptoms. It doesn't mean the result is not SDS. Its uncomfirmable.
SDS possible , Nand damaged itself possible but 90% of problems are user error .
That error is often in trying to smash their way out of trouble avoiding the simple correct method and throwing everything at the phone .Following stuff from multiple forums then asking help on XDA at the end when it is to late .
Whatever you have done in the past right or wrong does not matter it is now a service centre job .
Samsung generally offer 24 months limited warranty but would be likely to reject due to custom rom count .

Hey guys,
I have a galaxy s3 (I9300) and I've had it rooted for some time now. I started using CyanogenMod 10.2 nightlies a few months ago and they've mostly been fine. The odd issue comes up but I've been able to work it out. So, a few hours ago my phone just turned off of its own accord and started to bootloop, but on the "Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-19300" screen, not the CyanogenMod screen (to clarify, this screen comes up first then the cyanogenmod one usually). I've tried booting into recovery (CWM 6) but it just shows the CWM boot logo thing (that cog with the hat) and then loops back to the galaxy s3 page. I've also tried putting it in download mode, and it seems to stay on the warning page longer than it does anywhere else, but it wont let me actually put in it download mode from there.
I had a look around google and saw people have had the same problem, but everything I could find was when people had flashed a new rom/kernel etc. and something had gone wrong in the process. The weird thing about mine is that I haven't changed anything, even downloaded any new apps, for maybe a week, so it's not like something suddenly changed. I also wasn't using it when it started, it was just sitting on the table next to me.
Usually I can work these things out, but I'm stumped here. Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Nope, it didnt work, I left it out for maybe half an hour and nothings changed :/ anyone else got any ideas?
SDS thread and BootLoop identical questions posted .
What does Product Code say in download mode .
But if you cannot get to download mode then you need a service centre repair .
looks like u are facing SDA but a bit diffrend than a normal SDS.. mine still can go into download mode with blank product name..
If product name is blank in download mode then you got sudden death, consider a phone as a brick. Nothing will help, including repartitioning.
You need to contact service centre.
I'll check it in a minute, but if it is bricked, will any service center actually help me seeing as it's rooted and all?

AFAIK if it's sudden death then it's not possible to detect root and other modified things, or in other words - nobody has money to prove that you have been using unofficial firmware .

In terms of a service centre, will samsung have a list of them somewhere so I can find one near me?
So I contacted samsung and they gave me the link to book into a service centre etc, but I just realised that when I try to go into recovery mode, the CWM recovery logo comes up before going back to bootloop. Is there any way to get rid of that so that my root is completely untraceable?

If you can't flash anything with Odin (stock software) then you're screwed. Eventually you can try to enter recovery and flash "eraser" of recovery, but this requires working recovery... So if you actually can enter recovery then you can also flash anything, which will literally delete everything.
In other case, no, no way. But if you're lucky enough you may break it just by leaving your phone on for some hours in bootloop, haha.

To be honest think twice before physically crashing your internal memory, as it may void your warranty at all.
I'd try flashing stock firmware through odin, if it doesn't work I'd try flashing anything through recovery. If both of these methods fail just leave your phone in bootloop and hope that it'll automatically destroy everything...
Seriously though, you can either physically destroy internal memory or leave it in bootloop and hope for the best, eventually send them device in current status. Up to you, because you won't have a possibility to do anything else.

If I send it back to them as it is now it'll take them about 20 seconds I reckon before they see the CWM logo, realise its rooted and send it straight back, so I dont know what I'm gonna do hahah
So this guy online tried to make me send come cash via Western Union to China so that he can "buy my car and freight it over". I knew it was a scam so i kept msging on my Samsung Galaxy S3 with CM mod. In the end he got the ****s and next thing you know my whole OS is gone, i enter recovery mod there is nothing there, everything has been wiped out.
I can still go through all functions but i cannot mount anything. Is there any way to get my OS back?
I tried to use KIES to recover by default but it says i cannot update the device, i think its because i run CM?

Yes i was like you, i believe it is not possible for him just to hack my phone so i kept messing with him. But the fact that after i lead him on for 5 days and right after the last email i sent him my phone just went dead. I cannot bypass the Samsung screen during startup, and it seems like it might have been bricked.
I don't see how i been using CM for last year and nothing happen and next thing this happened because then it would have happen to alot of other people using CM mod.
i have been using cm for almost 2 years ( alot of nigerians tried to scamm via email ,but i don't respond to emails ( unknown ) via phone because of data scripts)) , and i have to say ,happend to me once while playing a game ,phone suddenly turned off ,tried to turn on and ended in a bootloop .
Once you roooted your phone and changed the rom kies become unavailable for firmware upgrades . Try use odin and flash rescue firmware maybe it will help with something . Follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30087735&postcount=6
Hello everybody,
I have ran into lot of issues in my Samsung Galaxy S3 I-9300. I bought it from UK(unlocked) two years ago.
The issue started with the recharge issues. It shows as it is charging but it doesn't charge and some times the battery suddenly increases by 30-50% on phone restart. And then one day I started encountering phone restart issue. I started losing files that I had copied or created during those times on my external SD card. I once saw that I had android robot fallen with red exclamation mark in the recovery screen. And then one day my phone won't go ahead of Samsung logo so I did a factory reset. After factory reset I thought everything will be fine but still I had few issues so I installed Kies and did a firmware upgrade from the Samsung site. But the recovery robot was still down with red exclamation mark. I thought rooting will help me in fixing it so I rooted the phone but no help. I finally installed stock recovery from odin and it fixed it. Everything looked fine. But I still had files getting deleted from SD card and phone auto restart issue. And recharging issue resurfaced as well and I was not able to recharge from wall charger. I had to switch off my mobile and recharge it from USB cable. I keep it overnight for approx. 8-9 hours at a stretch ans still charging would be around 60-70%. Yesterday my phone restarted on its own and now its getting stuck at Galaxy logo screen. Its not even going to Samsung screen. I can't go to recovery mode but I can still go to download mode. I tried installing stock recovery firmware today from odin and it failed. I can install stock image from odin but I want some solution as I can't keep on doing it again and again.
P.S: I did factory reset twice and after factory reset every time I restart few old applications were getting installed automatically which I had not selected.
Please help me guys.
Update:
Tried flashing stock recovery and stock rom. Nothing worked. Have took capture of the ODIN screen to give more clear idea. Thanks.

Try the rescue firmware here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30087735 << there are two versions you will find the pit file in the 4.1 version download. If this fails or issues come back then it will need service repair.
Bro, it isn´t a software problem, its your battery, it needs to be changed

I agree he may have a battery problem but that would not explain all the other issues with Odin and recovery etc. I would still recommend flashing rescue firmware first before paying out for a new battery.
Yeah, I guess he might have some problems with his rom, but is kinda wierd too. Hey Crazy Access, have you tried access to recovery from an apk?, some of them do it, like Quick Reboot, or quick boot, search for them in Google play, take a look on it
Thanks for the replies tallman43 and adaltavo.
Adaltavo, my phone is not booting at all. It's not going beyond S3 screen to Samsung logo so I can't try recovery from any apk.
I am going to try recovery method in the link provided by tallman43 and will come back with the results.
Meanwhile, if you have any other tips do tell me.
Thanks.

Hi. I tried following the steps in rescue link and still was not able to fix it. I have attached screenshot of the error. Hope it gives you more clarity where I am stuck.
Any help is appreciated.
In ODIN Mode my screen reads:
PRODUCT NAME: GT-I9300
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (2 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Official

You did not read the instructions in the rescue thread I gave you!! Are you seriously trying to brick your device? Why have you got nand erase all ticked in Odin this is a bad move where does it say to tick this!
Sorry to be harsh but you need to read instructions fully before attempting anything with your phone.Ttry again with Odin and follow the instructions exactly as posted in the screenshot in the rescue thread also maybe try Odin 1.85. But it looks like you have messed up your device even more. (Recommend Service repair) :crying:
Hi tallman. Thanks for the response. I actually downloaded the file from the link you gave, and there were four files but there was no pit file in it. So when I did search again in the forum for pit file I got another link where a user had the same problem and he did ticked the options so I tried that as well. And you were not harsh. It is irritating when you are trying to help and I didn't read the instructions carefully
I will try again and post results here.
Thanks for the help once again

After trying everything the ODIN still failed, so went to service station where they told that internal memory is corrupt and I need to replace motherboard. Thanks tallman and adaltavo for trying to help me out. Appreciate it. Hunting for new phone now.
