Hello everyone, I'm a bit of a noob so bare with me. Thanks for taking the time to hear me out.
I have a sim unlocked AT&T HTC One (M7) that I am using on T-mobiles network. I switched over last year and I don't have my AT&T account anymore. The phone is stock, not rooted at all, just sim unlocked.
I have not updated the HTC one at all since I've bought it, and I would like to update to 4.2.2 KitKat but I noticed I cannot update via T-Mobiles network. Help!!!!
P.S. Is there a way for me to update my phone manually without having to find someone with an AT&T sim card?

Updates are usually done over wifi rather than the current network, being on T-Mobile should have no effect on the updates. What happens when you check for updates.
Im in Mexico and I have the same problem..
HTC unlocked.. no update via OTA.. looks like ATT punished all the unlocked phones with no-sending the update.
I can't update the phone,
no via OTA
no via ROM
no via adb push rom.zip (access denied)
no nothing..

Hey mb_guy, thanks for the reply.
When I am connected to wifi or 4G-LTE and try to update via settings-->about-->software updates nothing happens. It doesn't even try to search for new updates. Another interesting thing is that when I try to search for updates on the phone, I see AT&T even though I have switched over to T-Mobile and am using the T-Mobile Sim Card.
P.S. I did pay for a sim unlock code from a website, could that be the reason why I am unable to update my phone?

Hello. Another newbie here. Could you post directions on how to use the above file? Do I need a PC, or is there some way copy the the directly onto my HTC One.
I have the same problem as the OP. I have a SIM unlocked AT&T HTC One that is stock with a locked boot loader. I have a prepaid AT&T SIM. But I cannot get the OTA update. I've tried several times to get the KitKat update, but each time it says no update available.

Actually when I try to update via ruu, I got an error.. fastboot.exe in windows.. and the installer shows in the messages in: checking header 1/5….
If I disconnect the cellphone.. There is an error with invalid copy or something like that..
A few days ago I tried with adb push rom.zip and I got an error with: permission denied (when I was trying to copy the rom to media/0/ etc..
Im starting to think that the problem is the "memory or storage" because I guess all the problems or the methods stuck trying to copy the files or something like that..
I stuck with all the methods basically :S

OK I've tried running the RUU from two different computers. One computer was running Windows XP and the other was running Windows 7. Each time I get to the point where the set-up wizard asks me to accept the license agreement. When I click on the "I accept" radial button and then click on next, the set-up wizard just shuts down.
I've tried it three times on the computer running Windows XP. On the third attempt I had the Task Manager running and the process just stops and disappears.
Can anyone offer any help.
I read on another forum that replacing the SIM card can help. So I went to my locate AT&T corporate store and got a new SIM card. No luck with that either.
I purchased this phone used It is in great shape. It looks new. It is running Build Number 3.17.502.3 CL246232 release-keys.
Because I bought a used phone, I just downloaded Connectbot and verified that the phone was not rooted.

I am using US tmobile amaze overseas so the only convenient solution for me was to buy an unlock code online. Now it has been unlocked. Ok, I was aware of the OTA upgrade since december time, but everytime I checked for upgrade in About Phone it turned out to say no update for me. And I am also aware the upgrade was planned to stop delivering in mid Jan, so I would have missed it forever.
Now the question: Are unlocked phone not eligible for pushed updates?
I am aware of the stock roms compiled by xboarders especially the deodex 1.43.531.5 version, but it must need custom recovery to install. Any other way for me to install the said version without wipeout?

Not Development related.
this is a question and not a development for the amaze. please post in correct section next time (General). Being that the phone is unlocked does not matter since you have not modified any system files. You also need to post more information like what carrier and what version are you on and trying to update to?
Binary, Would you please move this where it belongs. Thnx

Right. The phone has not been modified. I have tried the phone on Vodafone and Three UK during the update, but couldn't receive the OTA update, not even via wifi. My version is 1.36.531.5 TMOUS, wanting 1.43.531.5 TMOUS.

OP didn't say he has installed custom recovery so that has nothing to do with it. Sounds like his phone is stock. I'm not sure how OTA updates work when you're on another network other than Tmobile. I know that my Telus phone will never see an OTA update.

It will not upgrade bc the update is carrier related. According to HTC when I called, but I remember hearing a menu for support in europe. I had called in for something else. Although you can try contacting them. Also if you dont care about your warranty being voided then I suggest you unlock bootloader, root and flash the update manually or flash a custom rom. For non us customers your update should be 1.46 i think.

other than flashing a custom rom, only other way i can think of is this, it'll keep your bootloader locked, stock recovery, just like a brand new amaze with the ota update, but it will wipe absolutely everything...

Exactly.
Just backup your data to your external sdcard, backup your internal sdcard to your computer, download the PH85IMG.zip file for 1.43 rom, relock your bootloader if you haven't done so already (or have done it at all), place the PH85IMG.zip (named as such) onto the root of your external sdcard, boot into bootloader and flash the file.
Afterwards restore your backups.
hmmm makes me wonder now.. what kind of unlocked did the op mean? network unlock to use overseas or bootloader unlocked

Thanks so much for the help guys, but I am still stuck in the bootloader part. I have done: place PH85IMG.ZIP (exactly zip, around 400mb) onto the root of my EXTERNAL sdcard.
In the bootloader what I have got was this:
SD checking...
Loading...[PH85DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PH85DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PH85IMG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PH85IMG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PH85IMG.tar]
No image!
Loading...[PH85IMG.aes]
No image!
My phone is on stock rom, stock bootloader, stock recovery, everything is stock. Perhaps I didn't put it right in the root. Can you guys specify the root location? I mean /what?

Did you relock your bootloader?
mine was doing that too for awhile, so what i did was make sure the ONLY thing on my external sdcard was the PH85IMG.zip file, after that the phone recognized it without any problems
Are you sure it's not named as PH85IMG.zip.zip? When you downloaded the file, did you add the .zip extension? If so, remove the 2nd .zip extension, and you should be golden.

It's incorrect. I got that update straightway in December - in fact my Amaze is being used overseas and therefore certainly unlocked from T-Mobile..
I am trying to unroot my htc amaze from telus canada. I have followed the instructions using the all-in-one kit, and when I went to relock my bootloader, I got stuck in the fastboot screen, and when I tried to reboot, it kept getting me back to the same screen. I was able to unlock the bootloader again, and now when I try to access wi-fi, it says error under the wi-fi button in settings!
how do I fix this?

If you have a back up, restore it, but your best call is to download the stock zip file, place it on your sd card root, rename it PH85IMG and boot into the bootloader, should ask you if you wanna update, just say yes and let it restore everything to stock, then relock the bootloader, though locking the bootloader isn't exactly necessary.

Just put it directly on the sd card, not in any folders, rename the file to PH85IMG.

After the bar loads it just goes back into the phone? No option to install update?
No, there is no option to install. It just goes back to the main fastboot screen. I changed it to a zip file, because it was an exe file, and it didn't see it. The reason I want to unroot is to update to ics!
*frustrated.
If Dark Nightmare gave you an RUU for T-Mobile then it won't work. Be sure its a Telus RUU. Otherwise you need to do a lot more leg work.
Edit...NVM he gave you the right link. Is you phone originally a Telus Phone?

Lol I pay attention.
The question is, did you try the ICS leak by any chance?
Yes, it's a telus phone. I have not tried the ics yet, but that's what I want to install! Lol is there a link for the leaked ics?
Do you think it might be because I used Debloater and Debloater Remover? (was just following the instructions). no matter what I do, I keep getting that error.
Ok, so, I was able to fix that error that kept popping up!
Couple of quick questions before this one is locked up:
Do I need to re-root my phone, if I followed all those steps in the all in one tool kit?
And
Can someone post a link here on how I can install the latest version of ICS on my phone?

Unless you S-Off, there's no way you're upgrading to ICS until Telus release their version.
I am also a Telus Amaze user.
In this order, you need to:
1)Unlock your bootloader from HTCdev
2) Use Juopunutbear's S-off hack.
3) Flash the T-mobile RUU
4) Flash the ICS rom
5) Insert your SIM, connect to telus under mobile networks, and enter Telus' APN settings.
Be aware though, I can't seem to get MMS to send properly. Anyone have any ideas?

Did you remember to supercid before flashing the tmobile rom? And check the apn settings thread for the apn settings just in case they were incorrect, though in my experience the carrier pushes the settings no matter what device you're using.
I did Super-Cid the device. At least, I wrote 11111111 to CID.
APN is also correct, I set it up manually and my data connection and texting work just fine.
Could this be at all related to Telus using HSPA, while the TMOUS rom only has options to select WCDMA or GSM?
Thanks for the info on installing ICS. I think I will do it once we find out how to get mms working.
Don't hold your breath on the T-mobile version. I'm waiting for the Telus OTA so I can rip it apart and figure out what is going on.
In addition, anyone know of any risks for the few of us Telus users that are running the TMOUS rom? It shouldn't detect Telus' OTA, right?
Tmo using HSPA+ as well, the network set ups are practically the same, Try checking your mms settings in the app itself.
Hello,
I live in India and I purchased t-mobile s5 online and it already came unlocked and rooted. It was a bad esn set. I don't know how the previous owner unlocked it, but it was just 1 week old. So my guess is, he didn't asked T-Mobile for unlock code, but rather used some online services. Also, I'm unable to update my s5 via OTA and Kies method. While trying to update via OTA method, the following error message pops up:
"The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Samsung Kies on your PC, or visit a customer service center."
And while trying to update it via Kies, it simply fails with a error message.
So my question is, while upgrading my s5 (to android 5.0) via Odin method, will I loose my sim unlock? Will it revert back to being region locked and I would have to purchase an unlock code?
Thank you.

It does not update via OTA because it's rooted. If he used the network unlock code then is should be safe to upgrade via Odin. If it's properly network unlocked it's very hard to lock it again. Rooting and flashing will not affect that.
Also, you can unroot (search the thread on rooting to see how to unroot) the phone and then it should successfully update via OTA.
Plus, if you have the contact info from the original owner you might be able to get him to send you the unlock codes. That way you would have them.

Oh! I see. Thanks for the info, but I'm not sure how he unlocked it.
I'm no longer in contact with him. I sent him couple of messages inquiring about the same about a month ago, but he hasn't replied me since.
I tried unrooting the phone, but it had no effects. I was getting the same error message.
BTW, I used "Kingo Android root" software to unroot it. But since it didn't worked, I rooted it again using the same software.

I have At&T HTC One M8 which is rooted and unlocked
Android version: 4.4.2
Software version: 1.58.502.1
Baseband version: 1.16.21331931. LA11G_20.31A.4145.02L
Build number: 1.58.502.1 CL335549 release-keys
Currently the phone is using in india and not able to update to lolipop. Please provide details steps to update.
You won't get the update OTA, since you aren't connected to AT&T's network. This is specific to AT&T (most other versions can update regardless of network). And also probably the reason you are still on 4.4.2 (missed 4.4.4 update also).
Download the latest RUU to a computer (PC required). Connect phone to computer (backup any personal data you want to keep, the phone will be wiped), relock bootloader, and run the RUU.
RUU download and more detailed instruction on running it are at the bottom of the following webpage: http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-att/news/

Can you let us know the current status of your phone? Is it rooted, bootloader unlocked, S-ON?

its not rooted ( to the best of my knowledge), how do i check if the status of the bootloader lock and S-ON ?
upgraded but sync wont connect
did som snooping around and finally got around to successfully upgrading to lollipop 5.0.2.
redpoint's link was very helpful but i kept having difficulty in getting my phone into fastboot. after a dozen tries, i did some reasearch on youtube and found out that the start up and shut down quickly box under power setting had to be unchecked first. this was checked by default on my device.
After successfully upgrading my device, htc sync no longer connects to it. i have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the device severally, i keep getting the error message "The device needs to connect with the latest version of sync manager please check for update or download " even though i am already running the latest version which is 3.1.44.5
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the sync manager to no avail.
I really need help with this as I currently cannot restore my contacts, text messages, pictures etc
Is there anyway i can access my backup file without going through the sync manager ?

Okay guys, here we go....
I bought a "unlocked" M8. I tried to update the HTC software immediately. However, it said I needed to revert to official HTC software. I went to HTC.com and support page. During the support chat, she got me to install an RUU that belong to ATT. My phone wasn't made for art, not did I have art service. Now, I cannot surf the web, watch YouTube, download apps or anything. I can't do any of those things with cellular data, as I was able to before this ATT RUU. I can only make calls with my m8. If I'm on Wi-Fi, then I can surf the web, download apps, etc.
So, my question is..... How do I get rid of this RUU ATT? I want start fresh where I didn't have att and all the bloatware. I was able to do stuff with my cellular data where I'm not able to now.... What's up guys?
I've been trying to learn, and I think I gotta start with ADB. and flash a recovery:? I dunno. Please help guys. I'ma call HTC at next available opportunity.
AJ
Try factory reset
Yeah, I've tried that many times. I've erased the cache partition, done factory reset, etc. And I've rebooted to Fastboot USB MODE, hook it up to PC, and tried the other RUU. But it didn't work. I can't only make phone calls. I can't do anything else with the cellular service. What should I do? Start off by unlocking boot loader, right? With ADB. Or do I need to change ID numbers to match? Or should I use a custom recovery with adb?
Not enough info. Do a fastboot getvar all, and post the output. Be sure to delete IMEI and serial number, as these are personal info.

Meaning what? What RUU did you try (exact file name) and what was the result? Was there an error code, if so what did it say?
You need to be much more specific if you want proper help.

How can we know that, if you haven't told us the device's CID or MID in the first place, or the RUU (other than ATT) you tried to run?
If you installed an ATT RUU, and don't use ATT as your carrier, you will need to manually enter your carrier's APN info to get internet. That is probably your main problem as far as getting cell internet service.
