Succesfully rooted my sm-g900t. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

I use the cf autoroot. it worked like charm.
Now, this means the bootloader is unlocked right?
should i upgrade my firmware to the newest? from NCD to NCH, or should i just wait. advice?

You can upgrade to NCH - Chainfire used that firware to provide the root for our device, so you should be able to root again IF you do lose root.

thank you. i already downloaded the NCH firmware from kies. now im just waiting to see if anybody gives me a good reason not to do it proceed, lol.
loving this new phone.

Wait!
Chainfire works for this?
I thought it wouldn't because the bootloader was locked.
I assume that this triggers Knox right?
I really don't care, but would be nice to know.
And with root I can tether for free again then.

Yes, Chainfire released a root for the T-Mobile S5 - Chainfire Auto Root
Some people have already reported that it worked, so that means our bootloader is NOT locked...now I can get the phone without worries!
And Yes - This will trip Knox
The root is Based on NCH, so it will work on your phone.

According to Chainfire, if we were able to root using CF-Auto-root, then the bootloader is NOT locked. How do you figure it is locked if this method of root worked?

PLEASE do not make statements like this that will only confuse everyone trying to find ways to root and get recovery on their phone. You are completely mistaken. Chainfire himself said that if CF AUTO ROOT Can be flashed then the bootloader IS UNLOCKED - and trust me, he knows much more about this than you or I do)
PLUS - RECOVERY is now possible by flashing Phils Custom CWM - (from the International Thread) There is a file posted that specifically for our phone - it works beautifully on the TMO S5 - you can download it here: http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_A...d_Edition/klte It is a Unified version for TMO - SPRINT and VERIZON (Dev Edition) S5's. (SPecial thanks to Phil3759 and Chainfire for his CF AUto ROot)

Looks as if I was wrong. Apparently the bootloader is unlocked.

I talked to a T-Mobile employee and he said they only check that the serial matches, that it turns on, and that it doesn't have water damage or a cracked screen. So pretty much tripping Knox means nothing in terms of the JUMP plan

Be careful for what you said.
The situation is exactly same as Note 3 (only Sprint and T-Mobile versions have unlocked bootloader).
CF Auto root requires unlocked bootloader. That's why you never seen CF for ATT and VZW (except dev version) versions.
The procedure is to flash "customized" recovery in order to install SU, so unlocked bootloader is required.

Yes. Think if it as 2 levels of a hack. (I'm no pro so thus is a very generic description). With root you can do many more things than an unrooted phone (I rooted just to load all the apps in the multi window drawer). However, with an unlocked bootloader you can do even more (custom roms, overclock, nandroid.....which is a TOTAL backup of your phone, that can restore it to it's wxact state of when you nandroid it). I am rooted but did not unlock my bootloader (yet).

The main feature to unlocking the Bootloader is to have a custom kernel. Which handles the way the CPU works, which in turn with a custom kernel improve performance, and battery life.
I was under the impression you had to be rooted to unlock the bootloader but I guess not now
Be patient. No need to hurry. Read up until you have more confidence and context. Sounds like you are learning fast though.

OTA 4.3 Root method Works

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this or not but I came across this method through Google. It worked for my Verizon Note 2 with the OTA 4.3 update. I also used Foxfi until the update. With Titanium Backup, I froze the KNOX security and Foxfi works again without asking to contact VZW. Thanks to the Devs who are responsible for this method. I hope it is ok that I shared the link.

I don't think that downgrading is possible without tripping the KNOX security counter. As far as the s4, this root version should root the phone, and I believe that I have read somewhere about a safestrap app thst allows you to flash roms and such.

This should work if you are stock 4.4.2 (KitKat)
Chainfire's Autoroot.

Please use this as a starting point to read about what you are going to do.
It's not hard, but you should read up on the procedure before doing it. Regular bootloader (which you probably already have) is sufficient. You shouldn't need the engineering bootloader. I didn't.
Good luck. (Read First, Do second).

No...towelroot will NOT work for sch-i605 at all. Device is not supported. There is no root method that i am aware of at this point for us. I check in with xda everyday just hopping.:crying:

As of now guys we all are stuck with a locked and stock 4.4 sch-i605. When or if they find a method i dont know if knox would be a huge deal at that point. I rooted my wifes sch-i747 (att s3) and supersu disabled knox no problem. Seems that the devs may have moved on to other projects. Lets just hope SOMEONE gets around to our device. --waiting patiently--
Considering that Knox is the premier security program to be included on every Android L phone not just Samsung, I doubt the amount of time needed to circumvent is not worth the effort on the 605. Don't hold your breathe that we will ever get root.

the only thing you can do (and idk if everyone can do it) is to odin flash back to 4.3 (MJ9) and then root from there.
unfortunately that doesnt include a bootloader unlock. but then you can safestrap and install /any/ touchwiz rom

Can you confirm if you've actually been able to successfully do this? If you have, then this would be great news for those who want root, but took the OTA up to 4.4.2.

Yes, I did this myself on my phone before I switched out the motherboards.
From ND7, you can flash back to MJ9, and then you can root, and then use safestrap to install certain specific ROMs
I will edit this post if i find a link to a tutorial
Damn I downgraded from ND3, not ND7, my apologies.
Here is the Link anyway http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2752360
I don't have a way to test if there is a way to downgrade.

Cool. Thanks for the confirmation. I knew you could go from ND3 back to MJ9, but I had read somewhere else where someone speculated that you couldn't revert back to MJ9 from ND7 due to the locked bootloader issue... I'm still on 4.1.2 with unlocked bootloader, so I can't test it either.
