[Q] com.android.keyguard problem - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After flashing a new version of CM11, i found myself in a loop upon startup where many of the core applications of android stopped working. When i reverted back to the old version that worked(I didn't have a backup saved but rather i flashed the older nightly of the rom again), I noticed that my home button, lock screen, and notification bar/toggle screen wasn't working any more. I looked into it and looked at my apps, and saw an unnamed app with the description "com.android.keyguard". upon looking this process up, i found out that when people disabled this process their home button, lock screen, and notification bar stopped working (coincidental eh?), and decided that this was the source of the problem.
Is there any way to load on a new, fresh version of "com.android.keyguard" or should i just do a factory reset? I would prefer to save my local data, but if i must do it in order to have a phone that does anything useful, i obviously will.
If I need to do a factory reset, what is the cleanest and smartest method of doing so? I know titanium backup can cause a lot of problems (and in this case i'm worried it will duplicate com.android.keyguard), but I assume there is some sort of method that makes a factory reset while retaining the bulk of user data very easy. am i correct?

Do a full wipe and flash again, check the md5 of your download.
Only use titanium for use apps, never system apps or settings. There is no easier way to change rom.

I have the same problem now..I have did the full reset. But the problem is not going at all.
What should I do?

Please help, question about phone factory reset upon reboot

I am relatively new to android and had a question. I have my phone rooted and installed the BAMF Remix ROM. I have also changed the radio to the one recommended in the original BAMF Remix thread. I have been having problems with the phone doing a factory reset upon reboot. The phone is not rebooting by itself. But occasionally after I shut the phone off, when I power it back on, it has done a factory reset and I have to set the phone up again. I have had this occur with the BAMF remix 1.5, 1.6, and 1.7. My phone's baseband version is 1.16.00.0402w_1.
Can anyone tell me if this is the result of the ROM? Could it be the radio or maybe an app? Any help or advice would be appreciated. The BAMF Remix has been working great for me in terms of battery life, its just getting to be a pain to set up the phone again every week.
Thanks in advance.
Hmm.. I haven't tried the BAMF ROMs yet,but I've never had a phone reset itself like that.. Odd.
I'd suggest trying a different ROM for a bit and see if that stops it. If not, you may have an issue with the phone's memory or maybe even the SD card?
In the meantime, I'd grab Titanium Backup. The pro (Paid) version would be best, but if you don't want to pay for it just use the free version and back up all your apps and settings. Then if it happens again, just restore those. OR set up the phone the way you want and do a Nandroid backup in clockwork recovery. That way you can boot back into recovery next time it happens and restore a working backup with everything already set up.
Hope you figure it out soon.
i personally would clear everything three times or more;cache..data, dalvik, and battery stats. and use recovery not Rom manager then check the MD5 sums on the radio and rom to insure they are not corrupted in anyway. and i would strongly suggest using titanium back up;it will save your apps, and the data for apps, and system settings, its really a great tool

[Q] Alpha-X ROM ICS --- Keeps rebooting! HELP!

PLEASE HELP!!
I installed the Alpha-X ICS ROM for Evo 3D. The problem that I'm facing is that it keeps re-booting to "No Service" state.
I've already tried toggling the "Airplane" mode method - the moment I turn Airplane mode off, the status bar shows that I'm connected to Sprint but within a second starts rebooting (showing the ICS start up screen animation) and goes in a loop for 5-6 times and then ends up back with "No Service" state.
Please help as I really like this ROM. I am a newbie here, hence XDA doesn't allow me to post directly to the Alpha-X thread.

Hello,
How did you flash this ROM? Are you on HBoot 1.5?
If so, you will need to re-flash this ROM using Fastboot (PM Me if you cant find the instructions)
Yes, I'm on HBoot 1.5 and flashed it using Flash GUI.
I was earlier using ClearROM.
Update: I guess, i realized the problem - during the first time I had flashed this ROM, I had cleared all data & cache 9basically factory reset). It had worked fine.
Once in, I used Titanium backup to restore all my app data (including system data)... I guess that system data is causing this issue. I re-did the entire process (factory reset & flash) and now it's working fine.
I'll go ahead and try restoring only user app this time and update back.
This just proves my "Noob"ness, I guess

I just wrote a post about this lol. Yes, it is only the system spp/data that will cause the issues. You shouldn't have problems restoring all of your user apps and data. I am running ALPHA X with all of my apps and data restored through TB with zero problems.

LOL....restoring system data can cause all sorts of hell for you as Bamba1260's already pointed out and you've already figured out the hard way, and there's nothing wrong with being a "noob" either, but keep in mind if you're looking for a stable and fully functioning phone or prone to freaking out when something goes wrong.....this is after all an ALPHA (experimental / for testing and bug reporting purposes only) rom. Indeed it is a very good alpha state rom, but things are likely to and should be expected to go wrong with it periodically.

Yeah.. that's one more thing I did realize.. but was so enamored by the ICS ROM that I wanted to "taste" it one way or other..
Anyway, since I'm not done with my first 10 posts, I will have to post this bug(?) here for everybody's FYI that the GPS doesn't seem to work with this ROM.
So, know before you jump...
P.S. I still love this ROM - one of the smoothest that I've tried.

Help Date & Time issues when changing batteries!

Hello there.
Somebody please HELP!!
Okay I have a serious problem, I'm on CheckROM V6 and lately I'm facing this problem when I change batteries, I charge them on a wall charger the original one from SAMSUNG.
When I remove the battery and put a fully charged one the date and time changed to 2:00AM , Feb-1-2000 and the device becomes laggy plus I keep getting security warnings on every web page I go to.
The problem last 5-10 minutes and then the time and date return to the network preset, I tried to uncheck the network settings, changed modems, kernels, wiping everything possible and fixing permissions..
Nothing happened.
Thank you in advance.
Reflash stock rom & see if you can reproduce the problem.
If you don't have the problem with stock, then it's a problem with the rom you're using. In that case, do a completely clean reinstall of the rom (do a factory reset first) & do not restore system apps & in particular do not restore system data. Ideally, you'd do a clean install of all your apps too.

Thanks, will try that.. But I did a full wipe and re-installed the same custom ROM I'm on and nothing changed!
I understand that. And the reason you need to test it out on stock is to see if it's a problem with that custom rom or possibly something else.

[Q] lollipop worked for 10 hours, now its stuck

Hi,
Last night I installed the new stock lollipop. Initially I had a problem with rooting it but eventually everything was working fine. I've used Philz recovery and cf-auto-root. All seemed fine, and I've got all my apps, accounts, etc. back.
This morning I woke up and it looks as if at 6:02am the phone just froze. The strange things are (1) I could turn on and off the display so it was not completely frozen, just the UI (displaying new screens and receiving a response from the keys or the touch screen). (2) I thought to reboot into recovery and when I did - it was the stock recovery! not sure what happened to Philz that was there before?
In any case, I did clear cache and restarted. The logo came up but after 20 sec I've got "unfortunately, media storage has stopped". Of course - it did not receive any response from keys or the touch screen so I could not release this message - only on-off worked. After a minute or so, I saw that other services are crashing...
Of course I can do yet another "wipe to factory" but I was wondering if anyone experience the same. If I will make it work after clear to factory - I'm afraid it will behave the same after a day or so... Any suggestions?
Thanks!

This happened to me. I had to do a factory reset.
I seriously do not recommend cf auto root(because its not designed for this firmware). Use chainfire's update SU zip that you flash through a recovery. That update SU zip will prevent the stock recovery from being re-flashed. In addition, I always do a factory reset (wipe entire internal storage) before updating the ROM since I root. If I didn't root or anything, I wouldn't wipe my data. But when we root and mess with stuff, plus all the tries to prevent root, it conflicts sometimes. So a factory reset is always best. I was able to use Titanium Backup to restore everything. Just forgot to backup my Internal SD card.. xD

Thanks elesbb, I saw your message just now but I have my phone working already since few hours ago after a 2nd stock reflashing. If I have the same issues as before - I will use chainfire's update SU.
What I did find is that once I enable accessibility (to apps like Tasker, and an LG bluetooth headphone I have (so it could announce notifications) the phone becomes unstable; it just went through 2 boot loops but eventually recovered... Hopefully it will stay stable.

GAPPS Fail on Nandroid Recovery

I have been running various flavors of AOKP ROM's on SG3's for several years now. I recently obtained a refurb S3 and set it up to do the usual.
It came with stock TW 4.4.
Using ROM Manager I installed CWM and made an image of the stock phone. I then installed my AOKP variant and loaded my apps, blah blah. All is good.
I've since decided I want to revert back to TW for awhile. I restored my nandroid and I get the interminable GAPPS failure messages. I have on occasion been able to get it to calm down and have a working phone, usually be uninstalling play app and clearing framework services cache. This is extraordinarily painful and doesn't always work. I've done all the usual, reinstall GAPPS, etc., and basically it is a MAJOR headache just trying to get the image to function.
But....When it does work the phone does not see my SIM card, IMEI, nothing.. I have no mobile connectivity. Restoring the AOKP nandroid brings me back to a fully functioning phone.
So my questions are:
Can anyone explain to me why the TW nandroid is giving all these GAPPS issues and how to circumvent/fix it?
Why is the system seeming to lose my IMEI/SIM info? Is there a way to fix that? Should I have done something different in my setup/nandroid creation?
Lastly - I don't quite understand how CWM works. There is a recovery image. When I do factory reset, is it resetting to this recovery image as opposed to the factory TW? I seem to think so, when I do a reset I see the android version is not what my factory one is.
Thanks all.
