It is essential to know what build or system version of the software and carrier as the methods vary depending on that. It's a bad idea to just randomly try rooting methods because of potential to brick (soft or hard) and different root methods can leave different files behind that might stop the actual methods that could root it from working properly. But since the phone is so new and not real popular to most devs, it might be a bit before someone figures out rooting it.

Do you also encounter the problem without recovery mode?. I cant seem to boot in recovery mode but I can in download mode.
For most newer LG phones you can get to recovery 2 ways :
"adb reboot recovery" from the adb prompt (if you have USB debugging enabled and working adb drivers on the PC) or hold Power and Volume Down at the same time until the LG logo pops up, then release them and press them both again - the hard reset menu will appear. Hit power and it will reboot into recovery. The manual way can be a pain and tricky to get the timing right on some devices.

I never really did consider that it might leave files. Maybe I'll bear this burden for a couple of months until some developers found a method.

I'm looking forward on having my phone rooted. I'm always checking this thread. Thank You.

Guys, come on. lets have our resources packed up. I'm craving for root. I can't root. Can't boot to recovery mode (no recovery - only boots into normal) so I can't use IOroot25. Cydia Impactor, Motochopper, Universal Root, Softwares for one click root, framaroot, z4root. Nothing works.

Not yet. I only tried to use ioroot which doesnt work for LG L70. Because i dont have recovery mode and IOroot uses recocery mode. But I'll try to cantact the ioroot developers.
I've checked via PartitionTable app that L90 has recovery partition. So the problem is to get to recovery. Adb command and power&vol- just reboots the phone in normal mode.

I'm considering buying this phone model, the LG L70, and want to thank es0tericcha0s for this info, I was able to get to the factory reset menu this way, as instructed, BUT when I hit power at that menu, the phone will only reboot normally. This is because the hard reset menu or factory reset menu has only 2 options, Yes (factory reset) or No. The No option is highlighted when I hit power, so the phone reboots. If I select the Yes option, and hit power (haven't tried it yet), I assume the phone will proceed to reset itself to factory defaults.
BUT what I WANT to do, if possible, is get to a recovery menu where I have options to wipe phone/factory reset, wipe cache, install update from sd card, reboot, etc. Does this type of menu exist for the LG L70?

Hi DannyPt, if your bootloader is locked you can't install CM based roms (be careful ), if it's unlocked you could try with a better recovery.
Cheers. Good luck.

Hi DannyPt
* You could connect your L9 in S/W mode, if your bootloader is unlocked you could read that in the screen.
* Or you could try dialing the hidden menu 3845#*760#
change the last three numbers with the ones of your model, the example is for LGP760. Navigate to the bottom and you will see that option.
Cheers. Good luck.
Edited: your "recovery" is a bootstrap or second init recovery, it's not in recovery.img.

Hi all,
Thanks in advance for any help. I originally was attempting to root my phone following this guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277639. I was able to use the software update tool several times to flash to V20B and V20D. After a few tries, I read on the authors forum to flash to v10g as I was having some issues (got the CWM L9 Recovery tool installed, and after booting to it, got stuck on encrypting). So I flashed down to v10g. After that, phone wouldn't boot. So have attempted to use the upgrade tool to flash back to V20D or B and have tried following this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085344. Even though I can get the S/W Upgrade screen, the software upgrade tool keeps stopping at 15% and tells me the cellphone is not connected. Even though I had gotten it to work before at this same method, I re-installed the drivers and even tried the whole process on a 2nd computer with no luck. I'm guessing the downgrade to v10g is the cause of the issues I'm having, but do not have any idea at this point how to fix it. I have spent hours searching the forums, but have not found a solution yet, so any help or links to posts that could help would be appreciated.
I have the P769.
And if you happen to know why I get stuck on encrypting after using and rebooting from L9 recovery tool, that would be an added bonus. (found it, looks like it was busybox x, will try when I get phone back up).
I have tried on computer running Win 7 64 bit and Win 8 64 bit.
Thanks!

I followed your directions. It seems like we have made progress but am still having issues. It did install some updated drivers, and with the online LG support Tool, seems to find the connection, but stops due to an error at 15%. I also noticed that the screen goes black on my phone and S/W upgrade is no longer displayed. Don't know if there is a timeout were it does this or it is shutting off because of the update process and not coming back on.

I do not see that option. Let me confirm that we are running the B2CAppSetup (LG Mobile Support Tool) and not the UpTestEX_mod2_marwin (R&D Test Tool) program at this point.
Nvm, it looks like with the update, even running the R&D Test Tool, it takes you to the LG Mobile Support tool which will crash if you have it blocked. Same results when not blocked, stops at 15%.

Still stops at 15%. I have also tried running fastboot. I get about halfway, but when it comes to the part to reconnect to the phone, it just hangs.
Well, using fastboot, I have got the LG tool to now progress past the analysis part and get to the actual update part, but now stops at 15% there. Progress, but am at a loss at what to try at this point.
To sum up, phone will not boot at this point. Can get to S/W upgrade mode on phone. Phone stops at 15% at update portion.
I have tried the offline and online update methods, along with fastboot (get through the entire steps on the computer, but at end screen shows LG logo with fastboot in corner, don't know if this is normal).
I have tried a few more solutions to no success. Luckily, my phone was still under warranty with T-Mobile for about 2 weeks, so sent it in since it wouldn't turn on (unless you did S/W upgrade mode). Hopefully, they wont notice why. Thank you for your suggestions Bojo.

Did you enable USB Debugging? Did you see the prompt to accept the RSA key on the phone when you plug it in? Often time on LGs it pops up behind the screen that shows up to select MTP/PTP/Charging modes and it's easy to miss it. Sometimes you have to toggle through all the modes to get it to pop up. Thinking about it now...I know a lot of LGs for VZW need to be in...Internet Tethering mode? or whatever it is they call it, for root stuff to work, so might have something to do with that mode loading the correct drivers for adb.

Hi, first of all i think my issues had already been solved
but for other LG smartphones, not D618.
My problem occurred when I playing around with hidden menu, and I hit reset button on the FOTA menu,
and then my phone restart and stuck in a screen that I never seen before, the screen show three line of text:
● FOTAFS_Open/cache/fota/log/FSUA_LOG_000.txt, 0, No such file
● FOTAFS_Create/cache/fota/log/FSUA_LOG_000.txt, 66, No such file
● FOTAFS_Close 0
So I googled about that and I found on a Vietnamese forum that it can be fix using LG FlashTool. But the problem is the tool need a correct .dll file for each device and I can't find anywhere the exact .dll file for LG G2 Mini D618. So if anyone could provide me the file I will be very thankful coz my phone been dead for 1 day.
I already tried flashing the kdz file, but no luck.
I tried to sideload stock recovery via adb but adb didn't detect my device.
Please help me solving this

But the problem is the tool need a correct .dll file for each device and I can't find anywhere the exact .dll file for LG G2 Mini D618. So if anyone could provide me the file I will be very thankful coz my phone been dead for 1 day.
I already tried flashing the kdz file, but no luck.
I tried to sideload stock recovery via adb but adb didn't detect my device.
Please help me solving this

You don't need any .dll , the LG FlashTool is designed for all LG smartphones, just follow my guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/g2-mini/general/guide-revert-to-stock-lg-softwareeasy-t2824479 , if you have any additional questions feel free to ask. , hope you're gonna fix your phone.

No, I'm still using stock recovery, the phone is rooted.
Yes I can get in to the download mode, I already tried flashing kdz and usually if the bootloop is on the lg logo, it can turn back on normal, but now it keep booting on that screen.

HI I already tried this, but when the LG software trying to download the firmware, it always quit around 50% and when I tried again about 3 times it always quit. Can I do "Upgrade recovery" in offline?

i got same error too at the first flash. i think the firmware is corrupted. retry to download the firmware,i hope you can successfully flashing the firmware
Now my phone turn back on to normal, I finally took it to the LG service center, and they replaced my motherboard.
So if any of you guys experienced the same, I'm telling you there's no software solution to fix this, it seems because I rooted the phone and somehow it lock the motherboard when it trying to perfomed a FOTA update.
Steps:
1. Turn Off Any Virus Protection Software
2. Download MP26010j_00_0316.kdz To Flash Your Phone Back To Stock
3. Install LGMobileDriver_WHQL_Ver_4.2.0.exe
4. Next Install LGUP_Store_Frame_Ver_1_14_3.msi
5. Make Sure That You Have Your Phone Connected (Take Battery Out Then Put It Back In Hold Volume Up And Connect With Micro USB) So LGUP Can Be Able To Recognize It
6. Then Double Click UPPERCUT.exe to open up LGUP Now But Only Thing Is That Uppercut will try to verify just ignore and if it doesn't open up just open lgup from desktop and its going to view phone as unknown
7. Unplug Phone But Keep LG Download Mode On And Exit LGUP
8. Open LGUP First And Then Connect Phone Which Should Recognize Phone As MP260
9. Click Upgrade, Make Sure That Bin Is Checked And Select File MP26010j_00_0316.kdz To Flash And Click Start
10. Your Done! Video Coming Soon

Looked and saw two links for the newest kdz. I'm in the USA so TMO =north america.
But I 'm curios what TMI stands for, no info on that page of region listings.

Not sure about TMI, use TMO North America
I figured I'd post this here to, because I am thinking about getting this phone. It's $99 at metro pcs right now, that's really hard to pass up.
In a twrp+root thread there are some that cannot get root, with the last LG firmware update, so I'm guessing this is a soft brick as apposed to a hard brick.
So, had a question.
If in the case of the like 10% of the people that do this root, the phone won't root or bricks, if I get this phone and and that happens, is it possible to flash the phone via the LG program, with a KDZ file and go back to stock like in this thread? If so I will probably buy this phone tomorrow (crosses fingers the kdz trick will work)
From looking at the videos, it looks as if the LG program is similar to the Samsung Odin program as far as flashing goes, am I correct in this?

I know this thread has not been active for a while. However I have a Metro LG K20 Plus phone and want to change the firmware to T-Mobile. I have not been successful doing this as I always get invalid firmware, because LG UP recognizes the phone as a metro phone. Is there a way to succeed in getting the T-Mobile firmware on the phone?
thanks in advance.

Did you find any answers to this? I have one that is bricked. It will not show up when connected to a computer at all
Virus warning from Avira in Uppercut
lg k20 plus soft bricked?
So I've searched high and low and have tried suggestion after suggestion with no avail. To start things off, I have a soft bricked LG k20 plus. Everything was working fine until the other day when I went to flash a kernel, and when the phone restarted, the screen was a dark grey/black color. I rooted the devices using massis method, removed SU and then rooted using Magisk. Like I said everything was working fine and for whatever reason I decided to try a different kernel. That's when it all went downhill. So now when I turn the phone on, the screen is still blank but it vibrates. When I've connected it to a computer, on my Mac it doesn't show up with ADB or FASTBOOT but in my device tree it comes up as LGE Android device. I borrowed my friends laptop since it runs windows, and my Mac is a dinosaur. ADB doesn't pick it up either, but in a USB hub it says the same thing, LGE Android device and lower down it comes up as TP-LINK. Now tryin to use LG Flash tools doesn't work, LGUP doesn't see my device, and when I tried to extract the KZD file, when I go to select it from the list there is no file to choose. Since I can't see anything on my screen, I can't tell if I'm in download mode, bootloader, etc, but in my device tree sometimes my phone will pop up an bootloader interface and I can use fastboot commands. When I was last able to see my screen, yes, USB debugging was on, I had a recovery, but since I can't see anything on my screen I can't seem to boot into recovery. If I could I would wipe cache and all. I think I may have read too many article and suggestions as to what to do because nothing seems to be working, and don't seem to find anything else related closely enough to my issue. Anyone have a clue as to where I should start? I'll have to give my friend back her laptop soon, and since my mac is so old, and the whole PC vs Mac feud, my computer won't be of much help. Any advice my hair strands would greatly appreciate before they rest are pulled out lol
