Which SD card? - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Accessories

Hello,
Just ordered a Note Pro 12.2.
Now I need an SD card and not sure which one to buy.
I want a 64gb one with the top performance (read/write speeds), should I get San Disk or Samsung?
Also, should I get a screen protector or is it useless?
Regards,
NeoXx

I have the SanDisk, but the Samsung would be fine as well.
I am normally against screen protectors, but have ordered the MIME one as the Note Pro is not Gorilla Glass.

I didn't know this, so what material is the screen made of, and any idea how scratch proof it is?

I have both the Samsung and the San Disk. I can't tell the difference in operation.

Samsung doesnt specify what the screen material is. It likely could be gorilla glass even though they dont say it. It seems rather resilient to me and considering they use gorilla glass on everything else the make......but I also ordered the mime. I want to use mine without a flip cover.

|t says here they do ..

It's Gorilla Glass 3.

I got the SanDisk 128GB microSDXC. It offers a ton of storage with quick transfer speeds. It has been reliable and comes with an adapter in case you want to transfer files to and from a PC. I haven't tried a Samsung one, but I can tell you that Sandisk has been good in my experiences. Got mine for sale on Amazon for $100. Normally I think it's around $130 but I'm sure you can find a deal somewhere.
Also, I have a screen protector from BoxWave. It is pretty good and very affordable. I personally would not risk it, especially if you're ike me and plan to use this tablet/stylus for drawing. Scratches and scuffs will cause distractions while creating an image and maybe even interfere with your drawing depending how deep the scratch may be. Be aware that you probably will want to switch out the rubber nib on the stylus for the plastic one since pretty much all screen protectors create more friction unless you get a really expensive glass screen protector, or a high quality hard plastic one.

This is an old thread and I had answered a similar question in a more recent one. For others looking for a fast 64GB card I'd recommend the Sandisk Extreme Plus or the Extreme Pro. There IS a difference in performance between those and the cheaper cards for those who care about transfer speeds. Key to picking IMO is to find cards with high rated write speeds. The Extreme Plus line is rated by Sandisk as having up to 50MB/s write speed, 80MB/s read speed. Looking at their specs on Sandisk's site one will notice that they do NOT rate the write speed of their Sandisk Ultra Class 10 cards. Instead they'll just say "Write speed lower" when compared to their 40MB/s read speed.
Having one of the 64GB Extreme Plus and one 64GB Ultra I did some testing with USB 2.0 and 3.0 cables from a windows 7 workstation by timing file transfers to my Note Pro. Results are in the other thread linked below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52443880&postcount=8
These are simple timed tests and they're clearly geared towards larger file transfers. Most memory will slow down significantly for random writes of very small files. For all I know the tables would turn in random small writes but since that's not what I do with external microSD I care not to test that.
Bottom line from my experience is that between a Sandisk Ultra (or other comparable Class 10 card) and the higher end Extreme Plus cards you will see significant improvement in transfer speed even on USB 2.0. For those like me who are impatient the nearly 2x cost upfront is a gift that will keep on giving for a long time down the road. My one wish is that they'd come out with larger capacity ones than just 64GB. I'm excited for the future when these faster high capacity cards come down in price and become the norm.

Can you access all 128gb on your Note? Samsung's specs list the device as only capable of reading 64gb.
(Sorry for bringing this post back from the dead!)

Several posters say that the 128GB SD card works.

Thanks, I eventually found more threads about the Note Pro and Tab Pro accepting 128gb cards. I ended up ordering a Samsung EVO 128gb for $88 just now.

Hey sorry, just saw this notification. If you're still wondering, I am 99% sure it reads the full capacity. I can look tomorrow to double check though (I'll edit this post)
Edit: wow sorry didn't realize I had already responded and that was such an old comment. Don't know why I had a new notification on this thread....

Lol...

I still have my Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and I just purchased the SanDisk 1tb micro sdxc card for it and cannot get it to work as it should, at it's full formatted capacity. Has anyone had any luck with this card on this tablet? Can you recommend a good, fairly modern custom Rom for this tablet that would still allow me to access Google services and apps?

Hi! Thanks for bringing this topic up again.
I do not have an answer to your question(s) but I was wondering what the maximum capacity can be for this device.
It supports up to 128 GB in official notes but what's possible in reality?

Best MicroSDHC card for the money

I'm not trying to spend alot of cash..Maybe 40$.
I've got a 2gig now and it's just too small for my needs. I had Android plus music and photo's and it's full.. I'm looking for a 8 or 16 gig.
What should I be looking for?? I've never considered the "class" of a card..Is that about the same as the Cas Latency of ram??
Anyway..Whats the best for my budget?? I"m looking to order tonight so any help ASAP would be welcome..lol
Thanks

Edit: I don't need an adapter is it would make it cheaper..lol
8gb is around 19..20$..but stay with class 4 as lower class has bad effect on card reqding speed, streaming speed and data trasfer speed..u will lose it on class2

Good call, I don't like PNY stuff in general. I bought a PNY USB thumb drive on impulse. Needed it last minute for a business trip, and it seemed like a good price for the capacity. It was really cheaply made, and the USB port part eventually pulled apart from the plastic body.
Also got a PNY SD card (not a Micro, but a regular SD for my camera). Again, probably since it was good capacity for the $$$, and I figured its a simple SD card, what can go wrong? Well the plastic body started splitting apart, and the "read only" lock switch fell out. I actually found the little plastic lock switch part (was in my travel bag) and was able to super glue the card back together.
Moral of the story, I'm personally going to stay away from PNY products from now on.
Sandisk makes very reliable SD cards. But they tend to be a bit pricier than other brands, and class 4 and higher are hard to find in the higher capacities for the Sandisk. I'd stick with a reputable dealer, like Newegg (as you mentioned). There are lots of SD cards on eBay, but lots of them are fakes, tampered with (and relabeled) to make them report higher capacity than they really are.
I haven't gotten a new card yet but founf out my 2 gig is actually not half bad. I was adding the droid files to my card after a format and the write speeds got to 5.25 megs.guess its better then what I thought it was..maybe a class six?
Isn't there an app that tells you all that stuff?
Sent from my MSM using XDA App
I bought one of these from eBay, and am very pleased with it. It's a class 6 with USB reader.
A GENUINE SanDisk 16GB micro SDHC can be found easily on eBay for under $40 shipped. Avoid "bulk" and janky Hong Kong sellers. Buy blister pack retail sealed SanDisk to get the real thing. The fakes out there are staggering.
The effort is well worth it, the 16GB is very conservatively classed as 2, but far out-performs in use as attached benchmark shows.
It plays Avatar silky-smooth and apps on card fly. Too much room will seem silly in a few months usage!

Hey there.
NewEgg is definitely where you want to shop. I have this (Although my purchase came with all the adaptors):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211351
Great product, completely satisfied and great quality. Going strong now for over 9 months without a single data loss issue, or anything really to complain about at all.
I purchased this one from Newegg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208453
So far it has been working great, I dont have any read/write test stats. But I have been listening to music, moving files, and watching video's without any problems.

[Q] MicroSD Card

Does anyone know the largest microsd card that the t-mobile touchpro will take.I have seen post saying 16bg and some saying 32gb.Also does anyone know anything about the generic microsd cards on ebay there really cheep I want to know if there any good.
Be careful with buying SD cards on eBay. Unless its a reputable seller, you have no way of knowing if its a counterfeit card until you receive it. They will sometimes sell cards that claim a certain capacity, and even indicate the same GB when you insert it in your phone or PC, but then it will not actually hold that amount of data when you try to transfer files. For instance, it will be sold as a 16 GB, but actually a 8 GB card.
I don't know about the T-Mobile unit, but the Tilt 2 takes the SanDisk 32gb without issue.
EVERY 32GB microSD sold on eBay is fake UNLESS retail Sandisk which NEVER sells below $100 currently.
I'm using a 32gb card right now in my TMo TP2 without issue. As for micro sds on EBay, be carefull. Most all outside the states are fradulent even if they have high feedback thats good. If theyre selling micro sds someone before you has bought one, read thier feedback and see what they thought, be suspicious if there have been 100 "sold" but no one has left feeback or the feedback is blocked. If it seems to good to be true, it probably is. Although I did buy mine on Ebay for 25 shipped and got in a matter of days so thats not always the case.
There are limits, and then there are practical limits
32 GB is the limit for SDHC. As of today, you may want to stay with 16 GB since none of the 32 GB cards are very fast since they just came out. You can get a 16 GB that is class 6 which can run most applications without a perceptible speed penalty versus built-in RAM. if you are using the RAM for storing media the slower, bigger card would work fine.
Class ratings for SD cards can be misleading, either intentionally inflated for sales appeal or conservatively rated as some top brands choose.
The Sandisk 32GB SD is rated just Class 2, but FAR exceeds those specs in actual usage. I run every program possible from SD along with Android 2.2 entirely on SD. Speed is very, very good.
So good that slowdowns are the last factor to suspect with good Class 2 SD's.
Avoid the cheap eBay 32 GB cards; they are fakes. Expect to pay between $100 and $150 for the genuine SanDisk card. I bought two a couple months back from a reputable dealer. I use one in my Tilt 2 and the other holds MP3s that I play on my car's sound system using a cheapo mini USB reader I picked up at Fry's.

SD card Class ratings refer to write speed only, not read speed. You will see this impact the most when copying big files to the card. Similar to what you mention, I've seen a couple customer reviews of the Sandisk cards on Newegg, and it seems some of them do seem to far exceed the write speed Class 2 rating.
I've recently updated to a Sandisk Class 2, 16 GB card. In a completely unscientific test (just transfer a decent sized file, timed how long it took; repeated with a couple different files), the write speeds seem pretty in-line with the Class 2 ratings. No issues at all playing music and video from the card.
I'm guessing that similar to MHz ratings for computer CPU chips, the manufacture of SD cards is not an exact science. So no two cards (even from the same batch) will have the exact same performance. They each have just get tested and tossed into different categories, depending on whether they meet the requirements for the "higher" ratings or not. Unluckily, it seems that the one I got does not far exceed the Class 2 ratings as some have experienced.

Was your Sandisk 16GB sealed, retail blister packaging or cheaper "bulk" without any packaging what-so-ever? I deeply mistrust "bulk" sales of flash media being either secondary rejects or after-hours runs of unofficial materials. This isn't paranoia but was factually proven by researched acid bath take-aparts of rouge samples. Every single one was made of off-spec materials. Sandisk is THE biggest knock-off brand on the planet.
My ATTO's benchmarks on two real Sandisk 16GB class 2 and one Sandisk 32GB class 2 gave virtually identical throughput curves reads and writes.

Mine was retail blister packed, and purchased from Newegg, so I very much trust it to be the genuine article.
As I said, it was a very casual test. Can you refer me to an application to do some more accurate testing?
Freeware ATTO benchmarks very thoroughly and shows where performance sweet spots are (larger files both read and write).
Nice, I'll have to check it out.
Thanks.
Run ATTO on your Sandisk 16GB and post results. It'll be interesting to see how similar and if they are, how the "feel" of speed compares.
I've got Transcend microSD 8GB class 6 and even though ATTO graphs slightly better results, I could never tell difference in use, including copying large video files to card.
Interesting, my benchmark results look nothing like yours.
ATTO shows your card hitting 13 MB/s write speed, where mine are around 4 MB/s? Am I looking at this correctly? It seems your card hits Class 12 (if there were such a thing) specs for some file sizes!
Looks like the microSD reader used is limitation bottle-neck. I've found the Sandisk microSD USB reader okay, but Transcend SD USB reader with microSD
adapter fastest "pipe." SDHC card readers from 1st generations could be dreadfully slow. Also, you want the computer running the test in absolutely "idle" state with nothing else running using up CPU cycles for reliable results.
Also, for benchmarking tests use direct USB port to computer, not from hub or with other USB devices mounted.
For the benchmark, I used a local Japanese brand "Elecom" SD (not MicroSD) to USB card reader (purchased a couple years ago on a business trip), plus a Sandisk SD to Micro SD card adapter (adapter probably 3 years old). So its possible one of those links in the chain is a bottleneck.
I don't have another card reader handy. When I have time I'm going to try to connect the phone via USB (in Disk Drive mode) and see how the benchmark turns out. You know off hand if this will bottleneck the test also?
Redpoint,
Don't know about file transfer speed mounted as mass drive, although I doubt it will run at full I/O card potential.
The Sandisk microSD USB reader can be found on eBay for a few dollars, it's very handy to have.
Definitely sounds like your current readers have the bottle-neck issue all older SDHC readers had compared to latest models.
Also, the microSD>SDHC adapters are just pin-outs without circuitry.
Here's a good program for testing SD cards for capability and authenticity. I recently bought a bogus 32gb micro-SDHC Sandisk card off eBay and this little program confirmed it. No worries, eBay deleted the seller and refunded my money. beware of buying any brand of mem cards off eBay. The place is littered with counterfeits.
The Verizon branded Sandisk 32GB microSD in sealed blister pack is sure bet for authenticity and at decent prices around $100. ALL 32GB microSD cards selling far lower than $100 are FAKES. Demand has dropped real Sandisk's from $200 at launch to $100 range. Lower prices than that will take awhile to settle in.

Was thinking about getting the N10...now not so much

Im currently a tf700 owner. No we have had our issues with the tf700 but for all intents purpose it has served me very well. The keyboard dock is clutch for class note taking and long emailing. Now hearing about the N10 got me excited because i am a huge nexus fan like many of you. However once the design the specs on the N10 came out...i was a little disappointed.
First is the design... I mean WTF seriously plastic again samsung? There is something about having an aluminum body that just make the tf700, ipad and other comparable tablets feel premium. Not to mention warranting a heftier price tag..
Second and MOST IMPORTANT is having no micro sd card slot. This is actually a HUGE issue for alot of people. Now i know alot of you will just say "oh just get the 64 gig versions and you should be fine" or " why do you need even more memory"... but the size is not the problem. The problem for most users is the inability to secure your files in case of a crash or malfunction. When using my tf700, my phone or any mobile device, i always back up all my notes, movies, music and any sensitive documents to the sd card i have mounted in case of a system failure. There isnt a single android device out there ( or any device for that matter) that is not susceptible to a malfunction or crash, including the nexus product ( remember the N7 debacle at the launch...ouch!). On top of the fact that i like to transfer my file easily from one platform to another (desktop to tablet and vice versa, phone to tablet and vice versa...) without the need for whipping out a transfer cable or internet access, it just seems pretty lazy on the part of google and samsung to not include the option. Losing this huge personal security feature alone really turned me off from wanting to purchase.
The last point that really got me disappointed was the screen. Looking at all the comparisons videos online of how the N10 stacks up to the tf700, ipad, Note and N7, most of the reviewers agree that they is very little if not novel difference in the screen in real time use. Most even go as far to say that the battery hit taken by the non significant difference in the screen resolution is a huge turn off for most users.
All in all i wanted to love the new N10 because i am a nexus fan at heart, but there is no way i could justify the purchase with the problems it is already presenting.

The screen is not an issue. $399 for a screen like that plus the most powerful SOC around is a hook, not the deterrent. lol
I prefer plastic, the ipad 3 was too heavy and plastic is definitely not an ISSUE to anyone except the itards and the Samsung haters.
---------- Post added at 11:19 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:14 AM ----------
Let me reiterate, a solid and light plastic construction with no creaks or wobbles even from the toughest abuse(Galaxy S3, Nexus 10) or temperature changes is not an issue.
An issue is like massive screen lift, catching on fire, digitizers sticking out from the shell, overheating etc. You know, things that barely ever happen to products that are made out of this "cheap" plastic Samsung uses. These issues tend to only happen to these "amazingly' solid aluminum or non cheap plastic that Asus uses. lol

Alright fair enough, again name calling and insulting is not tolerated on these boards. How about the sd card issue? And the battery drain issue from the screen resolution? Pretty sure thats a "serious issue" as well...

Most reviews say that the battery life is pretty good. Sure they had to cram in a huge battery like the ipad needed to but that is perfectly fine since it is still light, plastic, and thin. They didn't need to make it fatter than the Note 10.1 like Apple had to make the ipad 3 fatter than the ipad 2. I think the benefits of the ppi in terms of text and marketing is worth the cost,
The micro SD card slot is a negative but I still wouldn't call it an issue. An issue should be used to describe something that is not working as intended by the manufacturer. The plastic construction and lack of micro SD is calculated. you might not agree with the design and design choices but they are not issues.
I say the name calling is slightly justified because the abuse of the word "issue" is a clear signal for a trolling party. In this case, I am guessing that you are not a fan of Samsung and like to troll them. Correct?

No they don't weight the same. I suggest you get your specifications from another website.
From reading the reviews, the battery drain doesn't seem too bad. We will never know for sure until we have some real world testing. Charging through micro usb will be a bit slower.
The sd card is sort of an issue, but I think a usb otg and flash drive/external hdd will suit me well. Also have the option of nas at home that you can download/stream from. No nexus devices have had sd cards so far so if that is really a deal breaker for people I guess it is what it is.
The n10 isn't perfect, but right now I see it as one of the best Android tablets on the market right now.

Alright fair enough, again name calling and insulting is not tolerated on these boards. How about the sd card issue? And the battery drain issue from the screen resolution? Pretty sure thats a "serious issue" as well...
[EDIT:] Just an fyi, the ipad 3 and the N10 weight the same 1.44 pounds...just saying

You should get the specs from google play store and apple official website:
ipad with retina: 662g
nexus 10: 603g
I used 'g' because google play store only shows 'g'

Im currently a tf700 owner. No we have had our issues with the tf700 but for all intents purpose it has served me very well. The keyboard dock is clutch for class note taking and long emailing. Now hearing about the N10 got me excited because i am a huge nexus fan like many of you. However once the design the specs on the N10 came out...i was a little disappointed.

Unfortunately, Google just doesn't want to target your use case. This latest iteration of the tablet UI shows that they are content with a tablet being a large phone. Since Google is primarily targeting media consumption it is not a big deal to waste a good bit of UI real estate on black bars, etc. Likewise, I don't think you'll see a Transformer-like keyboard dock because that is beyond what Google is targeting with the Nexus 10.
I personally don't agree with Google's approach. I want Android/Nexus 10 to be able to have multiple applications on the screen at once like the Windows 8 tablets and have a keyboard dock like Transformers. If I'm going to pay ~$500 for a tablet then it should be more than a phone with a larger screen.
First is the design... I mean WTF seriously plastic again samsung? There is something about having an aluminum body that just make the tf700, ipad and other comparable tablets feel premium. Not to mention warranting a heftier price tag..

I disagree here. Plastic != always bad. I prefer a soft coated hard plastic to a metal back any day. That's assuming the plastic isn't cheap flexible junk. The metal on the Transformers doesn't really add any real protection, it scratches way too easily, and its generally heavier. In other words, if the plastic is done well then it can be better than a metal backing.
From what I've seen most people enjoy the Nexus 7's plastic and from early reviews people seem to like the Nexus 10's as well.

I agree here, but again, Google simply isn't targeting your use case. In their eyes, the Nexus 10 is a dumb device that acts as a portal to media and if you do view or edit a document then it will be in the cloud.

From what I've seen the screen looks to be pretty great. I'm not sure why you think it would be that much better than the TF700's which already has one of the best screens available. Compared to the TF101 and most other previous Android tablets the Nexus 10 will look phenomenal.
I'm also not sure why you think the Nexus 10's screen will be such a large battery drain compared to the TF700. In reality, we have no idea which screen will be more power hungry. Yes, the Nexus 10 has more pixels than the TF700 but pushing a few extra pixels is nothing compared to backlight power drain. While one could argue that the Nexus 10 having more pixels than the TF700 will require more computational resources. However, the GPU and CPU in the Nexus 10 should be slightly more efficient than Tegra 3 making it mostly a wash. In terms of the backlights, I have no idea which requires more power and I don't think the reviewers do either.
Let's get technical. Definition class!
issues
1an important topic or problem for debate or discussion: the issue of racism raising awareness of environmental issues
(issues) personal problems or difficulties: emotions and intimacy issues that were largely dealt with through alcohol I like him, though I have some issues with the guy
(issues) problems or difficulties, especially with a service or facility: a small number of users are experiencing connectivity issues
Does a plastic construction really fall under a problem? No. More like a solution to a lighter and more heat resistant product. It would be an issue if the construction affected durability or how well the product operates but I highly doubt that.
Is the lack of a micro SD card an issue? I might give him that one if I was really feeling generous but it's a tough sell. Maybe in the right context. If I had to transfer 16.5 gb of files to another system and the Nexus 10 was designed for that specific task then that would be an issue because it wasn't designed with enough memory to accomplish that specific task. However, I wouldn't call the lack of a micro SD card slot an issue or a problem because it was designed that way and manufactured to be that way, it is not a defect,
An issue would be closer to a problem or a defect rather than something that was just was not included on purpose.
Before this becomes even more of a flamefest, I am going to close it.
@pierrekid, I am happy that you are staying with your current tablet and wish you all the best. It is too bad that the N10 specs don't fit your ideal tablet thoughts. Good luck in your future and if you do decide to get an N10, you know where we are.

[Q] Sandisk Ultra USB2.0/Micro Flash Drive with N6?

I was all set to order a Meenova Dash Micro and 32/64GB MicroSD card to use with my N6 on the go. I don't thinkI will fill up my 32GB phone unless I purposely try to but I would like to keep something with me to use for the purposes of Nandroid backups and to hold Music and HD video content but not have it be ON the phone. Also a folder with all the ROM, Kernel, Modem files etc would be nice too.
Anyway I was all set to order the items I needed when I found this:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sandisk-ultra-dual-64gb-usb-2-0-micro-usb-flash-drive-black/3814107.p?id=1219093905210&skuId=3814107
Has anyone use one? Looks like its going to be bigger but I didn't intend to use the Meenova while It was plugged into the phone and I would be paranoid about breaking the Micro USB port on my phone. Hell, I don't like to use my phone while it's plugged in even.
As the only time I will most-likely use something like this is for a quick file transfer, backup or listening to music while the phone is say sitting on a table I guess the size isn't super important. So if anyone has used one on the N6, how are the transfer speeds? Build quality of the flash drive etc.
I know the Meenova got rave reviews so should I still with that or get the Sandisk USB/Micro drive? The big thing I like about the Sandisk is no needed adaptors or cables to do file transfers. I can pop it into my MacBook Pro or Windows desktop, copy to it via standard USB port and then pop it into my N6 without having to go find missing part or a cable.
Thoughts? Suggestions? The reason I wanted the Meenova Dash Micro was due to its small size which is still very appealing. My local Best Buy has the Sandisk 32GB for $17.99 and the 64GB for $29.99, I could pick one up when I drive by afterwork today but with the Meenova I have to order it and then still get a 32GB or 64GB MicroSD card which the two together will cost more.
Thanks!
I had that exact one and I hated it. Its cheaply made and felt like it would break. I bought it on amazon and returned it. I bought a corsair one instead and its far superior. It has a USB 3.0(PC side) and micro usb (phone side) and is all metal. Here's a link to it

That Corsair definitely "look" higher quality even just from the pictures. I guess the the reason I was looking at the Sandisk was because it's in-stock at my local Best Buy at $17.99 for the 32GB or $29.99 for the 64GB. The Corsair Flash Voyager GO is almost twice the price. I do like the fact that the Corsair Flash Voyager GO is metal though.
I may just go with my original plans to get the Meenova if no one has any positive things to say about the Sandisk.
Now that you mention it, I've got a few Sandisk 4, 8, 16 and 32GB flash drives and they are very plasticy and I've broken a couple too. Although that is because I've had them sticking out of my MacBook Pro when I was using it on my lap or moving it and I hit one on something so I suppose in that case anything could break. Better then Sandisk flash drive though and not the MacBook Pro USB port!

I got my 32gb for 14.99 last week so just watch the price on it. I've broken some sandisk ones as well and I prefer metal because its on my keyring. The read and wrote speed is also faster than my sandisk was.

It looks nice, I'm happy as long as it made well and I can't use it with my case on my phone. I keep all of my TWRP backups on there. I have a 64gb Nexus but I don't like to waste 12gb on my phone for 3 backups.
Here's a picture of mine next to my Motorola Keylink for a size comparison. (I'm at school so don't mind the dirty table here in the IST bldg)
I know the OP doesn't want to use a cable but since the dawn of time I've used an OTG cable: http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-...8&qid=1418397278&sr=8-1&keywords=OTG+microusb
I always found it far more adaptable to my situation. Also you can get a larger choice of high quality drives at a lower price.
$5 and whatever memory stick you have/find/borrow/buy. Too simple.
Ok thanks for the suggestion guys!

I have the same adapter and it works well. I use it for my Nexus Player. It has plastic that covers/protectors the two ends while shipping and it makes it look scratched until you remove it. Its a good adapter if you don't mind using one.

i cant see the link for some reason but are you speaking about the sandisk that has a micro usb on one side and a full size usb on the other with a sliding cover to cover the ports?
if so i have the 64gb version and contrary to others i have used it across the nex9 and nex6 and htc one max.
i have had zero issues with the gadget and recommend it if you are use to sandisk. people have their own opinions on everything and ones mileage will vary, but i disagree that its cheap and prone to break. one may LOSE it (its tiny) before they break it, just depends on how you handle such products.
i love it, have used it for months and recommend it.

My cover broke in less than a week which is partly why it went back to amazon. It also was annoying to use with a case without a OTG cable. I didn't abuse it, in fact it sat on my desk when I wasn't using it. I could've had a defective one but it didn't feel sturdy at all which later proved correct when the cap broke. My USB (fill sized end) was angled weird too but again I think I could have had a bad unit.
I have the 32gb sandisk dual drive for my moto g. It is a great product for its price. I can safely suggest it to anyone who considers to buy it.

I think you should go for the Kingston micro-duo otg pendrive usb 3.0 .It's very small and made of metal and the read and write speed is also quite fast.
Has anyone tried plugging the dual port sticks into the phone and computer at the same time?

That would be difficult because the nexus port is slightly angled so it would require some work.

Z Ultra vs. Nexus 6?

Now that a BNIB Nexus 6 (not 6p) is $300, I am getting the itch to swap my XZU for one. The N6 has a slightly faster processor, thinner bezels, higher screen resolution, more RAM, better camera (with flash), bigger battery, and oleophobic gorilla glass 3 instead of a plastic screen protector with non-oleophobic glass underneath. But I love my unique XZU with its bigger (non AMOLED) screen, thinner body, SD card slot, and water resistance.
Am I crazy to switch, or is the N6 a worthy successor at its current price? I'm guessing it'd cost around $100 to switch (sell the XZU for $200ish).

I wouldn't make such a switch (and I have tried the N6). It is a better idea to keep the Ultra until new Snapdragon 820 based devices with bigger screens are out.
To me, the smaller display and limited storage are the key deal breakers and despite the benefits of higher screen resolution, I haven't been happy with the color reproduction on some N6s I have been trying.
From my point of view, there are no device which can fully replace the Ultra just yet. There are devices that better some parameters (such as higher display resolution and a better camera) but it usually falls back on areas such as display size or developer support and so forth.
What I would recommend is rather to keep the Ultra and see if Sony introduces a Z5 Tablet Compact, which could work as a direct replacement (I have decided to get an 8 inch device as a replacement when something with Snapdragon 820, 4 GB RAM, 2K or 4K display etc is in the market).
After I saw the nasty screen burn, I'dstay away from AMOLED.

Also, you know how most smokers' teeth go from white to yellow after some years? Yup, same with AMOLED. Sure, it looks pretty, but that beauty doesn't last.
Dat goddamn AMOLED. Dim and red-tinted as hell. You wouldn't want that. Even as a Nexus fan I deem it my most disliked Nexus phone.

If i had to buy a new phone today i would def buy a nexus 6 for $300. Fortunately i dont though, and i am quite happy with my nearly 2 year old 6806. Until it dies, is stolen, is broken or there is a REAL replacement for it, it reamins with me on the daily!

I already did the switch. Ill write another post about this.
Im getting the 64 GB version Nexus 6. Cant wait to try it out. Its the only good 6 coll phablet out there.
Currently I use Z Ultra as LTE tablet on mobile broadband ($10/5GB) and it works.
Unfortunately, it's impossible to find comparable 7" tablet with decent spec.
I am recently own both of them.
The next phone in my plan is Moto X Style.
(Until the customROMs up and Price down.)
I personally think updating from SD 800 to SD 805 is very incremental in nature(benchmark scores support this idea) I'm waiting for z5 ultra or some other phablet with snapdragon 820 and quadHD screen and 4Gb of RAM. I will wait until its a year old and then I will buy that phone. I will make sure that there are a lot of developers for that phone in XDA before buying ?. My phone hits 39k in antutu, if SD 820 hits 75k it will truly be an upgrade.

Got a Nexus 6 now. Rooted it, installed CM12.
A few points:
1. Installing custom roms and Bootloader unlocking is easier than in Z ultra.
2 Gorilla Glass feels smooth, amoled is really great.
3 Camera on Nexus 6 is great. However, its better in stock rom than in CM12.
4. Very smooth. No stutters at all.
Well I currently own a Z Ultra. And recently bought a Nexus 6. I must say its a real pleasure to use the Nexus 6.. Minus the screen size, it is superior in every way.. The speaker is fantastic, developer support is there and still growing, screen with correct calibration u can achieve IPS colour quality, no yellowish/pinkish tint. Camera miles better. Battery a little better. A little better processing power.
Dun get me wrong, I love the Z Ultra, its a absolutely beautiful device and I am definitely going to keep it. But for me I could never really get used to it as a phone. Its simply too big... Development is slowing down as well. Speaker is really a joke.
The lack of a micro SDHC card slot and smaller screen killed the older nexus 6 for me.
The only real negative for me about the XZU is the speaker. Lack of flash is minor issue. After far no complaints.
If there's a Z5 ultra, I'll buy it if it's faster with more RAM and better battery life, and keeps the magnetic charge connector or replaces it with Qi, and keeps the card slot, has decent speakers and new better camera with flash.

It will definitely have a faster CPU, which will be the S820. It will probably have 3-4GB of RAM, battery probably around 3500mAh, no magnetic charging connector, and no Qi. What makes me say these things?
The first 820-devices will hit the market in Q1 2016, so it will most certainly have it too. The Z5 has 3GB of RAM, so it'll probably have 3GB, unless they bump it up to 4, but Sony has never been the OEM who throws a lot of RAM into their devices, like Samsung. So I'll say 3GB, but maybe 4.
The magnetic charger is gone from the Z3+, Z5 and Z5C (Z1, Z2, Z3 had it), so it looks like they're done with the magnetic connector, and it doesn't exist a single Sony product with Qi, or any other wireless charging, so I'd say that that's also a no-go.
But all we can do now is to speculate, so yeah, who knows.
yeah, I know wireless charging is unlikely. I can't understand why Sony didn't adopt it to replace the mag charge coupler. However, one problem with the mag coupler is that if you use a cable rather than a dock, you can attach it the wrong way round, which is down to stupidity plain and simple!

Yup, I managed to plug it in the wrong way into the dock ones and I almost screamed. Nothing was damaged though, but I know a couple of people around here haven't been that lucky. The most annoying thing with a regular USB cable is the plugging, especially when when there's a flap there too. Let's hope there is a Z Ultra 5, or something though. Would love to have it with a better camera and smaller bezels.
To clarify, I meant it's a stupid design, not stupid people doing it. I only connected mine once the other way accidentally for a split second and the phone instantly turned off, luckily not damaged.

Haha, yeah I got that. It's just too easy to connect it the wrong way, and once that happens.. well.. bad things might happen, well, bad thing WILL happen. I had the same experience as you. Connected it wrong for a split second, pulled it off and what I got was a blinking red LED above the screen, rebooted and it was all fine again. Crappy design? Very. But it's more annoying to open the USB flap and connect the charger every night, in my opinion.
