Equal to the size of your hand scaled to 1-10.

I ain't going any bigger from now on!!

But you can text easily tho right?
All I want is to be able to text as quickly via the messengers and all as I can currently on my Ray(a mere 3.3 inches :/).
Does the swiping help?
You can easily text with one hand, yes. I might only send 50 texts a month so someone with more "practice" should have an easier go of it.

Not Z2 User but XZU user but if i ever gone back to a smaller handset, that would be 10 out of 10 b^_^d or the worst, 8 out of 10 i guess.. the point is, you will be adapted to the handset eventually, no need to fret about the size..
Using the Xperia Z1 Compact and Samsung S3 as reference points, I would rate one-hand usability of the Z1 Compact as 10, the S3 as an 8 and the Z2 as a 6 or 7.
However, there are ways to make it easier to use the Z2 with one hand. If you have Nova Launcher installed for instance, you can swipe downwards anywhere on the homescreen to pull down the notification bar; no need to reach all the way to the top. And if you install the Touchpal keyboard app, the app allows you to shrink the keyboard to one side of the screen for enhanced one-handed usage.

The stock Sony keyboard allows for a shrinking as well. I'm actually very impressed with the stock keyboard....I put it on par with SwiftKey, the predictive text is excellent.
By comparison for example....
S3 8
HTC One M7 8
Nexus 5 8 or 9
Z2 6
It's the added few mm of width that do me in....I don't have small hands at all and I ever feel on the verge of dropping it trying to reach around one handed. Having said that, I have quickly adapted to use two hands for things I used to use one. I have no trouble texting with one hand.

I'll be upgrading from a Xperia Ray, which is only 3.3"
But yes, I tried Z1 in a store and I found it very easily usable with one hand(seems like I have big hands in such case ) , the only issue I had was reaching the notification bar as you mentioned. Its not like I had to use second hand to reach it but I had to do hand aerobics to reach up there, so I was still able to pull it down using only my right hand. Z2 is almost the same size as Z1.
And yup its true about the Nova launcher, I use it even on my Ray, the gestures feature is just awesome!
Talking of touchpal, I'm sure Z2 keyboard has one hand mode too, because I tried Z1 and it had the "one hand mode" where it shrinks the keyboard to a side as you mentioned.
I'm trying to get use to the size of this thing I've had it just about a week I'm really hoping I get use to it I really like the camera and screen and it was not cheap...I still have my z1 compact that I'm really starting to miss

I was in the same boat with my nexus 5. It wasn't until I sold it that the z2 started to feel smaller. If you love the z2 otherwise, get rid of the Z1. As long as you have a side by side to compare to your mind won't let it go.

am about to buy a new phone and am confused between samsung galaxy s ii htc one s and xperia s
and what's better htc sense 4 .touchwiz 4 or sony UI(idk wut it's called)?
TBh it is about personal preferrence. Th one s so far has no reviews as its only just been announced, the sgs2 has been on the market nearly a year so you should know about that.
So far everyone who has the SXS (sony xperia s) has positive views overall about the one.
for me the most important things are
more than 16gb memory availble on the phone directly (not via cloud etc)
good battery life
good audio quality in headphones
good loud speaker
the ability to take pics when i am in a phone call or when the battery is under 15% (a thing which samsung phones do not let you do) htc and sony do though.
and the SXS meets all of these, so thats why I have ordered one and cannot wait for it to arrive.
I prefer sony's UI and HTC sense over touch wiz
it also depends on how desperate you are for a new phone i mean you could wait for the one s to come out which is about another month ad try the handsets for yourself but from reviews i have read and user experiences you can't go wrong with the SXS and plus it is quite cheap aswell.

Exactly right. They are easy to find but it seems they react after you move your finger away, not as you touch them.
They are annoying at first, but they are easy to get used to.
the sony xperia s is most beautiful than SGS2 and one x。
sexiest looking phone ever, so yes!
guys who bought the phone don't you feel like it's a little thick?
and how is battery life? multitaksing and do you feel any lag while opening more than one app??
and i see that my galaxy s is 2mm wider than SXS is it hard to type in portrait mode?
P.S i got pretty thick finger

I do not have mine yet still waiting or it to be delivered but I have seen a dummy model of it in my local phones 4 u and i have spent a while comparing its size to the arc s dummy, galaxy s 2 dummy, droid razr dummy, htc sensation xe dummy and tbh the phone isnt that big for me the droid razr is horrid its very thin yes but is so tall and wide and it only has a 4.3 inch screen I mean it doesnt need to be that big for a 4.3inch screen.
the SXS just isnt that big imo and I mean no one really complains the the sensation/sensation xe is like 11+mm thick which is thicker than the 10.6mm SXS.

I have to say the touch buttons are a bit difficult to get use to. I mean not big deal but it can bother people. Sound quality using headphones good. I like beats audio. And I think beats audio has a bit more punch on mid and highs. The xperia s has plenty of bass ...camera its amazing. The one x and s comes with great cameras too. Other than that I think its a good phone

Hello,
I just want to get the opinions of all xperia users who would like to take the time to answer my question.
I currently have a samsung galaxy note and i stumbled across the xperia s via the smartwatcha and smart wireless headset pro (i have this ocd-ish problem where all of my gadgets need to have one brand primarily) and i was wondering what are the community's take on the phone?
I'll primarily be using it as a secondary phone if not become primarily as soon as i get tired of lugging my big ass Galaxy Note around.
There is just something alluring about its sharp minimalistic style not to mention having a hd bravia tv in the palm of my hand.
Anyways, back to my question: what are your general opinions of the phone? Good or bad i'd like to hear them all.
Its a good phone, I love the screen and the processor seems fast enough. My gripes with it are, I am not sure about the button placement. Also I am not a fan of the usb flap cover. The light bar is awesomeness though.
It's awesome. That's all.

There's a few more threads about people on the fence with this phone around here somewhere. I imagine it may feel tiny though after lugging around a note .

i had sgs2

worth it ? yep
I came from a note as well although mine died
I love this phone, my only gripe is the lack of developers here on xda, most devs seem to goto Samsung or HTC. I actually don't know if that's a good or bad thing because Sony's UI is fantastic and so is the whole experience so rooting the phone isn't really worth it at this stage for me, whereas with the note I was flashing every other day and that wasn't necessarily a good thing.
I miss the big screen of the note but I sure don't miss the SAMOLED display and the bad placement of those capacitive buttons and also the power button. The other real bad thing I noticed when I came to the xperia was how badly the note handled itself under sunlight I could never make out what was displayed and had to use my other hand as shade which didn't improve it much and also adding to the already difficult handling. With the Sony there is zero problems under sunlight I was amazed. I've held the Sony directly in sunlight and still can see the screen at around 80% vision comparing to the notes 10% vision.
I paid 800AUD for the note in November and I just paid 420AUD for the xperia s just after they got released and personally it outperforms it in software and hardware.
Sony feels expensive in the hands yet its cheap, Samsung feels cheap yet its expensive.
Oh yeh one other thing I really hate is the flap covers for the USB I could understand if the phone lasted a week without charge but when you charge everyday its pointless and frustrating.

The Xperia S is a new phone, just give it some time and more devs will come to make roms and add-ons Most of them are just waiting for the ICS update I think
But the phone is really great Also love the fact Sony will give us 4.0.4 probably instead of 4.0.3 like most devices
Considering XperiaS to be my first dual core smartphone, it does its job pretty well. Superfast processing, loads of RAM,great camera on a phone.. Unlocked Bootloader on mine.. And ICS not that far away.. What more would you want?

It works just as any auto-adjust, it just isn't as drastic when it adjusts ( more adjusts in phases than the 'low light > omg my eyes!'). It adjusts how it should at night, and outside (even in the sun) it is the most visible and clear I have ever seen in a touchscreen phone, the clarity is really impressive.
I don't know why, but I guess since most people use the auto setting, they removed it? I dunno, but you can still disable it with a widget anyways, so it doesn't really matter

I'm asking purely for discussion because I'm interested in what such a community has to say about it. The LG G2 is a damn beast phone and I'm super curious to hear, from a dev's perspective, just how much more potential the G2 has left in it to be that more amazing.
Thoughts?

Fixes wise, maybe the pulsating screen at lower brightness and the camera's tendency to blow out whites.
Features wise Im actually pretty impressed by stock, but am spoiled by a few things available on ROMs for my Gnex:
custom LED colors for every app on the phone
transparent status bars all around
lock screen targets
nav bar button modifications (as many buttons as you want, any action available in the phone, etc)
color calibration
underclocking
stock Android browser (although I hear the AT&T variant has this, I wonder if it can be exported from there and loaded onto the VZW variant that I have)
Root tethering working.
islands nstreme
I'm interested in the audio playback capabilities. The G2 can output 24/192 but only with certain audio files. At least from what I've read. I wonder if there is a way for it to dismiss what type of audio file is playing and automatically up-sample all audio. Unless I'm wrong about it. Listening to Google Music, I'm not sure I'm getting higher audio playback.
Just a thought.

Quick Launch Apps via Quick Window
If you could use the stock quick launch camera (hold down vol. down for 3 seconds) while keeping the quick window case closed (using the window as a viewfinder). That would make it better. Same for any app; you could set one of the buttons to pull up your calendar agenda, and quickly scan it without actually turning the phone on.
The back...oh goodness, that horrible back surface.
Like a previous poster said, that random dimming/brightening backlight bug is pretty annoying.
I'd also like to see capacitive buttons instead of the on-screen ones. They get in the way, especially in games. The bezel size is exactly the same as the Note 2, so there was room. And the N2 gives you the option to have them off all the time, so all you see is screen.

Everyone is different. The cleaner/simpler the UI, the better it is for me. I don't need all these features that seem to be focused on business/work. My phone is mainly used to keep in touch/updated with friends via text, calls, emails and social media. Anything that requires serious office work or organization.. I pull out my Surface Pro. It's with me at all times during business hours. I also don't care about pics.. I have a DSLR for that and I've never been disappointed with any of my phones pictures. I mostly upload them to Facebook and Instagram anyways. The main thing i want about G2 is DAT BATTERY LIFE I'm a heavy user... The longer battery life the better.
I'm on Sprint so I don't have a G2 yet, but I'm decided on getting it. The first thing I'm going to do is hide the onscreen buttons. Then start researching clean/minimal ROMs.

While the Sony Xperia Z Ultra does have a gorgeous size to it with nice specs to back it up, I have a couple big problems with it. Firstly, it doesn't appear to have a CDMA version, so I can't use it on the Verizon network. Second, the speaker configuration is pretty crappy, otherwise I would have most likely just went with the Note 3. I've never been a fan of Sony/Ericsson phones and doubt I'd go back to them again. HTC has been one of my favorites since back in the days of Windows Mobile. The majority of my favorite phones came from HTC and I'm honestly glad that I'm back.

I came from the DNA and I love the Max's size. I had a few issues when I went from the Evo 4GLTE to the DNA, mostly because that was the point where I couldn't use only one hand to operate it. I quickly got over it but for some people that may be a deal breaker. When I first got the max I was concerned it wouldn't fit in my pockets especially jeans but even with the tighest pair it only peeks out a little bit. I think 6.5" is going to be my personal limit and I have a feeling the Max 2 is going to be about that size. no regrets.

I've just exchanged the Galaxy Note 3 N9005 for the Xperia Z Ultra. Plus I've received a Power Cover for it. I couldn't be any happier, I got quite lucky the guy only wanted to exchange the phones. I don't really care about the camera being less great and without flash as I didn't even use it that much on my Note 3.
The screen on the Xperia Z is absolutely GORGEOUS. The phone really is big and I'm sure I'll get used to it pretty soon. So basically, I'm very happy that I've exchanged my Note 3 for this gorgeous bad boy.
Also guys, if you want a nicer lockscreen, download "LG Optimus Lockscreen" from the Google Play store and disable ads via Ad blocking application, which you can also get on the Google Play Store. This baby got even nicer with that lockscreen. :victory:

Gorgeous Bad Boy it is!!
Note 3 is a tad bit better performer with 3 GB RAM. But XZU is much better looking and futuristic.

It does have 3GB ram, but that did not stop me from the need to exchange to Z Ultra. The design is also alot better than the Note 3. I like the more "glassy" look the XZU has, the Note 3 had a plastic feel to it. Even the "leather" back had a plastic feel. The only thing I don't like that much on the XZU is the fact that all the fingerprints are visible, but that's not going to bother me also.
Note 3 might have more RAM but ZU's performance in gaming is actually better thanks to some good optimisation

Indeed and less RAM needed by the system itself too.
i do miss Samsung's camera though... Sony should work on optimizing that too....
The sensor put on ZU is just not that good. It's basically just an additional feature and it's not supposed to have a camera. Flash is absent remember? But yes, Sony should improve camera software to tackle the smudges in the photos
