[Q] Samsung galaxy young help with Lag - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Newbie needs some help, got a samsung galaxy young this model.
smartphone/GT-S6310ZWTTL Australia Telstra model
Not sure if it differs to other models, seems there maybe two youngs about. anyhow i like this phone mostly because of size and having a hard home button. But what is annoying is when i type a text message using 3x4 keyboard there is a horrible wait/lag for the curser to move on up. It takes forever compared to other phones, I tried using textra App sms app and no good, since that works well on another phone friend has Hauwiee 210y Pro. Is there any way i can speed this typing experience up, tried cache clear to no go...I'm a fast type so this is very frustrating. . Are all samsung phones like this, or just ones with with a Low Ram?...or is it the phone itself?...Should i put a Custom Rom on it, if so what one...Cheers :good:

You could try (I would reccommend) the Custom ROM. You need to have your device rooted for this!
NB! Google is your friend

Any other way besides a rom?, how often do samsung do updates

Try restoring the phone and disable unwanted apps.

My SG2 constantly freezes with 'the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped'

I have been using Android phones for three years.
My current phone is the GT-19100, Android version 4.0.3, baseband version 19100XXLPX Kernel version 3.0.15-19100JPLPF-CL644992 [email protected]#3 THE BUILD NUMBER IS IML74K.JPLPF
I hope that is all the model information needed. I am afraid i can't answer the questions....
- What rom you are using? -and- What kernel are you using?
- Have you flashed any mods/scripts/themes?
- Have you changed DPI? If yes, to what?
Because I dont understand them. I am no geek and just expect to turn a phone on use it and then off.
Now for my problem:
This problem seemed to start, or certainly got worse, after doing the update to ICS about 4 weeks ago. Now no process can be done smoothly on my phone without a temporary freeze and the phrase, 'Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped' appearing and the screen freezing until I press OK.
I have trawled this site and others to find a solution and although I see it probably has something to do with google syncronisation I don't understand the solutions as explained. I have a very low level, functional, understanding of my phone and no real knowledge of its OpSys. I certainly DONT want to Root it. Sounds scary.
Simple 123 step guide to a solution in none geekish language would be enormously helpful.
Hi,its as simple as this
1.go back to gb
2.stay where you are
3.root the phone
I would say that my phone and my wifes worked better on gb.
Unfortunately you cant do all that much if you arent rooted.

You may try wipe cache / factory reset. Usually helps with problems caused by upgrade from GB to ICS.

After update from gingerbread to ICS the following steps are very important:
1. Factory reset your phone (if you have already done this once, you can skip this step)
2. Open settings, go to apps, then all applications tab.
3. force stop then disable every system app you don't use.
If you are not sure about any of them, ask me, I will guide you.
* don't disable message app, contacts and market.
4. Open market, now called Google play, update all your apps.
This step is necessary to ensure proper app compatibility.
Good luck

Last time you updated your ROM, did you access Recovery Mode and do a Full Wipe by "Clear Data/Factory Reset > Wipe Cache > Reboot"
Regardless of what your told or what you read.. you should do this for every update or flash.. whether its 236 to 403 or even 404 to 404 bug fixes.. its the only way to be sure.. then install/update your apps again from Market.
Try the above first, Make sure you back up all your data first.. SMS, Call Logs, Photos.. but if the above doesnt work.. Ide go back to GB and start smiling again .
My 2 cents ....
Like those here, I got sucked into the newer is better trap and settled for 404 because I just got used to it, but, like you, I was having crashes and issues to the point of annoyance so Ive recently went back to 236 GB from LPT and what a difference, faster, more responsive, slicker, screen is brighter on 20% than it is on 40% under ICS and battery lasts an extra 4 - 6 hours. Im currently on XWLA4 and its great.
But the worst of it all for me, under ICS, when you access Task Manager under TouchWiz or Go Launcher, its running about 25 apps in the background that you dont even know about or have ever used.. whereas, GB runs about 12, talk about battery drain.
Ive flashed about 6 ICS builds and none of them have been as goiod as GB, so IMO, I think Samsung just botched up a workable ICS, so we S2 users wouldnt feel left out when the S3 arrived, but IMO its one of the most buggy, bloat filled messy OS's I ever used, I reckon thats why theres dozens of Custom ROMs built on ICS, because the default Stock ones are a a mess and uncle Sammy cant be bothered to fix it because the S2 is obselete now, samsung only have eyes for the S3 now..
Im not holding my breath for a decent working JB either. Like all devs.. once they move on, thats it.. but for me, my next phone will be an HTC.
Anyway, Theres tons of posts on XDA to help you go back to GB or clear the data through Recovery,
Good luck.
Jokesy
Have gone through my Apps as suggested disabling all the programme I do not use - a bit of guess work as so many are not ones I recognise. Now when i try to use google play store - nothing happens.......I must have disabled something vital. I suppose I need to start going back through the applications and enabling them until the google play store works?
OK been through and started enabling disabled apps and slowly functionality is coming back. As yet not nasty message telling me "the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped". Will continue and report back.
As for rooting and going back to GB seems to me to be something Samsung should not be expecting its customers to do. Why can't the phone work as promised on sale?
Thanks for all those who have given advice - just not clear to me what the advantages of rooting a phone are?

Lemme try to put this as simple as possible (I'm a layman too )
When you purchase an android smartphone, no matter what brand, the company puts certain restrictions to its functionality. They restrict the hardware capabilities and stuff in a bunch of bloatware apps that most of us find useless. These bloatware apps can also slow down our phones. So basically if you take a broad look at the scenario, the company restricts (owns) our phones even after we've paid top dollar for them.
Now coming to the pros of rooting.
1. You become the master of your phone. As soon as you root you get "Super User" access. ( just the term makes you feel a lil more special )
2. You can remove all the bloatware that comes pre installed with your phone.
3. You can use a custom ROM and kernel that are for certain much more efficient than the stock ROM and kernel.
4. You get to decide how your hardware should work- overclock the CPU to squeeze out more performance from the beast or underclock it so that the battery lasts longer.
So that should give you a brief idea on why you should root.
I too had the same problem you are facing right now when I moved from GB to ICS. Cursed Samsung in so many tongues! I then rooted my phone, put in a custom ROM and kernel and I've been a happy man since. I too was apprehensive about rooting but now I'm certain whatever phone I buy next, its gonna be rooted as soon as its outta the box

Thanks a lot for the more simple explanation. I haven't gone down the rooted toot as yet but am now sorely tempted. In fact since following Jessie adice the freezing has stopped. I already use two batteries which get me through the average day of use........
When one 'roots' do you re-instal ICS and get the same access to stuff like Swype?

I delete data and cache in TB and it helps, but my problem was in "com.process.android.acore" after restoring contacts from 4.1.1 to 4.0.4.

Rooting doesn't reinstall ICS, rooting just gives you the privilege to install a custom ICS ROM thereby replacing your stock ICS ROM. I don't know if all ICS ROMs support stuff like Swype but most do. Even if it doesn't come bundled with the ROM you can just download and install the app.
If you are looking for a ICS ROM with most of the Samsung apps like Email, Social Hub, Swype etc all bundled with ROM then you could try out the ROM that I'm using right now ( refer to my signature). It's basically the stock ROM look and feel with even most of the Samsung apps present minus the bloatware.

I didn't even bother with Kies. I was rooted and was pretty sure that Kies would not work until returning to stock.
went into the development section and to the Odin stock JB thread. someone had posted video on youtube and I watched it once.
got all necessary downloads and went through step by step. it seemed as if it hung at blue and white att ball, but left it plugged into Odin until it fully booted. out of the blue "YATZEE".
always a good idea, go slow and follow directions to the tee.
I always get nervous in the service, but this was pretty easy.

Pop-up note works for me, just hold down the S-Pen's button as you double tap the screen.
Despite what nearly every news outlet claims, multiview isn't in this release. Although according to Samsung's press release, the floating window support for videos and the browser made it in. I've gotten the floating video to work, but I can't figure out how to get the browser to float. I don't see an option for that anywhere.
The only other thing that isn't working for me is Samsung's stock image gallery. It crashes the phone, even after wiping EVERYTHING, and doing a re-flash. While I would have liked to at least test it, I just deleted it and I'm using QuickPic as a replacement.

Kinda a lot. I've deleted over 200 MB of bloat from /system and most things are pretty laggy. Where's Project Butter?! Other than the stability, it doesn't feel any faster or better than the existing AOSP JB releases to me. But strangely, some things like window animations and menus fading out are incredibly smooth. But as soon as I put my finger on the display, everything gets laggy.
But at least my GPS works properly. :| It didn't in any ICS ROM, including stock.
The new jellybean update from AT&T does not lag for me. People say it does but first, flash rom, factory reset, root, remove bloat, download setcpu, min 192 max 1.5. Does not lag one bit for me. :silly::silly:
Same experience as ^^^^. Remember friends, freeze a bloatware app, then use your phone for a while, and if there's no problems, delete.
Some apps you might be tempted to delete can bork your system. Proceed with care.
Sorry for my stupid question. Could you teal with apps did you freeze? I dont want stop something that might brick my phone

I froze every at&t app and google stuff I don't use like search and place. Don't mess with email and messaging.
If you're going to experiment, do you know how to make a nandroid backup? Its your insurance policy.
And you won't ever brick doing this. The worst thing is your phone will give error messages and won't function.
Just restore your nandroid.

Jellybean upgrade - or not??
Maybe I jumped the gun upgrading to stock Jellybean because I miss the following features
1) Three day calendar - maybe I messed something up but I don't see a way to get it back. Currently using weekly list view but its not the same. Also the "Today" widget only shows today the ICS one would show about 24 hours of items so usually would show what is going on tomorrow as well.
2) I am having S-pen issues. I have a collection of different Stylus pens and I have been using one from Samsung Electronics Slate PC because it had a nice size, shape, and an ERASER. The eraser no longer works in S-note. Also one of my favorite time wasters, Cubistry, the spen no longer registers (stock or Slate).
3) I'm getting old and fine print is getting harder to see. On the ICS Swipe keyboard, the long press characters were almost the same size as the regular characters. I'll have to look for another keyboard.
Full blown multi-veiw was also not included but I don't know if I would use it much.
We did get Google Now which I don't use that much & Polaris Office 4.0 that I use alot - the new office can edit text files (ICS could view them but not save text files).
Lol jumped the gun..
It's software if you don't like it just go back abs wait for custom Roms built on this firmware

Different gingerbread 2.3.6 after flashing

Hello. I have that problem, I bricked my 5830i yesterday, after trying to expand internal memory. I flashed it with stock gingerbread. Two of my friends have the same phone, and my graphics were different than teirs, when I bought it. For example, my unlock screen was with Lock icon, while theirs was only swiping the lock screen away. Another difference was the answer for incoming calls. Mine was with some circles, which could be swiped in many directions, while the circle expands, while the graphics of the other two phones were more medieval Now it's gone. I whant to ask if someone know how to get it back? Also, main difference in my phone is in the Phone info there is something refering to S5830iXXLA2, which was S5830iXXLA4 before i flash it with the new ROM. Anyone knows what to do to get my cool graphics back? I know it's stupid, but it was in some way cool. Thanks in advance!

[Q] Karbonn Smart A2+

As you can see, I'm new to this forum. I apologize if I have posted in the wrong forum. Please do move it to the correct one kindly.
I've bought a Karbonn Smart A2+, and I've run into some issues. The middle physical button of the three on the bottom of the phone seems to be malfunctioning. It sends me back to the homescreen every few seconds, like it's been repeatedly spammed down even if I'm not holding it down. I'd like to inquire if there's any way I can turn this button off? Or even better, is there any fix for this?
The phone arrived and when I unboxed it, it did this. I went out to a local phone salesman who also undertakes repair, but the phone worked perfect en route when I reached there too (I looked like an idiot trying to explain whats wrong with my phone).
I thought it had fixed itself, so I went back home and it started malfunctioning again. I tried everything: removing and replacing sim and sd card, wiping the battery and the phone, giving it a nice hot oil massage. Nothing seems to help.
I'd also like to inquire about the process to root this device, if possible. I'd also like to know the benefits of a rooted Android as opposed to a non-rooted one.
Thanks in advance!
No, it doesn't. Also, it seems to happen randomly, sometimes working perfect and most of the time its a pain in my ass.
No, its not overcharged nor is it plugged into my pc.
Oh that's terrible... My phone fixed itself, now it only does this when I try to play a game like subway surfers. Is there any way I can disable the button for some apps?
Try Uninstalling apps
Due to Low Memory, maybe its a Pain to use dis device... try uninstalling some useless apps, ... try rooting it with FRAMAROOT v1.6.1... maybe it'll work, if doesn't,,, try flashing stock ... search for link.. guess its on gsmforum....:good::good::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

I did everything as said in many guides.
With same name as of my stock .ogg files I
replaced my system sounds and changed
permissions by root explorer and rebooted.
Now I'm able to see my ringtones only and the ui
sounds are not working ( the lock, unlock and low
battery and charging sound ) and whenever my
battery goes below 15℅ message appears that
system ui has stopped working and the phone
hangs and I have to remove the battery to restart
it.
It annoys very much. Please help
Thanks in advance.

LG G3 - How to install ANY apps on the watch?

Hello guys! As first i wanna say thanks a lot for everything you guys do *(This is meant for Developers, Helpers, Admins....,and everybody else that contributes!)* XDA is the best website of its kind - THANKS TO YOU!
Okay so, recently i decided to treat myself with a Phone watch - Samsung Galaxy Gear S from T-MOBILE. i always liked technology and new things that come out and they are one of a kind for a period of time. Phone i have the watch paired with is mine LG G3 from VERIZON, rooted running on Jasmine ROM V3.0 - 4.4.2.
To connect the phone to the watch (Gear Manager APP) i used the tutorial from this forum (Duhhhh.... Where else?! ) if anybody needs it click HERE
Now, when i connected my GEAR S to my G3, the watch did factory reset, which deleted all the apps that were on it which i installed using my old Samsung Galaxy S3 (I do not use it at all, its a ,,backup'' phone etc...)
The question is : Is there any way i could install some apps on the GEAR S without resetting it to factory defaults, and pairing with S3?
I read somewhere you can push em somehow, but first how do i get the apps itself? Im missing a lot of apps and if i wont be able to install anything i dont see a need to use the device till i get some apps on it like OPERA etc... Some useful stuff.
I hate the games that manafacturers play these days. All this stuff to make your life more difficult. Selling a watch which has its own sim card, own internet connection etc... I dont know why they just wont put an APP STORE on the watch.
Now if there is a way to install Samsung APP MARKET on my LG G3, and my phone will be able to push apps into GEAR S please post an tutorial or at least instruction, i will be more than happy to read it, test it and by the way i would make a nice long tutorial for the users of this great forum.
Ps. I tried installing the Samsung Market yesterday (i found an APK available for download) but the APK didnt install. It failed. What i did is edited my build.prop for the phone to identify as GT-i9500 and it bricked my phone 3 - it would boot but my launchers wouldn't load and just kept saying that the application has crashed, over and over and over again. I had a backup which i replaced using TWRP file manager, and fixed my phone..
Well, i hope somebody will be able to help!
Ps2. Just a little offtopic - Do you guys think that Samsung Gear S would of been better with Android as OS? I belive so!
Thank you very much for your time!:good:
Im post instructions HOW to install samsung apps market in THIS thread... read all thread and pages from my post to the end of thread...
