Hi guys i found it i am PHYSC on freaktab,i had to choose PHYSC-1 on here as PHYSC was used already, but yes i am hoping the recovery menu find pushes someone to get a custom firmware going.I also have tutorials i was going to link to them here but thought it may be a bit cheeky to post links to other sites on here? They are for the k-r42 android tv box which i cooling modded,i have an ouya as well,i have a youtube channel i babble on a bit and give [email protected] commentary sorry,i am no tv personality unfortunately,my channel is called ouya shimming.
But to the point i would love to see someone mod the m.o.j.o with kitkat and forced 1080p as mad catz conveniently forgot to mention before people buy the m.o.j.o that some tv don't natively get supported at 1080p on the m.o.j.o,there developer told me on the phone that it's bad communications between the tv and the android os 4.2.2 that's on the m.o.j.o,so maybe someone can make it better using kitkat set in 1080p natively? Also i think a completely stock android os would be better with kitkat as primary.
I just wish i could remember the button sequence to get the last bit of that menu to appear

I sort of figured out how to get to the extra data reset menu part and it is still pressing windows/print screen/home then up arrow,i believe you have to exit the first section of the recovery menu 1st to go back to the broken robot screen then you do as i suggested and if done in a specific way it brings up erase. It may however have been that you press down to the bottom of 1st list of the set of adb update and erase cache options then press up once meaning it won't move up but would in theory have highlighted the erase option if it were visible then you back out some how to the robot and then windows print screen and home up arrow to re-enter into the erase option menu. That bit is a bit of a mystery as i only managed to re-inact it once tonight. But it could mean you accidentaly select a wrong erase or similar if you took my word for it and for all we know kill the installation. This menu finding is not really for the faint of heart to be honest.

I bit the bullet just and sent a message to clockwork mod on facebook,i requested that they view this thread and asked if they have any plans or if they currently are working with the m.o.j.o to design a recovery menu. That's the best i can do as i am no developer my self otherwise i'd try and make it my self.

you sent a msg to some random facebook page. that page isnt some form of official channel for cm or anything of teh sort, so my understanding is you guys have root and you just now got into recovery (reboot recovery in terminal emulator wouldnt work?). has anyone dumped the partitions? has anyone even mapped them out?
i dont have this device and probably never will (200 bucks seems a bit much IMO) but i was looking into android set-top boxes and came accross this forum and saw that nothing was going on.

Unfortunately reboot recovery through the terminal emulator does reboot, but it goes to the fastboot loader screen goes black for about 15 seconds followed by http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag34/phelsumania/Mobile Uploads/IMG_20140620_194945.jpg
I also didn't have much luck through adb shell neither.
So far your the only person by the sounds of it with a genuine knowledge of development that's ventured on to the board which is really really sad. But thank you for the hint its appreciated. I honestly don't have a Scooby with development, I did start trying to make a port of CWM for the mojo but its not exactly the ideal devise to be learning on. But even if it did port across OK I still wouldn't know how to install it without access to a bootloader to select the zip file.

I've read it into it before a while back but never really had to use it as of yet, but sure I can watch some YouTube video and do some reading in a bit to work out how to use it.
He he am selling my vita atm just didn't really use it at all and used it for a bit when onlive went down, but since its back with cloudlift I just use cloudlift on my phone with a sixaxis, I was planning on using the madcatz controller but it don't connect up to my phone. And I don't fancy changing my ROM to a compatible one, as I like the one am one.

I'll also donate $15 USD to you if you get it
Until 1st of july you can get 20% off the mojo and ctrlr using code: ONLIVE20
If you need another controller, I recommend getting the second one.
I like the controllers, the only neg IMHO is the stiff, raised dpad.
I've done a few reviews here:
https://www.youtube.com/user/gwald/videos
And my blog's here:
http://xpcoin.com
If you have any questions about the device or want me to test something for you, just let me know (on holiday until the 8th July).
I'm a programmer java (a bit in C/C++) I know linux, but don't have any android hacking experience.
I'm happy to do dev/testing etc, on my device, I just don't want to permantely brick it.:crying:
Now that there's a few of us here, it would be nice to look at what ouya and shield communities have and see if we can 'borrow' it :victory:

I'll keep plugging away at recovery even if i dont buy one just for teh sake of helping yall out and hopefully we can get it working. however depending on what google brings out today it may have my attention in terms of what im buying more. thanks for teh tip about the code, onlive actually sent me it as well and what reminded me about this console (you would think that mad catz would do some sort of PR stunt like send 4-5 boxes to devs etc to get cm support). as for controllers i couldnt bring myself to invest in anymore anyway i cut it, i have a 360 with 4 wireless ones and i use the usb wireless receiver to play any games on my pc and i know android supports 360 controllers.
no worries about bricking it though, unless mad catz did something absolutely stupid recovery mode doesnt effect the rest of the device

So, yes - I need to know how to brick my phone beyond repair please....
"Why !?" I hear you ask....
Imagine the situation: Some b*st*rd has stolen your phone . You are never going to see it again... ever... absolutely zero chance of getting it back...
If you had the option to brick it so no one could sell or use it, would you?
Yes, of course you would!!
It's possible to remotely execute any BusyBox/Terminal Command using the application Tasker and I want to know which one would do the most damage!?
Please let me know! "How do I totally brick my phone?"
load a corrupted radio file
ohhh, sorry to hear that. I had the perfect solution if you still had the phone. But um yea I don't take out my phone near any friends. My brother got his vibrant stolen only after 2 weeks.
Didn't mean to mislead! My phone hasn't actually been stolen! But I'm working on security profiles and need to know what the final command should be to end its life....
Can you flash a radio from the Terminal Emulator?

This is what I did and I actually got Verizon to give me a re-furb. What it does is bring you to the htc inc white screen then nothing else. Use root explorer go into systems/fonts and change the name on one of the droidsans.ttf files. I think I totally erased the files but changing them should cause the phone to be totally [email protected]#$. I hope this messes up your phone. Lol

Flash a stock recovery image to disable flashable recovery. Also renaming a file doesn't make the phone broken, it just doesn't allow it to boot.

To flash a recovery image from TE use this if your ROM supports it: flash_image recovery /sdcard/(name of recovery)
An example for me is: flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-heroc.img

Do you have the information to know whether it's truly been stolen yet? I'd make sure that it's really been stolen and you, for sure, wouldn't get it back before attempting something like this. I definitely wouldn't want to brick my own phone on purpose just to find out I forgot it somewhere...

You shouldn't brick it quite the opposite, the thief should be able to keep using the phone as much as possible but in the mean time the gps should be secretly turned on and photos should be make so you can track the thief or if that fails publish his info and name and shame him

You are absolutely right godutch, that is the main aim of the profiles to keep booting into the OS at every opportunity, even using fake recovering images (as in a photo of the custom recovery screen) for the splash and boot animation that appear to be the device gathering system information - all the time it will actually be booting with the launcher, notification bar and lock screen etc disabled so not to give it away - once there the priority is to get a GPS fix
However, there will come a point when you've not heard a peep from the device in days and perhaps your insurance (if you have it) have already paid out... In which case, some users will want to execute the remote 'self destruct' command, to make sure the phone will never be usable to anyone else....
Edit: Trying to make the thief provide a valid gmail address and forwarding the new number if the SIM is changed are all in there too!
What if thief changes to SIM that has no data plan or does not enter any wifi area?
Hey guys. These posts are all too common but I really am distressed here (I'm worried I bricked my phone and don't have technical skill to bring it back to life), and please, any help would be really appreciated.
Here's the last thing that happened before I acted stupidly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15708254&postcount=394
long story short: tried to update to new cwm but couldn't do the step to delete a file in system/etc called install-recovery
I could not find a way to delete the file I needed to delete, install-recovery, I just gave up and thought "well, whatever. I have tenfar's older CWM on my phone anyway, and I never end up NEEDING it because everything goes fine if I follow the directions (ironic thing to think when not following directions).
So I continued following kennethpenn's guide on brief mobile, doing all steps except for #2:
Prerequisites
Unlocked bootloader
CWM recovery
External SD card
Gingerbread zip (download above)
Backup PDS partition
Backup data and applications
Installation
1.Unlock your bootloader
2.Download CWM recovery and flash it
3.Mount your device to USB
4.Put the Gingerbread .zip file on your external SDcard
5.Click “install zip from sdcard”
6.Choose zip from sdcard
7.Pick the gingerbread .zip
8.Install it!
9.Reboot
Click to collapse
I was definitely rooted, and am pretty confident that I unlocked the bootloader, because it took me a long time but I followed all the steps and got all the right responses on the phone and it said (and still says) Unlocked in the upper left corner during bootup, and I learned a lot this morning and was feeling good...
Flashing went fine, until after I rebooted in the recovery menu, and.... boot loops; the M would swirl around, turn dead, come back 3 seconds later, go dead again, on and on, until I did a battery pull
One last thing that I didn't think about now but may be a huge reason for the problem: I was on 1.8.3 but deodxed and running the latest "P-ROM" Ginger Blur.
So I can get into the fastboot, stock android recovery, and like ten other options during bootup. What I want to do is just start fresh because it'll set me back a lot, but right now I just want a functional phone. So can I do a factory reset in the boot menu, or would that just permanently brick it forever considering I unlocked the boot-loader, was themed, etc etc?
Thanks - any suggestions greatly appreciated.
To all the other newbs that love this stuff, but don't really know wtf you're doing, the moral of my story is "follow the directions EXACTLY and if you're unsure that you can do that, then don't proceed.

I can't wait to have my phone again! It's only been two days but there have been so many times I needed to use it, I never realized how dependent I am on my phone. It's going to be so great, like when you go to a bad camp for summer, and you're hot and covered in bugs the whole time, and when you finally ge back home to all the creature comforts, like air conditioning, TV, computers, video games, microwaves, etc, and you feel like "this is absolutely amazing!!" and appreciate everything anew

DONE!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
If you're ever around Hershey or Harrisburg, Pennsylvania USA, let me know
Your Welcome! I just saw this:
http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/02/clockwork-recovery-image.html
THE REAL CLOCKWORK RECOVERY, if you really need it I can do a script like the one that I just send you, just ask!
Hey everyone, I started this guide myself after coming to the conclusion that there wasn't any real clear or even good guide to flashing a recovery after having to use the HTCDEV tool to unlock your bootloader. If you had to use the HTCDEV tool method it is becasue your bootloader is version 1.50 and the revolutionary method will not work for you at this point in time.
This is my own guide I wrote and is soley my own work despite what some insecure noobs think on these forums. I'm not claiming to have discovered this method first, I'm just sharing my knowledge in a neat little guide to just be of any help to those who need it!
Please visit here if you havent used the HTCDEV Tool yet to unlock your bootloader. [http://htcdev.com/bootloader/]
After using the HTCDEV tool you will need
a recovery and Superuser permissions to have root access. The only recovery I was able to flash and get working correctly using this method was the exact version of cwm that you can download from this guide. I was not able to get TWRP or any other recovery to work this way...
**make sure you have ADB set up on your computer (download AndoridSDK and open up SDK Manager and install the add on packages)**
Step 1: Download the cwm zip from this post and place the .img file in your
androidsdk/tools folder. Then download the su zip folder and place this on the root of your SD card
Step 3: Reboot the phone into bootloader (Vol down + Power), then select fastboot usb next.
Step 4: open up your command prompt and enter these lines of command
Code:
CD C:\AndroidSDK\tools
(your's might look different)
Code:
fastboot flash recovery c:\androidsdk\tools\cwm-4.0.1.4-shooter(1).img
**you should now see that it will flash the recovery in your command promt window**
Step 5: When its done flashing the recovery go ahead and boot into recovery and flash the su zip file so you will have root permissions!!
You should be done after this you can flash roms or reboot normally.
Nevermind.
Couple things wrong/could be done better with this post, no offense, just things you'll want to correct or add.
~ You're going to want to explain how to get ADB going, because as of the past few versions, it's very convoluted to get.
~ You can't directly reboot into Fastboot (at least, not without being fully rooted already). The phone must be fully turned off, and before you even do that, you need to turn off the "fast boot" option in the Android power settings completely off. That "fast boot" option is completely unrelated to Fastboot mode but if you leave "fast boot" checked on, the phone doesn't fully power off when you press and hold power.
~ As far as formatting goes, you'll want to wrap the command prompt lines in code tags which are these: [.code].[./code] (no periods). That way, it looks like this:
Code:
cd C:\AndroidSDK\tools
The same goes with the fastboot command, because otherwise it's confusing as to what the entered code really should be.
~ You've packaged the recovery as a RAR, when in reality, you don't actually need to package it up as anything, you can directly upload the img. Also, for the sake of convenience, because not everyone has the same ADB path (and by extension, not everyone will be able to copy and paste the command you put up) you can rename the image to just "recovery.img" because when you're tying the fastboot recovery flash command out, it's irritating to type out the full name of the recovery.
The HTC unlock method does not give you S-Off. You'll still be S-On, but you're able to install a recovery then flash the SU zip. Its important to note that the newest version of cwm that I was able to get working was 4.0.1.4. I was not able to get any version of TWR working. You are also unable to flash custom boot.img's, making kernel modification impossible.
Thanks for the input! I will revise the guide just wanted something quick for people out there that were thinking that they could not have any recovery after using the htc dev tool, and thus not being able to flash any custom roms.
I never got TWRP flashed either, or any other version of cwm except the one I posted on the thread...but its better than no recovery and it gives you the ability to obtain root access so you can also use rooted apps.
I have now used both revolutionary and the HTCDEV tool multiple times, the HTCDEV tool being a bigger pain in the rear than I had figured but it was only because no other recovery would install except for cwm via fastboot adb.
As for custom kernels, maybe using a rom with a baked in kernel would be a good option since it would flash together with the rom.
Also, It would not let me attatch the file as a .img file there were errors so I had to zip them in order to attatch them in my thread.

...why did you use the HTC Dev tool after Revolutionary? Do you realize what you've done by doing that?
I hope what you meant was that you had the 2.3.4 stock update and tried to use Revolutionary, found out it didn't work, and then tried the HTC Dev tool, because running the HTC Unlock after successfully using the Revolutionary tool is not the best idea on the planet.
The downside to using HTC's Unlock (for those who think 'oh, i have root and recovery, i'm ok) is that you can't use custom kernels or updated Radio stacks.
Baked in kernel won't matter, the boot partition (as far as I can tell) is still locked.
So you just troll chat rooms and kang people's work and claim it as your own eh? Way to kang this entire writeup. You didn't figure this out.

First off I didnt use both rooting methods...I used revolutionary on my own evo and had to use the devtool on a friends....I'm not that stupid I know the difference between the two. The reason I started this post was because when I was having difficulties when flashing a recovery on my freinds phone after using the dev tool I couldn't find any help or thread on getting this to work. Maybe I didn't look hard enough but the only help I got was off android forums and there was a real vague description on getting the recovery to flash...I was trying to help not troll...nor did I calim this was MY discovery at all in my thread lol.

Hey guys I just joined the site a few days ago after being sent here by some guys from some Audio forums, which is my main hobby. I guess you could say Im kind of a techy but am just now getting in to laptop building and things like that so I am still a newb. Anyways I just got the HTC DNA which I like quite a bit but Id like a little more out of it such as little better battery life, more customization, and to get rid of the bloat ware installed. On that note however I have never done anything much with phones since this is my first Droid after using Iphones which is why Im starting this thread...
I have been reading around and am still quite lost as to what I need to do to get what I wanted (battery life, customization, and to get rid of bloatware). I really like the ViperDNA ROM after watching the video but not sure if....
1. It will do what I want?
2. How to install it/make it run properly?
3. If there is something better?
So if you guys could walk me through what it takes to run something like that I would greatly appreciate you helping out some one new to this whole "Rooting" thing since this is my first Droid... If I can return the favor by helping out with your Car audio or talking guns with anyone Id be glad to!

I love the ViperRom! It has every customization imaginable and is very professional looking. It helps with battery life but you can use pretty much any kernel you want with a rom and that probably has as much or more affect on battery life. You need to be rooted and have adb installed on your pc - are you to this point yet?
Here is a good link by droidmodd3rx that walks through most things on video. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012346
Also did you accept Verizon ota update in the last week? If so I am not sure you can root yet, they will have to work out a new method for that.

depending on what you named your directories are you going to the platform-tools directory? you need to type adb not adp, lower case not caps, and then there needs to be a command after adb. Try adb devices.

Well I got it unlocked finally but now when I go to flash the Recovery I just get an error... Sometimes the "emulator" one, "waiting on the device" , Or just cant the find file... Just doing it straight from the comand I open in the file or using Hansoon2000's tool...
Quick question
Hey, going to do a little thread jacking here. It seems like this would be the best place to ask my question. I'm a long-time iOS user that just switched and silly me accepted the OTA 2.04.605 update. Now, if I performed a hard reset wouldn't that put my software back to its factory settings and would allow me to unlock my bootloader? Sorry if this annoying just trying to make sure it'll work before I go through the hassle of restoring. Thanks for any help!

Your phone needs to be in fastboot for you to find it. Connect the phone, boot into the bootloader, enter fastboot, open a new command prompt, and try "fastboot devices". you should see the phone.
If you can't find the file then you're not in the right directory. Make sure you navigate to the folder that contains the file then run the command. (or you can just give it the full path to the file)

No, I don't think that'll help. The factory reset basically wipes memory and restores the original ROM. The OTA updates the radios / kernel. But don't quote me on that. I'll let a dev who knows better comment.

This question has been answered, but I thought I'd provide a little more detail to their answers:
On android, the memory is divided into several partitions (you might think of it like different disk drives), including a /boot, /system, and /data partition. The /boot partition is where the kernel (the heart of the android o/s) resides; the /system (where the bulk of the android o/s resides); the /data is where your apps and personal data reside. The /boot and /system partitions require system administrator level rights in order to change the information stored there (the system administrator account on android/linux is known as "root" or "superuser").
The update that came from VZW changed elements in the /system and /boot directories, using a superuser key to grant the update permission to change the files on those partitions.
Unfortunately, a factory reset only essentially re-formats the /data partition, wiping out all the user information stored there, but doesn't change the /system or /boot partitions.
The root process essentially hacks the device to gain system administrator rights to the android phone, using exploits in the android o/s. This is essentially a cat and mouse game. The update sent by VZW/HTC patches the exploits that were used to gain root access (that is why it is always dangerous to accept updates from VZW/HTC).
Hopefully the developers on this website will be able to find another exploit/weakness, and provide a way for those who have phones that have the update to obtain root, unlock the bootloader (another partition), and gain s-off (another level of turning a security flag to "off" so that even more partitions can be accessed/changed (ie.the /radio partition).
First off I would like to please ask everyone to thank the anonymous donor for this file because we wouldn't be seeing it today without them.
For all those that have been waiting, it's not the official release - but it is stable enough for daily driver use.
I haven't had much time to test this but the only issue I had with it was flashing it.
If it gets stuck trying to get to recovery pull the battery and flash again.
I am marking this a full restore because it looks like it wiped data, including pictures. YMMV.

Edit: And it seems to be fine with the NE5 modem too so no worries there.
I'm on my way home I may deodex it. Will post back if I do.
Oh great, I was just getting my rom ready to release an update, lol. Thanks for working on this guys.
