The most common response to these types of posts are to flash them and see for yourself bro. But in this case im flashing for a friend, and wont have access to flash them all and test it first. Anyone know of a stable ICS. JB or KK Rom that has working features like camera and bluetooth?
Thanks in advance for any advice you may have on this matter.:silly:
Let's start off with "what's the model number?"
Next question is...did you unlock the bootloader? Many have made the mistake of installing 2nd init cwm and then flashing a CM 11. Which gives the familiar security error.

I think mos stable is Artas182 cm 11
I wouldnt flash a rom on an l9. Ive tried 3 times, hard bricked each time with a "security error". Most of the roms for the l9 are unofficial, and the phone has low support. Dont do it man.

+1, nameless ROM is the best that could have happen to us, bugs are usually gone pretty quickly, both the namelessrom.org forums and the xda thread are helpful, bunch of cool features (I'm in love with the heads up function), and it seems like it'll go like this long enough to become a favorite. Also, don't be afraid of using these nightly releases, they all feel like a solid everyday use ROM. Just teach your friend how to use the update center to update his ROM when a new version is out, that is, everyday, or tell him to use the weekly releases instead.

So hello there sgs3 community!
I just received my sgs3 yesterday and wanted to know what should i do first with it?
I mean root and etc, could anyone help me with that?
It depends, are you happy with stock firmware?? Only you can decide buddy, its your phone. I rooted mine because their are a lot of good ROMs out their, each with different assets etc, but mainly because I didn't want to be limited on what I can do with my device, but if you want my opinion, I'd root and flash Tamaseks kang of CM10 naked android is always the best p.s make sure you have the international S3 (quad core) before you flash anything in this section because inevitably you will brick your device if you dont. Good luck buddy

Well I live in Lithuania and on the box says that it's quad core
I'm thinking just rooting it...
Is there any bootloaders (like HTC) i have to unlock?
The S3 comes with an unlocked bootloader out of the box but if you know what you're doing, go ahead buddy but make a backup after rooting

I have a question, when I root my s3 (CF-Root v6.4) do I need to install any other recoveries or some other programs (like triangleaway) to flash custom roms?

Triangle away isn't a recovery, its just an app that erases the flash counter in case you want to send your device to Samsung for repairs because you should know, unauthorized mods void your warranty. CF-Root has a recovery and will be installed upon flashing with Odin

The only way of switching to and from custom and stock, is to root, make a nandroid backup then flash custom firmware. The only downside is that your official firmware will always be rooted, unless you start afresh with Odin hope this helps buddy, welcome btw, good choice in switching from iPhone to S3....you won't regret it

Once you rooted your phone which also include cwm, you can backup your rom with cwm and flash other rom. If you don't like it, use cwm to restore your previous rom

Hi there,
This is mainly directed at devs. How come there are no roms being made for the P768?
The source codes are available for this phone, even for the jelly bean version of firmware. They can be found here. I'm not sure what the prerequisites are for building a rom for a phone, but we have source codes, the ability to unlock the bootloader, root, CWM. Is there anything else that is needed?
Sorry if this all sounds ignorant, I don't know anything about custom rom production, I wouldn't even know where to start
Im just curious, as the 760/765/769 all have CM10 in production and there hasnt been anything for us 768 users, I feel like us 768 users are being left out of the custom rom party
Thanks, donk
p768 user here, hope some one compile cm10 for our variant.
Patiently waiting for this also, hopefully soon.
sounds like we have some test pilots lining up. im down for testing also if anyone gets the ball rolling...

Many testers but no developers haha I'm down with this.

I guess on of the reasons is because the 768 isnt as popular and the current devs dpnt have the phone themselves. Also fastboot isnt the same as on 760 its more awkward to work.
I dont know what is needed from a device for development to start but the odds seem to be against us. Maybe when CM10 is fully stable, we might get a port from a kind dev

Hmm no, i didnt yet cause i saw a tutorial in HTCmania (a spanish forum like this) where they use binary's method with v10a (the same i have), i tried but gives me an error (says that located two devices or something like that) so i thought might be 'cause the bootloader is locked that i can't do it.

+1 here i have a P778 but is the same of P768...I wait for a CMD or my device!
really excited about the development taking place here... was disappointed with the development for this model (P768) as I came from the HTC Desire and Desire S forums where development was steady and there were always a plethora of ROMs to pick from with many tweaks and much easier to accomplish rooting, s-offing guides and such.
anyhow I hope my recent ota update to V20A South Africa also simplifies the rooting and bootloader unlocking process which I must admit I have been struggling to achieve on the L9...
I have my BL unlocked and i have got the time, energy and internet connection to do all this
Could anybody help me a bit?
I built cm10.1 for p760. It booted on my 768 but with the camera and torch issue.
I followed this tutorial to try building for p768 using the boot.img of V20A
It did not boot.
I tried using the boot.img built for p760. It did boot, but the screen was not functioning properly so I couldnt check for antything else.
My guesses are that cm10.1 is based on 4.2 and the kernel i used was for 4.1 so maybe that cause the conflict.
Or I need to build a kernel specially for cm10.1.
Could anybody please help me out?

you shoudn't flash an sbf file that is not the same as your current version. to update or not to update, that is entirely up to you. if yoh're satisfied with a gb os (2.3.x), don't upgrade. if you want ics (4.0 4) or jb (4.1.x-4.2.2), then update. just unlock the bootloader, root your phone, and enjoy

you could if you wanted, but most of the updated versions are available through the rom superthread thread in the development section. just be sure to pay attention to carrier specific roms if you chose to use one of them. and i did just see your post in another thread saying that you were on froyo. after seeing that, i would say yes, upgrade your phone to a better os. gb works great, ics and jb work well and will work better now that we have the new kernel, but expect bugs to be present, but they are still very usable roms

Long story short, I hard bricked a Nexus 4 flashing a bad ROM. So now I have a new one, and I want to know if there is a way to check if a ROM is bad for my phone before I flash it. If a thread on xda says, this ROM is for HTC one, does that meadoit is only safe for THAT phone, or is anything that is JB 4.2.2 and up safe for my nexus 4? Just want to make sure before I start flashing ROMs again. Thanks.
Bro answer is a big No!!
You cannot directly flash a rom of a device on other one.
Coz every device have different hardware configurations and a rom contains different things to control hardware like bootloader and kernel that are chipset specific and using the one on other device can/will lead to a hard brick!!!
Though u can use files from different roms system partitions and try them on your device!!
Hope this helped....

Just search for roms specifically made for your phone, make a nandroid back-up, wipe it and than flash the rom. Normally there shouldn't be as many problems then.

You cant flash ROM to your device as it is made for other device . You can find many custom ROMS for your device. just google it and dont flash before reading its review.
also check MD5 checksum before you plan to flash that downloaded ROM

You can make a poll I guess?
For me, I cannot justify the benefit of custom rom + 720p video vs. a fully-working excellent-battery-life modified stock with 1080p video capture
Moto Defy has even more roms and a locked bootloader imposible to unlock. I have a p768 and im really enjoying cm10.1.3. Its a lot better than stock in many ways.

me too. CM is a beautiful and stable rom. I hope in future someone will fix 1080p recording...
I am not debating the value of stock vs. custom roms guys. I have a rooted G1 and an HD2 and about 4 more rooted devices so I know the value of rooting. I was only wondering about custom roms for the L9 since all I read is issue after issue with rooting and devs leaving this phone for a different one.

well you can get everything from modded stock roms to cynogenmod with a unlocked phone. the phone being so locked down it probably the main reason you don't see much being done with it.

The phone is great, but LG locking up the bootloader killed it for everyone. Tho I was lucky enough to have an unlockable one I still may just consider switching to another device. The trouble with the bootloader is enough to slow down progress and that alone is a good enough reason to convince me to find something better. I'm not considering LG unless my next option is the G2 or N5. I'd even be content with an N4.

i think your confusion root with unlocked. we can mod the stock rom and we so. but its all done by hand by you not simply flashing a new one and no updates will work you will need to reflash stock non rooted using the tools hear. you will be stuck with the rom you have when they quit updating the device. i agree don't think i will be buying another lg phone but a nexus 5 because nexus products are easily unlocked etc by one simple adb command.
I have a question. @Lelus, @leolawliet, @kuma82, is there any way to package a ROM as a KDZ and flash using the offline flash method? Or is that a ridiculous thought?
