Is there a fix/hack to get BitTorrent Sync to use my ethernet connection? I got the same issue on both Android 4.2.2 and 4.4.2 on my Radxa Rock.
BitTorrent Sync isn't able to use my ethernet connection to sync files. All other apps I have tried so far is using the ethernet connection to get online but it seems like BitTorrent Sync only recognizes Wi-fi and mobile connections. I have tried enabling the settings to enable it to sync over mobile thinking it would try to sync on anything available but it did nothing.
Any ideas?
BitTorrent Sync Android client fails over ethernet
After hours and hours of going around and around in circles on this, I found the same problem.
And until it's fixed the only hack/solution is to turn on Wi-Fi.
And there's also file a bug/feature request, which I also did, and hopefully, everybody else who has this problem will also do.
I tried another custom rom made by Oma and BitTorrent Sync works with my ethernet connection on my Radxa Rock! Do you have the same device or something else? Perhaps one could try and contact Oma if this is a fix he has made in the custom rom? If you do before me, please reply back with any useful findings.
I know I tried enabling "Use mobile data" on 2.2.4 and it didn't work, I can't swear I did try it on the 4.4.2. Cause it must be enabled in this custom rom as well to work. Maybe it does work on 4.4.2 with "Use mobile data" enabled as well?

Actually it did work for me even on Android 4.2.2 when enabling "Allow mobile connection" in the settings, I was being to impatient cause it took quite some time before it made the first connection, close to a minute.
Worth a try for you to?

Guys,
I upgraded to WM6 using the original ROM posted here some weeks ago, everything has been going fine, up until I went away on business last week and found I couldnt get the internet connection sharing application to properly share the connection - it said connected and I had a local ip, but I couldnt view web pages on the laptop.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is it a known problem? Have I done something daft?

It works fine here. Did you try to use it on USB or Bluetooth. In usb you need to switch off USB connection in AS. In bluetooth you should use NAP (Network Access Poin) service for connection.
Hey, thanks for the hints, I've managed to get it working now (posting over it at the moment).
I was connecting via USB and disabling the active sync USB and changing the connection style on the phone seemed to fix it.
I thought I saw a .cab file here somewhere that would allow you to bridge the 3G/EDGE connection to the WiFi connection so I can share my 3G over WiFi to laptop or whatever.
Anyone seen this? I cant remember the name, thought it was something like WMBridge or something.
Thanks

internet connection sharing will allow you to share your 3G over bluetooth or USB to your laptop !!
and now that I think about it you can almost certainly go through the arduous and difficult task of getting activesync to connect over an adhoc wifi connection, once that is done you will be able to use the phone as a 3G modem for your laptop.

u can do it tht way but its hard, and requires a registry hack, which to be fair doesnt work all that well, disconns after a couple of mins at best, bluetooth is the way to go if u want wireless connecton, although i use the lead for security, u can use the 3g conn as a modem, but then if u like us use tmob wb and walk then u cnt use ur data package.
hope this helps

The app is called wmWifiRouter. Looks like they just came out with a new version the 10th. Forget bluetooth, its not secured at all, and only lets you share with one device. With wmwifirouter you can share with many. See the link below.

excellent that is exactly what I was looking for, I will play with it today and see if I can get it to work.
Thanks

Should be a simple matter of copying the exe to your device and running it. It takes care of all the registry settings, starting up Internet Sharing, keeping the connection alive, and with the latest version you can even put the unit to sleep and your connection will stay alive. About the only thing it doesn't do is set up a peer-to-peer profile with a fixed IP address, but the thread above walks you through that. Make sure you set the profile to use WPA encryption (NOT WEP or 'open') and set a password.

I finally got around to trying this and have had no luck. I followed the directions as best as I could tell. Anyone verify if this works on the Athena? I used to have the method set up manually but hadn't set it up again since updating to AP3.0. This would be much handier... if works!

The directions are confusing because the newer method was grafted onto the same thread as the older method. So it's hard to tell what's what. I put about an hour into this but made no progress. The exe file doesn't appear to do anything on the Athena...

Sorry, just saw your response as I wrote mine. Here is what I did:
1. set up an ad hoc network on my Athena. IP address 192.168.0.1 (another place saide 192.168.0.7--tried both)
2. Set up on my client (MacBook Pro). A connection was established.
3. Ran the exe file -- nothing happened. One comment said to deactivate the network before running. I did this in various degrees with no success.
4. Also opened up the Internet Sharing applet and tried to connect manually -- "USB cable is not connected."
Clearly I'm missing something here. It would be very handy to have this capability. Can you clarify??
Not sure why you are having a problem - I unzipped the zip, transfered the exe to the athena and it ran on the first try after first setting up the ad-hoc wifi connection (settings, connections, wi-fi, network adapters tab, IEEE..., use specific IP address in the 192.168.x.x range; then go to the other tab and set up an ad-hoc connection).
I had an even worse experience. Everytime I ran the exe, my Athena locked up, needing a complete reset each time.
I gave up in the end .
I have got other methods to work using Mortscipts, but it does seem like something that would be well worth someones time sorting out for the good of us all.
Have you tried the latest version of wmWifiRouter? The developer released a new version of it earlier this month. Its on version 0.8 now.
Hi all,
I got problem with internet connection on my HD2 (ROM 1.48). There are 2 ways I connect to the internet - WIFI and GPRS. GPRS connection works fine - I can download and read e-mails, make backups with MyPhone, update weather information, etc. But when I connect to the internet with WIFI, there are only 2 things I can do. I can browse web pages with Opera and update Twitter messages. But I can´t download e-mails, make backups, update weather information, etc. When I try to update or backup something, there is connection error (through that connection between phone and router is fine and web pages are running).
It seems to me like most of applications want to connect to internet via GPRS only. Is there any way to set up (or check) the phone to connect to the internet via WIFI when it is turned on?
Thanks for any advice
Sorry cant help but agree - it would be fantastic if there was some way of knowing / controlling when it used GPRS data and when it uses wifi. When wifi availabe obviously would rather use that than be charge a small firtune for data.
Any one out there about to help with this??
Internet browsing
Ditto. I can - after HUGE effort - connect WiFi but I cannot browse the internet using either Opera or IE. 2 year old Nokia connected and browsed literally within 2 secs! Also, the phone keeps connecting via GPRS all the time even with data connections off. Can anyone help? Thanks PS I know it's unproductive & forgive me, but I have to get this off my chest: this is the worst cellphone I've ever owned. Bluetooth doesn't work, internet doesn't work, handsfree car kit doesn't work. Does anything work?

correction, YOUR Bluetooth doesn't work, YOUR internet doesn't work, YOUR handsfree car kit doesn't work.
Get it exchanged. (if they genuinely dont work)
@others, go to settings menu all settings connection connections advanced select networks.
there are two dropdowns, in teh top one should be the name of your mobile data, , this is what automatic progs will use to connect to the web, in teh bottom one it should be 'the internet' (or sometimes 'my work network'), meaning they use wifi if available, and data if not.
(At least thats how they should work....)
If you set the top one the same as teh bottom one, nothing should try to use mobile unless wifi is not connected.
Could be a proxy problem? some operators set up a proxy, which can screw with connections.
samsamuel: Thank you for your advice. I´ve tried it - in both dropdowns I got "my work network", but no success.
I´ve found something interessting. When I turn on YouTube client (using WIFI), I can´t play videos. That should be ok when I got problem with internet connection. But YouTube client shows on the welcome screen preview of today´s added videos. So the question is why should application download preview of video, but it can´t play the video? I´m a little bit confused
Thanks for the suggestion, but I had tried that already and it did not work. I don't think it is just my cellphone. There are many comments re the HD2 that make it clear that it does not work with a Parrot handsfree carkit, Motorola S9 headset etc, and the 2 earlier posts reveal problems using WiFi too. It seems to be problematic on many fronts. I cannot even connect it using Windows Mobile via an USB port! And while I appreciate all suggestions it seems to me that this model is a (very expensive) lemon and frustrates huge numbers of owners. I find it odd that a 2 year old Nokia N95 can connect and browse instantly and a 'smart phone' doesn't work at all. I find it to be very gimmicky. I don't need twitter, facebook etc. I need voice dial, good PC software (like Ovi and PC suite) and bluetooth that works etc. The HD2 has none of this, but great graphics of a windscreen wiper, exactly the sort of pointless gimmick that reveals that the designers were interested in making a toy and not a useful phone.
I suggest you try and install "HTC_Wi-Fi_onDemand_by_Krocher". This program will always use wifi when available and stop the GPRS from connecting and will also keep your wifi on a stand-by. Please do read through the thread as you have to make sure that no programs using wifi are activated when you want it to be off. For me it solved several problems with wifi.
Second thought is to upgrade to one of the much more stable and already tweaked OS's. There are quite a lot out and you'll find everything about that on this forum as well.
Last thought, if it does not work it must be something to do with either the settings or the OS version as for others it works absolutely fine. These are complicated phones that, much like computers, must be set and tweaked to the correct settings in order to get the best out of them. If you just want a "buy and run" phone this is not the one.
Success,
Itamar
I am running Nilsp business ics 3.x, s-on as of now, I have been using the Wifi tether app that Nilsp added to the rom with the profile set to Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE) and the routing fix checked, and it works for the most part. What happens is my laptop will be connected to the wifi from the phone but it can't access the internet because it says "limited access" with a little exclamation sign next to it. It is not that the phone is not connected to the internet though because my buddy's iPad will be connected to the internet at the same time and it will be working fine for him. Could be a problem with the phone, could be a problem with my computer, I don't know. My computer will connect to other wifi signals just fine. Very confused on this matter. Anyone got any answers?

probably the laptop:
make sure you don't have any static-ip settings on your wifi adapter. Let the phone get an IP dynamically. Also don't set any specific dns entries either. I had difficulty from both angles if I didn't just let the wifi-tether app dictate the network settings to the laptop.
Also, do you have any custom firewalls on your laptop? The phone defaults to the 192.168.2.0/ network, so it's not the same as your home router, which is probably 192.168.1.0/
My laptop does that as well but the limited access for about a minute or so but then works fine. Im not sure what causes it
Boot to safe mode with networking (f8 on boot up) and see if it connects.
If it works in safemode with networking then you have a firewall issue.
I can assist further if it is the case
Ok so yeah I am haiving the same problem as hardfallen87. I'm sorry but I don't think I completely understand everything you guys have said to try and help. I sort of understand the IP address stuff but I can't find any settings like that anywhere on the computer. And no I do not have any custom firewall installed.
Still haven't really fixed this problem. I'm still constantly getting limited access on my PC from my phone's WiFi tethering app. I am now running Nils Business ICS Sense 4 version 2.6 and am S-off but it seems no matter what ROM I use it doesn't make a difference. Any help is appreciated...

Okay, well that seems to be it, switching to Mobile Data. But why? It's always worked before over wifi and nothing has changed in my Internet status or on my phone. Same internet, same cable modem, same router, same ROM with the same settings. And I've rebooted modem, router, and phone. What can I look for that could be blocking Themer beta from working on my phone (GNII) over wifi that has changed since 2 days ago?
Edit: Unless Google is hiding some kind of firewall tweak inside a recent Search or YouTube update, I'm stumped!
Edit 2: All other Internet services on the phone including T-Mobile wifi calling are working normally.
The issue to me is themer same thing data works fine wifi a pain in arse,as you say this has only been an issue over the last couple of days. Also now running very sluggish, everything else again is running fine over wifi just themer having issue
Problem solved, sort of: I've isolated the issue to my own Charter cable connection. It works fine on mobile or wifi data connection outside of my own location. In my Motorola cable box, if I go to the firewall settings, and change the firewall protection to "none," Themer works. But if I change it to "Low," it doesn't, even though I've always had it on "low." Guessing they pushed out an update or changed something on the backend.
Can anyone tell me what port (if not port 80) that Themer uses on the phone to connect to themer servers?
