[Q] Disable Immersive mode gestures - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
As you might know, you can swipe either from the top or the bottom to reveal the status- and navbar in Immersive Mode. Now would it be possible (preferably with Xposed) to disable one of these gestures? For example, you don't want to accidentally. And please don't ask me why, I just want to know if it is possible. Thanks.
Regards,

I'm searching for that too! I want my navbar back

I want to disable immersive mode all together. A real feature no one wanted or asked for.
Gah ****ing android its UI is so inconsistent from version to version it drives me nuts!!! iOS from version 1 to version 8 its still the same. Android got it wrong the first time and they take such mis-steps everyone just gets angry with this crap.

Here is how to save space using optimization of the soft buttons!

So I ordered now LG G2 32GB (950USD in Israel, I know its expensive but well... thats what it is and I wanted a device with large screen, powerfull multi tasking and something that I wont have to replace in 1 year but at least in 2 years, super power little computer for all my internet, emails, mult tasking, office things...), I could choose Z Ultra, S4, Optimus G Pro but took G2 as most people online voted for this one and I heard them plus I liked the way this device looks from all photos I watched and I liked it's longer life per each charge versus others (from reviews i was reading).
Now something I feel bothered with, I see on youtube that this soft menu buttons stays even in games, pretty much anywhere...
So following my study, how to make the LG G2 perfect in terms of screen space utilization and avoid loosing so much space due to the soft buttons (your own risk):
1) Root your device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45692679#post45692679
2) Auto Hide soft keys: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmd.hidesoftkeys&hl=en
3) Use the auto hide function of the soft keys and enjoy from the footer menu when you need it without it always be there OR dont use the footer menu at all and enjoy from Pie Menu style using LMT launcher: http://www.droid-life.com/2013/01/23/lmt-launcher-brings-pie-goodness-without-the-custom-rom/

Does the app allow you to reduce the size of the navigation bar? I'd like to make it slightly smaller. If not, does anyone know of an app or method that does allow this?
Thanks
The international version has the auto hide function built in through an update. Verizon is probably just being a hard case and holding the update for their G2s.

WHATTTTT!!?!?! Seriously?!?! That would be sick!
Please elaborate and provide screenshot of these settings!
Thank you!
Basically, you select the apps that you want it hidden when in use. It should've been a default feature but I'll take the OTA if it's a quick fix. Not sure if it's like auto-hide key app where you can swipe up. I think it's more permanent (hidden or visible) with no middle ground.

So I tried it out, and you can adjust the size with the auto hide bar, but not the static (default) navigation bar. I kind of like the auto hide and may keep it, but if I can find a way to just reduce the height of the stock bar I may prefer that.

By the way I spoke to the LG MOBILE department in USA about the auto hide feature. this is the official response:
I definitely understand some of the suggestions you have made. I will pass this along the departments that manage software and development. Thanks again for your insight ^FC
I vote for some pie app or custom rom with builtin pie.
You can set it on bottom or side of screen or both. Revolution of big screen and one hand use! I allso bought that gmd autohide softkeys app but nevergoing back.
Customrom, fullscreen mode and pie control!
Best thing since 1st android!

Quick tip for rom users

If you cant stand that knock off is gone on your custom rom that you have happily flashed on your g2... ive noticed alot of people asking so here is a few solutions if you already dont have one! Got a better way? Suggest it! Will edit if necessary.
1. If you dont use google now from your home button swiping up... download the app in the link below!
{FOR CYANOGENMOD USERS} Your rom already comes with a toggle for this... accessible from SETTINGS>>INTERFACE>>QUICK LAUNCH SHORTCUTS... obviously slide up and set it as "Screen off" towards the bottom of the list.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
>> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en <<
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once you have that downloaded you can now swipe up like you would normally access google now... it will now give you the option to set a default for the screen off application, do it and now you can swipe up from anywhere on your device (Even the lockscreen) to turn off your screen without having to touch the buttons on the back! (Now i noticed when i was running an AOKP rom this didnt work every time as due to the fact every time it would shut off it would turn right back on... if thats the case for you try out option 2!
2. [YOU WILL NEED THE SAME APPLICATION AS IN OPTION 1] This is a simple bit, but your rom might not have this capability... if you go to your navbar settings you should be able to enable long press actions for buttons... select any button you'd like and set the long press for the application you have downloaded!
3. [YOU WILL NEED THE SAME APPLICATION AS IN OPTION 1] And lastly your third option... this should be if neither option 1 nor 2 work for your custom rom which they should... This one however is not easily accesible from any screen on your device only your home screen... first things first download that application above, now you download a launcher such as Apex launcher which i would reccomend because it allows this without paying for the full version and i tend to like apex alot better, from there go straight into your apex settings and go to behaviour... check out those gestures and set that application as your gesture! Nova launcher's is pretty self explanitory if you have prime. after that your good to go! Easy accesable screen off techniques you cant live without on the g2, hope this helps some of you!
I have another idea. Use GMD gesture control and use the edge of your screen to turn off the phone, or even double tap the nav bar (the app is ridiculously useful)
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app
Another option for CM Roms is to use the app below which gives you the option to Knock Off from anywhere on the entire home screen when using Apex or Nova and then have a double tap set or any other gesture you like up to execute this app.

Permission to add this?
My main reason for loving Knockon (and not jumping to any rom) is the wake up feature though. This is the first time that I have an android device where I don't rape the power button just to look at how pretty my lockscreen or launcher is.

Not sure which swipe gestures you refer to - swipe up?
After reading this post, I tried Pie but didn't care for how fiddly it was trying to hit the back icon.
So then I found this and am very happy with it https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.edgegestures. This, coupled with BX Actions' 'control mode' means Bixby is now my hardware back button (double tap is last app, long press is recents) and Edge Gestures gives me swipe for back.

Im talking about disabling navbar, like in immersive mode and using swipe gestures in the area where the bar was. I did that on my Pixel using Swipe Navigation (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.suphi.swipenavigation)
Swiping up from the bottom center acts as home; swiping up from left corner acts as back; swiping up from right corner up acts as recents
EDIT: Something like home gesture on the iPhone X

Clearly not what he's looking for. Currently there's no option to disable it altogether globally. Only option to hide it on a per app basis, which not all apps support.

I was looking for a way to completely disable it but I don't think it's possible without root. I enabled expended mode via ADB but my ultimate goal was to not make it appear when I scroll up from the bottom so I can use apps such as all in one gesture
There are some ways, but i guess they all need root. there is an xposed module : xposed edge pro, that can remove the navbar. or you can change the build.prop hw.mainkeys=1
i did that but the thing is when you completely remove the navbar every app that is not set to 18:9 scaling will not load. just give a black screen. that is not a problem as you can just switch all apps to 18:9 scaling in settings. except some few system dialogs that will not show anymore like the longpress menu when e.g. clicking on a link in chrome or on a message to copy it.
iv been on that issue for a long time now. it is definitely related with completely removing the navbar as the system then does not scale some screens accordingly anymore.
i tried the build.prop, whereas there are more settings related with the screen and ratio (ro.lge.app_scaling=1) (ro.lge.aspect.ratio=18:9) and (qemu.hw.mainkeys=1) i dont know what the first two settings really do but i tried different settings
then there is the possibility via the xposed edge app, which does not change the build.prop. so it hast to change it in some other way, i dont know.
and i found a thread to change scaling via the service menu *#546368#*930# -svc menu -force long display mode -on from this thread.
ive tried all different settings combined in different ways and was not able to remove the navbar without that problem.
if anybody has more knowledge i would be glad to have some help
cheers DK

Agreed. I had an issue with the nav bar NOT appearing when I wanted. It kept disappearing in my corporate email and I had to force it up from the bottom to appear. I was puzzled, why is this happening only with this app? I finally figured out how to go into the nav bar settings and disable that for that app. For some reason that app (called Nine) was enabled to hide the nav bar.
I have the opposite problem. Except for when I'm watching videos, I do want to see the nav bar. This screen is tall enough that I don't need a totally "immersive" experience just reading email or looking at news articles.
And I use Nova launcher, of course. Who uses stock launcher?

Nobody. Except launchers still have nothing to do with what OP was looking for. I switch between Nova and action launcher and would recommend them to anyone not using as well, just baffled that he asked how to disable navbar entirely and the answer was install Nova...followed by the assertion that he needs to be told this even though its not what he asked and there was nothing to suggest he's not already using a 3rd party launcher

I found how to hide the nav bar for specific apps months ago (and indeed have all of the available apps flicked to off), but I cannot find the universal switch anywhere. Where exactly is it?
Under Settings/Display/Home Touch Buttons, I only see three options: Button combination, Color, and Hide Home Touch Buttons.
The Hide Home Touch Buttons screen is the one I found months ago, but I don't see a universal switch there.
Thanks.

For me, when I go to Home Touch Buttons in settings and click "Hide Home Touch Buttons" it gives me a list for every app where I can toggle to hide the home buttons. There's also a toggle option at the top of this page that says "Lock/hide icon" -- that's the universal button.
Though this doesn't hide the home buttons on the home screen for me. Does it hide them on the home screen for anyone else? I can't figure out how to do that and my Nova launcher prime doesn't have the option.

Thought that was just the icon that shows up on the left-hand side of the nav bar when in an app where the nav bar can be hidden.
That's not a universal on/off switch for the nav bar system-wide, is it?

Question Gesture Navigation Bar/Pill/line whatever its called

Hi,
is there a way to get rid of the Navigation Line at the bottom of the Screen when using gesture mode? Asus unfortunatly doesnt give the option like Samsung for example to hide it.
im a noob and dont know if theme modification is a thing at all or if i must switch completely to a different OS

unfortunately it is not possible to remove the pill by making Asus native gestures work. What is possible is to remove the pill (using the entire screen) and use gestures from third-party applications. For me it is the best option. root is required

On March 31, Asus released an update (WW-33.0804.2060.113) that allows you to hide the navigation bar. There's a new learning curve when navigating with gestures without the navigation bar, and after a month like that, I don't miss the navigation bar.
