[GUIDE] Recover from an incomplete flash - Samsung Galaxy Star

Suppose you are flashing a firmware using the Odin Download mode, and when the flashing process is going on, there's a power cut, or the flashing process is stuck at a point and there is no progress in the process even after quite a few minutes. What to do then?
1. Be 100% sure that it has got stuck. Else dont try this,
2. If you are sure that it has got stuck, then disconnect phone from PC. Then take out and put the battery. As soon as you do that, you will see that a message saying something about firmware upgarde error and will ask you to go to recovery mode in kies, and it will flash automatically. This situation is called emergency mode.
3. Now hold Volume Down + Home + Power Button for 10-15 seconds, and you will be in regular download mode.
4. Now follow the general firmware flashing steps you were following earlier, and it should do the job this time.
In my case, I was using Samsung Galaxy Star GT-S5282. This method should work for any android based Samsung phones.

It not emergency mode but download mode itself
and reason of stuckup is most probably wrong firmware
As long as there is no bar(installation bar) u can safely remove the battery

What I meant is, if the flashing process had started ant then stuck (probably at system.img in PC Odin), then the above method would come in handy.

[Q] Possible brick

Phone charged up overnight, and after half an hour of listening to music, I noticed the battery had fallen to around 30%. I then rebooted the phone, but it did not boot up. Cannot seem to enter any recovery/download mode.
Rooted running the Omega ROM. Haven't done any modifications to it for a good couple of weeks. Any chance of salvation?
maybe the battery gone bad? did u try with other battery?
Maybe, but I forgot to mention i somehow entered emergency recovery mode earlier (once) which would suggest its not? How do you enter that mode?
i've heard of that emergency recovery mode, but never actually seen it or know exactly howto trigger it. try vol up+vol down+home+power
Thanks that worked.
Now in 'emergency dload mode (arm9 mode)'
Where do I go from here?
so hows that recovery looks like? got any menu selection like normal recovery such as wipe data etc? if got, try to wipe data.
Nope not like a recovery mode. All it is is the Samsung logo with the 'emergency dload mode' text...
frankly we all here doesnt know exactly what the purpose of that emergency recovery mode.
try to connect your phone with odin and see its detected. maybe u can flash stock rom from it.
if it doesnt work either, u can try to force the device into normal download mode and flash with odin. first take off the battery, wait for around 5 seconds, hold the three button combination for download mode and while u still hold those three buttons, reinsert the battery. it should go into download mode and u can flash stock rom via odin.
Thanks for help. Will give it a go, and let you know the results....
If it treat it like a normal download mode, am I right in thinking I just follow the normal procedure for flashing via ODIN?
Ie, follow this tutorial: http://acetips.wordpress.com/2011/09/28/upgrade-ace-odin/

Does anyone knows where to buy a motherboard for gt n7000
Got drives and firmware downloaded. But ODIN won't recognise my phone? Any suggestions?
Odin won't flash phones that in Emergency download mode.
Have you tried normal download mode?
P.S: Emergency Dload mode = Vol Up + Vol Down + Menu + Power
Nomal dload mode: Vol Down + menu + power

Thanks for everyones help.
Managed to get it to the 'downloading' text, where I eventually managed to flash a stock ROM via ODIN, so I'm now unrooted.
Problem still remains where it won't boot up without being plugged into a power source, so taking it back tomorrow. I believe the battery somehow died and may have taken something else down with it...

Stock UK SGS2 bricked by Kies update - help

I have a standard unlocked UK SGS2.
It has been running ICS since its official Samsung update, and for the past week or so has been displaying a "firmware update available" message.
Today I tried to run the update via Kies. The update hung with the SGS2 displaying the "downloading - do not disconnect target" screen. Eventually, Kies displayed a message that the download had failed, and the phone should be disconnected and rebooted.
Rebooting the phone has given the "handset-exclamation mark - PC" screen.
I have so far tried:
a) following Kies instructions to the letter;
b) switching USB ports on the PC (running Win 7 pro 64);
c) trying the "hold volume up&down + on/off buttons; at second flash release power button", etc;
Nothing has worked and the phone appears bricked.
How can I resolve this. It must be a common problem, given the millions of these handsets out there. Unfortunately i am currently overseas and in the middle of a desert - so not able to go to a Samsung service centre to get help!
Download UK unbranded firmware from here <http://www.hotfile.com/dl/153177481/9861a3a/I9100XWLP7_I9100XEULP5_XEU.zip.html>. Extract using Winzip. You will get a Tar.md5 file.
Download Odin from here <http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=725858&d=1316556218>
Completely shutdown Kies via the Task Manager.
Completely Shut Down Phone. Now hold volume down+home+power buttons, You should see a warning asking you to press volume up if you want to continue or volume down to cancel, press volume up. You are now in download mode
Connect your phone to your pc via cable. Fire up Odin. The box below ID:COM will be yellow.
Click on PDA and select the .tar.md5 file extracted in first step.
Click Start. Let Finish. Do not disconnect wire until you see 'Pass'.
If phone bootloops, shut down phone. Now hold volume Up+Home+Power buttons. Do a Factory Reset. Restart.
Let know if this works.
Go to samsung and tell them what happened and they should fix it under warranty
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium
If I helped you press thanks!
I knew the kies is not the proper way to update the latest firmware and always giving a problem! When the downloading firmware on kies are almost finish there is always an error such as " hang" or " internet disconnected " ! The smarter way is to use odin3 :good:
Its not a major issue, this isnt a brick, its a softbrick, big difference, just means ya flash failed, could be a million reasons for that,
AS DESCRIBED above, this is a simple fix by downloading and flashing the appropriate stock firmware for your phone via odin again in download mode.
your phone will go to download mode so dont worry about that, if it hasnt gone to dl mode when attempted, pull the battery, leave it out 10 mins, put it back in and try again, failing that a usb jig will suffice, see post on who and where will share their jig if you dont have one, there may be someone near you.
CAUTION, dont try flashing any of the latest leaks on your phone, just choose whatever the last stock release was by your carrier on samfirmware, and flash that as that will be your latest firmware.
I never use kies to update, simply use ota, or download the rom and flash it, kies is very unreliable, this is where HTC and SE beat samsung, the download and recovery methods are so much simpler and they work.

[Q] Samsung S2 ICS rom suddenly stuck on load screen.

Please please please could anyone help!
About a month ago I upgraded to Ice cream sandwich (LP7) and then rooted my S2. All worked fine for 3 or 4 days and then suddenly it crashed for no reason. I suspect, but am not sure, that it did an automatic update. On rebooting it just stops at the Samsung S2 screen with a yellow triangle.
For the last few weeks i have been trying to find a fix, but am at my wits end now.
I have gone through the different solutions on your site but to no avail also where mine seems to be different is that I can get into boot mode and odin always says its successful. I have tried different pc and usb cable too just in case that was an issue
I can not get into Volume up mode, but i can get into boot mode with volume down. I have tried re loading a few different rom's and Odin says that the transfer was successful each time, however it is still stuck at the same place on reboot.
Tried reloading kernel and re partitioning, and again Odin said it went OK, but still stuck on start screen.
Tried using a jig and turned phone on, but it the phone just went to the start screen again.
If i could just get into reset mode, i could clear the memory, but this is not working either.
If anyone could help i would be very so grateful.
Thanks
Terry

Try this I did and it worked to get mine booting after a bad update.
I messed around with it using several methods of getting it to boot into download mode until I finally got it to do it. I think I left it plugged into the USB, powered it down until I saw the charging screen, then I proceeded to play with the different ways to hold the buttons to get it to download mode. If you are persistent enough and read a little on booting methods to get bricked phone into download mode you will succed if not then your not for the world of trial and error... the main thing is do the first steps I said before until it works
1. Get into Download Mode (WITH THE PHONE PLUGGED IN) by following the steps below
*Turn off the phone until you get to the charging battery screen (keep in mind, your phone is currently PLUGGED IN)
*Press volume up and down, and power all at once.
*As soon as the screen turns black, release your power button.
2. Unplug phone from USB
or try
2. Remove everything from your phone (SD card, sim, battery).
3. Plug your phone into your computer WITHOUT the battery, as you have already taken it out in the last step.
4. Press and HOLD vol. up and vol. down.
5. As you are HOLDING these buttons, reattach your battery.
6. You should be in Download Mode.
7. Unplug phone from USB
any how try try try until it works
Once in download mode
Get your files together for your phone, and use Odin 1.85.
Plug into Odin and make sure it shows yellow and its added!
1. Now if your files have like 3 files and the exact .pit file for your phone if available.
I found mine here (Find yous stock firmware for your phone)
2. Click the PIT button and browse to your exact .pit file for your phone *It should now have added a check in the re-partition box under the options area of the Odin window. If not CHECK IT!
***If you don't have your .pit don't worry about this unless you suspect, or have a bad partition
3. If you have just 1 file just click the PDA button and load the file. If you have 3 then you will load the PDA file in PDA, the Modem file into PHONE, and the CSC file into CSC, there are way too many phones to link all the files so get you stuff together!
4. Now hit start.
5. When done and the phone shows the first sign of starting up IE Logo or whatever... immediately unplug the battery from the phone to shut it down.
6. Now put it back in and start it in Upload mode by pressing Vol Up, Home at the same time then the Power button.
7. As soon as the phone shows the first sign of starting up IE Logo or whatever let go of all buttons and using the Vol Up down Choose the Clear Cache option and go through and make sure you factory reset it if you can just for good measure.
8. Reboot
9. Now when the phone shows the first sign of starting up IE Logo or whatever take out battery again to power off
10. Now put it back in and start it in Download mode by pressing Vol Down, Home at the same time then the Power button.
11. Once in download mode Hook up to Odin again and flash it with a root kernel for your phone. Do not ask me just find it. I did it took time but I got all the files together over several days of reading and collecting the correct ones.
12. When done and the phone shows the first sign of starting up IE Logo or whatever... immediately unplug the battery from the phone to shut it down.
13. Now put it back in and start it in Upload mode by pressing Vol Up, Home at the same time then the Power button.
14. In most roots you will now have a advanced or mounting options and more options to use.
15. I cleared the Cache again, Cleared the Davilik Cache, Went into a option and actually mounted the cache formatted the Cache.
16. Use the option now to restart the phone...
And mine started up installed the apps and I am up and running, nice and smooth and no issues so far
I hope this helps out someone whos just about to go off the deep end, as I was there and patience and trial and error came up with this step by step way to recover mine. Thank me by hitting the little thumbs up THANKS button below this post.
And if your so happy your phone is up show your appreciation by buying me a Pepsi

You have a galaxy s ii alright, what model? I9100?
So let me get this straight, you flashed via odin and the phone rebooted in CMW?
That would mean you didn't flash a thing.
Have you followed any flashing guide?

you flashed via odin by putting your device in download mode right?
did it restart after flashing the firmware? did you see result in the odin window?
if you can attach screenshot of the odin window it might help to understand the issue.
after flashing I9100XWLS8_I9100FOPLS3_FOP via odin, device should restart. first time it takes time. if you are stuck in samsung logo go in to recovery mode and do factory reset then restart the device. it should be fine.

Did you even read about what those links are meant for?
One is for flashing ICS, the other is for getting back to stock firmware, and the last one is for getting out of a soft-brick.
REBOOT into Download Mode (Home + Power + Vol. Down)
PLUG your device in your PC.
KILL all KIES process working on the background (If you don't have Kies, install it and then close it all up)
OPEN ODIN and select the JB LS8 tar file on PDA and press start.
When it says "pass", phone will reboot itself.

Where it says RESET it should say PASS.

Try another odin version too.

dont panic, remove the battery and put it back, dont power on. charge it for minimum 30 mins. then try to reflash the firmware using correct odin. after flashing you should have stock recovery. go in to stock recovery do factory reset and then restart the phone.

When Odin shows "Pass" the device should reboot itself and go straight to android, not recovery.

Tab S6 stuck in bootloop, can't get to recovery mode

My Tab S6 tried to auto-install an update yesterday (it is rarely connected to Wifi/internet). It then rebooted. Since then, it's been stuck in a boot loop.
It will display the "Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 | Secured By Knox" logo screen for a few seconds, then switch to the blue "Installing System Update" screen (with the android logo). Installing System Update gets to 28% and stops. Then the rotating icon on the android freezes. Then the device reboots and starts all over again.
Edit: the tablet is 100% stock. It's not been rooted or had any custom ROMs loaded.
I have tried getting to recovery mode, by holding power+volup while it boots. This doesn't seem to change the behavior at all. Any advice is much appreciated.

can you shut it down? try volume down and power button ? if it don't shut down, do this soon as it reboots, hold volume up and down and plug in usb cable to desktop/laptop usb port! it will boot into download mode!

I can't actually shut it down. If I start holding power+voldown right after it boots, the tablet does reboot before getting stuck at 28%. But it reboots--it doesn't power off.
I tried download mode and that actually seemed to work! Specifically, I left the tablet overnight in the reboot loop until the battery drained. Just now, I held down volup+voldown and plugged it into my laptop. I got the green "Warning/Custom OS" screen and then pressed volup to continue. The tablet rebooted pretty quickly after that (I'm guessing due to low battery) so I didn't get a good look at the download mode options.
Once I'm in download mode, can I factory reset the tablet? I don't need to preserve any data/apps/settings.

You cannot reset the tablet from Download mode afaik- You need to enter Recovery Mode to do that.
You can however, flash stock from Download mode using Odin (3.13.3 is best). If you're not confident with doing that, your best option is Factory Reset in Recovery Mode. Hold Volume Up and Power when the Tablet is booting, let go when you see the Samsung logo. The timing can be tricky, but you should be able to do it. Also, you can force a reboot with Volume Down and Power.
Alternatively, if factory reset doesn't work, since you're completely stock, you will still be covered under warrenty.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried this many many times. I've tried letting go of the buttons at different times. I've tried holding volup while letting go of power. I've tried this a ton of different ways, and no matter what, the tablet always shows the "Installing system update" screen. Some googling has led me to believe that sometimes, when performing a factory reset, the "Installing system update" screen shows up right before the normal recovery screen. Is it possible that the tablet is trying to get to recovery mode, but can't get past this first step?

Honestly, I don't know - I'm not an expert but I guess it's possible that the update failed and corrupted both System and Recovery.
You'll be covered under warrenty, so maybe just return the Tablet from where you purchased or direct to Samsung, could take a while given the current situation though I guess. If you have a PC, then I think the best option would be to just flash stock yourself, since that's probably all Samsung will do. Even if that doesn't work you'd still be covered under warrenty, as far as I'm aware attempting to flash stock doesn't trip Knox.

Despair not...I have just come from resolving this exact situation not 30 minutes ago. I'd been trying to flash (using Odin as I decided to stay on Stock and not root this device, for a change) the latest OneUI2.1 releases for my device (SM-T865 - LTE version) and boom in the middle of the Odin update, the flash just failed...I then couldn't reboot and get into neither Recovery, nor Download Mode because it appears my bootloader and recovery both got corrupted.
Here's what you need....
1. Odin app for PC (am on Windows)
2. Your device's Stock firmware (sammobile firmware archive)
3. You will need someone to help you boot the device directly into Download mode (and this is the tricky part because for most of us we are used to get into Bootloader by using the key combination (from Powered Off device) Vol+ and Power On at the same time to get into stock recovery and then scrolling down to option 2 in this menu, "Reboot to Bootloader". Well now you are going to boot directly into Bootloader mode. Here's how you do it...
4. Get your friend to line up the USB-C cable into the port of the device, but DO NOT press it in...yet
5. Press Power off and Vol- buttons at the same time to turn off the device
6. And now you have to to be super fast: if device starts to turn on on its own, YOU press and hold Vol+ and Vol- both at the same time while YOUR FRIEND pushes the USB cable fully into the port - you should now have booted directly into Download mode. (if not repeat this, and remember to be super fast and sync with your friend pushing in the USB cable)...
7. When you get into Download mode, then you are home and dry...
8. Select ONLY the Bootloader file (BL...XX...) in Odin, make sure only "reset time" and "reboot" are ticked, and flash
9. When device reboots, press Vol+ and Power combo to get back into Bootloader mode again...but I think device will reboot into Download mode on its own
10. Now select all the files from your Stock file into the various tabs (BL, CP, CSC, AP...) do not select HOME_CSC as we want to flush this device clean...
11. Flash, and voila...success - you will have lost all your data but rather that than losing the device...
12. Feedback here and let us know if this works? For reference for others in the future...
FYI, I got in this situation, and the previous post did work for me, just takes good timing! Thanks!!!!
Same issue today for me. My tablet showed different screen with green and red text, it allowed me to delete app data, then booted into safe mode, then i had to do factory reset and now i am screwed, as it is refusing to restore any apps and their settings. I will try to flash it back to Android 9, maybe then it will do the restore. I forgot to do any manual backup to SD or so.
Edit: the device upgraded to 10, but reset itself after about 10 minutes of use.
Edit2: i found what caused it. It is caused by Nova Launcher, if i try to set wallpaper.
Just found a news article that there is a RGB/sRGB problem with wallpapers. It might be the problem i had.
I am adding a screenshot of the result.
Yeah, I had that kind of reboot loop from a wallpaper that I downloaded

Hi,
Really need your help, after I updated my firmware using Odin, updated BL, AP, CP, CSC, my tab cannot boot up stuck in logo. Doing the Power + volume up leads me to different screen now. I cannot access recovery mode or download page anymore,
What must I do? Pleasssee help. Added the pic, after doing hard reset (power + vol up)
I cannot connect back to Odin also. Always setup connection failed.
Please help. Really messed up big time
Just a thought... Can this be restored from service center?
Thank you in advance.
I have the same problem with a Tab S6 Lite, it is in bootloop and does not let me enter the recovery mode, I can go into download mode and I flashed the latest original firmware Android11, Android10 etc., . I tried them all but always goes in bootloop, and also the bootloop occurs only if I connect the usb cable to the PC, without any sign of life. Do I still have hopes or have I compromised the motherboard?
The reason for all this is because I had followed a guide to give root permissions with magisk, I did everything right, only that the guide was with Android10, while I had Android11 and I was deceived by the fact that in the title of the guide there was written "guide 2021"
, so I did not check the compatibility of operating systems, I was a fool, I know, I hope so much that I did nothing irretrievable, it's my son's tablet!

Download the android 11 last rooted rom from there. You install it with odin as as a normal original rom.
Disable in odin auto reboot. After rom install, restart manually and press the correct buttons immediately to boot in Twrp and not to system. Format (not wipe) data from there and reboot to system. If you are lucky it will work..
(I hope you unlocked bootloader before try to root. If you haven't unlocked bootloader this won't work also).

Wiping cache partition in Recovery and reflashing the firmware are basically your only 2 options

Flash in odin the same rom you had. There are 2 csc files in rom, which you use 1 in odin one. Try use the "home csc". Home csc keep KEEPS your data. If you're lucky it may work. (It would work in keeping your data 100% if your rom was ok. Because it isn't you have some changes to work.).
You must try with same rom or newer.
CSC – If you flash the CSC file, it’ll perform a factory reset of your Galaxy device and wipe all data while installing a new firmware to bring your device to the same state as it was when you purchased it. Go with CSC if you want a clean installation.
HOME_CSC – On the other hand, if you want to keep your Samsung phone’s data and settings even flashing the stock firmware, you can select the HOME_CSC file.
