Hey guys,
Do any of you know how I can place my rom, and push it as an OTA Update like Sprint. What files do I need to accomplish this? I have already looked at OTA update center and its great, I would just like to push them without my people having to root. I have a server set up, just don't know how to have everything point to the right place. I'm familiar with the boot_delta.bin and android_delta.bin files along with others needed for an OTA Update. Also, i know you have to edit things in the build.prop as well. I hope someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks
I want it too, I think it's a great idea.
You wan't to add it to your custom rom which is not even rooted? WHAT???

My custom rom is rooted, but I am wanting people who get the device from a specific company to not have to go through the rooting process and just push my Rom OTA to their device using a server just like Sprint does. Hope this makes some sense, thanks

Not possible....the way sprint or other carriers are able to do it is because they pass the security/verification checks...unless you can figure out an exploit/hack its not possible
Basically you would need to figure out how to first root the phone, and then get a custom recovery...there have been some apps in the past that can achieve root...but most phones have those patched by now...so it definitely is possible, just not probable

You can take a look at goo.im the users will still have to have a custom recovery to flash the ROM

Thanks, I already have a custom recovery I have made, I just wanted to try to push my custom roms with an OTA without having people need root or a recovery. Just like Sprint and Verizon. Thanks

Well, with a custom recovery it IS possible without root.
What you also could do is make an app who's exploiting a bug in the Android system to gain root. Do this with the permission of your users. If you execute the exploit, you have a root prompt, you could fetch the device name, and download a suitable recovery for it. Let the user confirm this, and download it.
I recommend to wrap it in a nice UI, like this.
- Get root
- Fetch recovery (menu to choose device)
- Flash recovery
From there, you CAN execute your OTA updater app. Note this only works on devices where all partitions are writable with root. For example my phone's (i9300) recovery partition is writable with root.
Hope this helps,

Very cool, you come up with that idea all by yourself? Reguardless, there is user intervention required. Whether it be for the custom recovery, bootloader unlock, root. Nothing, when it comes to this comes that easy. ****, even the Nexus phones you need to reboot into the bootloader, no app from the device can do it all sorry.
Need help so lost try to make it as short as possible.
Phone Info:
- Samsung Galaxy S4 Verizon
- Model SCH-I545
- Build JSS15J.I545VRUEMK2
- Android 4.3
Ok, I tried Rooting my Phone and I use the Soft Root that was linked by someone on the forums. Gave me SuperUser Icon and used a app that checks to see if its Rooted and said it was. Now tried using some Root app's like GameCih and it tells me I need Root Admin or Root Privileges, something to that nature, and cant use the app. Iv been trying to remove that Soft Root but cant Figure it out. Used Odin3 and redid that .tar file for my Build. All when good and got everything the same as a fresh phone, but booting up still has the Pad Lock Icon and Custom logo on it and SuperU Icon. So I cant seem to unroot it, Tried to use the I545ALL-IN-ONE-TOOL posted on these forums but cant get it to working.
So what I need so to get this unrooted and back to factory default, and Rooted the right way, with I545ALL-IN-ONE-TOOL??. Please Help

Did you flash the no wipe tar?...if so use the full wipe tar file...you will lose your app data but it will restore to 100% full unrooted mdk...the all in one will work after that

That is what I used is the Saferoot, wasnt sure of the name, but just looked it up and thats what i have on my pc. Also I dont know how to flash it.. do I use the same Odin3 program for that? or is there another method.(Also is the Full wipe a different tar file?)
Edit: Ok I got it Flashed and back to stock now is there anything other then SafeRoot? that did not work the first time I tried it.

There are a few other methods...but I don't know them...I do know the other methods safety and security was questionable... Hence saferoot was made by trusted devs here...it should work...all the posts I have seen said they got successful root...did you open the supersu app that was installed and allow it to update binaries?... That is a very important step...if you did then make sure if you try this method again you follow each step it tells you...I don't know exactly how the process goes as I'm on4.2.2 and have to use the all in one tool for root...good luck...if it doesn't work hopefully someone who can help will chime in

Nope, I have no idea what these applications do, but a quick search on the forums basically leads to the conclusion that they're not ready for 4.3.
Given the build you're running, you're stuck with SELinux Enforcing since you can't replace the kernel. You'll need to find something else to do whatever you're trying to do.

there are plenty of threads...here is one that all S4 owners should look at first....surprise u didn't see it, its a sticky

@Chainfire has released his CF-Auto-Root for the SM-G900T (T-Mobile US) Galaxy S 5.
I take no credit whatsoever for this, just posting a link to his main thread for all to see.
Please go and thank Chainfire!
With this root accomplished, we can confirm that the T-Mobile bootloader is UNLOCKED.
ROMS/Kernels/Recovery will soon follow from our awesome devs here on XDA.
Link to CF-Auto-Root Main Thread(Multi-variants)
THIS WILL TRIP KNOX COUNTER TO 0x1
ODIN Instructions - Copied from Main CF thread
Follow these instructions to the letter. Do not touch any buttons or checkboxes that are not listed below to touch!
- Download and unzip the CF-Auto-Root-....zip file (see posts below this one)
- If you end up with a recovery.img and cache.img file, you've extracted twice. You need to end up with a .tar.md5 file - don't extract that one
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start Odin3-vX.X.exe
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Auto-Root-....tar.md5
- Put your phone in download mode (turn off phone, then hold VolDown+Home+Power to boot - if it asks you to press a button to continue, press the listed button, or run adb reboot download command)
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure Repartition is NOT checked
- Click the Start button
- Wait for Android to boot
- Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)
NOTE: Sometimes the device does *not* boot into recovery mode and root your device. Just do the entire procedure again if this happens. If it still will not install root and such, make sure that in Odin "Auto Reboot" is not checked. Then after flashing, pull the battery, and boot with VolUp+Home+Power button to boot into recovery manually. This will start the install process.
New to Samsung? Unfamiliar with Odin? Think all the above is a hassle? Get used to it. It's very simple, and us Samsung folk use Odin (or Mobile ODIN ) for everything! It's so very very convenient once you get used to it. Notice the 30 second comment above? For experienced users, the entire process indeed takes only 30 seconds!

You can run the auto-root on both the updated version from kies, or straight outta the box.
I am trying to get in touch with the developers about TWRP and CWM, but I am sure they are busy trying to get all variants working.
I wouldn't Odin the international TWRP or CWM though. I would wait for a version for us.

There basically won't be a way of resetting Knox.
Because of it being more a hardware flag, once it is tripped it is not reversible.
There might eventually be a way to do it without tripping it, but I wouldn't expect that for a while.

Yes, though root has nothing to do with this. The bootloader is unlocked, which is why root was obtainable via Chainfire's custom recovery. We have no restrictions on flashing custom ROMs/kernels/recoveries/etc.
I may start working on a custom TW kernel myself once Samsung uploads the source...

Tmo warranty
Hi,
I'm debating if I should upgrade to SGS5, now that we can root the phone.
Does anyone knows for sure that a tripped Knox means no warranty with T-mo? I'm under the Jump plan and the idea is that I will be able to have warranty on the device if something happens to it (and I do have some apps that must use root...)
Thanks,
Gil.

Are we 100% certain that the bootloader is indeed unlocked. I know that chainfire stated this (although he currently doesnt own the s5).
I just came from HTC, and it states when you boot whether the bootloader is locked or unlocked. Im assuming there is no simple way of knowing whether the bootloader is locked or unlocked like the HTC devices

There are reliable sources saying yes it is unlocked and there are reliable sources saying no it still hasn't been confirmed until someone successfully flashes a custom rom/kernel/recovery.
The consensus around here seems to be that it is unlocked but its just people repeating the words of the original few that debated it. And of course since we all want it to be unlocked, it is easier to believe that it is.
I personally don't want to jump to conclusion so i want there to be more discussion on the matter. Therefore i requested the "boot loader un/locked" thread to be reopened in Q/A.
i want to walk down to the store and buy one right now but until its confirmed im waiting it out. $650 bet!
The user lordazoroth originally posted this method here in the T-Mobile SGSIII forum. However, I have confirmed that it works with the Note 3 (at least with the Verizon variant) with one small difference. Feel free to give us both a "THANKS" if this helped you out.
You can disable the OTA Update notification by following the steps below. Just be aware that there is a small change in STEP #3.
Solution:
Step 1. Delete the update located in /cache/fota/ (may be /data/fota) and then click the update notification prompt to install it, it will instantly fail and the notification will disappear. (My phone rebooted and tried to install the update - this is the point where my Note 3 gave the update failed notification. I just rebooted the phone and went to STEP #2.)
Step 2. Disable otacerts.zip located in /etc/security by renaming it to otacerts.zip.bak
Step 3. Disable FotaClient.apk and FWUpgrade.apk by renaming with .bak extensions located in /system/app/
Step 4. Reboot
(NOTE: The difference in STEP #3 for the Galaxy Note 3 is that the [FotaClient.apk] is named [LocalFotaClient.apk] instead of just [FotaClient.apk]. All of the other steps are the same.
Continue running JB 4.3 and enjoy your Note 3 without that nagging update notification!
But the kitkat update is awesome... so you might want to reconsider doing this

I got the annoying OTA update today... I DON'T WANT TO UPDATE!!! Why can't they give us an option instead of forcing it down our throats?
Is there any way to disable the update WITHOUT ROOTING? I read everywhere you need ROOT ACCESS to delete the SDM.apk FILE and such. I can't delete it without root.
How can I get rid of the annoying update WITHOUT ROOTING or what is the easiest way to gain root without wiping out everything and starting over?
As of this morning...Verizon seems to be trying to "ram the update" onto your note 3
I was rooted and safestrapped on MJE and when I unplugged my phone from the charger this morning...I had a notice that the update failed to install.
I had previously downloaded, but removed the download.

No way of knowing how far it got. If it was able to get the bootloader nailed in...yes. Screwed. Welcome to kk. If not, whatever you do will wipe at this point.
Safest bet to try and see if you can retain jb is with odin...if it lets you. If it does, great. If it doesn't, you still need odin because you just interrupted a firmware update and probably just soft bricked your phone. So you'll need odin to put kk on your phone.
--
If niether of these things look good, they aren't. So try this first. Try booting to recovery. If you can, it's possible you just saved yourself from learning to use odin. Do a factory reset and reboot. See if it boots to jb. If it does, root asap. If not (it just hangs forever or loops), you're bricked. Try to odin jb. If it keeps failing, you're stuck with kk and you need to odin kk.
If you can't get to recovery and just hangs or loops, odin jb or kk. Whichever it lets you.
If it doesn't let you boot to recovery because it continues to upgrade, at this point let it. This is the ONLY possible scenario that you will keep anything.
Mind you, everything I just covered will never touch any files on external sd memory.
This is a lot to process. So take your time. Good luck!

GRRR it installed Kitkat successfully. I'm SO MAD.. I should have set the annoying OTA notification for a different time so that it wouldn't constantly pop up every second... I would have been home free rooted on Jellybean if it weren't for the STUPID UPDATE.
So can I still DOWNGRADE to Jellybean and be rooted? or did Verizon LOCK or restrict stuff with the update? Can I go back to Jellybean keeping all my files?

I read that too... I can't believe one simple tap mistake ruined my whole first time rooting adventure... Using KINGO was so easy and right when I WAS ABOUT TO DELETE THE STUPID SDM file in the system folder, the update popup came up and accidentally hit the UPDATE And it just rebooted instantly!! I hate how they don't even allow you to cancel or anything... like totally forcing it in your face!!
I still have SuperSU but no longer functions it says "There isn o SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem! If you just upgraded to Android 4.3, you need to manually re-root - consult the relevant forums for your device!"
So there's no way to have root access now?? I can't flash back to Jellybean??? Verizon/Samsung really screwed us here. There must be a way to have root access in Jellybean... I don't care for custom roms... I just want root access!!

AH EVIL VERIZON... freaking Verizon...
There seriously is no way to flash back to Jellybean and be rooted??? or be rooted in Kitkat?? This is SO RIDICULOUS..
I'm at least glad FoxFi fixed a way to still work with KitKat... if they didn't, I'd be really pissed to have no hotspot and stuck with KitKat... screw you VERIZON.

As it has been warned now many, many, many times.... There is NO GOING BACK if you take the NC4 update. Also, as of now, there also NO root method for it. You're stuck on it.

So it would be pointless for me to try to use Odin to flash back to stock Jellybean and then KINGO? It won't even flash back?
I did successfully root before OTA installed Kitkat on mine... does that make any difference?

Unfortunately no. Once you have nc4 loaded you cannot go backwards.

bummer
It looks like there's a minor update available for the VZW LG G2, VS98025B. I just got the OTA notification on my phone.

Ditto here, just finished the update.
getting error 0x1117008 after the update fails. Only rooted but otherwise still on stock. Any other option than doing a full restore?

Stock with root (no custom recovery) updated without any issues, maintained root.

Who could be upgrade via VZW Software Upgrade assist program on PC?
Actually i'm business trip on Japan. When I tried software update, I won't update by "This phone is already up to date" popup.
Also seems FOTA not support outside US

*Update #1
I could be found 25B kdz file is not uploaded on LG CSMG server. Still 24A binary exist here.
http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/web_model_list.jsp?country=US
<model>LGVS980</model>
<swversion>VS98024A_11</swversion>
<buyer>VRZ</buyer>
Wait a 25B stock KDZ upload on CSMG server!!
I took the VS98025B update from a Stock VS98024A Rooted G2. I have SuperSU with survival mode checked. I kept root, and was able to make the hotspot work by pulling the modded hotspotprovision.apk and it's odex file from a 25A rom that had it modded.
Update: The hotspot mod has been posted in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55403859&postcount=300

I'm getting the same error.
I thought it was my xposed mods, but after removing all of them it still gives me the same error. I'm just running stock rooted.
Woops

I never rooted or anything. I sent a help email to LG they said send the phone in. I was thinking about flashing to stock and trying to start over. Not even sure if it would help. Basically I think I have to root my phone to fix it lol, stupid.
Getting 0x1117008 error when I try to update, I don't think I've uninstalled any bloat, as far as I know the only things are xposed and root.. Just uninstalled xposed.. Still errors. Any ideas? I don't think there are any disabled apps

Make sure to open Xposed and remove the framework. I pretty sure just uninstalling the app won't remove the files.

Sorry I wasn't more clear, that is what I did, and reboot, but left the xposed app and wake lock terminator installed..
Not sure what might be missing

Has anyone successfully upgraded using the vzw pc software? I get an error trying to install OTA. I must have uninstalled some bloat that Verizon considered crucial to have.
