Hello all
After the recent nightly builds following the last monthly update (4.4.2 KK) I keep facing an annoying problem. The device keeps on getting unresponsive especially when I try to drop down the notifications panel. Then the device gets locked, sometimes changing the background and clears all open apps from the cache, where opening the app already was opened will have the app launched as if it was closed and not already in the background.
Besides, the device can make a soft reboot (showing CM logo and reloads the system without doing a full reboot).
Any idea what the problem could be? Any solutions suggested outside doing a full wipe?
Thank you very much!

It must be a newly introduced bug, though on my nook I just wait till it fixes itself and un-freezes - there's none of the other stuff you mention. Course I have a recovery backup where it sounds like you don't. Save you a lot of pain to make recovery backup before flashing updates.
I'm still trying stuff to see if there's a workaround, but probably need to wait for it to be fixed.
My only problem is still the camera (google camera) after taking some photos (2-10) it freez and i got can't connect camera errors, only restart mobile is solution.

Hi all. New to the forums...watched the degrading vid before signing up even and am somewhat newby with phones. I've scoured this site, the motorola support site...which is apparently down til next week now...and a few other sites I came across via pages of google searching. I cannot find the answer other than doing a factory reset...which I really do not want to do as I have a LOT of apps and info of my phone. It should all be backed up via motoblur and the lookout app's backup. But I have months worth of scheduling info in there which will take me more hours to reenter...I reeeeeally don't want to if I don't have to.
Problem: My Atrix 4g is caught in a bootloop. While this is a somewhat common problem, mine seems to be a little different. I'll point form details below and will greatly appreciate any help I get. If you need any more info, please let me know.
-caught in a boot loop. It boots regularly, but reboots about every 2 minutes. There is a good 30-45 seconds where I can access apps etc. However, I don't think that the phone completely finishes its boot cycle before rebooting.
-Occasionally...and I believe ONLY after I reboot via the down volume/power button method...the phone will stay on long enough to receive notifications from the web. Facebook notifications etc etc. Most of the time it doesn't.
-If I had to guess, it's trying to boot some app near the end of its boot cycle that it doesn't like. And I'm assuming it just doesn't like this app's latest update as I've never had this problem before.
-Prior to rebooting via volume/power button, I was getting an error message which I wrote down...and have since accidentally erased. It was something along the lines of "system process failed" and I then had the option of force close or wait.
-Every 3 seconds or so, my notification light flashes purple. It typically shows green during startup, red for notifications...I've never seen purple before.
-I downloaded almost every app I could over the last 10 days of 10, 10c apps from the market.
-I haven't opened most of the apps, and haven't had any problems with any apps that I have opened
-Most of my apps are set to auto-update. Therefore, I don't know which app update could be the problem...assuming this is the problem
-I'm in the process of removing my apps 1 at a time every 2 minutes or so...as I get a chance during the final stages of the phone's rebooting. So far, 10 apps in and no success. Only another 200 apps or so to go. ugh...
Any ideas? help? booze?
Thanks in advance.
How about wiping the cache and Dalvik cache? This will not affect or uninstall any of your apps or personal info.

Thanks for the advice and quick response. I don't seem to be able to clear the dalvik cache without rooting the phone...is this correct? Went thru the market for dalvik cache cleaning apps and they all require root. My phone isn't rooted.
ok if your not rooted does this mean your on a stock rom? is it possible one of these 200+ apps are a virus or malicious? root your phone use titanium backup to backup all your apps and factory reset or go try and get a replacement and keep your sd wich will have the backup
I had a boot loop problem too once. Turned out to be a defective SD card. removed it and it booted. It could not be read by any PC either so it was definitely dead.
I have read the threads of Prime owners that had a problem with random reboots. I was lucky that I hadn't had this problem. Actually the only issue I've had is that my GPS is completely dead. However, I notice that after the .14 update I am experiencing periodic reboots. Has anyone else (that didn't have a reboot problem before the recent update) notice a similar issue?? Thanks
My Tf prime was working fine on. 13 (but has random reboot on. 11)
after upgrade to. 14, Reboot issue comes back, so I downgarde to. 13 again....and it works great again

Make sure you do a cold boot after any firmware update. (hold vol down and power button). Ultimate solution is to do a factory reset. Especially if you experience problems. DO not install any apps. See what happens with factory. Then slowly install your apps from market and go from there.

I've tried the reset/cold boot (using the power/volume down option and also the reset below the SD card slot). Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how do I do a factory reset? I've seen reference to it, but can't find a "how to" anywhere. Thanks again.
nope, mines was fine on .11 then when i updated to .13 i have the reboot and sleep of death issue. .14 update did not cause any issues yet...so far so good

Go to settings, Backup and reset, Factory data reset. Note, this will erase all your data, and your apps, but, if you have your tablet set to backup your Google account, once you enter it again on the initial setup, all the apps will restore to the tablet (Minus saved games)
If you are rooted, you can take ths further with Titanium Backup, grabbing saved games and whatnot. Also note: If you have ANYTHING of value, any docs or pictures on the internal memory (Shows as "SD Card), back all that up to a Micro SD, or somewhere in the cloud with Box.net, Skydrive or DropBox.
Finally, if you have any apps that need deactivation on one device before activating on another, such as CoPilot - HAHA - (A navigation app, hahahahaha... sorry, the tears were rolling on that one) better deactivate BEFORE you wipe the tablet.

Nothing will work for a few of us with the new update .14. Doesn't matter what you do reboot will still happens.
here is a thread i created (for the op) is basically the same thing you are experiencing
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1503079
Actually you have a few options.

The options are few if you have persistent rebooting at .11, .13 or .14. But at least now you HAVE options. Thanks to the good folks who figured out how to downgrade FW, and apply any level that works best for you (though I am truly puzzled why suppossedly identical hardware experiences the wide variations of outcome on each sucesive update. We cannot blame software installations (except in a few cases, such as the guy who turned WeatherBug Updates off) since quite a few folks have done a Factory Data Reset, with no change)
Search for a link to the thread that shows how to apply whatever version is most stable on your particular tablet.

Tried the factory reset...it did the reset, but it was to ICS and the .14 update automatically. It also started downloading all my apps automatically. I did another factory reset, but this time didn't enter my google account, the apps didn't auto download, but the freeze/reboot is still happening and if anything...it's worse. My tablet is all but useless now.
I downloaded ver 9.4.2.14 and now have more reboot issuses than I had before. Would reboot 1-2 times a day now reboots 2-3 times in a 30min time span. How do you go back to ver 13 was better than.
sorry to hear that manly..
I was fine with .11 and the .13 gave me bad battery and .14 gives me constant reboots. I followed advice about doing a cold reboot and it made the freeze/reboot issue worse. So like you my Prime is almost useless. I'm going to try and save my pics and then may try a factory reset. Which IMO we should not have to do if the firmware was done correctly.
I do need to look for the post about rolling back of a firmware that works.
Like everyone else, the .14 update has horribly ruined my device. Typing 1 email, the device rebooted 3 times. This should be a bigger deal then this! Does anyone know of a more social place to voice these complaints?

Just been experimenting - browsing seems to trigger my reboots (tried Chrome, Boat and stock) as does the XDA app, but just watched a couple hours of YouTube and no reboots. Did see a couple of strobing artifacts in the upper left hand corner when browsing videos.

Hi,
I managed to reproduce my reboots quite consistently
Please follow this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572281&highlight=reboot
I have been facing reboots since my first version of firmware, can't recall which one.
But after 2 firmware updates, now .21, I'm facing more reboots than ever. Let's make ASUS fix this for good.

why have you resurrected 3+ threads with this exact same post? its not needed on all reboot threads. one is good enough.
reported for other posts to be deleted. this info is only needed in one. spamming all reboot threads with this won't solve problem any faster.
good info but dang, don't keep reposting it in all reboot threads spanning very old firmwares..lol
I don't mean to spam but to reach out to everyone who is facing reboots, but lazy to search properly. ASUS doesn't seem to take this seriously at all. I gave them the steps and was asked to contact the local support instead.
Do the math, after so many firmware revisions, still facing reboots.
Can you help try the steps and let me know if it reboots for you as well? Thank you.
I'm running the table version of CM10 and I have been for a while now without many problems. I rarely take any pictures but I needed to take one the other day and I ran into a problem. When I hit the camera button my screen went black and froze. The only way to do anything was to hold the power down and wait for a reboot. Next I tried to access the camera by selecting the application, same thing happened. Next I tried wiping the camera application data, which are somehow integrated into the gallery, and I got the same result when I tried to access the camera. Next I tried wiping the cashes by booting into TWRP, same problem.. Lastly, I tried restoring an older version of the gallery from a titanium backup. This worked one time but crashed and then does the same thing (black screen and freezes) like before.
Does anybody have an idea of what could be causing this or a solution? I have looked around in the forums but it seems like most people with the issue were either dirty flashing CM10 or not using a stable release. I flashed my CM10 from scratch and I'm not having any other issues, re flashing is really not much of an option at this time because I won't have the time until after the new year.
Please help me fix this issue so that I can take pictures of my new years eve..lol
Tried to find the answer to this, but I only seem to find threads with people having this error all the time or just rebooting if they are in a similar situation to fix it; I trying to get more info about it.
Right now I am running a CM11 nightly of KitKat 4.4.1 on a VZW Note II, however I have had this issue with other devices, carriers, Android versions, etc. so I have always assumed it is just the way Android works.
Basically if an app that is currently using the camera (Camera app, barcode scanner, etc) crashes or hangs and gets force-closed, opening any camera app after that seems to always give me either a "can't connect to camera" error or a black screen instead of the viewfinder. In these cases, a simple reboot fixes the issue and I can use the camera again, but this is inconvenient for two reasons:
1. A reboot on my phone takes 45-60 seconds, by which time whatever I wanted a picture of is usually gone or changed.
2. Rebooting means that any apps that don't save the data constantly but run in the background are restarted and I lose the progress. Mainly I am referring to Chrome incognito tabs, but also apps that don't save in-progress data such as puzzle games or video players.
With my limited knowledge of Linux and my slightly less limited knowledge of operating systems in general, I know that sometimes a temporary lock file is Created to prevent other apps/programs from modifying or accessing a file or program until the lock is released. Does that kind of situation apply here, such as a camera lock file being created when camera access is started and then not able to be released if the app crashes.? Also, if that does apply, would manually deleting the lock file or creating a script that does it for me when it is run allow access to the camera again without rebooting? And if that doesn't apply, is there any way to regain camera access without rebooting when this occurs?
Thanks in advance,
Opalelement
apk to restart camera without rebooting phone

Same problem with my Jiayu G4T (4.2.1). The app was able to recover the camera successfully! Many thanks!
Hey there,
I have had this bug since I first officially updated MIUI when I got this phone (ie. first day). Right now I am running MIUI 9 Global Stable 9.0.3.0 (also updated through OTA) which I believed would fix these issues which started occurring since MIUI 8 .
I have tried factory reset (yesterday), without any success (Happened today morning).
It's not exactly reproducible manually, however it happens every morning (which is even more weird) or at least once every day.
Here's what happens:
1: Chrome stops loading web pages. The new tab page is changed to a complete white blank. If you wait for long enough, chrome crashes.
2: Screenshots stop working. Three finger swipe doesn't work, and from the notification shade, the output pic is a black screen. Hence I cannot provide screenshots.
3: Notification tone and Ringtone selection do not play (i.e preview) sounds, rather display a message "Could not connect to the internet".
4: YouTube loads data fine until video playback, at which it crashes after some time.
5: Messaging apps (such as whatsapp, hike) cannot send message anymore, however in some cases can receive messages.
5: Other apps such as facebook, instagram etc also crash and don't load content and crash.
The only fix is to reboot the device. Which is fine, however, it gets rather annoying that it happens every single day.
If anyone has any advice for a fix, I'd be very thankful.
were you able to find some sort of solution to all these problems?
i am having the exact same issue(s) and have looked it up all over the net but still couldnt find anything relevant.
Download official rom from en.miui.com
Place the zip in internal or sd
Open updater and update by zip.
Tht should fix it
If even tht didn't do it the you'll have to unlock bootloader and install a custom rom
P. S even oero custom roms are available
updated through miui updater but the issues still remained.
one thing i noticed is that if u keep on using the phone when app starts to crash without rebooting then after a while systemui has stopped comes up.
more importantly most of these issues appeared while using hike.
i uninstalled hike to see if a third party app could be interefering with the background processes and voila!
no hangups/app crashes/network problems for 2 days straight.
thanks anyways.
Yep, uninstalling hike fixed the problem for me.
Pretty weird how hike can crash miui haha
The same problem
Hello, guys! I have the same problem and it's annoying. What is hike? Where I can find it? Did you mean "hike: payments" from Play market?

hike is a messenger similar to Whatsapp. If you don't have it installed, your problem is different from ours, which was fixed by uninstalling hike.
