[Request] Brightness Mod - AT&T HTC One (M8)

Can a brightness mod be made to increase the output of the screen. I hate having to squint in to see when I am outdoors.

I second this, surprisingly running into a lot of trouble reading outside on full brightness. Looks great indoors.

That will not fix. The problem is max bright is not bright enough. It's pretty weak imo. And at least one other person feels the same way.

[Req] Screen wash out fix

Just curious is this. possible to change or fix? I just came from using a nexus s and flashed the matrix kernel making my screen have more contrast and look less washed out , so my request or question is can u change the screen settings on the photon by flashing a kernel and give it more contrast?
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
Maybe when the devs have the chance to dug into it. Our after market kernels right now are in their infancy.
Edit: btw this thread will probably be moved ti general. The developers do check those threads too. But the dev threads are generally specific to mods that someone has made.

O OK I see yea the photon doesn't have as much supposrt be nice to see the things devs come out with tho and yea that's fine don't care where it's moved just figured I'd get my thought and there and see if there's anyone wondering what I am thanx for the response man

i doubt it, the reason why it worked on the nexus s was because of the led nature, this is lcd so all you can control is the brightness of teh backlight. wheres on the amoled/samoled screens you can control each pixel

What about the black crush issue? Would that fixable via software?
I thought our screens were led...

as far as i knew we are using a SLCD with the pentile matrix display
There has to be a way to modify this color. Can't accept this as it is.

Would it be possible to incorporate a port of voodoo color mod into one of our current custom kernels?

Voodoo is for amoled screens only. We don't have the levels of adjustment that amoleds have available.

My screen is so contrasty I can't believe you feel it is washed out.
And it is so much brighter than my nexus...
My screen does look washed out. Compared to my epic 4g. Lol. The color looks saturated...and..uhh washed out
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
I agree with ronnienyc it does have a lot of contrast but it is also a little less color than my nexus s. I think we could lower the contrast tho its a qhd screen and every screen must have an option to change hue contrast and sharpness right?
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
What I don't like about the nexus and epic screens is that they are over saturated and skin tones look red or orange.
Any new news? this really has to be fixed.. cant even enjoy pics in your gallery they look so weird.

Very different picture results, same lighting/settings in camera

Hello People,
So I just took a picture of the room I'm in and in the first shot I got this.
Came out nice right? I decided the picture was a little tilet so I took another shot, without changing a single setting and got this:
Why is the first one so nice and rich but the second one is all washed out?? I can't for the life of me get the camera to take another picture that looks like the first one. Does anyone have any ideas what's going on here and how I can replicate the initial results?
That's the white balance setting kicking in. The first time it thought you were outside so it changed the white balance for daylight. The second time it realized you were inside so it adjusted it for incandescent lighting. I've only noticed it switch between those two, so if you want a better picture select it yourself.
Go to menu>white balance>and change 'auto' to the best setting for whatever room you are in.
Ha thanks! THat was it! Although, leaving it on auto gives the washed out picture. Changing it to "daylight" while inside gives the nice deep color
That "rich" color you are referring to is totally off and looks horrible! The second one is correct, notice that the whites are actually white??? The Daylight setting is overcompensating a yellow filter to correct the blue cast that would be there if you were outside in the sun like the setting indicates...
I have to agree with jsls

+2 The 2nd photo has a more natural balance to it. If your using AWB....dont. Auto anything never gives consistent results.

To get the results it seems that you want just use a sepia filter and it will give it that warm look. If you want a "correct" picture the second one is the way to go however. If you like the look then go with it.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Yeah I think you might be a little color blind, because the second pic looks so much better. The color actually stand out. The whites are white not yellow like the first pic. And look at the computer screen, the colors look good.
I like the first one cause it looks like it was taken back in 1912 and sat on the old print out paper in my grandma's closet till this morning.
Dude really?
Let me clarify if you have a light source in shot the auto adjustment will kick in.

HTC One screen in daylight..

I own the HTC One and was watching the various video reviews on YouTube and some of the S4 vs One and all of them were saying the Ones screen could be seen under the sun and that its better under the daylight than the S4 ...not sure what these people were smoking but I can't see the Ones screen in direct sun light for ****.
Can't comment on the S4 so I'll reserve judgement on that device.
There is a screen protector on my One but I don't think it'd hamper that?

The screen is great outside in sunlight unless you use it in landscape with sunglasses on, then it will completely black out.

In my experience, the screen performs awesome under direct sunlight, and I live in Arizona, so I know a thing or two about direct sunlight.

No screen performs well in direct sunlight at 50% brightness. This screen is the best out there in direct sunlight in my opinion, and I've owned almost every new phone there is.

Well there's your problem! Your screen brightness needs to be at 100% to look the best in direct sunlight. All smartphone screens are like this. You'll need to switch to automatic brightness or manually crank up the brightness when outside. And don't use power saving mode - it dims the screen.

[Q] Brighness Issues with Note 2

I just got the Note 2 a few weeks and so far it's my favorite phone I've ever owned. I love the big screen, I use the S pen all the time and the battery is tremendous.
One thing that I'm not quite fond of is the screen brightness, specially when using Netflix.
I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this with Netflix but the brightness on the phone seems to be OK but as soon as I start playing something on Netflix it's really dim. I have the brightness turned all the way up and it still looks really dim.
The quality also isn't great either, it's like it's not playing in HD or something. I've tried connecting to 4G and Wi-Fi and it still doesn't always look so great.
Wondering if there anyone knows of a solution or a hack or something?
I watch a lot of Netflix on my phone and would love to solve this.
I am rooted and I'm using JellyBeans 21 ROM.
Thanks.
Try going back to stock ROM and check if the issue persists.
I noticed that beans rom has reduced brightness overall (cannot say for sure but that was what I felt comparing against stock)

Have you adjusted your quality levels on netflix.com yet? If your not worried about data or use wifi alot crank up quality settings on the site. Then reboot and fire flix back up. As the video buffers during play quality will slowly increase. Depending on your connection it should play pretty decent quality a minute or so into the video. And if you use mx player for your video files make sure you have mx brightness turned up. Im pretty sure mx settings are independent of system. Im also running 21 but I always use beans stock kernel. And even on the puter or xbox netflix Never truly hits HD.

kernels don't do it either... sorry i'm not trying to troll you or anything it's just not true. maybe you hit "auto-adjust screen tone" in settings? it's a samsung setting that basically reduces brightness.l
Do a search on XDA and download the app called "A Brighter Note" (if you are rooted). It enables you to brighten your screen about 10% more.

If you do just remember one thing.
The AMOLED screen in our phones gets burn in if your not careful. the brighter the screen the quicker the burn in, at least thats what ive been told.
I have not seen any burn in on my phone, but I know people who are always at max brightness and you can see their status bar even in full screen apps because its burnt in...
