HI at all HTC Hero users.
ATM i use a htc touch pro, it is nice but i want to change to android, because there are a lot off nice apllications, and the ports for the touch pro are too laggy, eat too much battery etc.
So i want a nice android device.
I have a question for you:
Does the HTC Hero has enought power for android (at this moment)?
For me, the following things are important:
1. applications (navigation system or other GPS-programs; and other apps work without problems)
2. games like angry birds; paper toss ect work without a workaround: just install from the market and play
I know that dualcore-devices will come next month but i need this phone for some games(like explained), listen to music, surf a little bit on web and use applications like gps sport etc.
I also do not want 4.0" devices, 3,2" is perfect for me.
So my question is: does the HTC Hero has enought power(with the right rom and overclocked to 691-729MHZ) for my use?
Thanks for your answers,

Google Navigation works okay for me, sometimes slightly slow and the latest version of angry birds is laggy but Paper Toss works relatively well.
Honestly, at this stage I wouldn't recommend it unless you're on a really tight budget. Even then, a phone such as the ZTE Blade which has a high res 3.5 inch screen is under £100, if you want a HTC then go for a Legend which has decent enough performance.
the simple answer is no. In the current android climate, the hero doesn't cut it. I still think its a great sized phone, cant agree more with you on that one, but its processor, no matter how overclocked, doesn't come close to even the cpu of the original droid, never mind the snapdragons, or the future dual core cpus. The hero doesn't have a dedicated graphics chipset, so you can wave goodbye to angry birds, and all but the simplest android games. The hero is only capable of openGLS 1.1 (I think?) and most phones and games nowadays use openGLS 2
GPS... Well, for me it's been a largely poor experience. The hero's battery is poor at best under heavyish use, so you will have to have a charger to hand for GPS. and even then, it runs hot, and isn't the best experience ever (UI lag). Others may have faired better in this department though.
So no, I would never recommend buying a hero now. Its been a great phone for the time I've had it, and I'll be sad to see it go, but at the same time I really can't wait to embrace a more powerful, capable android phone as soon as my contract runs out.
Thanks for the fast answers.
It wasn't the answer, i wanted to hear... but i am happy to hear it from you, than to feel it after buying this device.
The Blade isn't my phone because the software development isn't as big as i like. I want some tweaked devices, with good hardware.
Because i buyed an Acer Neotouch S200 (same hardware like the HD2) but it wasn't as good as the HD2: bad GPS, no good software, quite bad.
So i need to wait for the dual-cores to get a nice andoird experience?
For me it is important:- i want to listen to music(stream radio/ mp3)
- use a fast GPS-programm to navigate and to do sport
- use applications like : rss, kcal counter etc...
- the phone need to be handy (no 4" display)
- play some games not the newest ones like quake2/3 , just little games for freetime
big thanks to you,

Maybe you could look at the Original Desire then? Screen is 3.7 inch but it would suit all your needs, plus it's going to get Gingerbread so I think there will be development on it for another year. I don't think it's too expensive now either.
Good luck with whatever you choose to buy.
Wait for Wildfire S. It has more RAM and faster CPU and its a bit smaller

+1 here
My biggest gripe with the Hero is it's performance. When android was fresh and fairly simple and with not too many demanding apps it was fine, just. Now though it is like running that computer you bought ages ago, where it runs the OS ok, but once you do stuff it kinda feels a bit sluggish. OK if you don't push it but you'll always be wanting more.
I'm personally looking forward to something more snappier in the summer when my contract is due.
Hi guys!
Is it just me or the galaxy tab is really bad at running applications? I cant believe that running a 2D game such as xconstruction would run extremely bad on the tab due to the streching of the screen. In addition, I have downloaded many applications and games and ended up uninstalling around 60% of them because they dont run very well, while others show nothing but a black screen!
I am really shocked by the poor performance of the tab! This device is full of conflicts! Some 3D games run very well while most run badly. Browsing is good but pdf viewing is laggy and bad! I have always admired google and defended Tabs with honeycomb against iPad, but I think I will have to revert back to iPad for the sake of a market filled with applications and excellent documents viewing quality.
I hate being biased, but the Tab 10.1 lacks the performance despite of the Dual Core processor and 1Gb ram. What do you guys think? I welcome hearing positives and negatives about it. Would anyone be kind enough to recommend apps that are fully working with no bugs? The same goes to games suggestions too!

i have never really had any kind of problem with running games on my tab i think one or two have just had a black screen or forced close but they were phone aps that didnt look too good anyways
you may have a cluttered up tab that means that it doesnt run very well but other than that i dont really know why games arnt working
a few good games are apparatus, spirit, fieldrunners hd and superstick man golf which all work perfectly on my tab
hope ive helped
Use the apps and games from http://www.tablified.com/. They all are optimized for tablets.

I really don't think you can blame the hardware for an apps poor performance. If you really want to see what the hardware can do play some of the THD games from Tegrazone app.

Thanks for the correction for the word "many" apps. It is true that English isn't my first language, I think that's the effect of a sleeping pill heheh.
Thank you all for passing by. I will have a look at the link suggested and will try the games that were menioned. I do like the way games run in the nvidia tegrazone, yet some are a bit poor reaching the required Fps.

Sentinel 3 Homeworld is the best tower defense game out there for tabs!
I know about around 400 apps they are running on the 10.1 inch tab. Where do you live? Android Market or google issues?

Hi i was just wondering somethings about the xperia u before it replaces my wildfire
Here are something i would like to know.
1.Can the xperia u play extremely graphic intensive games such as N.O.V.A 3, FIFA 12, MODERN COMBAT 3,etc and how is the overall experience on playing these games on a small screen?
2.Is the screen size been ever a problem for typing, playing games ,etc (especially for people who got big fingers)?
3. How much can I overclock this phone safely too?
The storage is too low, thats why i wouldnt buy it personally

1. Yes, all of them. It's a freaking duel core processor, don't underestimate it
2.Screen is perfect ! i have big hands (my hight is 1.90 meters).
3.1200mhz would be stable and give decent battery life
In portrait its very small you cant type.
But you can type in landscape with ez.
Screen is small for playing good games..
All of these games you've mentioned runs flawlessly on my XPeria U.
Over all it's a good phone for 230$ budget go get it, It will be getting ICS in this Friday in India/Asia and in Europe next week.

So do you use the phone in landscape mostly then because of the screen?
Thanks for the quick reply guys i am moving to the xperia u soon (keeping my wildfire tho) hope to see you soon on the xperia u forums
One more Question though the phone has a 3.5" screen the same as the iphone 4s(sorry about mentioning the iphone) but why is it considered small and cramped when the iphone is easy to type with?

get sola bro.... storage is the one thing if u have less u will always be longing for more.... storage is a Pain in the @$$ in U if u consider gaming..... my friend has it...... i have a sola and all of them works well along with a bigger screen......
hit thanx if i helped....
1. i've played both nova 3 and modern combat 3 with XU. true it's not buttery smooth but coming from a less capable phone, the XU offers me more than enough gaming capabilities.
overall experience is what you'd expect from playing games on a phone sorry if that doesn't help much but hey, you've had a droid before, you know how it feels. only this time, boost the framerates higher and the display sharper.
2. for people who got big fingers, I imagine it might be. since I'm not one of them it's not a problem for me, both in landscape or portrait.
3. I can't help you much on that, because personally this phone feels fast enough it doesn't need an overclock. I wouldn't mind if somebody managed to undervolt it though.
as for storage problems, I only have one of those games that requires gigabytes of data installed at a time. Once I've finished them (or got bored), I'll simply delete it and install another. but I do kept a large number of casual, small games like temple run though.
Ok gonna move to xperia dont care about memory right now!
Hi,
I have bought a sony tablet Z a week ago and have been really heavy using it since that.
I just cant get rid of a feeling it is very laggy. It laggs when swiping between homescreens,
going to the apps menu or opening multitasking. Even the lags are not long and very often
it is noticeable.
Also scrolling the web pages is quite laggy. It just cant scroll smoothly. And again, the
lag is not any huge but it is visible. Especially on facebook for example which laggs
during every scroll.
Otherwise I really like this tablet, but this is something that bothers me. So I have read
nearly every disscusion and review and because many people wrote that the tablet is
mostly smooth I want to ask for your advice.
What is your experience? How does your device perform? And is the problem I described
a reason for reclamation?
Thank you!

A couple of things worth trying:
1. Try a different launcher. I use Nova, and it is very smooth on my XTZ
2. Update the firmware. You might also be experiencing touch screen over-sensitivity. There was a recent firmware update on my XTZ (US 16GB wifi only). The update made scrolling a lot smoother for me.

Thanks for tips. Unfortunately according to my settings I have the latest updates so it is not the problem.
I am wondering how smooth is your device? I have nothing to compare it with so maybe it is not unusual
to have those lags. But as it is inconvenient for using and most reviewers said it was all smooth I wanted
to ask about it.

Sorry to hear about the lagginess.
I've had my XTZ for almost a month now and have not noticed any lagginess. But as soon as I got it, I replaced the stock Xperia launcher with Nova Launcher Prime because (a) I use Nova on my other phones and tablets and (b) there were a lot of comments from other users that the stock launcher could get laggy. There's a free version of Nova you might want to try out, and the process of switching is completely reversible and painless (I use an app called Home Manager).
My main issue with the tablet initially was with screen sensitivity. It gave the impression of my finger skipping over the screen as if on account of friction. Swipes were not smooth. But the OTA update to firmware 370 helped immensely.
Other things you might consider. (a) See what's running in the background; I generally have very little running in the background, including apps that might generate notifications. (b) Uninstalling bloatware when possible.
The XTZ compares favorably, for me at least, with my other handhelds: Galaxy Note phone, Nexus 7 and iPad 2 (which I gave to my father when I got the XTZ
Now that I think of it, the one thing that pretty much guarantees that my XTZ will be laggy is background app updates. But this is true for all my handhelds. Do you have apps updating automatically in the background?
Good luck!

I personally think this is a firmware issue. So hopefully when 4.2.2 comes out (which i do hope is soon) will fix it. For the time being, you can use nova launcher which makes swiping around the tablet smooth.
The new firmware has improved the stock launcher abit but theres still more room to improve.
Heres hoping to an update soon
For web browsing, try dolphin. Its much smoother then the jerky chrome that comes with the tablet.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Thanks again.
Dolphin browser is truly a little bit faster than google.
But my problem is still slightly visible. I will try to
describe it more specifically because it may not
be unusual as I thought and it may be on every
device.
So what it basically does is when you scroll and
on a web page with a picture or normally more
pictures it sometimes kind a jump a little bit
forward. Usually over the picture you are scrolling.
It is mostly when you scroll fast and the scrolling
goes down.
Please tell me now if you also have it?
Because even when I ended all my background it
was still there.
Yes, it happens. Yes, it happens on any device. Get over it. It's impossible to scroll all javascript- and picture-heavy web pages without some stutter on devices with such weak processors. For that you need "real" CPUs.
If OTA updates show nothing, try connecting your tablet to PC Companion. The LTE version doesn't have OTA updates, but the 253 build is available via PC Companion. Not sure about Wifi version though.
Hello guys,
I just wanted to know how your Xperia Z Ultra is!
I've been a Xperia P, Z user for about a year now, but now I'm looking forward for some Phablets!
I own a IPad 4 but it is too heavy to carry or to read something! So I planned to buy a Phablet!
Please let me know your true experience with your Z Ultra,
Please write battery life, performance, gaming and everything u feel bout it!
Also if you can compare with other Phablets then how many ratings out of 10 will u give?
Try with these :-
Samsung Galaxy Mega
HTC One Max
IPad Mini with Retina
Thank you.
Also if you have any other Phablets you know then please write it down!
I'm looking for 6' and more inch Phablet, not 5 so don't suggest Xperia Z1 lol!
Battery life is pretty good I use mine quite abit throughout day. Performance is good. Can get annoying with widget redraws but not enough to annoy me that much. Gaming is good I play fifa. Gta. And fm2014. All run great. I do like the design. I don't like sound quality but then again its waterproof which makes that a problem. Camera is poor as no flash. Ideally I would love the htc one max. As having a HTC one and this XZU. I would rather sell up just for a HTC one max.
Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk
Well if you want the biggest phablet the ultra is king. But don't count on the camera. It's ok to take ok pictures. Men I love my ultra! I don't care for the camera or flash. Big screen and power love it.....
the Z Ultra is something for you, if:
-you have a big Pocket
-looking for a Phablet that has nearly the graphical and CPU power of an PS3 (just 15% of graphical power behind it)
-like big screens
-want to use nearly everything for the Touchscreen
-you already killed a Phone whith water
the Z Ultra isnt something for you, if:
-u need more than 11GB for Apps (than buy an Galaxy note 3 instead)
-you want to shoot Photos whith it
-your Pocket is too small
-you want to change the battery
and if the battery live isnt enugh you also can upgrade to 6050mAh whith an CP12, when this isnt enugh look for a cable which should direct you to a Desktop PC, thats using your Battery Live to run Battlefield 4 on Ultra graphics .
Thanks alot guys! Appreciate it!
Your suggestions mean alot to me
Ok u guys say camera is a bit dull but it's Ok as I just need for reading purpose!
Btw r there any special specific books for this device?
Coz I don't like the ones present in play store!
And what do u think should I go for it? Or u think Sony will release any other Phablet soon?
I saw Xperia T2 ultra but it's specs aren't as good as Z Ultra and I love Sony phones look so I don't feel like going for samsung!
HTC One Max is pretty good so let me hear some reviews from u guys!
Again thanks.

Btw why there is so huge difference between HTC One Max nd Z Ultra Cost?
As far as I know Z Ultra offers more space but HTC One Max seems to be more costlier!
and if you mean the weight its just 250g much better than your Tablet.

Or use Folder Mount and move the game data to an external SD card
So the Ultra is a fantastic choice if you can handle the size.
I came from a Note 2 so I was already used to big phones but this is a league above that still.
It fits in your pockets if you need to, just dont look too awesome but for me I normally carry my phones any way and have a Pouch Case in case I need it for any reason as well.
As for performance, I love the Stock 4.3 Sony Roms. It is the best stock Rom I have ever tried on any phone. I just used some apps to modify things and remove ones I didnt care for to make it my own custom rom in a way.
Games run fantastic unless it is something horrible coded for Snapdragon. Emulators are super smooth as well.
The display quality is very detailed and aside from not having super deep blacks like Amoled, I prefer the quality of it.
The only drawbacks to me personally, are the battery not being replaceable and the lack of a flash (for flashlight purposes not for camera usage).
The camera is not the greatest but it can do a decent job if you shoot manually adjusting ISO.
Sound is not super clear but as mentioned, it is water proof so there is a tradeoff there of course.
The phone just feels AMAZING to hold specially naked (the phone not you!).
The small apps are also very nice to use the display for multi tasking and you can create them from your app widgets which is also nice.
Reading PDFs on it is very good at least to my eyes.
Good luck!

Never had issues with overheating with it and the self touch issues from that I have read seems to have been fixed with latest ROM updates. Mine never had that issue but I upgraded right after I got it.
Not so sure about cold issues, I live in Utah so during the worst part of the winter we got about -14F and never noticed anything wrong with it although I didnt actively stayed outside to get frozen for too long so not sure

I personally love Readmill. It's cross-platform, so you can get it on iOS too, and it also syncs between devices (i.e start reading on your iPad and resume on your [insert device]). It's a nice app if you have epubs etc. stored locally (on SD card/internal memory), but it doesn't have a large in-app store if that's your thing.
Regarding the One Max, meh. It's big and all, but it's hardly a phablet. It's more like a big phone and it's exactly like the One, but bigger. No special features or anything. The Ultra on the other hand is a phablet with a big P. The UI is properly sized for its screen size, while the Max' UI is just blown up. Again, it's a large phone.
I'm having some "issues" with my Ultra though. You've probably read my post about the screen acting up when it's cold outside. It doesn't affect its usability though, but it just looks weird for a minute. I haven't read about anyone else having this issue, so i'm assuming it's a production error from Sony's side.
Battery life is pretty good. I didn't expect anything amazing since it's so thin, but i got properly surprised. Here's a screenshot from yesterday. I watched tv shows all day, watched a movie (Bad Grandpa), browsed, read some news (with Press) messed with some camera modules and so on. That's how long the screen was on, not the device itself. Not bad for a 6.4mm thick device with a full HD display. It'll last even longer if you're big on reading ebooks. It tends to only drop about 1% from i go to bed to i wake up (8 hours) with Stamina enabled (cuts apps' data connection while in standby, unless you whitelist some apps).
Camera? Don't go to a Victoria's Secret party expecting amazing photos and memories. They'll probably end up looking like manatees. Fine, it's not that bad, but there's a lot of noise in them, so it's absolutely not the go-to camera if it's a little dark, or even dim. It performs okay in daylight though.
Screen? It's really good. You're not used to AMOLEDs(?) since you're coming from an iPad, so it doesn't have the deep blacks, but the colors are much much better and more true to life. I don't think you'll have any complaints.
Audio? It's not a boomblaster, but it does its job (for me at least). Most people tend to forget that the built-in equalizer has an option called "xLOUD" and it'll boost the speaker volume. It's really loud (for me) when xLOUD is enabled, and i have never ever pushed the volume to max.
Software? I like it. It's stable and fairly lightweight (compared to TouchWiz and whatever that 10 year old designed for LG) and very fast. It has "Small apps" which are small floating apps, that floats on top of whatever you're doing. Writing an email and want to check the curling score (go Norway!), hit the multitasking button and hit the "small browser", and BOOM! A tiny browser window opens up on top of your email, and you're free to read about Canada's loss without leaving the email app.
Yes, i'm the guy who only want to share or say one short thing, but goes way beyond that and writes a novel. I wanted to mention Readmill, and look at this.. it's the work of a madman (@shaolin95 totally knows what i'm talking about). Sorry!
I have a ZU and love it!!! I came from a note 2 and was gonna go for a note 3 but the ZU is just plain sexy and is a beast.
Im also in Canada so the waterproofing also works in snow (Ive dropped a few cells in snow banks and such)
Its a killer device, great on the eyes and is perfect for some one like me who gave up there cell and 7in tablet for this.
