Hi. I know some devices are USB host capable, which is basically being able to read /write on USB flash drive. Is grand Quatro USB host capable? Thanks.

There is an app (I forgot the name) which says Grand Quattro can provide this feature, but I think the support to this function is missing on kernel.
If I'm not wrong there are some people to include this support for our device.
Thanks.. I've been trying few apps to activate this feature but no luck. Do you recommend any?

Before trying any, we should be patient and wait for our devs to build the OTG support in the Kernel first
Oh, one more thing, once we have it, most probably we'll have to be extra careful of the possibility that we get a swtiching usb hub, instead of an auto-hub as is the stock behaviour for Stock OTG-capable devices. This means, while the OTG-Capable devices do have an auto-switch feature that detects the type of cable connected (charger, charger/data, OTG), the first versions of OTG for our device *Might* not support this feature, and we'll have to manually switch the hub. In such case, you must be cautious of checking the type of host enabled before connecting to AC!!
I've read in the forums that if you connect your device to charger while the hub is set to OTG, you have the chance of damaging the port rendering it useless.
Too risky why just we dont use an sd card instead

Let's wait for our devs to determine it first I really hope it's an auto-switching hub :fingers-crossed:

Dear folks,
I have a trusty Dell Streak 5, which I appreciate much, buuuuuut..... I keep getting this error message when trying to load a DSLR controller: "Your Android device is not compatible with Android's USB host API. A newer firmware for your device MAY fix the problem"....
I am currently running Longhorn 2.91 (Android version 2.3.7), Kernal version 2.6.35.14-DSC-Team_Phoenix [email protected] #346, Baseband Version GAUSB1A136000-US.
Are there any fixes for this issue, do I need to change the ROM or what other options have I?
Also, on a side note request, is there a way to change the LCD resolution, everything is a bit too small and unreadable?
Thanks very much!
~J:cyclops:
What's the exact app? If it's doing what I think it's doing, you need to be using Android 3.0 or newer.
If it's using the android usb accessory api, that was introduced in either 3.0 or 3.1, 2.x predates it.
If it's actually trying to become a usb host, it's supported in hardware but it's not terribly reliable in all our current roms.
As for the font sizes, you'll want to read up on ro.sf.lcd_density, the S5 uses 160 while most devices use 240.
Trying to figure this suckah out!
Hello TheManii,
The exact app is this one: DSLR Controller (BETA) 0.94.1 (I cannot, as of yet, post the link).....
Is there a DLSR app that I can use for this ROM pkg? So frustrating indeed!! Or perhaps a workaround?
Is there an app or an add-on for S5 for the LCD?
Thanks much!

is is easy, install the DSC Rom , there you will have a configuration tool called DSConfig, the LCD settings are there too.
DSLR Controller (BETA) - Play Market seems to require your device either support usb hosting or usb accessory mode.
I dont know if DSC supports hosting, as I dont use dsc. But like previously stated usb accessory is for android 3.x and newer.
You might be able to get assitance from n0p to get it supported if you're simply using hosting, though dont expect any type of quick fix, it may take a fair amount of work if it works at all.
You could try using AOSP/ICS as it's new enough to 'support' usb accessory mode, though weither or not our rom+kernel has it working is an entirely different story.
tl;dr: the S5 is a bad canidate for this as it has very weak usb support for connecting other devices. If you plan on using DSLR controller heavily you're definitely better off with a different device.
yes, DSC supports usb hosting fully.
Use a sixaxis pairing tool............
And connect a ps3 controller
Its good...... Works fine for me......
All it needs is a root.....(which u shoul have)..

The saga continues?!
Thanks for the various replies. I am trying to figure out the best most updated ROM to do this, to use this DELL Streak 5 as a DSLR external monitor. I am currently using Longhorn 2.91 but that, apparently, does not offer the support that I seek. It also goes and stays in landscape mode during calls which I cannot seem to change... Dang ROMS never all perfect... Hahaha!! I may have to just suck it up and get another gadget but I like the idea of having one gadget that does it all, ya know? I cannot stand having a ton of stuff! If you good folks have suggestions regarding the most stable, up-to-date ROM that offers USB controller options, that would be superb!!
Thanks much and have a great weekend!
This is an Xposed module (See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401 for more on Xposed) that allows Time Warner's TWC TV app to work when USB debugging is enabled. It should also allow working with VPNs but this has not been tested.
Source code for the module is at https://github.com/Entropy512/XposedTWCTVPatcher
To install:
Install the Xposed Installer APK from the thread linked above
Install the Xposed framework using Xposed Installer
Install the APK linked in this post
Reboot your device after enabling the module in Xposed Installer
Enjoy TWC TV on a rooted device - no more need for a smali-hacked APK, just install it straight from the Play Store
Change Log
Changes:
9/11/2013:
Update to work with newer TWC updates. Sorry this took so long.
The app no longer seems to be checking for root in any way, so this just disables USB debug checks and also attempts to patch VPN detection. VPN detection patching is untested.

TWC pushed an update today. ProGuard obfuscation resulted in the name of a method we hooked changing from w to x...

Looks like it's only for Verizon users. It's probably best if someone who can regularly use the APK makes a module to do this.
I'm eventually going to write a very generic high-level guide with tips on how to figure out what an APK is doing.
If you know of anyone who has "fixed" that APK using the old smali-hack method, I can analyze that with androdiff to try and reproduce the techniques used.
Awesome!!!!
DAMMIT IT WORKED ON MY ROOTED ASUS TRANSFORMER 300 TF!!!!! Thank you for this.
Any plans on implementing the HDMI fix?
Hi, thanks for sharing this hack. I wonder if something like this would be possible to allow the install and running of Hulu Plus from the Play Store on a rooted device.

At some point. I've been busy with other things lately. I also only have one device with working HDMI output.

Yup, although it wouldn't come from me as I'm a Plus subscriber.
If there's a hacked Plus APK somewhere, I suggest using Androidguard's androdiff.py to figure out what it's patching.
Then use the Androguard Simple Text plugin to view the relevant source for the APK.
This should tell you which methods need to be overridden to always return true/false.
It works on galaxy s ii from Sprint running cm10. Although the app doesn't actually work. It opens and video status to play but then gets error. If you need with it when it first stats playing it turns green when it stops playing. The only Rom I have gotten it to work on is Blue Kuban. Any ideas?

This thread is only to discuss the mod to defeat root/USB debug checks in the app. It's not really the appropriate place to discuss any underlying device incompatibilities the app may have.
All I can say is - the graphics subsystem in CM10 on all exynos4 devices isn't exactly in the best shape. There is a reason CM10 and 10.1 never received M or stable builds for any exynos4 handset or tablet.
TWC pushed an update today.
This update changed the name of one of the methods this module hooks, so the module needed an update.
In theory, Xposed modules should keep working through an update, but if someone used ProGuard obfuscation, method names change often and as a result the module needs updating.

It checks for VPN? I'll take a look at that at some point.
The problem is, it's difficult to try blocking checks without a way to test the block, due to ProGuard obfuscation of the APK - You need to do a lot of reading to figure out exactly what the hell it's trying to do.
Although if there's a smali-hacked APK somewhere that does this, I can try and use androdiff to figure out what was patched.
Next on my list is HDMI.

Take a look at this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604411&page=9. They are trying to get hdmi and vpn to. Said they may know the smali code checking for vpn. Maybe you contact that dev and work together and get them both working. If I can help any way let me know. I don't hardy know any programming but I can poke around a little.

There's a good chance the network locks are done server-side... e.g. "don't allow it to work unless the connection comes from a Time Warner IP address".
hi,
i'm looking for app that with connecting regular mouse via otg i will control my pc with that mouse.
the reason for this question based on the fact that all my usb laptop entry dead...
i tried already to use unified remote, it was ok but it can't move through all the screen...

thanks
Questions go the q&a forum, not general.
You're looking for something that doesn't exist, I'd fix the pc first.

You don't need an app to use a USB or Bluetooth mouse, just plug it in, and you will get a mouse pointer automagically. Android supports it natively.

I am trying to use a Huawei 3g dongle on my Wifi only Note 10.1(2014) using the PPP widget and I keep on getting prepare device on the widget. Has anyone been able to get this app to work? I have read a few threads on different forums that mention using a different kernel, but I have no idea which one I would need.
The dongle I am using is the Huawei E173u-1.
Thanks.
I have the same problem
I have used Xluco kernel, and the original one.
I don't know how to resolve this.
Anyway, I have the same adapter. Greetings

Hi, to get PPP widget working, you need to use a kernel that include drivers and can load them
For example, kernel for Nexus 10 (tan-ce kernel) : http://blog.tan-ce.com/android-4-4-kitkat-kernel-for-nexus-10/

First of all, if You want to learn how to crack wifi start from aircrack-ng (only allowed on Your OWN network, since its basically breaking the law..), and have monitor-mode enabled wifi card (external only, Note2 does not support monitor mode), after that I won't instruct You since I'm 95% sure You will use it in unlawful ways.
Thanks.
can you explain in detail?

Omg please post the detail ????
It is against XDA forum rules to post how-to's that may lead to unlawful activities. sorry, there are other sites for this kind of thing, but they are mostly suited for pc-related things like that ; )
ps. You haven't checked all wifi-cracking apps avaible in playstore, You just don't know how to find proper ones (Linux Deploy for example.)

Internal Note's 2 wifi card doesn't even support it. not many phone's wifi cards support it (I only know about one or two of those : >), so such actions require EXTERNAL wifi card. And Linux deploy lets you use full linux distro, which on the other hand lets you install plenty of tools in the chroot enviroment, many of which are helpful in busting wifi networks
Oh and wifi card is work on note 2 ?

Most of external cards may work, some may not. all depends on driver avaibility (And not every single external wifi card supports monitor mode). But I haven't really experienced any issues using external wifi card for pentesting.
