It is possible to S-OFF, just look into Original Android Developement or at rumrunners.us. But you don't need it to install busybox, you just need an unsecure kernel. Install any custom kernel from here you want, they are all unsecure. Then, you need to remount system partition as writable and then you can install busybox. Another option is to flash it via recovery. Good luck!

Which recovery you have installed? Install 4ext rc3 and flash the Rom, you might not be able to do it cause you must be flashing an ics Rom which requires a different kernel, either use fastboot to flash the boot.img or use 4ext touch recovery...
Thanks for the help bro.
I just want to make this straight.
What should i do and which recovery should i install to install ics rom?
Just letting u know that mine is s-on
EDIT:I tried the 4ext recovery rc3. But still failed. I cant install ics rom with it.

Problem rooting after JB update

Well I went full stock on ICS so I can update to JB and after updating and installing custom recovery (TWRP 2.6.3.0) I tried to install Superuser or SuperSU
but both say "Can't update binary,contact the dev" or something,and other times "No binary installed and the app can't install it".
I actually can't remember how I rooted my phone the 1st time on ICS and can't remember what I should do now -_-

That's not a system write kernel, did you download the latest SuperSU?

Sure did
You have to flash SuperSu in recovery, installing via Google Play won't work.

Flash a super su zip downloaded from a thread using twrp or cwm.

Busybox or rom without kernel installation?

I have just unlocked and rooted and now want to try rumrunner for S-OFF but I am having a ridiculous time trying to get busybox installed. I keep installing stock roms in hopes to get busybox installed but they all seem to want to install a kernel which sends my phone into a bootloop even though they say they are stock kernel roms. Does anybody know how I can get busybox on stock without having to do this or can recommend a rom to me that doesent install a kernel for S-ON? HBOOT 2.009 , version 3.17, TWRP 2.6.3.0 just for reference.
Download from the link below and flash in recovery.

I think you must flash the lastest version of super su or update the binaries
HTC Desire X || Android 4.1.2 || mySENSEdx5 RC4.0

When you open the app of super su and the binaries arent updated, the system shows a notification and it tells that you must update the binaries
HTC Desire X || Android 4.1.2 || mySENSEdx5 RC4.0
You can find supersu flashable zip from xda install in recovery mode.I had the same problem.it solved.
do on your own risk.

Yes .. you don't need root to install another ROM as all/most of the custom ROMs are pre-rooted.
What you need is an unlocked bootloader and a proper recovery meant for your hboot version installed.

Yes u can also use windroid toolkit.. No tutorial is required for it.. It is a one click root method. First unlock bootloader , flash recovery ,then root it by flashing supersu.

All the steps u mentioned are fine.
For rooting the first step is to unlock bootloader from windroid , ( incase u forgot which I told in the previous post) And then flash recovery & then supersu (root access)
But ,U need to flash custom ROM from the recovery. And yes the backup made from recovery is sufficient.
Can u tell me your hboot by entering into bootloader ( power + vol down button).

Since u have jb hboot (1.25.0002) , u need to flash jb recovery from windroid.
First root your phone successfully, then think about choosing Roms.

Try installing the 1.5.0.0 TWRP for JB from Original Developement. Also, you don't need to backup the cache partition, data and system is enough.
