[Q] Rooting for a custom rom (for the first time) - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Okay. I got my first smartphone (Verizon Galaxy S4 16gb) and I'm currently not happy with how touchwiz works overall. So I have decided to root my phone and Cyanogenmod. But the problem is the Cyanogenmod Installer doesn't work with the Verizon version and even after looking at 'how to root your S4' stuffs, I'm still very very confused. So can anyone just help me out on rooting my S4? I'm a beginner and never tried anything like rooting a device.
Thanks.

I strongly recommend you read the post the other two guys provided you. There is a very good chance that you may be able to root but you cannot run (flash) Cyanogenmod. The links provided are excellent sources of information which will clearly spell out what you can do with your S4 ad what you can't do (right now anyway).

[Q] t-mobile galaxy tab 10.1 4g

Bought the T-mobile galaxy tab 10.1 4g. I am interested in rooting the device so that I can remove unwanted bloatware. I am somewhat concerned by the absence of any comment on the device. I have one week to return it. Should I? Seems that not one single person has an interest in tweaking this device. I thought that this site would have root instructions on line within hours of the November release. I am concerned that it has not. It has version 3.2. Please advise. Thanks.
I too an anxiously awaiting some coverage on this... love the tablet, but dont willing to risk experimenting with it w/o more experience recovering devices.
The largest number of people here by far have Wi-Fi Tabs (P7510) followed by 3G Tabs (P7500). I'd guess about 15-25% have VZW LTE Tabs. Support for the latter dev wise and even from VZW has been pretty light. The good news is the T-Mobile Tab isn't 4G, but 3G HSPA+, the same as the international P7500. The only difference is it supports T-Mobile's funky AWS bands. Depending on how similar it is to the P7500, you may be able to use its ROMs. Post in the dev section and see if one of the P7500 dev's can help figure it out.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

good to know!
Has anyone flashed a rom on the t-mobile g tab yet? About to get one of these and want to make sure I'll be able to get ICS on it.
you can run my custom kernel on this device.
_tmo in the filename.
droidbasement.com/db-blog (and/or the thread in the dev section).
Stock recovery?
Question:
Any of you who have rooted found/have a copy of the stock recovery in case I need to return or resale? I've been searching for a while and can't figure which one is the one for the US TMO variant.
TIA
what roms are compatible with the tablet?

Looks like there is plenty of them, particularly international versions. Model seems to me that is 7500. However, I'm not flashing anything until I find the stock restore for Recovery - my previous post.
(Woops... just realized I flashed CWM Recovery last night in order to root so I could unlock radio . So much for being careful grrr)
Has anyone tried any of the available ROMs?

[Q] Wondering If I Should Root My SGS3

Hi,
Ive had my Galaxy S3 for about 4 months now, and being in Australia waiting for the Jelly Bean update is driving me crazy, So i wanted to know how hard it would be to root my S3, I would have done it as soon as i got the phone however, My first galaxy stopped working after putting a new rom on the phone and my galaxy s2's screen turned blue and then died, although this could have been because i dropped it the day before, not sure both of these have kind of put me off rooting, however ive had a xoom and optimus 3d that are still fine on custom roms.
Also, If i wanted to return to stock, and unroot the phone, would that restore my warranty?
I have the International Galaxy S3, I think With Optus in Australia,
I would have searched how to root by myself, but i really dont want to brick the phone.
So if someone could link me to a stable rom and some instructions on how to root it would be fantastic
Thanks for reading
4 months..... I couldn't even wait for a day after received my S3
Even with custom ICS ROM you ll see huge difference
Hehhe I don't really care about warranty anymore after I chose to root
As long I enjoy the phone... But there's a way to do that...
I can't help you to find the link for rooting and apply CWM since I haven't been to any threads
If I were you, go search root by CF....
Good luck

Hi, Thanks for the reply,
I am going to follow this guide, Its from another website so my apologies if i am not allowed to post links to external sites, Although i found the link on an XDA thread so i figured it would be okay
http://www.androidrootz.com/2012/09/how-to-root-any-samsung-galaxy-s3.html
And im just looking at ROM's now, Just out of curiosity which ROM are you using androbot?
Thanks
I would always root my phone Just because you can use AD Block
Haha yeah i will look forward to that , Just Root'd phone then Tested with Titanium backup and works fine Just wondering if any of you could recommend a good ROM, or the ROM your currently using that your really happy with? Thanks
I'm using crDroid 6.3 at the moment...
I like ROM doesn't get stripped but still performs fast and fluid too...
Each user has their own taste....
The ROM is around 9xx mb...
It's got AROMA installer too....
After you root and install CWM, crDroid ROM requires touch recovery to avoid any problem...so you need to flash touch recovery recommended ...

I gave stock a try for a while.... Lasted 3 days. Samsung managed to create something that can't run on a quad core phone.... That's almost something to be proud of, I shouldn't experience lag and homescreen redraws on a $500+ phone. Installing a custom rom is a must for me, I don't understand why OEM version of Android are so horrible but they are. Rooting only will give you a few benefits and extra things you can tweak as well as ad blocking and making the GPS faster. But if you really want a change, custom roms are the way to go.
Hey guys new to android based phones, ive had the s3 for a few months and have read the forum for a while, i want to flash a custom rom and read about imei backup which i just did but i want to know is it common for the imei to delete when flashing?
I lasted about 3 weeks on stock.. now dual booting CM10 & UltraROM. You won't regret it :good:
Should I root??
Sorry for posting here but it's the closest I have found to what my question is. I have an AT&T S3. I would like to root to get rid of my bloatware but I'm a chicken. I rooted my HTC Inspire over a year ago and I didn't really know how to remove to AT&T apps and the stock rom was not as snappy as it was prior to rooting. I planned on staying on ICS until an official JB OTA was available, as I've never flashed custom roms before. What I'm most concerned about I guess is whether rooting will mess up my 4gLTE and wifi. I rely heavily on wifi since sadly, AT&T is lame, expensive, and doesn't offer unlimited data. So I want to make sure I don't screw up wifi if I do this. Can anyone provide insight or point me to a good resource that can help?? Thanks a bunch in advance and sorry for the noob questions.

Using Odin to flash CF-Root is super-easy, so don't be afraid. Rooting will not affect your phone's smoothness, but if you use it to remove apps with Titanium Backup without making sure they are not useless, you may end up having performance issues or worse. Of course, I'm not saying you shouldn't root, just that after rooting, take care with what you remove via TB.
CF-Root can be found in the Original Android Development forum, follow the instructions and you'll be ok.
All three mobile networks are releasing them this month, November! Telstra, Voda then Optus.
Hopefully it's XXDLJ4 or above or XXDLJ6 etc
Swyped on GT-I9300 - XXDLJ1 - Siyah kernel 1.7b1 - Thunderbolt tweaks - JKay theme -

[Q] is it possible to instal at&t based roms on my verizon sch-i545?

my current set-up is surges deoxed nc5 rooted firmware. I have installed hyper-drive 16.1 and liked it but I would like to play around with more rom choices. is there a way to port at&t custom roms to work on my verizon galaxy s4? I can't find a good write-up on it, or tutorial and though googlie has done a great deal for the development community I just don't understand his xstrasmall patch or really understand auto port patches altogether. I would prefer installation methods to be by safestrap, as it is all I'm familiar with. Thank you, for your reply.

Some Att roms may work, you may just have to test them. Also you will have to change the APN (google Verizon APN) to be able to get service.

[Q] Questions about T-Mobile and MetroPCS Galaxy S5

Hello everyone,
Let me preface this by saying that I have googled this extensively and used the search feature on XDA but so far I have come up with no clear results. Apologize if this has been asked before (it probably has). I hope you guys can help me by providing me with some definite answers.
Background:
I've been researching about getting Lollipop on my device (I had it on my rooted sprint s4 and I miss it dearly). I've heard that the MetroPCS S5 is the exact phone as the T-Mobile S5. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to confirm whether that's the case or not. I have a MetroPCS S5 (SM-G900T1), and I would greatly appreciate it if you guys took the time to answer these questions for me:
1) Are they really the same phone?
AFTER SIM-UNLOCKING THE PHONE
2) Can I put T-Mobile S5 custom recoveries on the Metro Version?
3) Can I put T-Mobile S5 custom ROMs on the Metro version?
If the answers to question 2 and 3 is "NO" then where can I find a place where people are developing for the MetroPCS S5 or that place doesn't exist?
Thank you all for reading and for any help.
1) They are mostly the same as they do use the same network.
2) Any KLTE recovery will work.
3) Any KLTE rom SHOULD work, check the OP of the roms developer. Any KLTE AOSP rom will work.
Here is a site showing the recoveries are the same. -->HERE<--

You can actually flash the stock firmware and have the new modem and everything.(won't have metro bloat anymore but will have tmo which you can delete all that and grab metro bloat if you wanted it) But yes firmware, recoveries, roms, etc

Can you expect in the distant future a way to install a custom recovery without tripping the knox count (I believe that's what it's called)? As far as I know there's no way to reset that.

Doubtful that Knox will be figured out anytime in the near future. And you are correct, you cannot reset it once it's tripped.
But if you look around at the Knox threads, the vast majority of users that have tripped Knox have not had any problem getting service or warranty work. So for the most part it's a non issue.
Of course YMMV

I really need your help guys about my phone to upgrade to 6.0.1

Hello guys I just bought new Galaxy S4 Verzion it's work great but the problem it's that my batter it's going so fast and it's not working so fast so I just read some tutorails to upgrade to new unoffical version of marshmallow 6.0.1 from JDCTEAM but it's seems I have a bootloader VRUGOF1 but for that version I need to have a VRUAMDK and it's seems I can't change that.
But there are so many tutorails about ROM's, MDK's and so many things that I don't know what really are so I was thinking if someone can explain a bit how can I fix my problem and give me guide of these things because I'm little confused and those things for me right now are a headache so please help me.
Join the club my friend... I will never use verizon again or buy their phones.

If your bootloader is on OF1 then there is no way to downgrade to MDK to get to 6.0.1. As of now your best bet is to just use the roms for 0F1 or get a phone that can be bootloader unlocked and has 6.0.1 support. Unfortunately that's all that can be done. If you search the Verizon S4 forums there's plenty of info about it.
Try this

Go to the search box up there and type in Strang and you'll come up with some alternatives, just follow his instructions to the letter! If wifi doesnt come up flash it again, I used flash fire. Also Albe's S6 Full port... will take you up to an S6 upgrade. Very nice. Screw Verizon!!! Just follow the instructions and work through it...
