Hi, i just got my first HTC phone [Used - HTC One T-Mobile unlocked - i'm in Africa btw] so i don't know how it was unlocked!
my concern is if i managed to root and install CM, will i lose the unlock ??
how to know my unlock code ??
what if want to return to stock ROM or what if want to update to the upcoming Sense 6 [what ROM should i install International ROM or Tmob] and will i lose the unlock?? is there any possibility i lose the unlock??
find below the software info i found in the phone:
Android = 4.4.2
HTC Sense = 5.5
software # =4.19.531.10
HTC SDK API Level = 5.68
Also if you know any easy way to unlock the screen with other option than the power button i'll love to know it. and the Led indicator don't blink when i got whatsapp msgs too..
Sorry HTC newbie
Regards
So no one knows?? or no one care ??? :-\ -_-
If you root your phone, I don't think you will loose unlock. I also on T-Mobile, but I'm in the States, I'm using Insert Coin Sense 6 Rom. It's international, there is options when installing the Rom for different carriers. Don't use CM recovery! The best one to use is TWRP. There is instructions in the international section of this website on how to go back to stock. There so many roms to choose from, I don't think you will want to go back to stock. Nobody really comes in the T-Mobile section. You're best bet is to check out the international section.

Hello. I have just received a new G2 (aka Hero) on T-mobile UK.
I am planning on doing this, please can you tell me if this would work:
1.Installing a recovery image
2.Booting into recovery and making a Nandroid backup
3.Installing a generic HTC Rom which has been packed into update.zip NB.Rom is a stock rom and therefore not rooted
As I understand after flashing I would lose rooting and would need to root again if I need to. However, I don't need to so am not too bothered.
I am hoping that this would remove T-Mobile branding, but mainly make the phone quicker as it is running the latest ROM. Would this technique work?
I would also like to know wether my sim-lock status would be affected?
Also if Donut/Android 1.6 is released OTA by HTC would my phone update OTA?
Finally, does that mean once I have flashed it, I will not be able to access the recovery partition thing which includes Nandroid etc.?
Please answer my questions and comment if you have any reservations/concerns about this. All comments are much appreciated.
bump-please help
Bit previous with the bump after such a sort time??
To answer your questions:
First of all, as long as your G2 still has the original Hero firmware, you are probably ok with your plan. If you've got the latest firmware, you'll probably have to use the gold card technique.
If you install a generic ROM, you'll lose most the T-Mobile branding, but to be honest there was very little anyway. The T-Mobile splash screen when you switch on will remain though.
SIM-lock has nothing to do with your ROM - it was locked before it will still be locked after you update the ROM, and vice versa.
Finally, on the subject of an OTA, who knows???!!! I really wouldn't worry about it.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks Dave. Does anyone else have anything to say?
new user, similar question.
got myself a T-mobile G2 yesterday, thinking that it's the same thing as HTC Hero. ok, it's only a software difference but now i'm unable to flash it.
software version is 2.73.116.61 which is T-mobile version of course, and comparing version numbers to recent ones it looks really outdated. is it? on T-mobile UK support pages it's even older one. tried to download official version but HTC says there is no support for my device, based on serial number. also tried to flash with newest downloaded from here but no luck, got error 131
so, what can I do? root or goldcard?
thanx
You will need to goldcard to downgrade your ROM, before you'll be able to "upgrade" it to a custom ROM.

Dave

Debranding Optimus Hero (ORANGE)
Hi everyone.
I am an Android rookie, but i am trying to learn more and more each day.
I bought recently a HTC Hero from optimus operator (Portugal) - Orange - and it came with 1.5 version of the OS. There is original 2.1 version but not for my operator.
I already made an goldcard for it, removed simlock, and rooted but now i would like to know step by step what to do?
what rom (original and generic) should i install to have 2.1?
How to do it, with goldcard inside cellphone?
It is possible to go back?
I have read in Q&A that some orange phones, whem the debranding is done, loose the network due to some radio network imcompabilities... how can i know if that is or is not my case?
I would be greatful for all the help someone could give me.
Many thanks
D_Saint
Look at the guides in the android development section of how to root. If the phone is running a very old firmware the likelyhood is that you won't need to downgrade and therefore may not need a goldcard. But basically, you need to root and install a recovery image then you can flash a rom from the hero development section.
EDIT: See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
Hi,
I went through the long time consuming process in order to unlock my Hero from the Orange UK network. I ended up with a custom rom Default [ROM] Hero 2.1 UPDATE 1.4 [4/12/09]. However im finding this full of bugs. As im new to android i would like to get a stable ROM on there (like the standard Orange one) and was wondering if i put the origional one on there will the phone still be unlocked?
Alternativly if you can suggest any stable ROMS that would be great.
Kusky
HTC HERO
HTC TOUCH HD
can anyone help with this info? would ideally like to sort this tonight
Reason no one replied is because your Q is not clear.
First how did you manage to change from Orange rom to generic, if I understood you, bypassing CID?
first of all this is in the wrong section of the forum, this belongs to q&a not development.
if we we are talking about simlock here it is my understanding that it is independant of the rom, and therefore not changed by a custom or stock rom. i have no experience with this, i'm happily using my hero with the provider selling it here so you might get a second opinion on that.
if you want a fast, stable, rooted custom rom get modaco 3.0.
+1 on MoDaCo's latest ROM - you don't want an original ROM as it will unroot your phone and make it difficult to root it again after it has been applied.
The unlocking only applies to allowing your phone accept SIMs from different providers - that is independent of your ROM. My Telus Hero is unlocked and working on the Rogers network.

Not quite true - the Orange version of 2.73 had a problem when entering unlock codes. Whether this was a bug or by design isn't known, but in order to circumvent it you have to flash a non-Orange ROM to actually unlock.
I would imagine that the phone would remain unlocked if you flashed back to the Orange ROM, as I think it was more of a code entry/saving issue, but I'd add another vote for a MoDaCo ROM.

Hi!
I have a GSM Orange UK HTC Hero updated to the latest FW from Orange. I hear 2.1 release is quite close and HTC will be releasing the general version and after god know how long Orange should come up with a release as well.
I have now unlocked my phone to all networks, and currently using with 3 UK. I was wondering if I upgrade from my Orange ROM to the General one released by HTC, will it work?
Thanks in advance!
how did you unlock your phone pls. ???

Yes it will work fine,... Only issue I can see arising is that you will have to add your apn settings manually, but thats no deal-breaker. ....
.... Do it,.... You have nothing to lose.
use this to teach yourself how to do it,... [Guide] Newbie Guide to Install a Custom Rom [Updated 19/03]
... then pick a ROM from either here,... [ROM] Official HTC Hero RUU ROM Links,...
Or here,... Modaco's Stock ROMs + radios in update.zip format for GSM Hero
I have supplied the Modaco link as they have links to Pre-rooted standard ROMs which may be of use to you also.
I'v had my phone for about 6 weeks now,... Installed the latest Modaco ROM (MCR3.2) on the first day and haven't felt the need to change it yet,... I'm happy to wait for a 100% stable Android 2.1 release.... i.e... MCR4 BABY!!!!!... Cant wait!!!
The phone might not let you put anything other than an Orange Rom on your phone (if it was origionally an orange handset) you would have to use the "goldcard method" to enable you to trick the phone into installing other carriers or generic roms.
I suggest that you just root the device and use a rooted rom, will save all the hassle in trying to switch between official roms, and you don't have to lose any of the functionality.

I have a feeling that orange Rom wont let you use anything other than the orange Rom. I think if you root it you might be able to flash it to the general one, but then again if you have root might as well get a custom one instead.

followed the instructions on the unlockr..strangely enough it told me to downgrade using i think goldcard method but i just downloaded the old RUU from htc and htc sync it.(somehow it downgraded, dun ask me how)..the rest was to follow the steps
You don't need a gold card for the Orange handsets (well I didn't). Just install a new recovery then you can update with any zip file you like.
I would start over at Modaco as there is a thread called "Installing the patched recovery image on your device" in the sticky section.
Hey guys,
I just got a HTC HD2 yesterday and while plaing around I accidentally installed value added installer and that program installed arabic language to my phone. So everything is in arabic. How do I go about fixing this, I did a soft and hard reset plus I did a factory reset, nothing seemsto be working. Is there any solution to this issue? Please advise me on how to fix this problem. Im also a new to smartphones so my knowledge is limited.
regards,
Buppy
The official way:
Go to HTC website & download the ROM aplicable to your device & flash it.
Non official:
Flash HSPL & then flash the ROM you like.
Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.
I got my phone from a friend who got it from UAE. I was wondering will I have to download for UAE or can I download a UK ROM? Will this affect my phone negatively?
Please let me know.
Thank you for your help.
Regards,
BuppY
If you do not install HSPL, you have to download the ROM from HTC middle east website.
If you want any other ROM, (HTC -UK or custom), then you have to install HSPL. There is no negative effect on the phone's function.
Thank you for your help Omar. I really appreciate you helping me out.
I will download the ROM from HTC for now. I just got the phone few days ago so I want to get familiar with it before trying another ROM. I'm really not good at these kinds of things so I'm hoping I can learn it soon enough.
Anyways I really appreciate the help.. Thank you.

Upkar
Quick question..
If I were to add Android to my phone would I still be able to create and edit Microsoft Office documents?
you can disable arabic support by going to the settings tab>other>multilingual support and then check "disable multilingual support"
this will save you flashing another rom, however, if you do a hard reset, the phone will change to arabic after the process is complete.
regarding your android question:
there are a few apps on android that support creating/editing office documents such as quick office, some are paid and offer more functions (sometimes even more than office on wm 6.5) but none is like the desktop version of course.
you can try an SD or Ram android build and see if it fits your needs before flashing NAND android
Hey guys another quick question; by downloading the rom from HTC site for middleeast and africa will the phone go back to being locked. At the moment phone is unlocked and Im using it in Canada.
I just want to know if the phone will be locked or not after the installation of new ROM from HTC site.
Once again thanks for your help

No. The phone will not get locked. Middle East phones are 99.99% not locked ini the 1st place.
Hey!
Its been a longtime that I've had a android phone!
I know its a silly question but can somebody let me know if I can flash a T-Mobile ROM on a AT&T HTC One?
I know hardware wise they are same, but just want to make sure.
Also, I know there is nothing as best ROM.
But can anyone suggest me 2 ROM's with minimum issues?
One Stock ROM, other themed ROM.
PS: - I like the HTC Sense

Any gsm(att, tmobile, international) rom should work on your phone. Just make sure, when flashing, select the att files if applicable. Also when flashing, use the kernel that is compatible with you device. So Elemenalx or teamm7 kernel.
I would suggest flashing ROMs from the international HTC one thread because there are a lot more ROMs avaliable. I am picking between insert coin or the viper one rom. Both are stable and on the latest version of sense and Android. Insert coin has a theme if you install the kustomizer. Another rom that is not as stable is the RENOVATE rom. It has a full theme and amazing battery life.
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The ATT One and T-Mobile One are NOT the same.
The TMO unit has a different radio chipset to be able to operate on T-Mobiles 1700 / 2100 paired set. The ATT unit does not have these.

As your phone is SIM-unlocked, it shouldn't turn it locked when you flash the new update. At least, it didn't so to my SIM-unlocked AT&T HTC One.
