I9300 doesn't read sim card - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I just bought samsung galaxy s3 and tryed to put in sim card, but it doesn't recognize it. I tryed to do factory reset lot of times but it doesn't helped it still writting no sim card. I tryed to put in my friends card who is in other network, so I think its not a sim slot problem. First think - it locked. Today I went to the salon of my operator and they sayed that my phone is not locked or black listed, so maybe somebody knows the solution for it ?
Really sorry for my english

Proble might be hardware: sim slot or sim card. Does your sim work on other phones? Do other sims work on your phone?
If its software, a fresh firmware flash with wipes should fix it.

I tryed to put sim to my brothers galaxy s2 and it worked, and we tryed to put other network sim to my phone and its too worked, but sim with the same carier like my didn't worked, if its a software can u give me link where I can find tutorial how to fix it ?

I've known some weird bug to happen (1 in a million or more) where a specific sim won't work on a specific phone, a friend working for movistar had that happen. Don't know why, just that sim won't work in that phone. They had to make a duplicate of the sim with a different format.
Check with your carrier to see if a different sim might work. And make sure its not a problem with the phone being locked.

Can you tell us. Is the phone 2nd hand or brand new?
I was thinking that if it is 2nd hand, maybe the previous owner flashed Custom Roms and may have damaged the 'EFS partition' when they flashed Stock firmware back onto the device before selling to you.

No, if EFS is damaged then device wouldn't log into any network.
Try to repair your device with Kies if you don't know how to use Odin:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2088809
If it doesn't help visit your carriers store and get your SIM changed.

I tryed to put in maybe 4 cards with the same carrier and it didn't worked, yes phone is for 2nd hands :/

I have done that thing with kies but it didn't helped :/

Now, when you say it doesn't recognize the sim cards, do you get a "sim not inserted" message?
Or does it recognize the sim but won't allow making calls or connecting to mobile data?
You say with different carrier (your friends sim card) it works. But with your sim card and others from the same carrier it doesn't work. That sounds just like a network locked phone.

When I turning it on it loading about minute and in that place where is network bars is pic like phone blocked I think, but after loading it shows me a perfect connection, but in my task bar writting "No SIM" and under it with lower letter "Insert SIM card". On the lock screen is too writting "No SIM card - Emergency calls only"
I know that it's sounds like network locked, but I was gone to the salon operator and they sayed me that phone is not locked, but I did not understand, or only to their network, or general. Where can check it ?

This totally looks like a sim locked phone.
What you already know is that the phone works with your brother's sim card, so the phone works with your brother's carrier. You know it doesn't work with your sim card or any other sim card of your carrier.
But you are still not sure if it is a simlock.
Just check with a sim card from another different carrier (one that is not your carrier, nor your brother's carrier). If the phone is simlocked it shouldn't work with that 3rd carrier.

"Global System for Mobile Communications"
This technology uses a small SIM card to contain the mobile phone details such as your phone number & etc. This allows one to swap the SIM card into another phone and have it simply work. The SIM card can also store a limited number of phone numbers. The technology is used everywhere in the world, but only on AT&T and T-Mobile in America.

Not sure to understand since I'm not in those carrier and I can swap my SIM card into any other phone and it will still work. I'm in Canada and this works for any carrier for all I know. The SIM also contains phone numbers and can hold a bunch of SMS.

I forgot about the SMS storage. Your SIM card can be put into any other GSM phone. It could not be put into a Verizon phone, for example.

This may be a problem with your SIM reader. If you still have a valid warranty, then send it to Service centre.
If not, then we can try few things first before trying hardware repair.

Problem with SIM Card on JB

Hello. I'm recently bought this phone. Everything worked fine. Yesterday I updated it to Jelly Bean. Everything became better, but SIM Card doesn't working. When I boot phone, it shows an error "Unfortunately com.android.phone has stopped", few seconds after network turns off and it showing a message "UNKNOWN Don't power off @ contact us". I did hard resets, re-flashing and other barrel rolls, problem isn't disappear.
Device is P765, Rom V20C CIS. SIM is working in other phones, phone is working wit oher SIMs.
P.S.: I'm silly in English.
Copy everything from SIM card to computer then you have to reformat your card. Once jb recognizes your card then put everything back in its place.

I've been thinking about it. But I bought the SIM card in the subway and have no idea to whom it is registered.

Specially rolled away to 4.0.4 to hear that wonderful "Набранный вами номер не обслуживается".
I think the problem is that the SIM card of the old model with a 3.3 voltage (most of SIM cards manufactured after 2005 have a 1.8 voltage).

Can I made the unlock message come up without an unauthorized SIM card?

Is there a way to make the network unlock message show up without putting in a different SIM card? I've had my unlock code for a while I just want to use it.

Not that I know of but then again I could be wrong did they not give you instructions with unlock code
Sent from inside the T.A.R.D.I.S
They did it's the usual insert different SIM card then put the code but I was wondering if I can input the code without a foreign SIM card

No, there is no phone code for the unlock menu. Just pick up a prepaid sim card from walmart and unlock it, if your in the States. I ordered a simcard cutter with and cut an old ATT card I had in an old phone to unlock mine. Or if you have a friend or relative with a newer phone, pop their sim in for a couple secs and unlock it.

AT&T sim unlock

My friend has an android att phone and whenever he puts his simcard in it it freezes his account. Is there any way to maybe unlock the phone to were it will let him use his att sim? The phone is not rooted. Any help would be well appreciated.
Thanks

Just to make sure I'm not missing something, your friend has an ATT phone and his account get's frozen when he tries to put in another ATT SIM or a SIM from a different carrier? If it freezes his account when putting in another ATT SIM in his ATT phone then I would recommend contacting ATT and explaining what is happening to them as that's a network operator error. If the phone freezes his account when putting in another SIM from a non ATT carrier then what you can do is ask ATT for a SIM unlock code or if you tell me what model your friends phone is there places online you can buy a SIM unlock code you can enter yourself on your friends phone. Let me know if you still have questions.
