[HELP] SIM Contacts missing after reboot - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i've been playing with a Stable and Up-To-Date Custom ROM with my Ace-i (i won't say it so there will be no problem, but it is for personal use only)
i've tried to delete some .apk on the .zip file of the ROM and flash it, and so. but later on i experienced some crazy error or bug maybe. whenever i reboot my device safely, my SIM Contacts keep missing .. i think its being deleted .. it is saved in SIM Directory,
also i am shutting down and restarting my phone properly using the power button.
i also tried to reinstall a fresh, clean, copy of the ROM i use and still happens, anyone know why this odd problem happens ??
please help thank you
UPDATE: i reverted to Stock Ace-i GB ROM, as usual none of the contacts saved in my SIM Directory showed but after i added 1 contact, it all showed up. i'll try to reflash the rom and see if it will happen again. this is really really odd to happen

Next time before you flash a new rom, you can take a backup of your existing contacts. To do that go to Contacts>Contact Setting>Export to SD. You will get a .vcf file in SD Card. Once you have finished installing new rom, you can restore this backup by doing Contacts>Contact Setting>Import from SD Card and click on the .vcf file. Or your contacts are also synced with your google account. So whenever you log in to your google account, it will automatically sync you contacts back to your phone. Hope I Helped

no it's not that i didn't know that they are deleted after flashing .. my contacts are saved on my SIM Card Memory so either if i flash a new rom or factory reset they don't disappear .. the problem is, i discovered that they are still inside my Sim Card memory .. the only problem is, they won't appear on my contacts .. and everytime i add a new contact, it disappears after reboot ..
nonetheless, i'll just try using Cloud Contacts from now on,

Lol it's quite simple. The entire contact is in your SIM card but for them to be displayed into your phone, you just have to import them. Go to Contacts>Contact Settings>Import from SIM card. That's it. It will import all the SIM contacts to your phone. You will be now able to see all your contacts. Hope I Helped

yes correct, when i plug my SIM Card to another Device (iOS or Non-Android) it shows completely all of my contacts, but in my Android it doesn't .. this is the first time this happens to me .. i also tried flashing TouchWiz v9.5 but still happens,
only in stock rom does my contacts shows properly

I know this happens sometime. Same thing happened to me once. Custom rom couldn't read the contacts from SIM but when I put this SIM in a Nokia phone, it could be easily read. But I always use Google sync which solves my problem.

i guess my only option now is to shift to google contacts lol .. thanks mate thumbs up for you

OP, you're not alone, I'm also having this problem.
Suggesting one should rely on google to store contacts is not very helpful. One shouldn't have to rely on google. It's not an explanation or a solution.
Using the 'Import Contacts' function doesn't work, and that too should not be necessary.
This seems to be a problem with the 5830i only; I've tried using my SIM card with 4 different 5830s and all SIM contacts show up automatically (no 'importing' necessary).
People are suggesting it's something to do with the kernel? It would be nice to know which kernels contain this bug, and which custom ROMs address it. I'm running GB 2.3.6, and the kernel is 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #1.

Should not be necessary, and only possible if one has another smartphone that doesn't suffer from the same problem. The 5830i can't copy contacts from the SIM card to the SD card because it can't detect them.

Buddy, if you can't get import to work, then you should rely on other services to store your contacts. We have already provided you with solutions that we know off. It's up to you to use them or not. Also I think @amolgosavi meant the Rafael Baugis stock kernel. Here is the link,

Make sure to use the "stock kernel and modules". Hope I Helped

[Q] Nand from one phone restorable on another?

I have my p500 working flawlessly with v18.0 & froyo final. I recently installed the exact same setup on my friend's phone. The only problem is that she is telling me that the edge icon never appears / appears briefly and disappears. All the data settings are right according to what i've seen. (I've also installed the same setup on multiple p500)
She's not with me right now, and isn't quite sure to pull thru the nand backup/restore/flashing/ instillation and stuff.
The question is, suppose i set up everything she needs on my phone and nand back up it and ask her to restore that backup on her phone? Will it work? Has anyone tried it? I don't wanna screw this up for her.
Please assist me.
First: Wrong section
Second: Yes, it's possible, did the same to my wifes phone (we both have a P500).

Is exactly the same thing no worries. Just make sure you partition the sdcard properly like yours in case you want to restore sd-ext apps
Yes you can, as said above make sure sd partitioning is same. I used a stock rom nand backup that was posted on xda by another user when I wanted to take my phone to warranty services. It worked fine.
Did you backup .androd-secure?

You may want to try it without .android-secure and see if that works and/or wipe android-secure on the other phone. I'm thinking out loud here. I've never actually tried this so take it for what it's worth.

Android secure contains apps that are moved to the sd card (froyo apps to sd). So if you restore it you will find those apps. You can easily uninstall them later. Haven't tried this, taking an educated guess.
Suppose I have apps like widget locker making use of data from the sd card (the theme), will they be affected in the phone onto which they'll be restored?

Yeah, I suppose, if widget locker was enabled at the time you made the nand backup. If you really don't want any of your apps in someone else's phone then restore your backup to your phone, do a factory reset (or uninstall all offensive apps) , and then take another backup.

[Q] ok guys a little help here please

i recently flashed rom to my 3d. i did a full wipe and everything but i was told my contacts wouldnt dissapear but theyre gone. also my sd card has 121 mb free but there is only 1 app on it? does that make any sense? thanks for your help.
Your contacts should have backed up to googles servers. Did you ever deselect that option on your previous ROM?
Can you explain the last part? What do you mean you have only one app?
Appreciate my help? Thank me

Your contacts should come back when you sign into your google account and let it sync. No idea about your sdcard.
i cant seem to find out why so much space is missing from my sd? could it be the actual rom itself? the only thing i have on there before using tb to get my apps back is adobe app.
and my contacts didnt come back even after sync.. is there anything i can do ?

I'm going to assume you are using the 8GB card. Umm, you don't have anything on it, like movies or music? Did you create a nand backup before flashing? Those can take up like 1GB of space. Do you use a lot of apps?

Let me get this straight...
Your taking about your micro sd card right? Is it the 8GB one, or did you swap it?
You say you have nothing on it, but the ROM you downloaded right? Also you say you only have one app also.
Can you view in what's in your sd card?
I'm really trying to understand.

You nand backed up four times? Then that can be the problem consuming all your space on the SD card. About the other one idk.
Did you ever uncheck the boxes in the privacy settings in your last ROM? If not, then I really don't have a sufficient answer for you.
I still can't see how nand backing up would take up all of the space, but with all the given information. Theres not much I can say.

You can delete them. Or move them all to your computer to be safe. Just keep one handy, and restore back to it. You'll probably get your contacts back doing that.
Appreciate my help? Thank me
When you have your contacts back. Go to your Peoples app. Press the menu button, select import/export. Then your going to select export to sd card. Select the export to phone and google options. So next time if they go missing, you just import them.

Do you know which folder they are in? If you do, then you just go to the folder and right click it. Select whatever option your going to do then voila! Your good to go.
Are you doing it by phone instead of using a computer? Just use astro file explorer and navigate to the folder. Long press it to bring up a list of options.
I assume you know how to move them to your pc right?

Try doing a full wipe (factory reset) before restoring the nandroid backup. If you're using the latest version of TWRP, go to the advanced settings menu, and then choose format menu. Wipe cache, data, system, and boot. DO NOT WIPE SD CARD. Then try restoring one of your backups. Make sure you have your phone unplugged when restoring and rebooting (sometimes it can be problematic when plugged in). If that doesn't work, then try flashing a new rom from scratch.
The easiest way to delete your nand backups, or store them to your computer, is to plug your phone into the computer, and choose mount as disk drive. Then navigate into your sd card, and find the TWRP folder, then choose backups, then navigate into the next folder (labeled as your phone's serial number), then you'll see your backups, which are labeled with the date and time they were created. Delete the ones you don't need, or move them to your computer for safe keeping. That should free up a good amount of space on your sd card, as each backup ends up between 800-1500mb.

/mnt/mmc/Downloaded Data

Can one of the experienced devs please tell me how I can rename the internal SD card back to Phone when mounted in a windows machine?
Currently when I connect via MTP it shows as "/mnt/mmc/Downloaded Data" instead.
I have searched and this is happening on a couple of ROMs and not just my home build.
The other option, what am I removing that is causing this?
I've the same problem. I'm on JB dragon's rom .
Can someone with the problem try this fix and see if it works for them.

I have the same problem with my Galaxy Note, this is really gonna be a problem, as I can't view all my files in PC... The files shown in PC are not complete. So if this is not solved, the only choice will be permenantly switch to Mass Storage Mode.
I got this issue after updating my own Rom from XXEMA2 to XXEMR2, the internal memory now appears as "mnt/mmc/Downloaded Data" instead of "Phone", and I doubt the solution is the storage, because restoring the EMA2 backup (with twrp) I get back the Phone label in MTP.
no other solutions out there?
Update:
after few restarts, and cleaning the MediaStorage, now it is back OK

I faced the same problem installing Phoenix rom on Samsung Galaxy Note2 and corrected this way:
1. wipe data factory reset on CWM
2. Wipe cash partition
3.format system, data on mount and storage
4. install rom through aroma installer selecting full wipe.
Hello! Wipe didn't help me in this situation, but I found another way. You need to copy the folder "kies"(system/etc) from the official firmware.

I am new to Android and recently bought a Tab2 10.1 (SCH-I915). It is rooted and I deleted the system/etc/kies folder thinking it was remnants of the stand alone Kies program that I found out is not compatible with my device after having installed it . Now I have the same problem with internal memory showing up as /mnt/mmc/Downloaded Data. when connected to PC. Can someone send me a copy of the system/etc/kies folder so I can replace it?
I looked for a stock firmware for this tablet and can not find one to extract the folder from. I tried the firmware for a SCH-I925 but the folder contains different files and does not correct the problem.
I also did a factory reset but that did not replace/re-install the folder. It needs to be from a SCH-I915 model I suppose, Please help, If you have a SCH-I915 and could copy the entire folder and send it as an email attachment or .zip/.rar or if someone has found a place to download the SCH-I915 firmware I can extract it myself......
I know this thread is a bit older but hoping someone has a solution as this is the only place I found with any information about this.
Thanks for your time

[Q] Major Issues!!!

I have done all the things in this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2632730
Everything "seemed" fine until I tried using WiFi, I actually have to hit the wifi button and then restart my phone for the wifi to actually work, weird...
Besides that, the phone has just been restarting itself and it's happening more and more. And lately, it's wicked slow with just about everything I try to do... its just super glitchy. So I thought that maybe starting from scratch would be the best way to make things right, and then re-root...
But doing this caused many questions while reading through the forum and I'm hoping that someone can help point me in the right direction...
I guess the most important questions are:
Do I wipe the phone and do a clean install, going back to stock first?
If so, because I have followed the instructions in the link above, what are the exact steps so that I don't brick it?
Should I just buy a new phone?
If I did a clean install and then re-root will it run better than it is now?
I have many more questions but I think answering these first will help out a lot...
Thanks to whoever can help me out...
Android Version 4.3
Baseband Version I605VRUEMJ9
Kernel Version 3.0.31
Build Number JSS15J.I605VRUEMJ9
Edit: I installed the new Dodol Launcher and miraculously my WiFi is working again! So I uninstalled the Nova Launcher... I am happy that I can toggle my wifi settings once again =) But I read something extremely upsetting about 2mins ago in regards to the people with unlimited data which I have, and that is, we cannot use third party apps to tether the hotspot if we did the 4.3 update!!!??? Does anyone know if this is true? I thought that I couldn't tether because my phone is somehow screwed up, not because they blocked me from using it...

Thanks lacoursiere18!
After I get back to ramc3 and reunlock do you know how can I stop the OTA from popping up and trying to get me to install it? I want to be able to tether a mobile hotspot, so I need to stay on this one (because of the unlimited data), I think...?
On another note (no pun intended), I was starting the backup process and noticed that the phone has 10.3GB of internal storage, but when I add up all the folders it only amounts to 2.24GB! Does that mean that the OS is taking up 8GB!??? It just seems like a bit much and I can't see anything, there were no hidden folders or system files that I could find either... weird...
To stop the nag on the update use titanium backup to freeze SDM 1.0

Try backing up your data and then reformat it through your phone settings. If that doesn't work you might want to reflash the ROM. Or go into the settings and remount it that way. But if it worked fine before you flashed the ROM I would reflash....

I had no luck with the memory card back up because I had to format my sd card as expat for version 22. Do you know of any way I could email the developer of my Rom to see if there is a fix or update on the way to fix this. It says I have to wait to have 10 posts.

It has to be the something to do with the format of the memory card and the ROM. My twrp recovery reads that all of my stuff is still there. It's just the version of the ROM that doesn't. Any ideas?

[Q] Lost contacts after flash rom

my phone suddenly stuck on logo and it was STOCK...so i rooted it and flaash custom rom without wipe...now i have 0 contacts ((((( ....0 messages....i don't even remember my google password...how i can recovery all of these? PLSSS
Recover your google account password to see if you can sync them back. Otherwise, that's it, you don't have a backup, so not sure what you want to do.
I thought I can find a way to restore them because I didn't deleted anything... Just flashed another rom....

Flashing a custom rom without wipes is usually a no go. If you didn't end up with a bootloop it's most probably because the zip made the necesary wipes, or it deleted the stock messaging and contact apps before replacing them with the rom's own apps.

Perhaps it's a blessing that it wiped. Dealing with a bloop would be harder imo

Yeah lol.
I lost all contacts when I sold my old phone without backing up contacts.
But if you had the sim on non-android phone before (like me), maybe some of the contacts are still stored there?
