i just wanted to ask if it is possible to re-partition /system and /data partition .. i am thinking of pulling some of /system memory and add it to /data because my system has around 60mb+ more free memory which i can't use while my /data is only less than 20mb free and its irritating to see the low memory notification ..
or is it possible to pull some of /cache memory and add it to /data ?
thanks

Try using scripts like CronMod to increase you internal memory. All you need is a rooted phone and an SD Card with ext partition. You can create an ext partition from CWM (Advanced> Partition SD card> Size (maximum 1GB)>Cache (0MB)). Make sure to backup your SD card before you create the ext partition. Here is the link to the script,
Cronmod Unofficial / Data2sdext

i found CronMod a couple of days ago, well i tried Data2Ext .. when i installed it my phone was 80% more laggy, i don't know why .. but i kinda like it more since it shows the sd-ext partition on the app manager instead of the original device storage .. but still, i'll try cronmod
also, it says on the thread that the attached files are outdated, but the links on the post seems to be dead
also, i added facebook, facebook messenger, google play services, hangout, clean master and quickpic to the .zip of the rom so they would be pre-installed to the /system but still my device storage is only at 30~40% initial after flashing considering that the apps are installed in the /system partition
i also tried TouchWiz ROM, it's great but i haven't installed a single app yet but the /data partition seems to be 60% Loaded already ?? is there a remedy for it ? thanks
you helped me again, hit thanks :good:
by the way, will cronmod work with pre-installed apps ? i mean the system apps ?? will cronmod manage to move all of its Dalvik Cache and Data to SdExt ??

This is how CronMod works. It basically loads the /data to /sd-ext so that now /sd-ext contains all the data files. Now we mount the ext partition as the new /data mount point. Then all files in /sd-ext are moved back to /data. Since certain files like gps will not work when it is in ext partition, it is then moved back to /sd-ext. Then all the contents in /data and /sd-ext in binded so that any change in any of them is reflected to original. This is initialized every time at the boot. The reason CronMod lags is because the ext partition is loaded as the mount point for /data. Since SD card read/write operations are slower than internal memory read/write operation, /data operation will be slow. This is can be solved to a greater extend if you have a Class 8 or 10 SD card. BTW which verson did you install? If you installed CronMod by croniccorey then gps will not work. Go with CronMod Unofficial by Styke. Also this doesn't affect /system partition. Using this script will not increase the /system space. It will only increase the /data memory, so that you can install more apps and games.

Since this script moves the /data partition to your ext, none of the pre-installed apps are moved to ext partition. /system thereby system apps remains intact. I suggest you install apps like facebook, facebook messenger, google play services, hangout and clean master after you setup this script. Once you install an app as system app, it can never be moved to ext partition. Hope I Helped

LOL I explained everything in detail thinking that you will understand. Long story short, CronMod script basically moves /data to ext partition. Since all the system and user application's dalvik cache is present in /data, Yes, it will be moved to ext. Nothing in /system will be moved to ext partition. All system apps are present at /system/app, so it can't be moved. User apps that you install goes to /data/app, so those will be moved. Also download the latest version from the "Attached Files" section in the same link. It works. Before you buy a new SD Card, try this in your current SD Card. See if it lags a lot. I might have an another solution. If that too doesn't work, you can buy a new SD Card. Do post the result. Hope I Helped

Are you using any other data2ext scripts currently apart from CronMod? Usually installing CronMod on a device that already has a data2ext script will give this error. Make sure to delete all other data2ext scripts if present. Since you are stuck at boot screen, you will have to reflash the rom. Make sure to do Mounts and Storage>Format /system before flashing the new rom. There are two ways by which you can install CronMod. First one is by flashing the zip from CWM (in that case you have to mount /system before flashing). Second one is the easiest one. Just extract the CronMod zip file. You will get a file 40int2ext in /system/etc/init.d/. Now extract the rom that you are going to flash, put the file 40int2ext in /system/etc/init.d/ and then compress it back. Done! Now flash the rom and you are good to go. Try the second method. Make sure you have an ext partition and the rom has init.d support (all custom roms has init.d support). If that method doesn't work or devices lags like hell, then post here and I'll be glad to share the other method. Hope I Helped

First of all make backup in xRecovery
Install app2sd through xRecovery - install custom zip
ext2 or ext3 or ext4 partition on SDcard needed
After app2sd installed, don´t turn the phone on without SD card with installed apps inserted, until it is really necessary
First boot after installation takes longer, depending on the amount of installed apps
If you make backup with xRecovery after installation -
- your personal data and setting of your apps will be backed up
- installed apps will no longer be backed up, but still remaining in the ext partition on SD card
If some app won´t work correctly, please reinstall the app from Market or from the file browser (rootexplorer) - you can find your apps in /system/sd/app directory
Compatible with JIT?
Yes, it is.

Ok... now it´s on megaupload.
Installed it, how can i check it? This is my first app2sd try
Sent from my E10i
In rootexplorer, /data/app - shows used and remaining space, added together it should be size of your ext partition.
Ok at first i didnt have a ext2 partition.
Now i have formated my sd card and app2sd seems to waork, my problem is after installing the uptade.zip my phone reboots and at first it shows all the apps in menu then they dissapear, i think theyre transfered to sd card. and then i can do nothing just have the standart apps, appbrain doeasnt works, cant start root explorer etc... but all m apps appera in the menu for deinstallation. Hope you can help me
EDIT//
after another restart everything seems to work fine
I am glad to hear that
Works well with my previous ext2 partition.
I already had app2sd working, and it still works this way.
I'm now trying a new sdcard. I formatted an ext4 partition in ubuntu, but the phone enters into an eternal loop. Don't know why, but it seams that it is not recognizing the partition.
Any Ideas?
Regards
Use ext3,for mini is better - stable
I made ext4 partition making first ext3 and then ext4 manually in xrecovery through adb with this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534714 and its stable.
But maybe ext3 is faster with our kernel. Dont know, didnt compared.

This sounds awesome but does this mean that I can have apps on ext2 + ext 3 which means double the amount of apps?
NO.On ext3 is better performance.
No, but you can double the amount of partition size
Nice so say I've doubled it, will it increase the amount of apps I can put on my mini? just want to know a bit more about this

THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!
now i have a question, i got a 1gb ext2 partition, would it be better when i format it in ext3 or ext4 ? i dont know wich class the microsd card is, its a 8gb....
I have ext4 but few people said ext3 has better performance.
I had no time yet, to try ext3.
I think 1 GB is too much, because there are still some data, that are stored in internal memory and when you run out of internal memory, remaining place in ext partition is unused.
500 MB is enough, this is not high-end phone and too many apps means more slowness and less stability, i think.

Following from this thread, I finally partitioned my sd card and had link2sd installed in my ace.

I moved my apps using apps2sd. I found out there are some remaining data in the phone. Are those data : dalvik-cache (.dex) file and lib files (.so) ? Or those are the game saves data. So, if i use Link2SD, i can completely move those data to sd?
It shows an error when I try to start it.. I could not link any of the apps.

did u create both partition as primary?
btw i still think link2sd is buggy and annoying. at least in my experience. sometimes it fails to mount partition during booting and just prompt to reboot, or the moved app wouldnt even show in app drawer.
A2SD works perfectly for me.. There aren't many functions as Link2SD but it does the job..

Yes, both are primary as guided from the thread. :S
So any other than link2sd that can fully move an apps including it's data etc. My internal memory getting full soon.
Pahan88, is App2SD free same thing as A2SD?
here if we said a2sd or app2sd it generally means dartremore a2sd. u need to be rooted, and if ur on gingerbread u need to use kernel which support init.d script which is ketut's cfroot kernel. darktremore a2sd can move apps, data and dalvik cache to sdcard
edited: sorry, just realize ur thread title said cm7 kang. ur already rooted and using cfroot. u just need to flash darktremore a2sd via recovery
Thanks.. Do you mind showing me the right thread? I did a search and there are so many threads about it.. I dont even know which one is the right one.
partition ur sdcard with two partition, both primary. 1st partition as fat32 and 2nd partition as ext2/ext3/ext4
get the flashable zip file from its thread here
put it in sdcard, boot into cwm and choose to mount system and mount data.
choose to install zip from sdcard and flash the earlier zip file.
get terminal emulator from market, open it and do
Code:

and ur phone will reboot.
when it boot up, open terminal again and do
Code:
su
a2sd cachesdreset
to move dalvik cache to sdcard, or

Sorry, but Yea its that simple But if your a frequent backup/restorer kind of person, using advanced mode may get very confusing and you will get force closes as it brings anything you moved to SD-EXT. Don't worry about the Cache size and ext4 journaling in the settings.
to use link2sd with CM7 KANG rom .just mount the second partition as ext3 format.link2sd will work.

Try these steps
1. Make an ext3 partition of your desired size on your sd card using a pc partitioning tool called minitool and put it back in your phone.
2. Install an app called link2sd and launch it.
3. Select ext3 when the app asks for which type of partition the mount scripts need to be created.
4. Reboot the phone.
5. Again launch the app and this time if it shows the change log, the mount scripts are installed correctly.
6. Select the apps you want and create links. You can link the app as well as its dalvik cache.
7. You can even set the app to create links automatically when you install a new app.
8. All the linked apps will be in the sd ext3 partition and best thing is that widget apps too will work.
Hope this helps you.

Hello all,
few days ag I asked how to move internal apps to SD with Titanium Backups. Hitesh2626 recommeded me to use another method : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2082465 and I did so.
I've followed the guide but I did not succeed and I think I konw why: when I run CWM I don't have any /sd-ext partition.
I've followed all the steps under "Partition SD Card" , and I've used ext2 for formatting the new "memory" .
Anyone has had the same problem? Anyone could help me to find what am I doing wrong?
TIA,

Hello, first of all, thanks for your answer.
I guess you are talking about step 11, just after chossing the filesystem type:
10) First , Choose ext2. If it don't work then restart Link2SD and when then don't choose ext2 but ext4. ( Don't worry , it works )
11) It will say mount script created. Reboot your phone now.

If so, yes, after chossing ext2 it does not complain. After reboot I see a second partition "/data/sdext2" : Total:0.89GB used 64,91MB Free: 850MB.
(is it ext2? If I plug the mobile into my linux box it says it's FAT32):
Code:
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdc1 1 13564453 6782226+ c W95 FAT32 (LBA)
/dev/sdc2 13564454 15564799 1000173 83 Linux
Teh "problem" comes when doing "Placing the 2nd partition of SD Card to internal." :
18) Foramt /data /sd-ext /system
Click to collapse
I don't have that "/sd-ext" partition, so I cannot format it.
But I've continued with the manual and tried to install an app (whatsapp). Now Link2sd says that the app has been linked, the /data/sdext2 partitoin now shows 85,97MB used but when I go to apps, manage apps, I see that my mem has decreased in ~ 20 MB . Is that the expected behaivour?
This I explain myself clear? if not, sorry but I'm newb to this world

Yes, that's how Link2SD works. It will link the data associated with the app to ext partition. If you go to the Settings> Storage, you will see that the total internal memory remains the same. But you can still see the available memory has increased due to linking to ext. To see how much of the ext partition is used, just go to Link2SD> Storage. Now if you are not satisfied with Link2SD, you can try the CronMod Unofficial. First backup all the SD Card data. Also if you want to try CronMod Unofficial after installing Link2SD, it better to flash the custom rom again after formatting /system and /data from CWM. This will get rid of all Link2SD files which can otherwise mess with CronMod Official. Now go to CWM> Format /sdcard. This will delete the ext partition. Now CWM> Advanced> Partition SD Card> Size (Max 1GB, anymore and system will lag)> Swap (0MB) and wait for it to say "Partitioning done". Now download and place CronMod Unofficial to SD Card. Now again go to CWM> Mounts & Storage> Mount /system then flash the Cronmod Unofficial zip from CWM and finally unmount /system. Reboot and you are good to go. 1. Yes with this method you'll be able to install all apps to the ext partition of the SD Card as long as you have free space on ext partition
2. Flashing the desired script refers to flashing the script in question, i.e., CronMod Unofficial
3. Can you tell me what happens when you try Mounts & Storage> Format /sd-ext? CronMod uses you ext partition even if you don't format it. Its not compulsory and CronMod should work fine.
Sorry for the late reply. If you have anymore doubt, post here. I'll be glad to help

1. Yes with this method you'll be able to install all apps to the ext partition of the SD Card as long as you have free space on ext partition

Great. But since yesterday I've been experience speed "problems". I'm wondering if makes snes to gain space but lose speed... Maybe I try and decide with this new method. (Maybe the ROM also affects? ace-i-sure 8 to 12 could cause such speed issues?)

You don't have to apologise!! Many thanks for your detailed answers and for your time!!

Hi,
after a couple of days I've seen that the speed problems do not compensate teh fact of having more apps installed, so I'm not going to try this new approach.
I've re-flashed the rom without using externad SD and it's running really fine.
Many thanks for your help dude!

Glad I could help And yes irrespective of what method you choose to increase the internal memory, there will always be a lag after you exceed a certain number of app install. This is because in all cases the /data is moved to ext partition of the SD Card. SD Card R/W speed is always lesser than internal memory R/W speed. You can control this lag to a certain extend by using class 8 or higher SD Card and only installing necessary apps.
First, english is not my native language, so mistakes can occur
i've installed bieltv.3's CM9 for my Ace-i and it looks great, very smooth. But there're 2 things i don't like.
- The dialer app can't call to anyone. The others only receive calls from my ace but i can't do anything: Try to stop the call, turn back to the launcher by pressing home button, etc
- The google play store always show error 491. I tried many solutions such as deleting and readding google account, clear cache, reinstall it. None works
That's all. And i only can say thanks to anyone who help me with this becuz i'm Vietnamese
CM9 will never be stable for daily use. Bieltv.3 stopped development of it. CM11 has the basic functions working, except the moderate lag it has.
There is a help section for this matter and KAGE is right , dump it in favor of either cm11 or cm7 roms for more stable environments . However some bugs are common among CM's though , due to the fact drivers never been published and other things .
For Google play error 491 have you done the following process , after deleting your Gmail account (delete the Google Play updates too, if you have on your system) :
settings>>Apps>>All> Force stop, Clear data and cache for Google Play Store, Google Service Framework and Download Manager
Reboot your device and add you account ?
Second quick method was about clearing both cache and Dalvik cache through CWM ,, assuming you have done it correctly though .
Another solution which might work for your CyanogenMod 9.1 - BroadcomCM Beta 5 is a specific library and a binary was not included in the ROM ( fixed by Nightly Coder ) :
- Added libdrmframework_jni.so to /system/lib
- Added drmserver to /system/bin
Uninstall your old Google Apps package with the App Manager of the ES File Explorer ( i.e: GoogleApps_GearCM_CM9_20140711) and rest of the instruction from here and here ,, Follow them carefully to resolve your 491 error .
Hope i di help U and next time make your topic @ proper sub forum ( Help section not general part ).
I know and now I'm using cm11 now. It's not so smooth as cm9 and stock GB but it's still so cool. For now I only got 10.23mb left on /system partition because the cm11 was too heavy to put in with other flashable apps even GAPPS. Thanks u guys for advising me. Sorry for bad English

For your CM11 , you can get yourself some extra storage by implanting modified version of S2E script/app from this topic .
Here is the installation and guideline process for your convenience mate :
1. Download and install S2E
2 .Reboot in CWM recovery
3. Go to advanced>partition SD card>choose size (512mb or 1024mb)
4. After that choose ext 4 then choose 0mb as swap partition and continue
4. After this is done go to mount and storage and format sd-ext there
5. Reboot your device
6. Open up the S2E app you should see now that it will give you GUI or a menu and can choose 'Applications' and 'Dalvik cache' to send to you sd-ext
7. After doing all that reboot your phone and your done
Hope I did help You

Link to the apk/script clearly stated , it was modified for CM11 only , but you can get the general stance of the app/script from play store as well . If you got any problem after you planted it inside your CM11 , please notify me for further assistance .

Ok, now i'm using modded s2e from psyke83. It running well, but there's no option that it will mount /system to /sd-ext, only for the /data partition.

SD card has a serious low read and write access in comparison with your internal Nand flash memory , so imagine what will happen to your critical functioning parts of your OS when whole /system partition being transferred into your /SD-ext lol
You just created an ext4 partition on your SD card and used S2E to move your apps and free up internal phone memory , which is the purpose of this mod by moving your Dalvik and applications .
The ext4 partition is mounted as /sd-ext, with directories /mount points for apps, Dalvik cache. The data existing on the internal /data/app, /data/Dalvik-cache, etc, is moved to these new directories and the directories mounted within the /data file system structure of the phone without any effect on your speed and stability of your system. Thus, the phone is using the stuff on /sd-ext ( the ones i instructed )just as it used to use stuff within internal memory.
Hope i Did Help You
