I updated to 4.4.2 via OTA today and I wanted to go back to 4.3. I used Odin to try and recover to 4.3 but it failed multiple times. Now I am screwed because the 4.4.2 recovery for Odin isn't out so my phone is a paperweight until it does. Any idea when it will be out? Thanks
I've tried many different ways of trying to fix it but have yet to prevail.

generally speaking, once you have taken an OTA firmware update you can't go back.....thats why we have warned those you wish to keep root not to take the OTA until a method (if possible) is found to root stock 4.4 kitkat

Yes I understand that now. It is just so unfortunate that of all times I try to update it literally just comes out and no possible way to flash stock version of it.
I've unbricked my phone before with 4.3 I just hope a 4.4.2 version will come out to use with Odin...

Its a verizon note 2 i used the toolkit method to root. If this has happend and been solved a point to the right thread would be great..... Ive seen people say to flash then wipe it and what not, really need a tutorial that abc's it since its my first time. I thought i had it when i used the toolkit to do the odin download + bootrecovery option but it says my phone is not in usb debugging mode and i cant boot into the os to turn it on.... Help please. Why are people wanting to go back to 4.1 from 4.3? I saw a vast improvement in my note's performance and can't see a reason as to what you would be loosing/gaining by traveling back.

OOOO
I see. So accepting a verizon OTA unroots your phone and makes it so you can't put a custom bootloader on it anymore. That sucks. But if you never took the actual OTA then you are good to go with a bootloader is what you are basically sating?

yep, that's the way out. I had exaclty the same issue after trying to use CF-autoroot on stock MJ4 update. FYI after using odin to get TWRP back i also could not flash freeza's MJ4 as I had wiped system, data, davlik and cache also I had to restore a nandroid then factory reset in order to flash MJ4. One bug with freeza's MJ4 is your wifi passwords won't stick. However MI5 works fine with MJ4 firmware and does not have the wifi password issue. Probably more than you wanted to know but that's it in a nutshell.

Thanks for the advice. So after I installed TWRP everything came back online. Currently working on a new rom for this device. Hoping I can bring Bonsai to our SN3...
I was able to use Knox de la vega method to downgrade from MJ4 to MI3. I used odin to flash both the AP file and the CSC file for the sprint MI3 and it worked like a charm but did flip my knox counter

I did but it screwed everything up. The baseband was still MJ4 but the build number was MI3 and I kept getting pen input errors and everything slowed down so much that it was pretty much not usable. I finally took it into another sprint store and was able to get it swapped out with a new one after adding insurance to it. This time I made sure not to upgrade yet to MJ4 to prevent screwing up my phone again. For some reason I was able to use both the MD5 and CSC files for MI3 to flash that in Odin but again it royally screwed it up.

Question about a firmware upgrade that is available. Now I just bought my Note 3 this past Wednesday and immediately got notification of a software update for the firmware. Knowing the issues taking a software update can sometimes cause, I haven't taken it. The phone is MI5. so should I not touch the update or what? I haven't rooted because I haven't had a chance, still figuring out the right steps and what, if anything, may be needed. Help with that would be welcomed as well.

The quote by insane209 is exactly that.
OTA can update the bootloader making rooting without tripping KNOX impossible.

Who said you can't have both?
If you were smart enough, you would have responded with URDLV to patch the ROM and root without KNOX and MobileODIN to further upgrade the ROM without changing the old bootloader (which doesn't have anything to do with bugs)
But no.

Ok, thanks for the input. Just wanted to ask to make sure.
Hi all,
I recently got the S4 on Verizon at Best Buy as part of a Black Friday deal. On my way home, it downloaded the update to Android 4.3 (build VRUEMJ7). Not seeing that, I noticed it had downloaded new software, so I chose to update it. >.< I was hoping to root the phone so I could get rid of all the Verizon bloatware ASAP. I'm unaware if there's a legitimate root for this build currently available, so I'm wondering if there's a way I can reinstall 4.2.2 or flash the stock firmware even though my phone isn't rooted.
Many thanks,
Sam

It's been stated many, many, many times. Once you take an update, there is NO way to go back. With 4.3 your only option is root with vRoot (and maybe Kingo). No custom recovery, no Safestrap and no ROMs.

Thanks,
I came from Galaxy Nexus. What a Pain to get out of a softbrick. Overall happy with the phone it gets me through a day instead of 4 to 6 hrs.. Have root and tether mod pretty much all I need. I did do a lot of searching but since I just got the phone I have missed allot of the buried posts about going backwards did finally see some though. I'd rather have 4.3 anyway for working bluetooth song tagging unless that worked on this phone on 4.2.2.
Only reason I wanted to go back was to use the ota root method instead of vroot.
Okay guys so I got my S4 for Christmas as an upgrade from an S3. I love it. Its a beast and it is just amazing. Here's my problem, after a bunch of head scratching and reading, I finally found out how I was supposed to root it while running the latest jail cell of an update, MK2. The only thing I did to my phone is root it. No custom recovery or anything. Now that the android 4.4.2 update is coming soon, I really want to update to it, but obviously I can't just take the OTA when it comes out, so I need to go back to stock, no root, nothing, the thing is I have no idea how to safely do it and I have very bad dyslexia so keeping track of all the threads that tell me what to do is impossible for me. Can someone please give me a simple step by step on how to do go back to stock? And where I can get the firmware from?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
My recommendation would be to search the Samsung website for an MK2 Odin.tar stock firmware image for your s4. If you can't find it there then I recommend looking on XDA for a no data wipe MK2 image. Once the OTA hits for 4.4.2 touchwiz KitKat I recommend you wait for the devs to find a root exploit for it. Or if you don't mind spending a few bucks you could buy super su pro and enable root survival mode and it keeps root over an ota. But I'll see if I can link you to a non data wipe stock MK2 image.

Here are the stock MK2 images just in case. There are full data wipes and no data wipes available. Hope I was able to help!

Please understand that currently there is no way to root KitKat on bootloader locked devices.
Yes, you can restore a no-wipe MK2 ROM and return to stock, then take the 4.4 update when it's rolled out, but you may be stuck on stock for good if you do that.

Hey all...been a long time since I've been back in the forums but have been relatively pleased with this Nebula rom on my Note. However, now that I'm 2 Android versions behind I wanted to check in to see if I have any options to upgrade to a newer/better ROM like Cyanogenmod. Since I'm running MJ9 I just don't know if I'm just plain stuck unless I wanted to go to the official Verizon Kitkat update.
Thanks all,
Gary

nvm i assumed you have an unlocked bootloader. GL.
No worries. However, what do you think? Should I update to kit kat and try ghetto root or stay at 4.3?
