lost root with ota - HTC Droid DNA

I updated my DNA to 4.4.2 and it still says unlocked and s-off on my boot loader screen but apparently I don't have root... And my laptop just crapped out the motherboard so I am wondering if there is any other way to gain root access and install a custom recovery without a computer since I can't install superuser from my phone itself?

Just flash from recovery SuperSu http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94.zip
Flash recovery from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.s0up.goomanager&hl=en

Neither of them will work for me. Gooim manager says "attempting to reboot to recovery and if this fails you should do so manually" after a few minutes it doesn't reboot so I reboot manually (vol-down and power) and it reboots to stock recovery and does nothing.

If you are s-off and unlocked your're rooted, mean you just need flash Superuser updated
from recovery. try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.rommanager&hl=en

I'm in the same situation, took the update and lost root. Weaksauce says I'm rooted but any app requiring root access says I'm not rooted. Also, ever since the update I can't get into recovery. Has the method been changed?

I used an ruu to bring mine to stock 4.2.2 then grabbed the ota. If u can get the ruu and bring yours back to 4.2.2 then u can unlock with rumrunner and get the 4.4.2 rooted version that Santod40 put out Thursday. I would do it but my laptop fried the motherboard lol

You are probably used to the one-click everything. Installs recovery, s-off, unlock bootloader and root.
What you did, sounds like JUST root. Next step for you would be to unlock the bootloader via HTCDEv. Once you do that you can install a custom recovery.
That's the current state of options right now.

Is anyone having problems with rom manager in recover. I've rooted my HTC EVO LTE and unlocked the boot loader with HTC DEV. Then flashed recovery from rom manager. Then when I start recovery, rom manger recovery loads, but when ever I choose an option it goes no where and just sits with the hat. None of the options like reboot system, install zip from Sd-card, or advanced work. All of them take me to a black screen with hat and don't take me anywhere. What am I doing wrong. Any suggestions?
Attached is the error file that I get when I attempt to use recovery.
Do I need to partition my Sd-card in order to get it to work. It's been a long time since I did this, I can't remember if I need to do this in order to get it to work?

Help - Recovery not working and me no smart

I am very new to this and did something as my friend said, really stupid. I rooted my Evo LTE with the one click root method. This installed TWRP Recovery. After a few days I found a ROM I wanted to install. I installed ROM manager and along with this it installed Clockworkmod. I tried to install the rom from the zip I put on the root but clockwork opens up as my recovery instead of TWRP and does not run any commands. So after trying to get clockwordmod to work and couldn't... I decided to unroot phone and just re-root (yes very stupid). So after unrooting via SuperUser, I tried to install the RUU and it would'nt install as bootloader/recovery not work. I have no clue what to do
Are you running the ruu on your pc? It's not something you flash on your phone.
"We're coming from a pure power source"
cwm recovery dont work on the evo LTE.. u have to flash the twrp 2.2.0 recovery.. yea the ruu is like a tool.. plug ya phone in and run it.. very easy

You have to relock your bootloader to run an ruu.

Try to flash TWRP again. If your able to do this then running a ruu is not nessary. As stated before clockworkmod recovery has problems on the Evo LTE.

Thank you thank you, I was able to relock the bootloader last night. Tonight I will try and reflash TWRP. This has been a good learning experience so far. At least i didn't brick the phone As the phone is no longer rooted do i need to root it as part of my flashing TWRP? The one click root method installs TWRP as part of the whole process.

You do not need to be rooted to flash a recovery but your bootloader needs to be unlocked. If your unlocking your bootloader using htcdev method then you don't need to be rooted. If your unlocking your bootloader using lazypanda method then you need root or temp root before you can run lazypanda.

Your bootloader needs to be unlocked to use custom recoverys. You should only be relocking when your trying to run a ruu or to get OTA updates to my knowledge. Some one correct me if i am wrong.

Old relocked, s-on rezound, not sure if on stock rom

A long time ago I rooted my phone, and I think I installed a new ROM on it.
Some time after that I decided I just wanted everything back to stock, so I took off root and re-locked the phone. (In hboot my phone says s-on and **relocked**)
As of late I have the need to get some kind of tethering app working so I was trying to unlock and root my phone again. The way I saw to do it was to use this link http://unlimited.io/jb_vigor.htm
I went ahead and set up my laptop to dual boot into Ubuntu, and have all the other prereqs done, but I'm not sure if I ever went back to the stock ROM on my rezound.
I followed the instructions on this page http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/08/15/exclusive-download-full-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/
But received this an error saying "hboot main version is older, update failed"
I'd like to think I'm pretty capable with this stuff but I'll be honest, I'm not exactly sure where this leaves me.

Then You can install a rom the same way. Just remember since you are S-on, extract the Boot.img from the rom and Place in your fastboot folder,
and fastboot flash it or it will not boot.
"fastboot flash boot boot.img"
If you want a rom just to tether with, any Sense rom should work.

Looking in the stock RUU I downloaded there is no Boot.img, and there is no kernel folder (I found the directions here http://androidforums.com/rezound-all-things-root/499172-how-manually-flash-roms.html#post3933400 ) The only thing I want to do is tether. Do I need s-off for that? The only reason I'm loading up this RUU (or ROM, not sure which it is) is so I can have the stock ROM so I can use the JuopunutBear S-OFF so I can tether. I should actually google s-off vs s-on, I really don't know the difference. Does s-off just mean rooted?
Also, I really appreciate all your help. There's no way I would have been able to figure this out on my own. Thanks.
