ROM manager at your disposal..
Install ROM manger after install it will ask to install Recovery if not present.. If you are not sure then check if you recovery or not.. by slecting the recovery version it asks after installing the app..

[Q] CM 11 EXPERIMENTAL NiGHTLY - Error status 7

------------- SOLVED! --------------
Hello all,
First of all I want to say I'm pretty new to flashing ROMs etc.
Currently I'm at stock 4.3 Jellybean and I want to flash my SGS3 to the new CM 11 ROM.
I rooted my phone following this tutorial: vvvvvv.telefoonrooten.nl/samsung/samsung-galaxy-s3-root/ (sorry if its in Dutch, but it uses the CF-Root-SGS3-v6.3 and Odin).
After I rooted I copied both the CM11 ROM and GAPPS to my external SD, I went to recovery and tried to install the new custom ROM but I got an error (status 7) and it was aborted.
Also if I try to reboot it won't boot normally as it should be but it goes back to recovery mode automatically...
I fixed to get back to Jellybean by flashing the stock rom (unrooting?) it via Odin.
Anyone else got the exact same problem as I do and knows a solution to be able to flash CM 11?
Thanks in advance,
Steelbear

please read the thirst post in a rom/kernel/whatever thread. and maybe if you havent done it already you should also read the stickies in general section.
FAQ (Read before post !!)
- If you obtain Error 7 when you tried to install ROM in CWM or TWRP
Install the latest version of CMW or TWRP

BTW latest philz touch recovery works too
Since you went back to stock and you already know how to root, I suggest you go to Play Store and download ROM Manager to help you install latest CWM recovery on your device.
Or you can simply go to CWM website, pick the version of the recovery for your phone and flash it via Odin.
Hope it helps.

Indeed it worked! I found it out myself yesterday. Went to the CWM site and downloaded the latest version (6.0.4.4.) and flashed it through Odin. But thanks for your input anyways (to all who replied) !
An alternative solution that I often use is to open the Updater Script in META-INF folder in the ROM's zip and delete first lines, where it gets device model as property.
Obviously it's an UNSAFE operation (because that lines avoid to install ROMs of other phone on mine) but when I'm sure that ROM I've downloaded is for my phone I do it and it works

please read EVERYTHING on the first post of a rom thread (btw also all other threads):
FAQ:
Q: Why do I get error code 7 when trying to flash ?
A: Because you are using old recovery. Update to the latest TWRP.

latest CWM or philz are working as well.
try to flash one of them (the latest) and reflash the rom.
sorry if this sounds a bit angry, but it's already the second time today that I answer such a question. In future please search first before asking a question
i already got the lastest cwm 6.0.3.2
can you leave me a official firmware 4.3 international please?
i can't find a twrp to flash .need help
any help ? still don't know what to do
For S3 International latest CWM is 6.0.4.3. You can easily install it through Play Store using Rom Manager(but it requires root)
Or you can go to CWM webpage , download the recovery for your model and flash it via Odin.
managed by me ,i installed cm for 4.3 and it runs perfectly ,now i have to download twrm and trying to install omni rom but later

not so just re-root ur phone from software which u used earlier and install cwm
Just because you can't get to recovery does not necessarily mean you lost root access. They are not one and the same. LGs are kind of finicky about recovery, If the built in reboot to recovery option from the Power menu is not working, you can try an app like QuickBoot or via adb commands from the computer, or via the hardware buttons like so: http://itechtriad.com/articles/2014/2/27/how-to-reboot-lg-g2-into-recovery-mode#.U14kH_ldWSo
If you actually have lost your recovery (which is unlikely because CM would not change that), and still have root access when booted up with CM - you should - then grab Flashify from the Play Store, put your favorite recovery img file on your storage of the phone, and use Flashify to install the recovery for you. Very easy.

cyanogen mod question

I installed a cm based ROM on my phone, I like it. But I want to go back to kk. When I enter recovery which is now cm it gives me an error when I try install a different ROM. ROM manager says I have duel but I can only use the CyanogenMod one.

The problem with the recovery that comes with CyanogenMod lollipop is that you are very limited to what you can flash. I recommend you download multi rom, just download the application from the playstore and give it root access, check off that you want the recovery and it should do the rest, you will then have twrp recovery and you can flash a kitkat based rom from it.
I downloaded an app from the store was able to bypass cm. I then installed cm11 which had no recovery I spent 2 hours looking and saw you had replied I installed the app and it put cwm, so thank you. Not having gapps and recovery is scary. Thanks.
