[Q] Where to download CM Specific Basic Kernel v3.0 - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I use the ROM CyanogenMod 7.2 - BroadcomCM [COOPERVE] [RC 4 - 16/08/2013]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2080065
and ThunderKernel 2.1 [UPDATE 22/10/2013]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335947
and have a few issues with this combination.
I actually wanted to use the recommended kernel for this ROM which is CM Specific Basic Kernel v3.0, but I cannot find it anywhere to download.
In the thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2253010
there are only download links for version 4.0, but my phone won't boot the ROM with version 4.0 of the kernel...
I would love if bieltv.3 could offer the old version for download or if someone could point me to where I can download the old version.
Thanks!

u can use version 4
its better than v3

the post is old that's why it is saying to install V3.
But V4 is better than V3 and resolved many bugs and have faster bootup.
So my recommendation is to use v4 rather than v3

Thank you for your kind replies. The only trouble is that with v4 of the kernel my phone won't boot the ROM. It always gets stuck on the boot screen (while displaying its name Samsung GT-S5830i...". (Sorry, I forgot to mention that in my previous post...) I was hoping that with v3 I could manage to boot.
However, I might have some hardware issue. I bought the phone a few days ago for next to nothing with a shattered display glass (still usable) and immediately rooted it and installed CM7.2 RC4 without having tested the phone thoroughly on stock ROM...

This problem happened with me also.
Fix (Not official but worked for me)
After flashing the kernel mount system and date, then flash the rom.
Then do not reboot.
Again mount the system then again flash the rom.
Then reboot. (Your Problem is solved)
If your problem is solved please reply.

I think he must experiencing the 5 seconds installation. Does your installation last more or less than 5 seconds.

The flashing of CM Specific Basic Kernel v4 takes less than 5 seconds in my case. It seems more like 2 seconds. I tried several times and it definitely is shorter than 5 seconds.
I get the following output to the screen:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Flashing Kernel...
Install from sdcard complete.

When I flash ThunderKernel the process might take 1 second longer, but also less than 5 seconds.
I get the following output to the screen:

-Flashing ThunderKernel
ThunderKernel flashed!
Thanks for using ThunderKernel!

No, I did not format in ext4, I followed this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44868197
and formatted /system, /data, /cache to RFS before flashing the kernel and then the ROM. The reason was that after the first install I was not able to download anything from the Play Store. The procedure described in the post seemed to have solved the issue.

I will try that method, but first I need to do a nandroid backup as I don't want to loose all my customization.

Thank you very much for the great instructions. Just one question: I have permanent cwm recovery which I got when flashing the bieltv.3 v4 kernel for the first time on a stock phone trying to install -- I believe -- Slim ROM CM7.2. (Actually, I don't remember which guide I was following exactly.) Will your method work now that I already have a permanent cwm recovery or should I go back to stock ROM or stock recovery and then follow your instructions?

Sorry for the late reply, I was traveling without my laptop and wanted to back up everything before reflashing the ROM.
The good news: It worked! Great!
The only difference I made was to install the fix for the app store first and then the gapps package for CM7.2. When I did it the other way around, I had no play store on the phone.
Thank you all for your help!

Weird issue when flashing to CM9

Hi,
I downloaded from here:
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?dev...laxys2&type=RC
the file:
cm-9.0.0-RC2-galaxys2.zip
Went to recovery mode, chose install zip file, chose cm-9.0.0-RC2-galaxys2.zip and flashed it, rebooted the system and nothing happend, the phone took me to recovery mode again.
Where I was wrong ?
Thx.
Which recovery are you using? If it's not ClockworkMod Recovery (I should say any custom recovery) you won't be able to flash any custom ROM.

I do have CWM 3.15.
No idea why it didn't flash, and I flashed A LOT of roms including RR 2.6.1/Wanam and more.
I just wanted to feel CM9 on my phone but with no success, any ideas ?
Cwm 3 seems a bit old. Latest Siyah (which I'm currently running) has Cwm 5.
Maybe you should try with that.
Have you done ALL wipes that are necessary?

I did all the wipes, in fact I forgot to mention that I had RR 2.6.1 and after I did all the wipes I flashed to CM9, after i flashed it, I rebooted the device (since nothing happend) and only then, I saw I have a different CWR! - Yea the device booted to recovery !
I tried to flash CM9 AGAIN (with the CWR 3), it said done/completed, still nothing happend, I rebooted again and it came back to recovery, AGAIN.
Only then I flashed to Wanam 12.3 and after that to Siyah - so yea NOW I have CWM 5 and everything is working great.
I still have absolute no clue what on earth I am doing wrong ?!
I still want to flash to CM9...need all the help I can get !
No one knows if there is a solution for this issue ?
Right now I am on Wanam 12.3 rom with Siyah Kernel 3.5.2, and I want to flash to CM9.
I go to recovery do all 3 wipes, choose the zip file flash and it says 'completed' but nothing happens.
This isn't the first time I am flashing...never happend to me before!
Experienced users please do write your thoughts.
Thank you.
Try the latest Nightly. NOT RC2!

So you think the problem is ROM related, the RC2 version ?
I'll download the file, and this weekend will flash via: recovery -> install zip file from internal after the 3 wipes.
Btw, we are talking about this file correct ? :http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/jenkins/5572/cm-9-20120805-NIGHTLY-galaxys2.zip
Basically the procedure I mentioned above is correct and everything should work, right ?

Try downloading the resurrection edition (about halfway down the the first post): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20841817
Follow the instructions for the noob-proof method. It may be that you have the wrong bootloader.

First time rooting + flasing Rom (CM 9 or 10?)

Hey all,
I'm happy with my Tab 10.1 but it can be sluggish and so I decided to root it and install some kind of rom.
For rooting I found this guide on here which seems pretty simpel and useful.
But now comes the real question how do I proceed after this to instal a rom. Which one do I choose?
Is CM10 stable enough for me to try it, or should I go for stock 4.0.4?
And is there a proper guide on how to instal this?
Thanks

Error while trying to flash to JellyBean
About a week ago I flashed my P7510 (Wi-Fi) with this rom cm-10-20120728-EXPERIMENTAL-p3, I had all kind of issues, screen rotation, on the lock screen stating its charging while the battery stated its discharging even connect to the wall, etc.
I was able to go back to the backup I took before I flashed the tab, but now every time I try to flash the tab to a newer rom I get the following error:
Assert Failed: Getprop (“Ro.product.device”) = =”p4wifi”
Getprop (“Ro.product.device”) = =”p4wifi”
E: error in /SDCARD/ 31-07-12-13-30-jellybean-alpha-p4wifi-sig
Status 7
Installation aborted.
After doing a wipe of the cache and data I also get the following error:
E: unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]
Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advace.

I went with the UK ICS rom, seems to be working fine.
Otherwise you can follow this I RECOMMAND YOU CM9 MORE STABLE THAN CM10:
- Make a new download of the ROM from pershoot droidbasement
- Download the last CWM (recovery file)
- Download Gapps from goo.im
> Copy ROM and Gapps on the Tablet
> Flash the CWM with Odin 1.85 and USB cable (In PDA field)
> Boot in recovery mod (YOU SHOULD MAKE A FULL WIPE / FACTORY at this Step if you have backup of your datas otherwise tablet should freeze at boot animation)
> Choose install zip from sdcard
> Select the zip ROM and confirm the update
> Choose again install zip from sdcard
> Select the gapps zip and confirm update
> Return to the first menu of CWM and reboot system
Enjoy !

Which ROM you choose really is up to you - that's the beautiful thing about Android. Really, the sky's the limit! Well...what's available is the limit but you know what I'm saying
Do your research on the threads under Android Development - all the ROMs that are available for HC, ICS, JB, etc. Think about what YOU want out of your tablet...are you wanting to be on the cutting edge of development where you want an experimental JB that may have some bugs in it, or do you want something super stable and creamy smooth like a custom HC? Or, do you just want to speed up your stock ROM with a custom kernel?
There's SO much on here to explore. It's taken me two weeks just to get to a point where I'm comfortable flashing! I'm running CM10 right now but have been through a couple of other ROMs. Task650's Galaxy Task 14 is a great ROM too.
It's always a good idea to take a Nandroid backup once you go any further...for example I have a Nandroid backup of my unrooted image so to get back to stock I can just restore to that.
Basically when you're ready you just download the ROM of your choosing to your tab (and any required supplementary files - READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ON EACH THREAD VERY CAREFULLY). Reboot into recovery, take a backup, and follow the instructions given by the developer TO THE LETTER for installing the ROM. I highly recommend doing a full wipe of your device (cache partition, data/factory reset, Dalvik cache) before installing any new ROM to ensure you don't run into any issues.
You have all the support you need on this forum to resolve any issue you may have - just make sure you search the threads DILIGENTLY before asking questions, and post questions in the appropriate place - you should be fine!! GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!!!
I completely agree with you ... very good post!
I said CM9 because the tablet is recent and it was nice to see the result with this rom ...

Yes you can also follow this with cm9 or cm10, if you take the recovery file in the same folder than the rom (you should test cm9 first because more stable ... but it's my advice)

/system not mounting

Okay, so after I flash the CM7 kernel, everything's fine. But then when I flash CM7 RC4 OR AOSP Nightly builds, /system does not mount, Neither does /cache probably.
CM7 I tried with both kernel 2.1 and 3.0, and AOSP with only 2.1.
It shows "Ërror mounting /system!"
So, where am I going wrong? Pretty much followed the instructions clearly, yeah. And pretty sure the zip's are downloaded properly.
And, ODIN is the only fix for me.
So, please, any ideas?
Thanks!
Do you format /system, /data and /cache before flashing the ROM? Even if the ROM does it itself, format these before flashing
I don't give a f*ck from where I sent this from.

just try to flash my thread files "ALLinONE unbrick files for galaxy gt-s5830i" (if you phone is the same).
then, try to do it again, just read more carefully. Mabye your firmware is not compatible with this ROM/Kernel.
Only one problem i had with my files is cyanogen mod 7.2 newest version - my device didn't boot. But when i flashed rom based on cyanogenmod 7.2 newest version - it worked. So, don't give up

Only one problem i had with my files is cyanogen mod 7.2 newest version - my device didn't boot. But when i flashed rom based on cyanogenmod 7.2 newest version - it worked. So, don't give up

Yeah wiped everything, and yeah, I know about ODIN, been there, done that. But the problem is why can't I use the ROMs?
I have the 5830i not m or c.. Broadcom chip. So where's the problem? I wiped everything except sdcard ofc, and then mounted everything too, all from stock ROM, and CWM 5.0.2.6 I suppose.. And also the kernel flashes okay-ly, and /system mounts after that also, but just as soon as I flash CM7.2 RC04, it doesn't mount anymore.
So what do I do? On stock ROM ATM.

Reboot recovery after formatting /system, /data and /cache. Then flash the rom. If the error still appears Reboot Recovery and flash the ROM once again without going back to stock.

Going back stock rpm works for mi..

I had the same problem when I was trying to flash Biels BroadcomCM 7.2...
Although I don't remember the exact problem, I think it had something to do with the CWM recovery I was using.
Going back to Stock Rom first using the ALLinOne Package earlier mentioned worked for me too!

flashed wrong CWM

Hello
I've accidentally flashed a wrong cwm-recovery (meant for some other phone)
After the installation I've rebooted into recovery and it booted the one I already had (that's when I understood it's the wrong one)
Then I've tried to reboot back to my rom but it got stuck on the rom's loading screen
Tried to flash a new rom after using gs2RomWipe
Tried to restore from a nandroid backup
all of them gave the same result.. stuck on the loading screen
Now to my question...
If I flash a stock Rom via Odin.. will it be enough? will I be able to reroot and use my phone normally again?
Or is there an easier way maybe?
i did the same today..
all the time bootloop..
flashing same rom that i was using did not helped..
flashing some other rom helped but cant call cause phone dont see simcard..
flashing some other roms like cyanogenmod also stuck my on bootloop..
I am pretty sure you have to flash via odin.
Update...
I've flashed a stock rom via Odin but it went into a bootloop
when I've entered recovery it said E:failed to mount efs (invalid argument)
so far I've found no way to make the phone work
please help

MOUNT usb storage
Place any rom zip in the root of ex sd card
Flash it with full wipe

It doesn't work...
stock rom wont start, restored nandroid wont start, philz + new rom wont start
I have efs backup as tar.gz but didn't find a normal guide on how to use it without the phone working (i.e adb)
I'm not even sure if the problem is because of the efs missing or not but it seems to be the problem

still nothing...
and it usually takes 1-2 mins max for me
also doesn't explain why stock from odin wont work
It seems to me that I need to somehow fix the efs folder but no idea how to do that
almost all the guides I've seen about that requires the rom to work and use root explorer
the others wasn't clear enough or just not related
according to the shell commands my efs folder is empty
copying the efs folder I have on my sdcard doesn't help because it's not there after reboot
I have a tar.gz as well but not sure how to use it
can I flash the .tar via odin? or some other solution with adb/shell?
or do you think it has nothing to do with my problem?
anyone have any idea how to help me???
I've tried many different ways but my device just wont make it past the loading screen of the rom (doesn't matter which one)
I really have no idea what can cause this problem
thought that flashing stock rom via Odin should fix it but it doesn't help
I've tried some methods I've seen to fix efs problems but so far nothing helped
I'm really desperate at the moment :\
download mode and flash the cwm kernel via Odin should work.

i am facing exact same problem
and it also start with flashing cwm for kitkat
nothing working now stock or custmised rom
hope some one can help us to fix it
Any more ideas??
If I take it to my carrier company, will they be able to make it work with their official rom?

Did you get your device fixed?
OK.....just a quick thing......Odin flashing a normal single file stock firmware *may* not be the solution as it just overwrites what is already there during the flash. I will provide a link to a three part firmware that wipes the old as it flashes.....this essentially flashes the firmware onto 'pristine' memory partitions....it *might* help......
Here's the link.....
http://www.mediafire.com/?1z5ao5b6r594x45
Search for @Hopper8s Odin troubleshooting guide for instructions on how to flash it.....
Good luck.....
This might be my S2, or it might be my W...but it's definitely CM

[GUIDE]/[Q] Stock i9100 to CM11 M11

Hi All,
I recently updated my stock i9100 to CM11 M11 and I want to check if I have done all the steps correctly or if I have missed any steps out.
I first copied these four files onto a micro sd card:
PhilZ-cwm6-XWLSW-XEU-5.06.1-signed.zip
If you are following these instructions then use the correct PhilZ kernel for your stock kernel version. This is explained in the linked post.
ClockWorkMod Recovery v6.0.5.1 - Recovery_CWM_6.0.4.7_I9100.zip
Cyanogen Mod 11 M11 - cm-11-20141008-SNAPSHOT-M11-i9100.zip
Google Apps (Small) - gapps-kk-20140105-signed.zip
Then I:
Boot into stock recovery (volume up+home+power)
Install PhilZ-cwm6-XWLSW-XEU-5.06.1-signed.zip
Reboot into Philz recovery
Do a full Backup including the Preload folder by using the Custom Backup feature
Install ClockWorkMod Recovery v6.0.5.1
Reboot into CWM
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Advanced>Wipe dalvik cache
Mounts and Storage>Format /system, Format /cache, Format /storage/sdcard0, Format /boot
Install cm-11-20141008-SNAPSHOT-M11-i9100.zip
Install gapps-kk-20140105-signed.zip
Reboot and all done.
Optional Step: Flash a newer modem,
Download XXMS4 modem - modem_XXMS4.zip
Copy above zip file to SD Card
Boot into CWM Recovery and flash the modem zip file
Reboot
I found that the above newer modem slightly improved call quality and mobile download speed.
Note: Do not change RIL.
Have I done everything correctly? Have I missed anything?
I do have two issues,
When I tried - Mounts and Storage>Format /preload - it didn't work. I can't remember what the error was but it woudn't format the preload in CWMR
Memory only shows up as 791MB in About Phone.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!
You did well. More than enough.
No need to format partitions, so just ignore the error.
Memory reported is usable memory. It is ok.
Have fun with the new rom.

Thank you for the reply svbarbosa.
I had been putting off installing a custom rom and living with my laggy stock because I thought it would be tricky to install CM11, turned out it was quite simple one I figured out the correct instructions.
I'd advise anyone it give it a try!
When you have time give AOSP NeatRom a try. Is is based on Slim Rom and is the one I use.
Here is the link: [ROM][Sep 25][4.4.4] I9100 AOSP NeatROM.
Happy flashing...
Is it easier (and just as good) to use CyanogenMod Installer to install CM on the i9100?
I made a question yesterday, and would appreciate it if someone could help me:

Thank you guys.
@oldgalaxy hey, just got that i9100 device from my friend with all stock and laggy... ?
Your question was already an answer for me. I always prefer oldschool ways though they are harder. Followed your steps and... voila... Now I'm fast and stable. ??
But I was kinda curious whether it is really easier to install CM with their installer app. ?
Thanks man...

Thank you @LeroViten, I'm glad that those steps also worked for you. Also now that you have confirmed that it worked for you I am also happy that I have done things correctly, so thank you for that!
Not too sure about the CM installer, but I didn't use it because I wanted to be sure of all the steps I am doing because of the i9100 kernel bug that can hard brick the phone.

Hi,
I also just got a laggy SGS2 from a friend of mine.
And I want to reset/flash the phone in order to give it to my mother, which ROM do recommend CM11 or any other ROM (MIUI ?) ?
I would prefer to have something stable.
For CM, I saw that the last stable img was for CM10.
Thanks in advance.

I've been using CM11 M11 for the last 3 days and have found it completely stable with a slight improvement in battery life over stock.

I don't have experience of any other ROM, but I'd definitely recommend CM11 M11.

Thanks for the message @ghosty81d! Glad it worked well for you.
An additional optional step I recently did was to flash a newer modem (don't change the RIL).
I found this slightly improved call quality and mobile download speeds. The modem I flashed was XXMS4.
i have good signal and pretty ok call quality, however, it heats up moderately when using the internet..near the camera, i think i had this problem on stock rom also..signal is good full bars outside. but i wud give the modem a try n I'm completely noob on this topic..what is RIL and how do i flash this? can i flash using cwm? also can i back up my current modem? and changing modem cause any damage to phone? ty oldgalaxy, this m11 rom is good, no need pc, no need root to install it, perfectly fine procedure
WiFi always on on battery status
I'm new here and also decided to leave stock ROM how ever my battery is draining in 4 hours.... And I checkd battery status and WiFi is shwoing activity all the time but is of.... Can anyone help me?
Also if I turn the phone off and don't use the WiFi it doesn't show activity on battery status
Sorry for my english
Thanks
I am ready to install...
I downloaded all the required things to try your steps. I will try it tomorrow.
I just want to know if I need to upgrade the modem or leave it as it is? Kindly confirm.
Thanks,
Sadiq
