Ok I'm coming from a iPhone 5s it was a solid device the screen was just too small and I get bored easily. Now don't get me wrong the HTC m8 is a great device but there are some minor things that bug me enough to want to vent on here lol
1. The emoji's why are they so stupid looking coming from an iPhone I don't even know what some of my friends send me some times I can't find a text message app that replicates iPhone emoji
2. My texts have been being split and in 2 messages with the 2nd part first wtf!!!!!!!
3. I can't send videos because it says they are too big.......... This is bull**** I could send any video without an issue on my iPhone
4. Ads there's ads everywhere !!! I get so many pop ups it's crazy along with massive ads on apps
Do you guys have any suggestions? Tips? This is very frustrating
Aside from that I love my phone no other gripes but honestley if they issues don't pan out for me I'll be going back to iPhone. I kind of plan on it for the 6 but I may not be able to wait if I keep getting these annoyances.

Likewise I am coming from an iPhone. Yes.... IPhones are great. But you need to give yourself some time to get used to Android. I was on Android before. So switching back and forth is easy for me.
I don't have the issues that you seem to have. I think emojis have to do with the keyboard that you use. So try changing that. Never had the same issue with split text messages that you have. Yes in android ads are everywhere. Remember that Google is PRIMARILY a search engine company. .and how do they make money ? Yes by selling ads.

try textra...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.textra
problem solved.
The HTC keyboard supports emoji, but it is a pain to switch to it. You can install another app or keyboard
The double text is due to the sender sending a text longer than 160 characters. The iOS automatically syncs them so you never noticed it's really two text. For android, some apps don't support this so that is why you see two text.
If you root, adaway will block 99% of the ads.
It'll take getting used to, but it's not bad. You just have to tweak. Some people love to tweak and some don't.
Emoji looks fine to me. They are different because Apple will sue them if they look the same. Mms is 600k limit on Apple and Android. That is an at&t thing. IPhone will compress up to a 19 second video which is pretty much not viewable on the other end. Sms are the exact same with splitting messages. If you are using imessage on iPhone it does not split the message and does not compress video as bad. Imessage and facetime are the best things about Apple's ecosystem and it takes a minute to get used to not having them anymore. As far as ads, I only booted the stock system once to make sure phone was working before I rooted and unlocked it. Most roms have all ads and bloat removed. HTC phones are pretty much meant to be rooted as HTC are one of the only ones left who aren't locking their phones down like Apple. I'm sorry if you are not happy with your purchase but it's not an iPhone. This phone is imo the best phone to ever hit the market. It will do so much more than an iPhone could ever think of doing. Email your videos if you need to send them. There are some look alike iPhone Emoji keyboards on the play store. You can even theme it like an iPhone. Just remember you are using an android now so it will be different. Stick with it and before you know it you will smile ear to ear once you see what this thing can do.

another for textra here, but just wanted to add to make sure you also install the textra emoji plugin. it might help your pain. imo splitting sms away from hangouts is a much better experience but different than apple.
where are you seeing ads? if you tell us we might be able to help point you in a better direction.

I recommend hello sms. Google hangouts also has emoji.
You're not locked down to any particular app. If you find yourself not pleased with one of the pre installed apps - do a Google search for "best replacement xxx app"

I use ChompSMS on my phones.
1. Root your phone
2. Flash a custom Rom to remove bloat
3. install Adaway to remove ads
4. use Google Hangouts or Textra for Emoji
it sucks that you need to do all that to improve your experience,I tip my hat for iphones they are clean and no bloat, but android is just so much better you can do whatever you want with it lol give it some time and you will start to adapt trust me i use both OS's and i love em both.

Go sms is kinda buggy at times... but its the best I've encountered. I hate stock and am looking for something with a few more features... mainly the pop-up. And I've tried hancent in the past, not too much of a fan... anyone for any other suggestions?
Thanks!
I second go sms. I've used hand sent. But like go sms the best

Try Pansi SMS... It's the best, and believe me, I've tried them all.
using go sms pro here and the customization of it is endless.
go sms for me. personally, i like simple yet select features. a must-have is the popup-quick reply whenever texts are received, yet keep the simplistic/minimalistic design of the UI of the app.
but also cool since it can go from simple to super-customizable-high-tech feature messaging app. one stop, for all types of users = gosms.
I know you said you dislike the stock app but if you are looking for pop up notifications download and apply called SMS POPUP it works like a charm. Has some decent features

I've tried go sms and yeah it is a little buggy at times. Annoyed me enough to stop using it. I personally am on MIUI so I use the stock one which is very good.
A good nonstock messaging app i've used is messaging metro beta
market.android.com/details?id=com.zapnus.messaging&hl=en
You have to donate to get features but I'm a sucker for WP7 interface apps like Ubermusic. Messaging Metro is my favorite as of now (although not as complete as go sms).
I just tried Pansi and really like it. Thanks for the tip. Uses a bit more memory than I like but love the costumizations.

didn't care much for pansi. I remember chimp from way back. I'll revisit it and see whats changed. hope its better than I remember.
Well, after using Pansi over the weekend and liking the configurability of it, it has a few things that I wasn't crazy about. I am looking at ChompSMS now. Will try it for a few days and then decide.
Thanks for your suggestions here.

No worries bud. I've tried them all and it seems like so far (based on the last 4-5 days) Chomp is where it is at.
Handcent SMS here. I has pop-ups as well. Very easy to use.
Been using Chomp here for awhile now. Love it. Does exactly what I need.
go sms updated their app today. maybe it'll fix your bugs.
Does the note have a text messaging app similar to iphone? I like how my wife's iphone has all the text pop up on her screen when it is locked. Does android have a similar setup? The iphone can pop up multiple text if they are not viewed right away. Thank you. I have never had a smartphone so don't know what android has to offer.
Just go to market and look at it. They're all like **** load of apps like that.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
But does it come with a stock app like that like the iphone has? I had a smartphone for about 2 weeks last year and found out that alot of apps don't always work properly.
Handcent in the market works pretty much perfectly doing what you want. The advantage of android over IOS is that if you don't like a stock application, odds are someone has written and published one that does what you want.

I've been using GOSMS, its working for me flawlessly. No double texts issue like there was in Handcent. But that's just my preference.
Handcent is the only SMS app I use.
Thanks for the input guys. I never really.use alternative sms apps. It's actually been years since I have. I thought maybe something New would have came out. I'm going.to try go sms and search some themes

i like Go simply because I can schedule texts to send at a later time which is a really helpful way to remind people something you will forget to remind them of later
Handcent has that same feature.
never used chomp, used gosms on my old milestone because it was lighter on resources, and handcent on my other androids. handcent ftw
I'm glad I'm it the one using handcent lol, I went to check out go sms and wow that icon is HORRID!!! Do not want that thing on my homescreen =\ lol

When I first got an Android phone I tried Chomp & Handcent and both were ugly and nothing I was looking for. Found GoSMS and been using it ever since.
Love it, lots of good themes plus you can make your own.
Chomp SMS, Handcent, or GO?
I started with Handcent on my htc hero a long time ago, but then I tried GO and I really liked the theme options. Fast forward to now, GO takes up a lot of memory and it feels heavy. I haven't used chomp, but i heard that it doesnt support group messages?
Opinions?
None of the above... Go Apps have always had memory issues as well as privacy concerns and the other 2 arent all that great. Your better off staying stock. You can get popup notification apps if that's what your looking for.

I've tried Go, Handcent, Chomp and Pansy. None have been as responsive as the stock app for me. They all feel sluggish. And I really wanted them to be better, I hoped they would be. But stock is it for me.
If aesthetics are more important to you, then try Handcent. And if the stock app is slow for some reason, I'd check your General message settings and try enabling auto-deleting messages. Use SMSBackup+ and they'll be backed up to your Gmail account if you ever need them again.

I've settled on Handcent for now, but I've been wondering what some of you guys are using. I've tried a couple others, but Handcent just seems fluid and is constantly updated and supported. Lots of themes and tools to utilize, if that's your thing.
Also, in addition to what SMS app you're using, is there an SMS app that will allow "reply to all" natively? I get group texts from iPhone users and when I reply it only goes to the person that sent the message to me.

Since I started with Swiftkey for a keyboard app, I NEVER could go back to stock on any phone (or tablet) - It ruined me for anything less!
And there are some stock SMS apps I like and have used. In fact I like the one on the OG and I seriously considered sticking with it, but I switched to Handscent for purely vanity reasons. I like to put a "signature" on my texts and the stock SMS won't let me do that. I do use the stock e-mail app, however!
+1 for SMS Popup. Also the Cyanogenmod version of the stock keyboard since it has a dark theme. Haven't tried it on the LGOG yet because I haven't gotten mine, but I imagine it will work.
Well, since the stock app has a reply to all feature, I'm just running that now. Handcent had some cool stuff, but all these group texts are killing me.
I can't believe Handcent doesn't have reply to all at this point.

Many third party SMS app comes with added features that aren't available on stock apps. For me, go SMS pro has two features that I don't see in other SMS apps yet, unless they're addons, and those are inter grated lock screen for the app itself and a private chest to store all your texts that u don't want ppl to see. It has screen popup notifications too so uh don't have to constantly access your SMS app to read or reply texts but I think handcent has the same feature.

I use the stock sms and then either Swype or Swiftkey flow.
Sent from my UNLOCKED LG-E970 using xda premium
I'd live to use the stock app if only it has security integration. Just cuz the phone is locked doesn't mean ppl can't get into your phone and then read the text messages. Its an added layer of security.
Another advantage of go SMS pro (not sure if handcent has a similar feature) is that if u never delete your text messages and have literally thousands n thousands of text messages within a single contact, go SMS truncates the chain of conversations to the latest ones n if u scroll up, u can click show more messages to view older ones. This speeds up loading time when going into a conversation. Whereas in the stock app, it can take sometimes 5 or more seconds of delay since its trying to load all the old texts.
For example, my conversation with my gf has never been deleted lately, resulting in nearly 10,000 texts between the both of us. When I open our conversation in go SMS pro, it works fine. But using the stock app can take nearly 10-15 seconds n it sometimes even crash and freeze. So yeah, it can make a difference.
