If the backup was made with siyah and the present kernel isnt it, try flashing only the siyah kernel 1st and then restoring the backed-up ROM after wiping cache n data..

When making a backup with some CWM versions, you have to manually enable the backing up of the preload partition. Without the preload data, a restored OS WILL NOT BOOT.
From the symptoms you describe, I believe this is the case here.
If I am right, you have 2 options.....
1) continue to run a custom ROM.
2) start from scratch, and flash a firmware via Odin.
If I am right, any attempts you make to restore your backup with whatever CWM kernel combo you find will continue to result in a non booting phone.....

HELP-Stuck in S3 start screen

Hi
I was trying to flash the Better Brightness thing on my phone which is running Siyah Kernel rooted on stock but it bootlooped so I was stuck. I thought formating the system in CWM recovery might fix it but now it gets stuck in the Samsung Galaxy s3 screen instead of the Samsung screen.
Please I need urgent help as I desperatly need my phone.
Thanks
If you've formatted the phone, then you need to re-flash the ROM.

[Q] Please HELP!! Bricked galaxy SII i9100p

i have a galaxy s2 i9100p all rooted and stuff. i saw jellybam came out and i wanted to try it even if it wasnt for i9100p (big mistake)!! flashed it from clockworkmod recovery and i selected no kernel just install jellybam. the phone bricked, wouldnt turn on just stucked on welcome screen GALAXY SII. anyway i flashed my phone from odin with a stock firmware, it turned on and i did a restore to my previous version with rom manager and everything worked fine. but my stupid curiosity wouldnt let me so i tried jellybam again but this time i chose the siyah kernel. now i tried everything from flashing with odin the same stock firmware, repartition, to restore the backup with cwm.zip from recovery but everything is useless. my phone wont turn on!! when i restore from cwm it gets stuck at restoring data. my galaxy is i9100PXXLPF. emmc brick

hey guyz i need your helpam puzzled to the core
i was running 4.0.3 in my beloved s2 and i flashed insecure kernel for rooting ma phone
This is where it all started
i flashed a ROM from xda
some rom for s2 with s4mods, and the phone didn't boot up so i restored my nandroid backup and the phone was back on
but it couldn't detect the sim card (tried many)
then i got pissed off and i went into the recovery and did a factory reset and formatted system and data and cache just to be sure
this is where i screwed UP
i formatted the emmc instead of sdcard!!!
now my phone gets suck in s2 screen and i was not able to flash anything then after googling up i did a PIT flash that cleared the way a bit
the stock rom that i tried earlier with odin was unflashable(NAND Write )
now i could flash it with odin and it is a PASS
and i rejoiced....but then again it got stuck at S2 screen!!!!
now am able to flash anything but of no use....
tried PIT!...only the particular kernel provides me with CWM rest dont....

[Q] No Custom Rom Boots

Hi All,
Had my S3 for ever a year now all rooted succesffully and runnung wanamlite roms. all of a sudden it died - Samsung fixed it and my and sent it back however it was now on 4.3.
The problem I have now is that I am not able to boot any custom rom - I just get stuck at the samsung Galaxy GT-I9300 screen.,
Root Phone and install CWM
Check with Root Checker and its successful
installed all types of rom including Wanam 4.3 to no avail
All Stock roms including 4.1.4 work
I'm a bit stumped and any help would be appreciated - its as if my bootloader is locked
Thanks,
Jag
Die you try formatting everything including internal sdcard?
Do you have an international SIII without a simlock? Or was your SIII shipped with a simlock in the first place?
If you have a verzion SIII try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30274025&postcount=317
Ive done a clean rom install through philz cwm - im assuming this is the same as a clean install?
Im based in the uk so doubt I have a verizon model.
Thanks
You say any that presumes you have tried them all .
In recovery format sdcard system data cache boot to download mode flash stock rom or boot to recovery and flash your custom rom .
Really you should start by reading the faqs and guides first .
Hi,
Sorry for being so brief.
I have formatted sd card through mounts and storage and cache
Done a clean ROM wipe also.
Still no custom rom appears to boot - all stock roms flash fine through Odin. Restores of stock ROM are also working fine..
Then you are doing something wrong .
Start with a stock cwm rom .

[Q] S2 i9100 Restarts frequently @boot logo after Official 4.1.2 Jellybean install

Hello mates, Am no newbie to flashing ROMs but this is somehow disturbing! I updated my friends Galaxy S2 i9100 from stock 2.3.3 to 4.2.2 Paranoid Rom. The Rom was too buggy wth missing menus&crashes&finally stuck at bootloop, no safe mode, unable to enter recovery. So I decided to flash official 4.1.2 Jellybean 19100ZSMSA Odin flash was finished successfuly with no errors but after reboot the device reaches the sumsung logo&keeps rebooting frequently. Tried flashing official i9100VJMS3 4.1.2 jellybean but same results even with autoreboot unchecked. Wiping cache&factory reset doesn't help either. Am not too sure that USB debugging was enabled. I can't restore from a 2.3.3 backup i had made since previous cwm got wiped. Could this result from incompatible kernel? Kindly help out
UPDATE:
I identified the problem in recovery. " e: failed to mount /efs (Invalid argument) "
A broken efs partition was preventing the ROM from loading up. No ROM flash/kernel/CWM jigs would solve this issue. I had to repair this partition as a last resort.
Will post Solution details in a few. A long process but it worked Wonders!!!. Thanks

Try to install a custom recovery like philz touch recovery. Than after you did that, install CM11 from here: http://get.cm/get/le1
It will work like a charm
Philz Touch from here: http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/i9100/philz_touch_6.48.4-i9100.tar.md5
Flash it in odin
Giving this a shot
Thanks Tkkg for quick reply. I was considering flashing philZ CWM as well&see if I can restore the 2.3.3 backup&then reflash the official 4.1.2 jelly bean update as my friend still prefers to remain stock after that bad experience with Paranoid ROM. Was looking for a compatible PhilZ CWM stock kernel for the jellybean ROM i installed above but if this one works that will be helpful. Will report if this works
