[SOLVED] Lost USB On-board Storage - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I have LOST my onboard USB storage. For work, I needed to Encrypt my phone. I was on JellySNAP Rom. I went through the Encryption which then failed. I tried pressing the button to Reset but that didn't do anything. I was System UI Stopped messages. So I tried a reboot which brought me back to the same screen. This time, the phone rebooted and it appeared to be doing it's thing but then proceeded to get stuck in a boot loop.
I tried re-installing the JellySNAP rom which is where things started to go wrong. In Settings > Storage, for USB storage, it said about 7mb used and had the option for Mount below it. No joy pressing it
I tried wiping Cache and Dalvik - nothing
I tried formatting /system, /data, /preload etc .... from the options in Apolo Kernel - nothing
I re-installed a Stock ROM via Odin. I did a Wipe Cache / Factory Reset but the USB Storage now shows absolutely nothing. In Settings > Storage, I just have the USB STorage Heading and NOTHING under it. Directly below this heading is a heading for SD Card.
Any suggestions as to where I go next to reset everything ?
EDIT: I went in to Settings > Backup and reset > Factory data reset

[Q] Ater Odin, No storage

It all started today when I rooted my stock 2.2 and installed Voodoo.
After I installed Voodoo, my phone wouldn't boot. So I Odin'ed a stock ROM.
The Problem is, I have no internal/external storage on the phone at all!
I've tried flashing milliions of times, but no dice. Anyone know how to fix this?
EDIT:
There was a time where it showed my internal storage and I used the File manager to go in and erase the Voodoo folder and stuff. But still nothing. And everytime I check the "Re-partition" option in Odin, I get an says that Data wipe failed. I'm really stuck here guys!
EDIT2:
Now it says:
"update media, please wait
E:Can't mount /dev/block/stl10
(Invalid argument)
E:copy_dbate_media:Can't mount DBDATA:
your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions"
If I selsect "format internal sd-card" I get the same error.
boot into recovery, clear cache, do a reset and then clear dalvik the reflash 2.1JFD make sure to check repartition box, after it is done then root and then flash a custom rom of your choice

If I'm not mistaken, CWM is the only one with that option. I don't have CWM installed.
AWESOME!
Seems to have worked... I got all my storage space back.
Only problem I have is, low application storage.

[Q] Samsung Vibrant not starting. Need data backup

My phone samsung vibrant is not starting, i was using google maps and it hanged and now it goes in idle mode after S sign, nothing on screen and all touch buttons have light on them.
I was using voodoo kernel and android 2.1.
I know how to format it back, but i seriously need data backup. When i connect the phone via USB cable to pc, it hows 2 removable drives (phone and memory card) bu t i am not able to access them.
Is there any way to get the data?
Thanks
If you have CMW recovery see if you can mount your sd card to pc in recovery.
and may I say 2.1?????????????????????????????????????????????
wow I forgot the original SGS line came with eclair
I data i require is from phone memory and not from memory card, i had CMW but not sure how to use it.
I used 2.2 for a while and then shifted back to 2.1 with voodo
What options i get in CWM are
- reboot system now
- apply sdcard:update.zip
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- install zip from sdcard
- backup and restore
- mounts and storage
- advanced
-- Reboot recovery
-- wipe dalvik cache
-- wipe battery stats
-- report error
-- key test
-- partition sd card
-- fix permissions
-- +++ go back+++
- ++ go back++
is there anything from this by which i can backup my phone data?
mounts and storage
should be able to mount your internal sd and view your files.
I am not sure your device is dead either proabbly could revive it with some effort
likely an odin flash will do the trick, you would lose your apps and what not but your pictures and music etc would be kept
I tried mounts and storage
it shows me two drives but they aren't accessible, i think as you said the device is dead.
Should i go ahead with odin flash? hope it keeps my pictures, thats all i want right now.
And odin flash with just the pit file right?
where you able to mount to pc prior? Do you have correct drivers installed? as to which odin to use I would suggest asking in the vibrant section. I am coming from previous experience with the captivate which is similar but different. Maybe try a factory reset via recovery. This does not erase pictures and files but deletes all apps. If you are not concerned with losing your current set up it may be worth a shot.
hey thanks a lot for replying
i installed and tried with new drivers, the pc shows my drives but i am not able to access them.
In vibrant forum some one told me to try wipe data/factory reset but it did not help.
Trying odin flash now..hope it works

[Q] Formatting internal SDCard for resale

So soon I will be getting a Galaxy S III and I plan on selling my S II, I will be doing a Wipe/Factory reset however the internal SD card storage is always left untouch I wanted to have this wiped and clean back to the way it was when I first got it.
In the storage section of the phone they have an option that says Format USB mass storage, will doing this restore/recreate the folders and the layout of the phone to the way it was factory stock when I first got it as well as the obvious formatting it will do?. I don't want to do a format and its completely blank with no folders period.
Thanks.
OK. This is what I would do if I were selling mine; first go into CWRecovery and format cache, data, system, & internal sd card. Then flash stock rom in Odin, then use jig to reset flash counter if you like. Done.
That will give you a stock phone with nothing else on it.

Thanks but that doesn't actually answer my question, the rest of it I do know though and do so every time I flash new international firmwares. Need to know about the SDcard and what you get when you format, what folders if any?
Press volume up+ power + home key. Then clear cache, clear dalvik cache, Then factory reset. That's all it will be new but if you flashed many roms you should use a USB jig to Reset counter

Simply dialing a wipe code will do that for you, no hassle.
but tht does leave some files behind ,dosnt it...well i once formatted phone, int sd,ext sd an my phone was raw an dint even boot cause it had no os or any files , then i flashd the stock rom an it was ,"like outa the box"
but i always keep efs folder bckup ,on pc,ext hd cause its always safe...
dialing wipe code do data/cache wipe plus wipe of internal sdcard to factory defaults

[Q] Nothing Works..

Okay, so my phone wasn't sending messages all of a sudden. I have a P769 on jelly bean rooted. I restarted it and it got stuck in a bootloop over and over again after countless battery removals. I used CWM and tried to restore my backup of JB rooted, and all I got was a bunch of force closes. So I restored to my 10G rooted on ICS. All of my Google apps were gone and I went to take a picture and it said my internal memory was full and wouldn't read my SD card. I did factory resets and nothing works. I'm not sure what else to try.. any help would be appreciated!
Edit: I finally got JB to load and it would scan my SD card, then reboot itself while it was still up and running? I could see my backlights on my buttons flashing. So I took out my SD card, same thing. I wiped the cache and reformatted my SD card and now i'm getting an error message saying that my UIDs are inconsistent and it won't let me do a thing on the phone. My phone was fine 12 hours ago.. I haven't downloaded a thing or accessed anything at all.

I know the UID inconsistent error from my previous phone. Wipe data. Solves the problem.

How did you 'reformatted sdcard' ? Are you talking about internal memory(built in) or external memory (microsd)?
If you have some fresh backup system like 20x STOCK or whatever. (you can download it from XDA)
After this actions it will totally format your phone. You will no longer have system, apps, files that were on internal memory. It's kind of format C: on computer! So make sure you have backup on your external sdcard (microsd) and make sure to don't format your external sdcard.
I did it few times when I was messing around with custom ROMs so it's safe. I'm owner of P760 but don't think so if it will cause some problems.
1.Then you can go into CWM and mounts and storage and format following:
/cache
/data
/system
/sdcard - it is INTERNAL MEMORY (built in)
2.and then Advanced -> wipe dalvik cache
3. backup and restore -> restore from external sdcard -> choose your backup

I've wiped the data like the previous answer, and I also tried this.. I went into CWM and formatted all of this and wiped the dalvik cache, then tried to restore from external sdcard, which I tried my JB and ICS and neither worked. Right now I am on my JB and it just gets stuck at the T-Mobile 4G logo.
EDIT: I tried formatting everything and restoring from my external sdcard and my phone won't recognize my sdcard anymore. It says there are no files on it, but I try it on another phone and I can see the files.
I've had something along these lines before on my Huawei Honor. I never did work out what was wrong. I asked on xda and it was suggested that the partitions on the phone had resized/gone corrupt.
I'm not saying this is what has happened in your case. The sudden force closes and then no boot is what my Honor did.
Can you get software update mode to come on? Switch off, hold volume up and plug in usb from pc.

Yes I had the same problem when I upgraded from ics to jb. Never figured out what happened but I copied all my files to the computer then I formatted my external sd. After the format I just copied all the stuff back on the card. Also cwm doesn't work for the second partition. Good luck.

Can't wipe or change /data

Hi, today I encountered a severe problem.
I wanted to share a 1GB pdf file on my computer to my phone, so I put it on Dropbox. On the phone, I normally would "export to SDcard" but I saw a new option called "Make Available Offline". So I chose that and left the phone to download for about 30 mins.
Then all of a sudden, I kept getting popups "com.google.gapps" stopped responding, and suddenly all my programs kept popping up to say they've stopped responding, even programs like keyboard and titanium backup and many other programs I didn't think were even running. They were popping up at the rate of twice every second and its hard to even press "Ok". Slowly I managed to get into the Settings->Apps then noticed Dropbox has cache of 500MB and data of 200MB. I tried to clear cache, nothing happened. Tried to clear data, nothing happened. Tried the Settings->Apps->3 dots->Clear all app cache, it says 1GB cleared, but still giving me popups. I tried to uninstall Dropbox, Facebook, and other large programs, it says they're uninstalled but upon reboot they're still there. Dropbox is gone from the list, but its still in the launcher as a grey icon. Facebook everytime I press Uninstall app, the phone reboots.
Then I went into CWM recovery, chose "wipe cache" and "wipe dalvik", all it did was upon next reboot I'd have "Android isupgrading, optimising app xxx of 268".
Finally I decided to "factory reset" from CWM recovery. So I wiped data, cache and dalvik.
Upon reboot, I'm STILL back at my normal OS/launcher. Its as if /data is locked and can't be written to or something.
What do I do?
Phone is Asus Padfone A68, ROM is Android Kitkat (4.4?) standard. CWM recovery is installed, some old version that works with this phone.
I "solved" it by going into CWM/TWRP, then I repartitioned the internal storage using :
adb shell
su
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0p30
partition 1, ext2
e2fsck /dev/block/mmcblk0p30
I lost everything on my phone. No backups, the CWM and TWRP backups were in the internal storage and they're all gone.
