Hi guys! so after giving my mesmerize to my family to use, I have gotten it back. In the course of them having my phone, they took it to the carrier because they were having problems with it, so it has been flashed back to stock. I was running avatar on it. I believe 4.2.. I know that there was a way to convert fascinate roms over to mesmerize roms back then. I think I did it one time myself. it was a small little program that would do the conversion. i am interested in flashing one of these kitkat roms that you guys have over on the fascinate side. Is there an easy way to do this now? Thank you guys in advance.

yes but unfortunately 'voice dialer' does not work in any - kit kat - 4.4 - cm11 - ROM that i'm aware of , I have successfully used the program 'elixir 2' to edit the file though and posted about here if you need to search for it...
\system\etc\apns-conf.xml
this is the info that the file should need:
<apn carrier="USCC" mcc="311" mnc="220" apn="internet" mmsc="http://mmsc1.uscc.net/mmsc/MMS" authtype="3" port="80" mmsport="80" type="mms" />
then appropriately in the 'edit APNs' section, too
I know the PA ROMs since January should have the proper stuff and a built in function for the xml and an included APN editor (so no voice dialer or other programs needed) and fully functioning
also check this post out for some other information of a ROM that has the proper apn stuff as well but is slightly unstable and gives random reboots but otherwise fully functional
.

Unfortunately, a lot of this is over my head. I have learned just enough about this stuff to flash a custom recovery, flash roms, and "devil" kernel for all of the cool over clocking mods... Every rom I have used was already set up for mesmerize. All I needed to do was flash it.

I know I am going to get ripped a new one for asking this, but I DID search. I searched a LOT and all I could manage to find were older threads or Froyo information.
I rooted recently and have tried about 9 ROMs. They are all OK, but I am sick of the bugs and ugly themes. I want to do 1 of 2 things....
A. Revert back to the newest build of stock Gingerbread completely or
B. Find a ROM of gingerbread that is so close to stock that I cannot even tell it isn't except in the system info*
(*I'm talking working Visual voicemail, no GPS issues, etc.)
I know...SEARCH! But I did search, and I do not have the money to brick my phone. I need help, and although I can read previously posted material, personal experience and or a walk through would mean a lot to me.
As if I wasn't asking enough already.... I know squat about ADB and would like to flash off the SD card or through ROM Manager if at all possible. Sorry and thank you in advance.
Still lists VM bug as not fixed, but did you check out the thread here?

Thanks! This seems pretty close. I really would like to return to stock...like Verizon issued stock, or Verizon issued GB with no bloatware.
The VVM issue is a deal breaker for me. Thank you for the response!

I just downloaded the ICS ROM from team hacksung and I love the ROM, but there's only one problem: My 3G data isn't working. Wifi works, which I am using right now, but no data and I don't know why. My 3G data was working fine before I flashed to ICS (it was working in EH03 GB) I'm just wondering if anyone else has a Verizon Fascinate fully flashed to Cricket who has had the same problem and knows how to fix it or can confirm a working ICS ROM that you've used where everything including data is working?
I'm the only one in the whole forum on Cricket? Someone's gotta be able to help....
Check your settings with CDMA Workshop or QPST. Most likely all you will need to do is open QPST, do not read from phone just write the correct settings under PPP Config. If that doesn't work then here is all you need to get it up and running again.

You more than likely just need apn shortcut apk to configure your apns if it was already working as you say or you flashed a rom that changed your prl and you need you change it back. Im running CM9 ICS from Hashcode on my droid3 and it works just fine. I just had to install the cricket universal mms apk to get the picture text working but regular text works fine with the stock mms. You will need the sms fix apk also they are all found in the cricketusers.com forum I hope this helped you out but I cant post the exact link here

I never got a reply from this guy so I have no idea if we are helping him at all... He posted this on 16th February 2012. A lot of people on XDA that never reply after you try to help them these days.
Sorry about not replying. I ended up posting on the rootzwiki forum where I got the rom and someone posted an "alternate carrier data fix" .zip file that I flashed through cwm. It ended up working instantly. If anyone is interested I can post the file when I get to my computer.

Yes please do. I was just trying to get gummy ics to work and no 3G. I couldnt access phoneutil to swap usb to modem to be able to connect to qpst, then i directly installed phoneutil but swapping pda to modem didnt do anything. Started to do more research and your post came up.
Definitely need that file.

Here ya go. Just flash the .zip in cwm and reboot. This worked for me so hopefully you have the same fate.

My girlfriend asked me to turn off LTE to save battery and I remembered reading that you need a custom kernel to do that.
So, start from her stock ICS, how should I proceed?
The "Road and Ref Map" post seems to say that I should first flash CWM thru Odin then flash SU, is this the correct way to root now?
Then... which kernel shall I flash to be able to turn off LTE? Or do I actually need a custon ROM? I'm fine with flashing stuff since I've been playing with a Droid X for a year, but I'm not sure she'll agree to flash any ROM other than the stock...
Thank you very much!

You are on the right track. ..
Read read read! !!
The process is solid, but "your " knowledge is the key to a flawless root.
Take notes of the process and get your pc environment ready and then your good to go! !
Once rooted a custom rom is needed to control network...however it may be possible to toggle off the LTE function without root using a network code. ..unless you want root also. ...(i would )
Rooted custom roms are awesome. ...and i prefer the UCLF6 build from FlappJaxxx.
For code options, you'll need another user to help as i don't have them. ...and im not sure it will even work.
There are many great members here that are willing to help. ..

The stock at&t modem is locked so users cannot mess with it. If you key *#2263# you will see.
The stock Rogers modem is not restricted. Using the dialer code it is theoretically possible to toggle 4g/3//2g. To me that means it could be possible to use one of the widgets in the market to toggle. But for some reason the phone slows to a crawl after flashing this modem.
Most of the roms in the development section don't have the toggle for 4g/3g/2g. I say most because there might be one that does but I've never seen anyone mention this feature.
I would like more input here because this could give better battery performance.
Thank you all for the info! Maybe I'll just root and install some sort of stock rooted ROMs instead.
The battery life got dramatically worse after the ICS OTA: it could last a day without problem before, but now it died in the middle of her working day. I tried Better Battery Stat and found that AlarmManager kept the phone awake almost all the time, which to my knowledge didn't point to any specific problem.
Could battery life be better just by installing a debloated stock rooted ROM?
Try flashing the Canadian ROM with the Canadian radio together. It is unbranded and will look almost exactly like the ATT ROM. I have been using the complete package together (my version, not sam's version) and have experienced no slowdown experiences. I am on ATT however my phone is a Rogers Note and not an ATT note. Some users have reported a slowdown issue with the ATT I717 and a Canadian modem.

I am going to try Agoattamer's suggestion. I will post the steps and links if it does what we want.
I am unable to post to the [Rom] AOKP(Jellybean 4.2.1) | Task650 (1/22/13) (2nd Release!) thread due to being a noobie
So I am posting here hoping someone knowledgeable can clarify if this is a known issue or unique to me.
My device: i777 on T-Mobile. Previously on Task 650's AOKP 4.1.2 now on AOKP 4.2.1.
I like everything about this ROM. However, I noticed that I can no longer use my phone's Wifi-Tethering capabilities. I researched here and googled crazy and have not been able to find anything conclusive on this being a new issue/bug or an established issue.
I came across numerous posts where people seemed to loose their tethering capability with JB upgrades. In particular with the 4.2.1 upgrade. I even saw this in google's android bug reporting forums as well. Some claimed that this capability was removed as Google worked it out with the carriers. Yet many seem to be able to tether without any problems.
Hoping some one with good knowledge of this ROM can clarify if this is a ROM issue or somehow connected to my device. If it is my device appreciate suggestions on what I could do? I tried third party apps. They do not work as well.
Thanks for you time.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I rebooted, reflashed, data wipe +flash, everything that I could think of and what were suggested for some generic issues with no such luck. Do not know if revising any APN settings will do any good.
I also found the following as a solution to this problem in a galaxy nexus thread for the same problem. Do not know if it applies to i777. Any advice will be highly appreciated.
"1. use apktool to de-compile framework-res.apk
2. navigate to res/values/arrays.xml
3. open arrays.xml in a notepad editor
4. edit the line "config_tether_upstream_types" change the 4 to a 5
5. save changes and re-compile framework-res.apk
from there you will be able to tether"
i have the same issue since updating from tasks december ROM to his January 4.2.1 & now 4.2.2 (3-13-2013) ROM
i dont use it often, but want it to actually work when i go to use it.
i set it up, checked the portable wi-fi hotspot box to turn it on and the text right below it says Turning hotspot on... but never actually does anything. on the december release it started working within a few seconds.
i used root explorer to look at framework-res.apk (as mentioned above) but there is no "values" folder in the "res" folder so i cant find arrays.xml

That's actually true of any ROM thread, not just Tasks. If you alter the ROM in any way (replacing the kernel, etc), don't expect the developer to help if you encounter any problems... you're on your own, to a degree.

And I personally dont think Task has any problems with anyone flashing any other kernel. No developer has. Maybe they may not help out jus coz they dont talk bout other kernels but everyone does this to clear the issues they have. No offence.

^This! If users run into an issue with a different kernel than the one that was packaged then the support one would get would be to re flash and keep the packaged kernel. Each developer chooses their kernel for a reason

I was wondering if there was a way to flash AT&T ROM to work on the verizon model. I know how to flash international Roms but not AT&T.
For example, currently I am running Echoe 32.1 (International version), but when I try to flash Goldenfinger (AT&T) my phone calls work but I get no SMS or data.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!
Someone with ROM building (from source or porting) experience can better explain this, but the simplest answer is that because the frequencies that AT&T and T-Mobile operate on differ from those of Verizon and Sprint (typically). So the ROM you are trying to use has different radio drivers for frequencies your phone doesn't use, which results in most or all your antennas to not function. I know that at the very least you need to modify the ROM to utilize the Verizon radios. There may also be some system configurations to be altered in the install of the ROM so it's instructed to use the right frequencies, though a more qualified individual will need to verify that.
Hope that gives you a general idea.

This patch can be used to flash roms from international and other carriers. It has an aroma installer allowing to decide how much Verizon stuff you want to install, anywhere from just the APN's to the full phone & messaging apk's. Read the OP and thread to understand which patch to use and how to use it.

Yeah, unfortunately things have been weird with that patch lately. It's a mix of the dev not having time to update while everything has been getting significant updates pretty quickly and lost user interest overall. I've used that patch with AT&T roms before, but admittedly not since Jelly Bean. It should theoretically work still, but there's other variables you have to consider. All I can say is that if you're really interested in running one of those roms, read through the patch thread to see what particular aroma settings and additional zips, etc. people are using to get those roms to boot.
And Safestrap users can use that patch too. I would PM @shindiggity for assistance. He seems like a helpful guy and he uses that patch on Safestrap.

I've flashed Goldfinger and it does work. These are the steps that I do. Flash rom, patch, signal bar fix, modules and finally SU. In the patch I select minimal and everything else I leave pre selected. First boot does take a couple minutes. Let me know if that works.
