[Q] No LED notification for new e-mail - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When i receive a new e-mail message the LED doesn't get lit up. It's a hotmail.com account.
The only time i ever see the LED being lit up is when it's charging.

In Settings > Display is "Notification light" unchecked? If it is, check it, that will enable the notification light to flash from different alerts rather than just be tied to the batter. When I get an email (hotmail as well) it flashes white.

It was..
But now it seems to work, or then i missed it because the LED is so weak and it flashes with such a long interval. I expected it to be on constantly.

Flashing LED

Hi,
My XDA LED flashes green constantly when the telephone is switched on (I'm sure this in normal operation); I would guess that it flashes once every 5 seconds or so.
This morning I missed a telephone call and now the LED is flashing green, but at an increased rate - probably once every 3 seconds. I assumed that this indicates a missed call and went and cleared the missed call, checked for a new SMS and even email and my calendar; no notifications of any kind but the new flash rate is still there.
Also, is it possible to change the colour of the LED programatically when a call is missed etc (as it changes to orange when charging)? I have the settings such that a missed call, new email, SMS, etc will flash the LED.
Does anyone know what this means?
Thanks,
dont softreset make it go back to normal ?
my led flash every 5 sec
and when it's charging it's orange all the time
Mine flashers red when i have missed a call,
I got it by doing a RS upgrade and OS opgrade so not sure which on did it.
The change of LED from Green to RED for a missed call, SMS etc. is a user defined function. Go Start/Settings/Personal/Sounds & Notifications/Notifications and then scroll through the available items to configure in the 1.Select an Event scroll list.
You can set if you want the LED to blink (will auto change to RED) and for how long after the event that triggers it.

You're talking about the XDA2? The XDA might be different. Just a suggestion.
You can choose whether to flash the LED for a missed call on the XDA I as ednap has indicated.
I am not sure about the LED color change in XDA1 maybe on XDA2.

my trackball light keeps turning on and off...

my trackball light keeps turning on and off, even in standby mode... is there a way to turn it off? or is this normal with the phone?
Hi,
The flashing trackball means you've had a message, email or a missed call. You get a little icon in the top left of your screen with a red squiggle on it. When you've turned your phone on, put your finger at the top of the screen and sweep downwards and your notification screen will appear. This should tell you what event, message or call you've missed, or is waiting for you.
Hope this helps. It is a bit confusing at first.
Sometimes, even after I've completed reading all my unread texts/checked missed calls list, the trackball remains flashing for a period of time (like say 10 minutes) and then stops flashing.
Only way to stop it it so bring down the notifications panel and hit 'clear notifications'.
Its a bug.
my mate with an orange one had this, but it turns out he had set up the MAIL application (NOT Gmail) for his hotmail and turned notifications off, so it flashed, but no top bar notification or sound was played.....

I would actually love the option to have the trackball light to pulse indefinitely until notifications are cleared. I reckon its damned sexy!
Just a shame it can't do multi-coloured light :<
Mine will keep blinking until i take down the notifications panel, even tough its clear and i.e message is read. But it "cures" the blinking instantly.
Mine is doing the same thing, blinking for roughly 10mins but dissapears if open and close notifications even if blank.
Is this a bug only in the Orange rom ?

[Q] How to Turn off Auto-screen on when getting text

I've searched everywhere on how to do this but can't find anything -- When your screen is off and you get a text the screen turns on...Where is the setting to turn this off??? My notification LED is enough for me to know I have a message, don't need my screen always turning on.

I don't have my edge yet, in the mail so I can't tell you on the stock messenger app, but on my current phone i use the app Textra (which is great, I highly recommend trying it out) and in the notification settings there is an option specifically for this. Can set it to turn the screen on when receiving a text or leaving it off. there is also an option to turn the screen on except when the phone is set to silent.

I just posted this same question, I've turned off the setting in the message app to "turn off pop up display" but the screen still turns on with a pop up message...I don't know what's going on lol.
I've been through the settings a dozen times. There doesn't seem to be a way to stop this from happening on stock messenger. I can confirm that using a 3rd party (I use go sms) stops it from happening once you set it as default messenger.

Yeah. I ended up getting Textra before you posted this - liking the customizable options so far. I've always used GoSMS in the past and Hangouts but this one is a bit cleaner.

Double confirming this. With Samsung's Messages app the screen turns on for me, as it did when I had the S3, though it's more bearable now that I can unlock the S6 with my fingerprint. Using Verizon's Message+ screen does not turn on. This is really the only strike against Messages for me. Message+ is a little more sophisticated, but not as clean looking. I think I still prefer Messages because it's cleaner and I like the vibration notification better (two short bursts instead of one long). Again, the screen turning on isn't a deal breaker for me because the phone stays locked without my fingerprint.
solution
This issue is because Samsung put in their own text messenger called messages rather than using the Google made one called messenger while using the same icon. You can download the original messenger off of the Google Play Store just search messenger and look for the one by Google. Once you switch to the one by Google that should not turn your screen on anymore, you may have to change a setting to make it that way. Since I installed it haven't had the issue at all.

go on to notification settings, scroll to messages, turn off allow notifications.
then go on messages app. click more then settings then notifications and turn the setting off.
the screen will no longer light up when you get a message.
the LED will flash though so you know. also if you use nova you can set the badge app notification so it will show when you receive a message but again the screen will stay off.

LG G5 notification

Check the settings in your text messaging app. Some of them give you options for what happens when you get an incoming message. Some don't give a heads up notification if the screen is off.
If you have not made any changes whatsoever and your phone is just fresh out the box I would say that that's a problem and would return the phone 4 Exchange
Do you want the screen to turn on when you get a text message? There is a setting called ambient display that will turn your screen on when you get a message. If that setting isn't activated your phone will vibrate or make your notification sound and blink the led but will not activate the screen.

Blue LED Notification not Blinking with Unread Message?

Using stock messaging app. Blue led works because it's on during shut down and boot up. But it's not blinking like it's supposed to when there's an unread SMS. Help?
I have the same issue. the LED light works but doesn't blink when I receive new messages. The indicator is turned on in messages. The LED indicator is turned on in notification settings. I turned on notifications in WhatsApp because there were some saying that app was causing the problem. nothing has solved the issue. I took it into Target and had their iPhone/Droid tech try to figure it out, he did everything I already did with no luck obviously. Any suggestions? its an S9+.
