[KERNEL] 2.6.29.6-nAa-jb-03 [23/11/12] Custom JB kernel + CWM Recovery

Before unlocking your bootloader, read this thread
If you brick your device, you are the sole responsible.
Preface:
Read through this post. Don't rush into flashing. Be sure you understand the process before you start
This is a custom kernel developed for Android Jellybean
Do NOT try this kernel on other Android versions - you are totally unsupported
This kernel introduces custom mtd partitioning with larger /system partition to hold the extra JB calories. If you are moving from another custom kernel to this one, you MUST first format /system /data and /cache via the embedded CWM recovery
Features:
Forked from nAa-ics-04 (all ICS features are already in there)
Built with linaro-4.7.1 toolchain
CWM-Based Recovery 5.5.0.4
Custom mtd partitioning scheme suitable for JB
Modular recovery flashing support (more on that to come...)
Tracing support for JB
pmem: bring up2date with CAF 2.6.38
genlock/kgsl fixes
Triple buffering support for msm framebuffer
Much more RAM for improved multitasking experience (shakira: 186MB, robyn/mimmi: 187MB)
FAQ:
If you have any issues, please read the FAQ thread first: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30297163
Requirements:
Unlocked bootloader --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225
MiniCM10 or any JB, source-based ROM (install this kernel first, format /system, /data and /cache, then install the JB ROM)
Flashtool tested to be working with your phone, e.g. from here: http://www.multiupload.com/GYL7A7XQBT Original flashtool thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
Install:
Backup
Unlock your bootloader as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17384177&postcount=3 or here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225
Download the kernel ftf file from here and move it to Flashtool\firmwares so that Flashtool can pick it up
Flash the kernel via Flashtool
Reboot and you should see the kernel boot animation
[*] (First time only) Get into recovery and format /system /cache and /data manually

How to use mtd partiton???
Sent from my U20i using xda premium
I tried to move on, to use another phone, but nAa keeps surprising us with impossible ROMs so i´ll stay with my mimmi as long as nAa continue to make it´s magic. Congrats, you´re the best dev.
Does this kernel suports linux swap partition ?
useful links :
[DEV] miniCM10 debug only thread (shakira, robyn and mimmi)
$find other useful link in miniCM7/9 miniFAQs $
Perfomance :
recomended settings :
perf related :
CPU: keep default, but enable UnderVolting (and set on boot if you don't OverClock) (settings>performance>CPU)
RAM : to optimize RAM usage, use KSM, zram (18%, default) and allow purging of assets (settings>performance>memory managment)
I/O : keep NOOP, this is the default and the best for flash memory
other :
in settings>developer options
enable USB debugging,
debug notification,
set all animations to 0.5 (electron beam CRT animation will happen no more)
enable "kill with back button"
________________
for whose who feel the system slow and laggy, just try the SWAP (SDcard class6+ recommended)
SWAP, there is two "kind" of swap : using a partition on the SDcard, or using a swap file
both are good, but some SDcard/phones react better with the one or the other
let us start with the partition way : it is more complicated than the file method, but as some advantages
pros: once it is set up, no need to care about it anymore, the SDcard can be mounted to PC easily without latency
cons: a little complicated to set up, and once it's done, it is as complicated to revert as to set up; to change swap size, you need to repeat the process (formating and partitioning SDcard)
needs a clean install of miniCM10:
flash JB kernel
in CWM, go to mount&storage :
then, format /system, /data and /cache (so that kernel can use the new partitions size) any data on phone memory will be lost
set up your swap:
==> go to /advanced/Partition SD Card
if you don't want to use a2sd, then choose the minimal size for ext, and the size you want for SWAP
it will FORMAT your SDcard ! any data on SDcard will be LOST
and install the rom
swap partition should work
what doesn't work is the swap info menu
to revert : format SDcard in phone settings : it will FORMAT your SDcard ! any data on SDcard will be LOST
____________________
now, the swap file way : it is really simpler than the swap partition, works great but has some drawbacks
pros: easy to set up, easy to revert, and the size can be choosen at wish at anytime (in settings>performance>memory>Swap settings)
cons: high latency when mounting SDcard to pc, it can take forever (really quicker to use CWM mount and storage capability to use the SD on the PC, than using android way)
you must perform a clean install of miniCM10 (by formating /system, /data and /cache) any data on phone memory will be lost
install the rom zip, the gapps, and boot up your phone
set it up
once your rom is ready to use,
go to settings>performance>memory>Swap settings
choose "enabled"
choose the size
allow system to get SU permissions
wait for the pop up "swap enabled"
enjoy, it is simple and can be disabled on wish
to see if you swap works, open terminal, and type the following :
Code:
free

It reboots fine, when I select reboot into recovery (either from within cwm or within the os) it just boots as normal and goes into the os; as opposed to booting straight into recovery.
Very good kernel!
Now my cpu can run also at 787mhz without problem! (with naa-ics-04 mi limit was 748mhz).

There is no any customized CWM yet, you can download flashplayer manually from the internet, just try to google it .
The drivers included at the phone's flasher tool, in the One Touch Upgrade Q, or you can install Android Manager. Both of them have the necessary drivers.

I've tried to make it, but it seems to be there are some problems...I can get a rootshell, but the display can't work.
The OT-997 is another fail for me. I cannot make the communication between SP Flashtool and the device. It seems that the scatter file is incorrect, but i don't know how to correct it. If there is someone who has a little experience with ZTE V970 please help me with this, because that model has the same MTK chipset.

I do not have advertising on my phone now
because the OT-997D is a brand new phone release date 10/10/2012
I do not think there is already a custom ROM for the phone
for CWM Recovery
try http://builder.clockworkmod.com/
you need to dump your stock recovery.img

Do you think, i didn't tried that solution? The recovery-s that i built, couldn't show anything on the screen. It seemes that the device has a specalized framebuffer to initialize the display. I've also tried to port a CWM from a 7227A device, but I was facing the same problems.

Sorry for my english, translate through Google. I am a Russian-speaking. Here is a partition table for the Alcatel OT-993D:
Code:
/dev/block/mmcblk0p1 qcsblhd_cfgdata.mbn
/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 qcsbl.mbn
/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 /FAT vfat AMSS.MBN AMSSHD.MBN
/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 OEMSBL.MBN
/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 /APPSBL emmc EMMCBOOT.MBN
/dev/block/mmcblk0p7
/dev/block/mmcblk0p8 /boot emmc boot.img
/dev/block/mmcblk0p9
/dev/block/mmcblk0p10
/dev/block/mmcblk0p11
/dev/block/mmcblk0p12 info about imei, FW version, boot & recovery version
/dev/block/mmcblk0p13 /system ext4 system
/dev/block/mmcblk0p14 /data ext4 data
/dev/block/mmcblk0p15 /custpack ext4 custom
/dev/block/mmcblk0p16 /cache ext4 cache
/dev/block/mmcblk0p17 /recovery emmc recovery.img
/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 /misc emmc misc
/dev/block/mmcblk0p19 /secro emmc secro
/dev/block/mmcblk0p20
/dev/block/mmcblk0p21 /emmc vfat userdata
/dev/block/mmcblk1p1 /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /sdcard vfat ???????
Managed by busybox dd command to copy the recovery partition. Then I do not know what to do. I hope I helped somewhat. Really want CWM to our phone. Let's get together sometime and try to port CWM for this circuit?

[MOD]{CM10.1}{CM10.2}{CM11}{AOSP}Working Int2Ext for Xperia 2011 [ART-compatible]

After days of looking for a solution to the problem of every 2011 device I've finally managed to do it!
Many of you wanna enable ART functionnality in 4.4.2 because the device start "flying" with such a pill. So I've managed to modify the Int2Ext v2 script to run it lagless and conserving initial performance.
Prerequesites:
1. You have to make an EXT partition (I've got an EXT4 1 GB partition)
2. Flash the script BEFORE the first boot (like any other package such as gapps).
3. (Optionnal) Reboot once, and enable ART in developement menu.
4. Enjoy!
What it does exactly?
1. Increase the readahead cache for your sd to 4096 kb
2. Transfers /data/app & /data/app-private to the ext partition of the SD
3. Everything that a CronMod-INT2EXT script does

Small FAQ & corrected verision to avoid signal loss:
nos1609 said:
1. Tested in couple with Vanir/Carbon - unstable under ART, Dalvik recommanded
Tested on PAC working like a charm on both ART & Dalvik
2. To avoid reboots / FCs try flashing ART compatible gapps
3. About the "internal memory waste" Guys, please check the description of what the script is doing and what folders are moved onto EXT-partition. If everything would so simle as that, even ART mode couldn't overcome the laggynes and the lack of performance after moving everything to sdcard. The script is moving ONLY APKs to the EXT-partition. Dalvik, libs etc remains on the 470 Mb NAND to conserve initial performance. But enen that amount of free space is not enough to run ART experience at it full potential. because of very large dalvik-cache size.
4. EXT partition. Just google, XDA contains tons of manuals and tools to create one. If you'd like to simply try ART 512 MB one will be enough, you'll reach the internal NAND limitation. If you want using it in normal mode you can make the partition as large as you like.
5. Concerning the loss of signal, I think there are some lack of time for the device itself to get the new location of the files, so try this new package.

Those who have issue with signal loss after flash this script there is a way out... Just install Link2sd after flashing the script... Open Link2sd, give super user permissions and Link2sd will automatically create scripts and ask you to reboot.... thats is..... you should be able to get signals after reboot.... You can even uninstall Link2Sd after rebooting....
For me it is working in Mike's latest build, PA final build and Pac man latest build....

Hello, I really wanted to try this, and partitioned my SD card. Now, i am not able to see the created 1GB ext4 partition. I created that partition with MINITool Partition Wizard. For restoring it, I tried using GParted also but of no use. Out of 7.4 GB, only 6.4 is accessible. Kindly help. And one more thing. Dark Kernel is not even recognizing the SD Card.
@nos1609 , I had tried it in C-rom. I flashed it after the installation of C-rom then reboot. However, it can't boot into system. Anyone faced this problem? I had wait for the boot around 15-20 minutes but it stuck.
Can I:
1) Install rom, reboot into system.
2) Reboot into recovery and flash the zip then reboot.??

[Benchmark] Performance: F2FS vs EXT4 | How to Convert ext4 to f2fs and Install ROMs

Hi all,
I am proud to present benchmark competition between ext4 (The White G2) and f2fs (The black G2) file systems on LGG2 with D80230d ESA.
f2fs (The black G2)
I was formatting 3 partitions as below to f2fs.
/cache
/data
/system
I was using 4 benchmark apps ( CF-Bench,RL Bench,Androbench,AnTuTu) to test performance.
CF-Bench
CF-Bench is an overall benchmark by Chainfire which measure everything except graphics.
RL Bench
RL Bench is an SQLite benchmark, it only tests database read/writes with various SQL commands in various amounts.
Androbench
Androbench is supposedly an all-around I/O benchmark.
AnTuTu
No need for an introduction, it's probably the most popular benchmark these days.

wow, f2fs is pure sh*t on your benchmark. The f2fs g2(on the right) is lagging like crazy. You have to press the home button several times for it to respond lol. Dont care what the numbers say, in the video it is barely usable
thanks for the benchmark

so f2fs relies on kernerl or rom? cant rember LOL.
and somboons was it me or on first test, it says 4 cores then mhz/ white says 1995 then on black says 2545.?
isnt the black one overclocked?
so i heard from dorimanx that it was still on test phase f2fs, would you recommend to change format? ive used f2fs before on s2 but i really didnt see a difference.

/data , /cache were f2f2 ? please install icex rom on ext4 + install dorimanx kernel before then backup with twrp after that change /system to f2fs the rename your backup
ex. system.ext4.win to system.f2fs.win (change ext4 to f2fs) all system files after that restore it again.
or
You can edit updater-script replace ext4 to f2fs then format /data , /cache , /system to f2fs after that flash ROM> dorimanx kernel

then i tried other method.

Recovery is not seandroidenforce
echo -n "SEANDROIDENFORCE" >> recovery.img
?
You change /dev/block/platform/7824900.sdhci/by-name/boot
To
/dev/block/platform/soc.0/7824900.sdhci/by-name/boot
Nice ?
In the other recovery when you rebooted from the recovery while the device is charging. The device enters the charging mode and not the system
The only problem is MTP
When I enter the backup option. Red letters appear saying that could not find something related to the firmware and the efs

"EFS1 and EFS2" your backup was made with old TWRP .
New TWRP dont have partition EFS1 EFS2. Have partition EFS
Make backup with new TWRP- then restore will be without mistakes
TWRP_3.0.2-1 :
-Added item in the Backup section -> System Image
-Added item in the section Install Image -> System Image
I can not fix MTP
There is a problem with this TWRP, after flashing, my computer does not detect anymore my device (odin yes) so I cant open device files from computer...

Mtp issues in recovery
The phone does not enter the recovery if it is connected to the charger. That is, when a reboot is made from the terminal

error unmounting \'/cache\' (no such device)
trying to format a partition to f2fs
to restore to ext4 I have to do it manually because if I try to farmat to ext4 the error appear
mke2fs -t ext4 /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/cache
your mke2fs.conf file does not define the f2fs filesystem type
formating with mkfs.f2fs === succefull but twrp can't mount f2fs partition

# Android fstab file.
# The filesystem that contains the filesystem checker binary (typically /system) cannot

# Currently we dont have e2fsck compiled. So fs check would failed.

I can not restore the backup because twrp can not mount f2fs
I added f2Fs to the kernel for the future
flag in the anykernel zip
f2fs=true or false
and I will cheery pick f2fs(linux 3.18) from the official twrp source code for J7
