So yesterday was taking a lot of photos on a day out, using the Google Camera app .. funny thing was happening though; often would switch to the camera but the Capture button was 'grayed out' and had to quit it and re-enter to get it to work. Afterwards realised a lot of the photos I took were not there .. Figured that what was happening was, I would take the photo, press home button or power off and it evidently had not finished saving, or as HDR was on, doing the processing. Never seen this before but maybe just a freak one off or to do with the updated Camera app released recently. But my question is; is there any temporary directory files might have been saved to before doing the HDR stuff nad saving to gallery, or I guess maybe that is all done in memory and I am out of luck?

Was taking a video with the camera app supplied with CM7 ZMOD and while I was shooting I pressed the change white balance button and the camera app crashed, asking me to force close or wait, I hit force close and went back into the app.
Turns out I lost the 8mins of footage. Would it be possible to retrieve this footage from a cache folder somewhere?
It's probably possible to get the data but that rom uses hardware video encoding and would most likely be unusable because the encoding never completed.
fair enough then, thanks.
Sometimes when i take pictures and check them out later they are fine until i tap on them from the gallery then they get all messed up and seem to get saved that way. Here is my hurried explanation of what that looks like...On the phone they are half cut out and a rainbow of color goes where the picture crops out so the top half is fine the bottom is filled in with the cascade of color. From inside the gallery the picture loooooks fine until i tap on it then its all messed up again, if i put these messed up pictures online or save them to my computer they are still ruined. This is becoming a problem because i usually have no time to write down my schedule at work and i like to snap a picture of it which takes seconds also it happens occasionally i can take several pictures at a time and they all come out fine. I'am rooted using photon torpedo i have edited my build prop in the past for higher quality still shots but i restored the default build along time ago. Iam not able to update at the moment unless i go back to stock if that would help i would return to stock, update and root later. Anyone have this happen?
Nope.I've has my pictures cut in half tough with the rainbow bit before.greet changing the store location and see if that helps. G.l.

if storage location does not fix it, try a hard reset. I was having some issues and had to hard reset, open camera, take pic, check it gallery otherwise i would get a force close in the gallery when trying to "album" the photos. Hope this helps
I lost multiple small videos of my daughter yesterday learning to ride without training wheels for the first time yesterday because it was the first time I'd used the video/camcorder and it was in bright light and I didn't see a Save button. My old phone, my wifes SGS2, etc, you just start video, and when you stop, it's done. No "saving" required.
I was basically helping her off, pulling out the Note, unlock, camera->video, record until she stopped, then I'd stop recording and hit back to go back to the home screen so the camera wasn't "running" in my pocket. Each time i did this, I threw away the recording.
Anyone know a setting or something, or maybe an alternative app that doesn't do this? I know now, but it's still really aggravating.
I just tried it and it works for me. When recording...i click the back button and it auto saved. Try resetting your cam settings.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke

wtf? This is the stock ROM, I haven't fiddled with anything, and it's the first time I used the video camera at all.. Meeehhh...
No problem here either - stock rom, I've made multiple recordings.

Damnit, I figured it out. I use Camera Zoom, which launches the built-in Camcorder app. Or at least it looks the same, not 100% sure. If I do it that way, I have to hit save or it tosses it.
If I launch the stock Camera app and switch to video, and do the same thing with record, stop, I see NO save button, and just hitting back I found the video in the gallery.
Damnit Camera Zoom.
Android 4.3 Camera Security Bug - Samsung Galaxy Nexus upgraded from 4.2.2 to 4.3 via OTA.
Anyone who recently upgraded can try and replicate this issue.
After upgrade launch the camera, try to set as default settings as you can (not sure if this matters, but try turning off the camera flash).
Use the rear facing camera, press the shutter button as fast as you can, look in the gallery. You might find that photos you previously took and deleted have resurfaced.
Try the same thing with the front facing camera.
I was able to "recover" photos taken and deleted a couple weeks ago using this method. I'm guessing that something in the software can't keep up so it finds old photos and uses them for some reason. After a few rounds of doing this, the problem went away, so maybe it cleared out some kind of cache or used up whatever leftover deleted photos there were.
Anyone else able to replicate?
Whole photos or just the thumbnail? I've had a similar thing on an archos tablet where the thumbnail is an old, deleted photo, but when you select it to display full size, it's the one that was just taken.

It was the whole photo viewed in the gallery. Swipe left from the camera app and the previously deleted photos were viewable. Tap once, they fill the screen, pinch to zoom they enlarge. I didn't try downloading them to my computer through USB. The problem went away after a few rounds of doing this and deleting all available photos, it was quite disconcerting in terms of privacy. The front camera and rear camera seemed to have their own separate caches of deleted photos as the issue happened with each independently. I ended up doing a factory reset which hopefully will be good enough. Nothing special about my device, Galaxy Nexus GSM, purchased from the play store, always upgraded through OTA, never unlocked, never custom ROMs, never rooted, etc...
Hello everyone. I just got this phone the other day after returning the galaxy s5. I am loving it but I have one issue and maybe I'm just doing something wrong.
Everytime I take a picture in the camera app after tapping the check button, the camera closes and I return to the home screen. Does anyone else have this problem or is there something obvious I'm doing wrong?
Not normal. If the phone is stock (unrooted, etc.) I would try a factory reset (backup any personal data first) and see if the problem persists.
Only time I see a check in camera app is when sending picture via mms and it asks where I want to send [email protected],camera etc... if this is case of attaching picture directly from camera to an mms then this is a normal function, if taking a picture and it just closes then this is not normal reaction
Well it seems that the problem has resolved itself. I was just about to post a screen shot of the check mark so you guys could see it and then it just starting working as normal. Thanks for the responses and I'll post here if it comes up again.
Ok the problem returned... I showed the issue to a buddy who has the same phone and it also turned out that I was missing several options on the camera. I did a factory reset and the problem persisted.
I think I found the issue... I was using Google Now Launcher. Apparently that launcher doesn't play well with the camera. I uninstalled the launcher and voila, all the features (video, zoe, dual camera, etc) are back and the camera no longer closes after taking a pic.
Anyone else want to test this theory and see if happens?
confirmed issue and workaround
Hi there,
I can confirm that the Now launcher uses the native Google camera instead of the Zoe camera. I have also found that from the lock screen with the now launcher installed, unlocking by pulling the camera icon opens the full HTC zoe-enabled camera again. I find this super annoying as I'd like to have Google launcher and have the camera work properly. Anyone know a fix for this other than my workaround?
Ditto for T-Mobile HTC One (M7)
There's a lot I really like about the Google Launcher, but this just drives me nuts. I didn't really understand the workaround suggested here ( though I have no doubt it works). But the suggestion sounded on target. So, I went into my app list and shared it from there. It didn't do the funky stuff any more. I wonder if there's a setting to change that behavior: like someone thought, Hey, take a picture and go back to our regular programming? It's a shame because I really feel that the Google camera takes better picture.
In any case, just to let folks know that this is a real problem. The OP was on target.
To anyone else having this problem that does not use Google Now Launcher, another app that causes this is Omni Swipe. The default camera button in the tools section isn't the right camera (not sure what it's trying to access but still). If you add the correct camera app to the app section, it'll be fine.
Yes, this solved my problem as well. I went back to the default launcher and now the camera is working fine
