just I want to know is it possible to flash recovery IMG without root access ?
if yes then how.
Thanks in advance xda
It depends on the device, root is within the os and independent from the recovery. Some devices have unlocked bootloader or the ability to unlock and then flash a custom recovery without inherently having a rooted device.
But on most, a custom recovery and rooted device go hand in hand
To answer if possible and how you would have to look into your device specifics

You will have to use fastboot to do this because there isnt a one click yet, i unlocked mine the other day by opening fastboot and typing fastboot oem unlock, then the device id. It unlocked and i had no issues

It is incredibly easy and if you have any questions I am more than happy to help. This is the method I used and I am now running Joker's rom (link in my sig.)
Does flashing cwm need root privileges? And is flashing rom's safe too without root access?

If you flash CWM through fastboot or Odin or similar method then no you don't need root access. In regards to flashing ROMs without having root access from CWM it's not a good idea the as the installation will likely fail because without root the system partition can't be modified which is necessary when installing a new ROM.

Actually there is nothing wrong with that. Its perfectly safe to flash a ROM in the situation of having a custom recovery without root access.

Yes, you could recover the backup (as long as you can get into recovery mode).

If I 'can'? Does this mean there is a chance that I can hard brick my phone incase I don't have root access??

You will not hardbrick your device doing this without root access in the unlikely event something does go wrong you will end up with a soft brick that can either be recovered through a NANDROID backup or if needed using the Micromax flash tool. I should also clear up any confusion I may have caused earlier as I misunderstood your question, the vast majority of custom ROMs will include root access but if they don't or you don't currently have root access you can still flash ROMs in CWM successfully.

sorry for using this thread. but.. why would you then need root if flashing without root is possible(and safe) ?

Root would be needed in the first place to allow you to install a custom recovery such as CWMR or TWRP that you can then use to flash ROM's and other modifications. Some devices such as Samsung devices that have Odin allow you to flash ROM's through Odin without having root provided the bootloader is unlocked. Let me know if you still have questions.
Would I be able to use odin(or a similar program) to flash cwm on a wolfgang at - as45ips (rebranded amoi n821)?
Since normal root methods don't work for me..

it's running 4.1.1 with kernel 3.4.0(don't know if that matters..)
HTC Desire S
Hi I have a HTC Desire S with stock gingerbread 2.3.5 and unrooted. I want to flash MIUI v5. But in order to do this I have to install clockworkmod.
Tutorials said that I first have to unlock the bootloader on the htc website. When I tried to do that, i could not get the token key because my hboot is outdated. I have read many tutorials on the internet on updating hboot but I failed to do so as I kept getting a "Write access denied" message in the command line (Windows7). I've tried other methods like using EasyUnlockTool and read on stuff about "gold cards" but this just keep getting more confusing.
I've flashed my galaxy S i9000 so many times before but don't understand why HTC complicates things so much http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/crying.gif
Is there no simpler way to just flash this phone with MIUI? Can this be done without needing to install CWM, updating hboot or rooting?

Installing Clockworkmod Recovery, updating HBoot, and rooting are all necessary steps to install MIUI on your phone. I would recommend checking out this guide that will guide you through the process of updating HBoot, rooting, and install Clockworkmod Recovery. Additionally I would recommend checking out this index thread that has many additional guides and information about HBoot, Rooting, ROMs, etc. Overall, start with updating HBoot and then once you have done that move onto, the other steps. Let me know if you still have questions.
Whats the best rooting app for LGMS550?
I know I have a bootloader that's unlockable but I'm reading some strange stuff about recoveries on this phone.
Is there a reoccurring recovery installation needed after installing a ROM every time? Does that only apply to locked bootloaders?
I was trying to install TWRP since I favor that one over CWM but when trying to install it from their Google Play App it says the image is missing and redirects me to another link which pretty much stays at the 0% progress...
On previous phones I've had things seemed a bit easier (Note3, GS4, Note) or maybe I'm just to cautious since the phone is so new... Anyway I'd appreciate any help on the matters.

Ok so with xperias they do not have a native partition for the recovery
This means that they have to be stored within a custom kernel (if your bootloader is unlockable) or your system if your bootloader isnt unlockable
Recovery installer scripts that work on locked bootloaders usualy put the recovery file within your system hence why when flashing a custom rom it disapears
Flashing a custom kernel (with a unlocked bootloader) alows you to freely flash custom roms as the recovery is a part of the kernel and not the system

Ah so if I unlock my bootloader and if I keep the same modified kernel then I'll be OK. But I don't know too many ROMs that are going to come without a kernel...
Probably could edit the install script to skip kernel writes...?

If you unlock your bootloader
Install a kernel that contains a recovery
Then yes your recovery stays after a rom flash
Stock based roms should not come with a kernel
Non stock based roms have to come with a kernel (usualy contain recovery anyway)
Your warrenty is void unlocking your bootloader however you can relock
I recomend you read up about bootloader unlocking

NO!
If the Sony one failed, you have a bootloader that CANNOT be unlocked. You CANNOT flash a Custom ROM, only one that is based on stock. Or you'll get a brick...
In future, you may wish to consider buying an unbranded (non-carrier) phone.
When I enter to flashmood and connect the device to the pc, the pc not read the device.

I'm not sure if you should be trying to do whatever it is you're doing, but I would respectfully suggest you take some time to understand a little more about the whole process before you end up breaking something.

Windows 8 has device driver certification that may prevent you from installing the drivers neccessary to use fastboot. You can get around it however - search XDA for the solution.
While you're doing that make sure you completely understand the limitations of a locked bootloader before you start flashing things.
Edit: grammer
I read a lot of guide on this forum but all of them are outdated or too hard to understand for me . So please help me root this phone step by step, thanks!
Im using Android 4.4.2 , not modified anything.
I see there alot of autoroot app out there, is there any of them work for our device?
Ps: what is the difference between this device and the butterfly, are they the same?
They are similar hardware wise with a few differences. To s-off/unlock/root on 4.4.2, you will use Sunshine then flash a custom recovery of your choice.

Not for the DNA. Blame Verizon. They block access to HTCdev. No Verizon phone made after the Rezound can unlock the bootloader via HTCdev.

I do not install custom roms or anything, but it works fine with apps that required root access.
One step more?

I am at the point of installing Sunshine. Now wanting to gain permanent root, so I can change ROMs if desired.
I tried installing TWRP through some ADB commands, but had no success. Can you assist? I also read that after installing a recovery, I should install / flash UI.zip, but had trouble locating it; the couple links I tried were dead.
Can I gain permanent root on 4.4.2, how?
Thanks
