Is it safe to move apps to SD? - Ornate TrueSmart

Hi,
I have a 32G SD card in my TS and was wondering if it is safe to use an app like this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.a0soft.gphone.app2sd
To move apps to the SD card to free up some space?
Any downsides to doing this?
Also, is the above app the right choice or is there a better app?
Thanks,
D.

I've used the Rom Toolkit from Casual Operative for it and so far the only problem I've had is I needed to move my preferred keyboard back to the phone for it to stay selected as the default, and Enhanced Email back for it to remember my work email account (at least, I think that's the culprit...I just moved that back over just now). The other caveats I know of are you can't move over apps that supply widgets you're using or apps that are system apps, and if you reflash while you have apps on the SD they end up still there but without the phone knowing about them (wasted space).

[Q] Rooted but can't move apps to SD?

Hello,
I have a Streak with the 318/12821 build. It's rooted and has busybox installed, but I am not able to move many of my apps to the SD card. I have an Aria in which I am able to move all of the downloaded apps to the SD card, but on this Streak, it is still very limited. More apps have the move to SD button grayed out than allow it.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!
Unless I'm mistaken, it's actually something that needs to be enabled by the App developer. You can't (again, unless I'm mistaken) forcefully move any app to the SD card unless it's been coded to allow it.
The Apps2SD feature is relatively new so not all apps have been re-coded to enable it.
Personally, I don't understand why people want to move their apps to SD card. Unless you fill up your apps list with loads of crap, there should be plenty of room on the device memory! Think of it this way, if you want to swap memory cards (for whatever reason) then all your apps that you have put on the SD card will not function.
Then there's the fact that most SD cards are slower than the internal memory, and that any widgets will not function if moved to SD etc...

Actually not all of the phones carry a lot of memory. The more expensive the phone the more memory you receive. Thanks for your advice, though. I had the same question as the other person.

Using the apps2sd that is 'built in' yu can't move everything to the sd card, each app dev can choose to enable or disable allowing this and for some apps it is not recommended (apps with widgets for example) because if the SD Card is removed the app won't work properly.
Your Aria was probably running a modified version of apps2sd which, if I understand correctly, creates a partition on the SD Card to be used for apps. This works differently than the apps2sd that is native to Android.

Apps2Sd on StreakDroid?

I'm new to Streak and StreakDroid 1.9 is my first mod. I found it strange that there is no apps2sd or equivalent on this mod. How do I move all my apps to sd?
Barely 20% apps suppport it by default. Rooting is all about choice, and without apps2sd, its quiet difficult.
Either download the free app or just go into settings -> applications and select whatever app you want to move. Once you select it you will have the option to move to SD card.

why would you really want to move your apps to your sd card.
They become unresponsive after that. Why not just change your internal card. Or not even that, who in the world is gonna install 2 gigs worth of apps?

Really? I've 100+ apps and you are telling me I dont need them?
When did sd card go slow? If you have good sd card with sd speed increase app, it outperforms internal flash. Don't live with FUDs.

[Q] 2 questions: How do I move apps to mSD? And anti-glare screen protector?

Howdy all!
1. How do I move apps to my mSD card (Sandisk 32GB). I tried to use App2SD but there is no option to move the app. Their FAQ says:
I cannot find the "Move to xxx" button from application detailed information window.
If the device does not have a real primary external storage or the primary external storage is emulated. Moving app to SD function will not be supported by Android system. It's the limitation of hardware. Please get more information from device manufacture.

Is it possible this is not supported on the Transformer Prime?
2. I'm looking for a good anti-glare screen protector for the Prime. Has anyone seen one that's out yet for the Prime specifically? Or one that would fit perfectly?
Thanks.
There's no "move to SD card" option in Honeycomb because all internal storage is available for apps (and whatever else).

OK now I do feel stupid. So if for example I want to have a mSD card just with my toddlers education apps - how do I explicitly install them on that card?

To my knowledge, there's no way to do so.
You can root it. Razorclaw is the one step root app from market. Then install Titanium backup to be able to move all apps and even delete system apps as well. Once I get my Prime I will root it to be able to take advantage of these apps that require root to run.

[Q] Out of Space PopUp

I have the Verizon Note2, 64GB SD Card, rooted and bootloader unlocked. I do have 300+ apps downloaded currently. When trying to install another one just now from sd card- an .apk file- I had a popup saying I was Out Of Space. I know it is trying to install it to the phone's internal memory, which it thinks is full.
Is it full, and do I really need to remove some other apps? I know JB doesn't let us move the apps from internal to sd, so what other options are there? I am not comfortable altering the framework- nor do I know how- to move the apps to sd. Can I move them with Rom Toolbox Pro?
Thanks!

You can't move apps to SD that way. You can do a swap though. The phone would read your external card as internal and vice versa. I am pretty close to doing this myself as I am fighting for app space.

300 apps? Wow, thats a ton. I have maybe 20-25. I'm sure I am on the low side.
unlocked Note2 and Tapatalk
Does anyone get the low memory pop up after doing the internal external swap yet have plenty of space still available ?

How to move apps from Internal Storage to SD Card

I just stumbled upon it and I though it might be useful. In order to move an app from your phone's internal storage to your SD card, you just need to
1) open Settings -> Apps
2) Tap on an app
3) Tap on Storage
4) Tap Change
5) Tap SD card
PS: Obviously apps will take more time to open (the delay is noticable in facebook).

You don't even need to do that. Just long press any app then >app info>storage etc...

Welcome to Android! :silly:
And for anyone tempted to try, the onboard 64 gig is far faster than any SD card you can currently buy. Many apps will run poorly, if at all. Moving apps to the SD card should be an absolute last resort, right after you've figured out which apps you really didn't need in the first place.

I tend to agree, I moved a much of apps to my SD now things run much slower I regret doing so.
Moving apps to SD is soooo kit kat....
Depends on what apps you moved i guess.
Ive notified NO CHANGE on the apps ive moved. WhatsApp is on the SSD card and behaves just as it did on internal.
Let's see.. samsung internet , Firefox, textra, all amazon apps, google drive, instagram, Snapchat, outlook, pandora, OneDrive...
NO DIFFERENCE at all.
Now there was one app, samsung gear 360, it did NOT like to be on storage card (kept force closing even though i was not using it when this was happening) so i moved it back to internal.
Also not ALL of the apps data is moved to the SD card. Some data of the app still lives on the SD.
EDIT: i dont use crackbook aka Facebook, so i cant speak on that, but i use WhatsApp, for example, and it opens up normally. No lag. None of the apps i moved are behaving out of normal. Again this is dependent on other factors, but in my daily use environment i dont notice any lag.
I also dont use the memory and storage optimizer (killing apps in the background from running)...
The internal storage is faster than sd unless you can find one of their new faster sd cards...if you move a lot of apps you may see performance loss...

Thanks
