4.2.1 Internal storage full, mystery. Help! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Need some words of wisdom here. My rooted THL W200 has a fat I mean a huge portion of the internal memory crushed by something, no idea what. See screenshot.
I'm so low on internal storage that I can barely do anything. It's crippling my phones basic functionality. Is my OS bloated or what. Is a clean install of 4.2.1 really over 500mb!!!
So far I have tried wiping the dalvik cache with an app, barely freed anything. Is there anything I can do. Bare in mind that the default recovery is running and it's entirely in chinese so I have no idea how to use it and getting CWM doesn't appear to be too simple on this phone.
Thanks for any help.

Sorry, the screenshot does not seem very helpful without the actual measuring of the storage. Might want to use a better storage analyzer.

Also, it's not a big deal that /system takes up that much space. For one thing, that's a separate partition than where you save your media and files and apps you install are saved to /data/app so doesn't make much difference. Plus many newer phones have systems that are 2 GBs give or take a bit.

also you can reset your phone

Hello, I have the absolutely same issue with the same phone THL W200 rooted and I have to say this problem is unbearable. 500 mbytes of internal storage are being eaten up by nothing rendering my phone almost useless.
I have no idea what's causing it as well and I am not well versed enough in backing up and hard reseting to even try, also I dont have a PC at hand where I can back up.
If you've found a solution please inform me at once, thank you.

[Q] How to clean up internal SD?

I only have 1.4MB left on my internal SD.. And it is confusing as hell. I have all my music on my external SD. I tried cleaning out as much as possible (the things that i knew what they were, and i didn't need them anymore)
Idk what to do
I just copy all the important stuff to my cpu and format the card from the phone then put it all back
Vibrant - Bionix 1.3 - JAC's Xmod kernel- adb lag fix
Check your nandroids. If you backup alot you've probably got a crapload of old backups and they will end up rating alot of space. Delete what you don't need.

I already deleted all of them except my last one..
And what exactly does formatting the card do?
formatting the internal SD card will just erased everything.. I think..

It's like this....The contents of your internal SD are....the contents of your internal SD. There's no real way for us to know what is in there. It will be different for you, me, and everyone else.
Music and video files eat tons of space fairly quickly, but since you say all your music is on your external...well it's hard to say what might be going on. You have SOMETHING eating nearly 14gb of space...
Time to get your learn on, browse through your phone's folders and see what's there. Best to do this from your PC...Best of luck
You can pretty much delete the entire contents, but I wouldn't delete the clockwork folder since it helps you recover. For some reason it doesn't like it when I delete the update.zip file thou either. Something about root and screwing around with LOL
+1 on the last two posts...
are you sure it's not 1.4GB? The 14GB internal SD is good enough for most. In fact I bet that most people with all the music and videos and other stuff still have a few GBs.
Definitely DO NOT get rid of your Clockwork folder and the update.zip. Those two will save you in a pinch. Now as for everything else, you can always re-flash a ROM and start from the beginning.
Good luck and keep an eye if that happens again. I'm not sure Samsung expected people to run out of space on the internal so quickly.
I just copied the contents of my internal card to my computer and it said there the only 620mb. WTF?? Im going to format it and report back.

Internal storage is really slow

First off, I did a search before posting this but didn't find anything very helpful & no solutions that could be applied to this specific device, so I apologize if this problem has already been addressed & I just missed it somehow.
So basically, the internal storage on my note is REALLY slow. Read speeds are fine, but write speeds are in the low kbps, like 60-100. Last night it took an hour to copy about 120mb of stuff to it. Is anyone else having this same experience & does anyone know what could be causing it? I thought about formatting it in windows with a higher allocation size, do you think that would help at all(or is that even advisable to do)? For the record, it's been like this in both ICS & the stock GB rom, and it did the same thing on the first Note I had that got exchanged due to a faulty screen too, so I don't think it's my specific device that's at fault here.
One last question- does anyone know if its possible to swap out the internal SD? Cause that'd be really cool.
The internal sd card isn't really a card, its a memory chip soldered to the mainboard, so swapping isn't possible.
How are you transferring files - through windows exlorer, or mac finder, or through another application?
Are you still on Stock or a custom ROM?

The only thing that I can think of is wiping Internal when formatting your space in Recovery (TWRP, specifically); this will clean out the entire Internal SD area. This can also rid you of garbage that may have been carried over from a bad ROM load (even if it was the stock ROM). You will of course have to follow proper procedure to reinstall your ROM, but it will at least be a garbage-free install.
You can also try a Defrag program (Android Defrag FREE is what I use), before you blow everything away in an Internal wipe.
I normally do a full phone wipe if I start having any problems with general phone speed (Data, Dalvik, FacRes, System, Internal, and External...followed by a good Darkside SuperWipe); overkill, I know, but I don't want any problems between ROMs. That being said, I haven't had any issues come up with read/write access times since I've started doing this...and phone seems generally quicker to respond when moving files.
I hope that this info helps.
I use twrp and mount the SD cards very fast that way versus the phone in normal state with Windows 8

Yeah even bumping up the sd buffer or w/e still sucks terribly.

i saw you answer every one question....can i ask you that is it ok to format emc thru cmw..and that will make the phone clean... cause i found out flash after flash ( even wipe every thing) there still some file left in there.....

Does filling up internal storage decrease performance?

Does filling a phone with only internal storage slow it down? Even if you don't fill it?
I'm asking because I put 10gb of music on my HTC One, and I was just curious as to whether it would effect it in any way.
Thanks for any responses
Well.. in my opinion, since the Internal Storage should be divided into partitions, the user data should go into a different partition, so performance should not be affected.. however in general terms, I'm not sure how the technology works in detail, but if we apply the same principles as a normal hard drive, looking for data, browsing along more files, should bring unnoticeable delay.. but I'm not sure, just giving my honest opinion
Yeah, I only ask because I know that completely filling up the internal storage will cause some performance problems.

I dont think it slows down due to hard disk. It can be slow due to some apps that you are using in you phone. It can also happens if you are using internet on you Mobile.

I didn't said it slows down "due to hard disk". I said if we apply the same concept of mechanisms hard drives use, it would Which is not the case.
I think it does... I tried.
Pretty sure it does, with my old phones (g1, original droid and wildfire) when they hit the limit they were practically bricks (which would light up 5 years after they should)
If (and that's an if) I remember correct gmail stops synchronizing once you go below 20 mb

Well.....does it slow it down? Test it and see if the device performs better or worse with the music on it.
I put the music on my phone as soon as I got it practically, so I wouldn't be able to tell.
From the sound of it, you guys completely filled your phones? I mean just half full or something

Unfortunately removing the preloaded apps won't help your storage issues at all. Those apps are located in a different part of the system (/system/app) than the apps and data (/data/app + /data/data) that you add. You can (if rooted) move apps to the /system/app partition, but they don't always work or update correctly from there as it requires special permissions to run from there. But there really isn't much to do besides rooting it and doing some modifications to your set up. They don't call em budget phones for nothing.
Options include swapping the internal and external mount points so it reads your external as your main internal storage, creating a partition on your external and using a script to link your /data/app and/or /data/data folders to that partition so it reads as one big space (however big you make that partition), or using an app like Folder Mount to create a link between big folders on the internal to the external (mostly helpful for big game data). All of these require a bit of knowledge, but nothing that some time and reading can't help you with. It is not exactly rocket science. Knowing what update you are on though is important, both so you pick the right rooting method (there are multiple options if not on 4.2.2 yet) as well as, if, worst case happens, you know what version of the software you need to reload. You can find this info under Settings / About Phone. Make note of not just the android version, but the build or system version as well as there can be mini updates to software that changes things but not the actual android version.
As far as Kingo, I've never read anything other than hearsay about any potential malicious activity on their part. The reason you see most people freaking out about it is because when it first was introduced, it was known to send IMEI info back to their servers in China. Kingo never tried to hide the fact, explained their position about why they were doing it (diagnostics), and promptly changed how that was done. Now, by nature of what it is doing (root = gaining admin access to the operating system), it needs to download closed sourced scripts and files to gain this access . They don't want to disclose their sources for 2 reasons: 1) if the manufacturers of the phones that don't want it rooted see how it is done, then it's much easier to patch that on the next update and 2) so other people don't steal their work. Makes sense to me, but some people are concerned about closed sources (even though many apps already installed or that you download are closed source as well). I've used it on quite a few devices and have never had problems. You can uninstall the companion app it installs (it does this for some devices to help gain access through a backdoor) and update the SuperSU app and binary it installs via the Play Store, so don't really see it as an issue.

That's a guide with everything you should need to fix the phone if anything were to happen or to just return it to it's original state if wanted / needed. Read through the thread a bit and see where other members were having trouble and the solutions to those. If you get comfortable with that and how it works, then modding your phone becomes much less scary. And once you are rooted, tethering is even better because you can typically hide your activity much more. I don't know if it is a big deal with carriers around where you live, but here, most people have to pay for tethering or make sure to have special plans that typically cost more than ones that don't include it.

Deep Clean XTZ

Anybody know the best way to really, I mean REALLY deep clean out the SD Card/Internal Memory of the XTZ? I've been running low on space for a while now, and no amount of SD Maid/Cleaner etc seems to help. I've gone through and deleted everything I can, but frankly I only really see 1-2gb of files, another 1-2gb of TB backups, and then <1 gb of miscellanous app data and what not. Nowhere close to the 16gb, even giving a little leeway for system/os size.
I therefore figure it has to be the internal memory/android secure -- something like that. Can anyone give me a good idea of how I might totally release all that storage?
Alternately, if anybody knows a way to TRULY zero out the XTZ -- rom/software wise -- I'd be willing to completely rebuild my setup from the ground up, just to get a bit more breathing room.
Thanks very much for any assistance/ideas, I really do appreciate it.

Flash firmware with flashtool with all wipes or do wipes via recovery (need to be installed manually). Or you can try factory reset of device.
For stock 16Gb model, ~11Gb are free after clean reflash.
