Auto rotate screen - Xperia Z2 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does it really work only in landscape mode when locked? It seems like a bug.

Yes, unfortunately it is this way. A bug or at least badly programmed.
But you can (like me) use a 3rd party solution.
I have "Ultimate Rotation Control" which can reside in the notification panel.
Aside from being configurable, it even allows to force rotation, so that apps which normally only work in one direction can now be rotated. So it's a recommended bonus anyway.

Is it possible to have the screen be always rotated horizontally whenever possible

With stock ICS, I am bad at typing messages with the vertical keyboard, so I always have to turn it first so that the large keyboard appears (and sometimes it takes a while for it to register). I was wondering if there is a setting for it to automatically always select the horizontal way whenever possible...or perhaps there is an app out there or a way for it to register much faster.
Use holo launcher hd plus or any launcher in the launcher settings there is always an option default orientation change it to landscape then u can have a permanent landscape view not sure abt the option being there in touchwiz havent used it in a long time

I use Set Orientation from gPlay, allows you to set (and force any app into, even it doesn't want to support) the orientation you want directly from the notification area.
Maybe that'll help you too.

Left handed... watch on right

Since I'm left handed, I usually wear my watch on my right wrist.
I'd like the camera pointing out towards my hand so I need to flip the display.
I can't find any setting to do this. The "auto-rotate display" doesn't really work.
Any suggestions?

There's an xposed framework module called gravitybox with an overide to allow all auto rotation orientations. I use this with the auto-rotation enabled in the accessibility settings to swap the watch between my right and left throughout the day. if you want to force it to a specific orientation, I'm sure this can be done with xposed framework somehow.
I've not tried it on the truesmart, but I've used gmd smart rotate (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmd.smartrotate / http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045240) to override orientation on touchwiz for years, and there are other similar applications available. these may prove to be simpler to use if you're not familiar with xposed framework
GMD mostly works

Thanks for this information. Nice app. The GMD Smartrotate does allow me to flip the screen to wear my watch on the right wrist. The only problem is that the camera image is upside down. It does flip the controls and menus for the camera app but the camera image is not flipped and is upside down. All the other apps seem to be flipped just fine. (Oh well, at least when I show pictures to other people, it will be right side up for them.)
It's hard to take right side up pictures anyways, it always seems to rotate them sideways. I just rotate them after I've taken the pictures. It's not like I'm using this thing as a primary camera
Edit: I didn't think about videos though..

Force Auto rotate

Hi Guys.
There's a couple of apps that seem to come up as portrait even when my phone is on landscape.
Lock screen is one of them, also the phone app is on landscape but when I receive a call it goet to portrait.
Is there any way to fix this?
I've installed app settings, and forced auto rotate on phone, but still the same.
Maybe phone app is not the one used when on an actual call?
Any ideas?

Managed o do this with an Xposed module, but the phone app doesnt rotate well, and displays an error in the swipe to answer
Any ideas?
try the App Set Orientation from the Play Store.
Note: if an app forces you to landscape than it`s because the App doesnt support portrait.
Try rotation control by fame it. This app let's netflix rotate to portrait!

[Q] [Peeve] Why do Android screen rotation apps not provide auto 2 normal mode?

I have a 4.4.4 phone with hard navigation keys. All the apps I have tried like this do not provide an auto lock 2 mode for portrait and landscape only.
Is there such an app?
Why allow the annoying reverse landscape? My Droid Maxx forbids reverse portrait!
Even if I did have navigation keys that moved with the screen, I have the power and volume buttons assigned to tasks so I never use reverse modes.
I have tried out most of them and reverse portrait is the only excluded mode.
Is it that the android code does not allow such discretion?
Thanks for your consideration.
Or in other words, are the apps using pre coded routines so whatever stock allows in auto mode the apps do too?
Please, can someone tell me of what use reverse landscape is for?
I do not get it.
I put this as an android peeve similar to how the dialer defaults to the contact pic rather than keypad once a call is placed. What damn use is the contact pic?
Is there a peeves thread?

[Easy Guide] Force dual screen wide view on ALL apps

Hello all!
I've seen it somewhat posted throughout the comments here but no thread on it directly. I figure the potential of this this deserves it's own thread and tutorial for those who are coming from Google to try and do exactly this without reading through a few threads.
Anyways:
How to enable Wide View on every app:
Download this app,G8x WideMode.
This puts a new icon in the top bar in the notification shade. If you don't see it, pull down twice and hit the pencil to edit the icons. Find the new one and place it somewhere near the top to keep it close by.
When the dual screen is open, tapping that will force wide screen in every app! There are some limitations:
Intent changes seem to revert the phone back to two separate pages. For instance, the mobile Reddit app Sync closes wide screen if I click any link to an external picture, video or site.
Some apps do f play nice in wide screen due to this, and you can't keep the phone permanently in the mode like a tablet, but it's a great improvement to a great phone idea.
This is super simple so I didn't think pictures were necessary, but let me know if I wasn't clear on anything or if you have problems somewhere!
This is very much appreciated! It works like a charm. It's not the floating dual screen thingy but the toggle buttons that you swipe down from the top. Make sure you add it.
Hey, this app seems to work great! I did have an issue with one app called Steam Link. Steam Link allows you to connect to a computer running Steam and remotely control it from your Android device. When I launch a game and try to use WideMode the Steam Link app refreshes and goes back to a single screen. I would love to be able to play some of my steam games over both screens.
Is there any way to make landscape apps go left/right instead of top/bottom?

I don't understand. couldn't you just auto rotate? you can also use the rotation control app to lock rotation, which helps with wide Mode

auto rotation did not work because some apps are forced landscape/portrait.
I did end up using the rotation control app with the per-app conditions. :good:
Next nice thing would be if some apps would restart at the new resolution, instead of stretching the single-screen app - some apps/games work perfectly, but others don't (and I think they should have a similar resolution compatible because I've used the axon M, which has "dual screen" retained through home with those apps).
