First of all, I am new to everything about smartphones. So if this is in the wrong forum, please move for me and I apologize. I just successfully rooted my LG Optimus x2 and I have deleted all the factory apps I wanted. I really haven't noticed a faster phone. Why? Should I?
But, I can't find any of the .odex files I am suppose to delete. Where are they? I have deleted all the .apk files I wanted to delete and the corresponding files in the data/data folder but I can't find any .odex.
Also, does anyone know how I can delete the camcorder shutter sound? Thats the original reason why I wanted to root my phone. And to make it faster with a better battery life. I want the thing barebones.
Thank you
How are you removing them? Titanium backup is the easiest ws. Get the pro version and you can simply freeze them so they are out of the way and if you accidentally freeze something that makes your phone wonky. You just thaw it and it's all good again. If you delete the wrong file you can fubar you're phone. Be careful.

One way to silence you're shutter sound would be to make a recording of silence locate the sound file associated with your shutter. Make sure you're silent recording is of the same file extension, I'm guessing it would be ogg you can't just change the extension you will need to convert it if its not the same. Rename it to you shutter sound file and replace it with your silent sound file. You will need a file explorer. In the market.

I am using Titanium backup. But if you freeze apps, they are still on your phones memory, so that is why I delete them. I am done deleting now. I deleted the junk and things I don't use. So far everything is working great. Thank you for your concern. I understand what I am deleting, so I think!, and I am done now.
But with this freeze, maybe I can freeze the file with the camcorder shutter sound. Does any one know where it is?

No idea where it's located, you could use a file explorer to search for specific file types like
. Ogg you might find it That way. Search the Internet for an audio converter. Lots of free and open source ones.

Better yet hop on root explore and go down to system>build propt mount R/O and change the "0" at the end to "1" and save change and reboot. ro.media.capture.shuttertone=0
I forgot who came up with the tweak but not I.

I recommend this more than the custom apk. This method is built-in and in case for some reason you want the sound back, the option is just a checkmark away.
The apk is also just a check mark.

If you're rooted all you have to do is use Root Explorer and go into:
/system/media/audio/ui
Change the name of "CameraClick.ogg" to "CameraClick.bak"
You can do the same for the video record sound...simple.

Yes, but doing the build.prop mod allows the toggle to be done from within the camera app which makes it much easier to toggle, as opposed to having to switch to another app.
No need to install anything. The easiest solution is usually always the best.
Yes. I didn't know you could do it from the app. Though easiest isn't always best.

I'm trying to delete the file and it keeps saying it's read only iv'e tried changing the permissions and also the r\w on top no dice, lol what am i doing wrong
I just use Root Explorer and go to System/Media/UI then rename the Camera_Click.ogg to Camera_Clik.ogg just changing a single letter works and you can always restore it if wanted.
(You have to be Rooted)

Getting the bubbles back is an easy fix. Using an app like Root Explorer, make your way into System, then the CSC folder. In here, you'll see customer.xml. Rename this file to customer.xml.bak, and restart. Voila, notification bubbles!

mm I'm using revision3.
I tried renaming the entire files in CSC folder, still the same
Is there maybe something lines that in Customer.xml to activate the bubble, but allow us to kill the instruction?
Just for the information, I'm running CleanROM 3.5, and I don't get the tutorial notifications. Might just be ROM specific. I don't know what lines in the actual .xml file trigger the notification bubbles, I just know that this method helps to get them back. Sorry, guys!

It is the existence of Customer.xml itself that hides the bubbles. You can delete the contents of the file and it still doesn't bring back the bubbles. There is probably a settings line that needs to be added to show them.

On a rooted Stock ROM you can freeze the Help 1.0 application inside of TitaniumBackup. After a reboot you will have to go through the three lock screen tips once more but then you should not see them again.

So I went ahead and did this. I remember this from an older Samsung maybe my gs3 had it or my fascinate. I don't know maybe this used to have it but I like it. What does the use popup note selection do in the lock screen settings its been checked forever but I've never seen anything happen.
I know some people are running into problem trying to delete T-mobile bloatware. It looks like there is another way if you are rooted.
There is a built in script file to disable all the T-mobile crap on the phone. It must have been put in there by the LG people when they were testing the phone.
/system/etc/disable_tmus_packages.sh
So, if you are rooted, you can use a script manager (SManager) to run the script at boot up to disable all the bloatware without having to either freeze or delete the actual apk.
This script will also take out the CarrierQ stuff at the same time.
seems works. Thank you.
nice find...
Has anyone noticed performance improvements after doing this?
how to re-enable?
i'm trying to disable the sound notification for the stock email app and in the email app settings, the sound selection is disabled.
how can i enable the bloatware? i think there might be an app or setting in there that would let me change the sound setting for the stock email app.
i tried using SManager and de-selected the SU and Boot checkboxes and restarted but to no avail.
I use titanium backup to defrost the bloatware.

Great found , everything was already in the phone.
can you explain in detail how to do this?
Can someone explain in detail how to do this plz. I have smanager downloaded
While in smanager, go to /etc and find the disable_tmus_packages.sh. touch it and open as "script/executable" highlight the Su (android with bones) and touch run. Now all the bloatware will be frozen. If you want something to be enabled for example the com.tmobile.pr.mytmobile (which tells you how much messages, minutes, and data you used). Defrost it with titanium backup or and app that freezes/defrost apps. Lol, or just edit the disable_tmus_packages.sh and change disable to enable then run.

Edit : My bad. The correct answer is it only has to run once. The disable command will freeze the package.
It does not need to be run at each boot. All it does is save you the time of manually disabling an apk.

Hi guys,
I manage to get PageBuddy and AirView working on the ATT rom. Also was able to add SmartRotation & SmartStay (I dont know how they work or if I'm missing something to modify. I tried a couple of times. If someone can help me I'll be grateful)
Installation:
1. Extract rar file I717 Xtra Features.rar
2. Push SecSettings.apk to system/app and set permissions rw--r--r
3. Push SecLauncher2.apk to system/app and set permissions rw--r--r
4. Push SecGallery2_Galaxy.apk to system/app and set permissions rw--r--r
5. Push PageBuddyNotiSvc.apk to system/app and set permissions rw--r--r
6. Push com.sec.feature.hovering_ui.xml to system/etc/permissions and set permissions rw--r--r
7. Reboot and Enjoy. :fingers-crossed:
Download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gmknn2dy2678t1s/I717%20Xtra%20Features.rar
Update:
I have attached the calendar with Airview. Just flash in recovery (TRWP recommended). Remember to clear caches.
If i just install the "hover" and 'page buddy' Apks, will I get the air view function (seeing pop up previews in gallery and when watching videos) and the page buddy working 100 %? And does the 'smart rotation' and 'smart stay ' work at all on your note?
Thanks for all your efforts too man

I you just install hover then airview will only work with the video player, Email (Stock), Messaging (Stock). That's why you have to also push the gallery. THe gallery has the airview fix applied.
For PageBuddy, you need SecSettings.apk (so you can activate it), the PageBuddyNotiSvc in system/apps (Dont know what it does), the SecLauncher (This one is extracted from the Telus Rom. Thank God. Our SecLauncher does not have the page buddy.)
As for what is working I'll say that page buddy is working 100%. Inserted headphones and a new page for audio appear. Cannot test the dock part since I dont have a dock. SmartRotation and SmartStay can be toggled on, but after reading a bit about them an eye should have appeared in the status. For me it did not appear so I consider them half working.
I'm gonna try and do this right now, do you have any recommendations for the easiest way to 'set permissions'?

System\etc\permissions. The error looks like you don't have write access. You have to be mounted with read\write access in your file explorer.
