[Q] Bad battery life ? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone!
I got my Sony Xperia Z2 two days ago from Sony, and I'm noticing the battery isn't lasting nearly as long as the reviews (or official specs for that matter) say.
For example at 1pm it was fully charged, and now at 9pm (8 hours later) it's down to 58%, with a usage I would describe as moderate (mostly Wi-Fi use, streamed two YT videos, used chrome a little, listened to some music).
Yesterday I spent most of the day setting it up with apps and stuff and it died before the end of the day...
Coming from iOS I don't really know what to expect!
Please tell me about your battery and usage so I know if my expectations are too high or if my battery is acting weird.
Here are my battery settings.

Thanks guys!
(P:S: by the time I wrote this post my battery was down 4% for example)

Turn on stamina mode.
Also go into stamina mode by pressing the word and then tick restrict performance. I'm getting over 7 hours screen on time

Also, click on battery usage and then screen to show the screen on time. That's most important

Thanks for taking the time Jack!
So I did activate stamina mode, restricted performance and even turned on standby mode, only allowing two messaging apps to function when the screen is off, I'll see how it goes!
But so when Sony advertises "amazing battery life", are they implying "on stamina mode / restricting performance"? (I'm not being sarcastic, honest question here)
Because I thought those settings were for those of us who really wanted to go the extra mile, you know?
Anyway I'll just try it this way and I'll keep you updated.
Over the last 9 hours my screen was indeed on 50% of the time and used 70% of my battery. It seems like a lot as it's not on full brightness , it's like at 50%. But maybe the other adjustments will be enough to get good battery life while keeping an enjoyable screen quality!
Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it !
Have a nice day / evening (depending on where you live )

The battery usually takes a few days & charges before settling down, I have stamina mode on all the time but don't enable most of the other options other than restrict background data. I'm getting over 2 days usage & that is using it a lot & also plenty of gaming. Screen on time before I flashed the latest firmware was over 7 hours, my galaxy s3 usually managed 2-3 SOT before dying.

Yes I think I'll give it a few days before judging the battery performance!
2 days of SOT would be heaven, but I don't feel like mine would last two days with heavy use, no matter the settings...
I guess we'll see, thanks for your input!

I just posted a thread saying how to get amazing battery life in the general section. Have a look

This is the Q&A section of the board. You made a statement.
Apart from getting roughly 3 hrs of screen on time with around 63% of battery (this based purely on your screen shot & may not be entirely accurate given the complete lack of detail you've provided), this tells us pretty much nothing about your usage.
Well you've probably had about 3 hours screen time + 3g + Bluetooth on and connected as well. Seems fair to me.
Anyway, with so many battery related threads why not just post there instead of starting a new thread?

Really, what for new thread?
Not clearly...
Turn on GSM-only in the network settings. Turn off bluetooth and auto-brightness. Sync and background data also sucks the hell out of your battery ^^
this is my usage. the battery keeps reducing even during idle, with no wakelocks, by around 3% an hour. i've set the setting to gsm only, turned off wifi & bluetooth, turned off auto syncing, but its still like this.
and in the 2nd attachment picture is the rom i'm using
any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks
looks good but how is your on screen time?
is that considered good? cause i've seen a straight line (only losing 1 to 2% over 8 hours) during screen off time. i don't quite like it now cause i always fully charge before sleep, and when i woke up it only remains 70%....
on screen time, i've never fully use from 100% to dead, so cant be sure...
Try the JuiceDefender application (Market). The free version is good enough to help you out. I use the ultimate version and using my phone all day long (3g, internet, sync, gps) I can easily got 40% to 50% left at night (full charge in the morning).
i dun think i'll need juice defender...i always do everything it does (i.e turning off 3g, wifi, bluetooth, sync, gps) when not in use...
You need autostarts, I paid for it and its made having my phone possible.

Don't use Juice Defender. Unless you want to use more battery. It uses far more juice than it claims to save if many people on XDA's experience using it holds true. Plus, as Thonney quite rightly pointed out, many (most) of us already do the things it does manually which takes all of a few seconds & costs zero battery.

[Razr MAXX] DE-BUNKING the Razr maxx battery life

There seems to be a lot of speculation and hype over the razr maxx battery.
Some people get 2 - 3 days, some only 12 hours.
I for one, get about 12 hours with moderate - heavy usage (ocxasionally).
As we all hope for we want that 17 hour /21 hour talk time motorola tells us.
I am using a Gsm model, so i would have expected a longer talk time than the 4G lte versions. It is a 3200mah battery (4G gets the 3300mah?)
I only get about 12 hours of continuous usage (5 hours off the 17 hour benchmark)
So im going to ask everyone that owns a razr maxx to screen shot their talk time.
Using the gsam battery monitor app which gives a good indication of how much talk time left based on calculations and usage.
My talk time, stand by and average time left is here:

With cpuspy app; it is properly deep sleeping too and under locked to 300mhz on screen off:
1)What's everyone else's maxx battery life like? Please post screen shot
2) does your razr maxx battery read 3300mah or 3200mah? Mine reads 3200mah..
At the moment it's been 3 hours and it's - 8% already.. Only played Internet radio for 15 minutes which drained 2%

I'm finding it lasts just as long as my desire z, which had less than half the battery size! I get a day comfortably but that's not the 2 days comfortably I was expecting/hoping for.
Don't have a screenshot but on my last charge it was around 1 day 2hrs, screen on 2.5hrs, no wifi, gps/bluetooth off. Using gsam and cpuspy and all looks ok pretty much. Although, digging into gsam app sucker, I notice that kernel is always the highest and I also notice that the sensor useage (accelerometer/pressure) is always on roughly about the same as screen time but it has a LOT of wakelocks. Might try disabling that for a while.
But I feel I should be getting much longer than I do. I do have facebook but it's time on and wakeups don't suggest any abnormalites.
I see mention of some people finding out what size their battery was, how are they doing this? Battery monitor widget says 3200mA but is there another method people are using?
Also, I seem to lose roughly 5% an hour battery mostly idling, this seems far too much.
Screen shot 1st day had razr maxx. As a test I turned on absolutely everything I could, 4g, wifi, bluetooth, gps and maxed out screen brightness and managed to still squeeze out 16hours of battery life. The entire time I was listening to music, texting, surfing the web, watching video's while running a live wallpaper.

adb shell cat /sys/class/power_supply/battery/charge_full_design
Ah, that reminds me that I need to install adb. Would the android terminal emulator provide this on a non rooted?
EDIT: Yes it works. Battery is 3200.

(Q) Battery life

Ok so this is going to be a generic question
I'm thinking of buying droid DNA/ butterfly whatever it's called
Just wanted to know how's the battery life?
I'm a heavy user
So how long does it last under heavy usage?
Please share your experiences
Cuz I don't want to waste money on something that doesn't even last a few hours

I am what I consider a moderate user, I have got anywhere from 8-13 hours to a charge.
Awake time 2-4 was playing mp3's in my truck. Something I also did with my T-bolt all the time. I see people on other boards saying they stream music for 4-6 hours over wi-fi and still are getting more life than I am.

Hi, the battery holds up quite nicely even with the little 2020 battery. I can easily get at least 9-12 hours of moderate but mostly heavy use from the phone. The battery LIFE compares mostly to the S3 with this battery LIFE being slightly better from my tests.
Sent from HTC DNA "The beast of all beastly phones"
Moderate to heavy user: Get about 13-14 hours on a full charge with about 3-4 hours on screen time. Almost identical battery life to my S3 using stock Rom's as a basis for comparison.
This is what I see on a light day. Heavy usage is about 12-14 hours.

Been receiving OK battery life in the past few days using the ROM called super charged sense. You gotta try it out!

Good battery life!
Have the DNA for almost 2 weeks now, extremely happy with the battery...I was actually impressed with it...It is the first smartphone that actually last me a whole day...

My battery life isnt too bad. i unplug from home at 6:30 AM, i use maps and turn by turn navigation quite often, and normally stream a half hour show for lunch, and text and talk here n there. my battery on average lasts until about 3 PM before getting to about 5%
I am a fairly heavy user and I see between 10-13 hours out of a full charge.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
I use it and battery life is not good. It also depend on your app, and how you use it.
yeah same here, i get at least solid 8 hours, and that is constant kik'ing, texting, facebook, youtube, games. this phone is by far the best i ever had.
I closed the thread as there is enough feedback in here to answer the OP's question. However, and let this be a warning to all of you...
IF a thread is created in Q&A WITH a question, NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE has the right to say a word about anything other than replying to the question.

Anyone using the "charging optimization"?

Recent update also adds "soft change" which charging a bit slower, lower voltage and about 10% less (after restarted the phone it "adds" 10% re-calibrate\stretching ) after that the battery recognized as 2450 instead of 2700ma
it should save battery total life in expanse for shorter run time per charge
anyone using it?
( i usually using phone for 3-5 years b4 buying new one, so it's important to me of its working especially when the battery is not removable)

sorry for my pretty bad english
When i first heard about this, i didn't think much of it
Tried it last night and after a whole days usage, it still had 58% (Usually I would be on <10%)
I think it does help, just takes longer to charge

I think that was just a weird coincidence. It is my understanding this is meant to prolong the lifetime of the battery (from 1-2 years to 4-5 years).
And this means that with this "battery optimization" option enabled, when it reaches 0% with ("battery optimization" enabled) it actually still has 30% left, or some thing like that. It just lies to you that it's at 0% and shuts the phone down. And maybe also not put as much charge in the battery ie. instead of charging to the previous 100% it charges to only (what would have been)80% (but it still shows as 100%, because of a software change).
This results in putting less strain on the battery (by never actually fully charging or discharging), hence giving it a longer "lifetime" from the usual 2 years to 4 or 5 years. There is a study here about this.
In your case you were probably lucky that no app started misbehaving, or you used it less than usual. My battery level at the end of the day varies widely from day to day.
Where can I find this option? I can't find it in settings.
---------- Post added at 02:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:48 PM ----------
Never mind I found it. In About -> Status
If you don't need battery life much, just leave it on. They put it there for a reason.
But if you're the type that upgrades phones every year and you just want more battery life (day-to-day usage). Turn it off.
I turned it off.
is it affecting battery life or last longer? i mean the energy not the health of real batteries on phone
sorry i'm not good at english

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
First impressions - battery
With my old Samsung S5, if I wanted to play games at night, I needed to charge it in the end of the working day. With Redmi 5 plus I only charge when I go to sleep and it still has around 45 to 50% of available battery.
Before this I owned a redmi pro phone with 4000mah battery and I have to charge the phone about two to three times a day and with rn 5+ have to charge after one day of haves usage
42,5 hours from battery, 8 hours and 38 minutes screen-on-time

Update on screen on time
I have changed to global ROM (I was using the Chinese with English language) and it seems that the battery drains a little bit faster then before. Still it's enough for a day. At the end I have around 30%.
Not bad
From 90 percent. Miui 9.2.13.0.
Mine only 2 days
Only wifi and some music.
Very nice.
On LTE whole day
In my experience no matter what your android is you need to charge it at the day end. As for mi note 5 with calls, gaming and networking it reaches bottom by day end.
The screen on time is very good!! It minimum last me for 6 hours if I'm use it with very heavy gaming and 9hours I get in maximum SOT with normal use.
Note: I'm a heavy user! Facebook, Instagram, wechat, whatsapp, Twitter, dragon nest m, crusader quest, and etc. More than 80app in my phone.
Awesome and very impressive battery life on the Vince!
Just got my device a day ago. Charged it up to 100% and then updated apps/ OS.
My usage is limited to YouTube, Telegram and some light gaming only as this is my secondary device.
Mostly on WiFi. Using a Jio sim for data.
Not rooted and no battery optimisation done yet.
I guess I am the first user to post SOT on custom ROM.
I really hate MIUI!
I've been using the latest Liquid Remix and I am very pleased!
