As I mentioned in another thread, I got my Omate from Amazon.jp. It is being sold by a Japanese company who imported it from a supply in their HK warehouse. It is the kickstarter edition.
Anyway, my watch came with some Chinese apps such as something called kiwi.
http://www.in189.com/thread-996575-1-1.html
There also seemed to be some Chinese text to speech stuff. The rest of the apps were a music player, video player, image player, recorder, google maps etc, google play store and some calendar type apps. I also have the Ostore.
I'm interested to learn if there is something missing that has been replaced in the US/EU versions.

On the Lumia in Belgium, there is no Music Store. You are stuck with online radio but you can't have access to the Nokia Music Store. Has any Belgian people been able to activate it ?
You can see on the add of the product on the Belgian Nokia web site (flash presentation) that there is mp3 store but in fact there is not !
Seems to be false add?
There is a trick to do that, at least it works in Czech republic (where we are also not supported by Nokia Music).
Before installing the app, change your phone locale to UK for example. Install the app and you will have access to all the features. Then you can change locale back, features will stay in Nokia Music.
I felt this question really belonged in Applications but when I tried to post it as a question it told me I was breaking the rules and had to post it here - so here goes!
I am using the excellent FB Reader with the TTS plug in and ivona english voice - which I find does a great job of reading text based content. I use it all the time for articles downloaded from the web so I can listen to them in the car.
It does however have a big limitation in that it cant read protected content, such as books downloaded from Google Play. Most of the books I want to read are not available in audio editions and even whent they are you pay a high premium to have them professionally read, wheras I am quite comfortable with the TTS solution.
I do know that the google reader app can do this but only if you turn on the accessibility funtion which then reads back everything to you, which I dont want. I want to be able to decide between listening to a book and reading it on screen and switch between reading and listening within the same book
Annoyingly with copyright free books google reader does use TTS but will only do so for protected books if you turn accessibility on - crazy! Also the Help email on google books simply doesnt work - just takes you to a developer page!
Does anyone know of a reader. compatible with google play books, which has a TTS plug in. I originally got the suggestion for FB reader from here so hoping that someone can help
I have a US SGS3, not-rooted - AT&T released an OS update yesterday, and now MirrorLink / DriveLink is functional.
Using the Sony XAV-601BT, firmware updated from UK Sony website, Samsung Drivelink APK installed via USB, from the other MirrorLink thread.
When I plug the unit into USB before I would get a message "USB device not recognized", and would then stream Pandora via Bluetooth. Now it auto-launches DriveLink, Navi works, phone works, music works, but only supports Mp3, etc. files at the moment.
Frankly, I was hoping for more app support (eg ability to launch Pandora, Waze, etc.) - right now it only works with built in Google Maps Navi, Phone book, and local files for Music. Something which is annoying, is that I cannot use Bluetooth audio streaming for Pandora at the same time as DriveLink, so the solution is imperfect - I can now use DriveLink navigation, but not Pandora, Or I can exit fully out of drivelink, and listen to Pandora; music or nav, not both - so while it now launches and works, I still cannot use it regularly.
As a bit of an aside, when I first bought my SGS3 I installed an AppRadio2, which was horrible and got exchanged for the XAV-601BT. Now, however, within the last week, there's been progress on fully unlocking control of android using the AppRadio2:
Youtube link "PFiAWrItAdE" (can't post URL)
Seems like the ultimate solution, away from the nanny limitations of DriveLink, although one would imagine, since these limitations are with Samsung's software, a 3rd party app could provide a similar experience with the MirrorLink standard. So perhaps be patient for 6 months, or switch back to AppRadio2, and hope the laggy connection issues have been fixed.
scorp, welcome to XDA!
Many of us feel the same about Samsungs app - pretty poor effort so far Please check out the last few pages of this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837847&page=15 (from about page 12 onwards)
A growing number of members here are trying to build a donation 'bounty' in the hope that we can get a developer interested in playing with the Samsung Mirrorlink app and removing the current restrictions to allow full mirroring of the whole phone (meaning all apps on the headunit).
The more support we get the more chance of making this a reality, if you'd be willing to donate something to see this happen please make a post in that thread (also stating your phone model and ROM/firmware) and I'll add you to the list.
Thanks,
Olywa
If any members have any interest at all in mirrolink/drivelink (mirroring phone display and control on supported car headunits) please do take a look at the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837847&page=15
Only just yesterday Google Music was introduced into countries outside the US such as the UK, something I have been looking forward to for some time, however the free music (search free google play music) is shown as paid, does anyone know whether or not this is exclusive to US customers or is Google got a bug on it hands?
Thanks
Hi Guys,
Apparently, the Nexus TV player in the UK has a Now TV App. I was wondering if anyone will be able to provide me with the apk for the app. I tried sideloading the one from the Google Play store, but it loads sideways and I cannot navigate it using the remote. I am hoping this won't be the case with the Now TV app on the UK Nexus Player.
Any one at all? Pretty Please
It is apparently pre-installed on the UK version of the nexus player if that helps?
i'm in the UK and there is no NowTV app for the nexus player in the play store.
there is also no pre-installed app either.
I am in the UK as well and can confirm there is no preinstalled app, if there was one I think this would make me subscribe to the service.
ive only just picked an NP, updated to android 8 'O' and sideloaded a few apps after installing forced landscape app to fix the portrait display of now tv, all4 & itv hub.
i have the latest now tv app running fine apart from errors when i try playing a show. logs in fine & displays full menu & navigates well with mouse. i'm gonna try a fire tv fixed app to see if that works.
unfortunately i had All 4 working completely until this evening when i got an update notice with forces me to the store with no means of updating. itv hub has never worked & iplayer works without issue. a real mixed bag.
thank god it's got chromecast function otherwise i'd be furious with this very limited device. rooting seems inevitable.
