Overall, what is the best ROM for both gaming (android-native) as well as emulation? I want a ROM that does the following very well:
-Tegra 2 gaming
-NES/SNES/N64 emulation
-Bluetooth support for connecting controllers
-HDMI out to TV
I don't care if it's 1.1 or 1.2 bootloader, I want to setup whatever will work the best.
What're your thoughts? Thanks!
I haven't done tegra 2 games yet but I've had no issues connecting a wiimote & using nesoid with roebeet's Brilliant Corners.
I'm proud to say I just beat the orginal Zelda (both quests) without help except finding level 6 on quest 2. That would have taken forever to find. I know no one cares but I was excited.
I'm using CM7 Stable
-Tegra 2 gaming - Tested on Gun Bros, Pinball HD, Fruit Ninja, Riptide GP, Samurai Vengeance II with no Lag and clean graphics.
-NES/SNES/N64 emulation - Verified working on all of them
-Bluetooth support for connecting controllers - Unknown
But Able to connect using USB bluetooth wireless keyboard/mouse combo.
If you want to see a video of how they all look on CM7. see here

Okay so I've seen plenty of videos on YouTube of the SGS2 playing N64 flawlessly on their bigscreen TVs with PhoneJoy and an MHL adapter, so I figured our EVO 3Ds should be able to handle it too... but so far that hasn't been the case for me.
Has anyone come up with a working configuration to get emulation to work without like 10frameskips?! I've tried multiple ROMs, kernels, overclocking, all sorts of different emulators... I can't even get simple SNES games to work well enough to be standable let alone N64. Tried all of yongzhs emulators but those are too outdated and don't work smoothly. Best experience I've had was with SuperGNES because its not a port it is android native, still have to give it about 4frameskips though which is much too choppy. Looking to get about 1-2 max. Any thoughts and ideas are most appreciated!
If u don't mind could u tell me what kind of games u want to emulate like n64 or perhaps gameboy games
But Well u can try gameboid for that games. it works pretty fine for me O(∩_∩)O

I dont know if it a Sense related problem or something, but any 1080p video lthat I play using MHL on a big screen is to much choppy and fps are too low....while the same videos works fine without MHL.
I really hope all this is resolved when ICS and sense 3.6 or 4.0 OTAs are released...

thats because most mhl adapters can only push 24hz making it look choppy. cannot say if the oem htc or samsung adapters are any better however i have heard that both image, sound and framerate are better.

I use samsungs MHL adapter for the 3D , it cannot play 1080p videos at optimal framerate.
This is exactly why they should have just stuck with a dedicated HDMI port... Not to mention USB host is pointless with a TV because the port is taken up for the video-out.

my kernel is pusing 1080p @ 120hz (so 3d works on the your hdmi big screen) - verified working by both gsm and cdma users.
*per my personal experience and that of users posted their feedback on my threads
issue: it only works for some, not others
not sure if its a cable issue or a phone/hardware limitation that only applies to some phones
i personally am using a samsung cable - its the only cable that works w/ my phone @ 120hz
I will try your Anthrax kernel to see if it makes a difference for me. I was on test06 last week but I decided I couldn't deal with my camera preview and landscape gallery not working. Do you have a newer kernel up now that i can go grab?
test is the latest - and hdmi/mhl on most 2.17 based roms is borked ... due to the gpu issues im working on (same issue that affects landscape video and camera preview - all related)
I have recently bought the following items:
1xSamsung MHL adapter
1xHama standard HDMI Cable
in the hope of connecting my Galaxy S2 to my LG HDTV to watch movies but I have encountered some problems.
First the video output on the TV is lagging.Dvdrips and 480p res. plays fine but anything over starts to lag.At 1080p it lags the most( it is watchable but it's very annoying).Everything runs perfectly smooth on the phone, they just lag on the TV.
Another problem is with the phone, sometimes it freezes after I disconnect it from the TV and I have to restart it to work again.
Also if I move the phone too much the TV looses the signal, altough all I have to do is move it again until it gets it back.
My question to xda is what could be causing all of this?
Is it the HDMI cable(poor quality?) or could it be the TV?It is rather old(about 3 years).
Or could it be the HDMI adapter(doesn't connect properly?).
And what about the phone? It is currently running the stock gingerbread 2.3.4 (unrooted) that came with the phone. Will installing a different ROM solve the problem? What are the best ones for this type of thing?
bump
Every so often I have most of those issues but haven't had any lag. I'm running checkrom. I also alternate between siyah and cf root kernels and TV out runs better with the cf root kernel. So, maybe try a different rom and see if that helps.
I have a generic adapter but from what I've read both stock and generic have the same issues.
Also there is a thread somewhere here dedicated to the HDMI adapter. Google and you should find it.

Thanks for the feedback.I am thinking of installing the latest ICS.To anyone that has it installed, how does it perform when it comes to playing videos and such through HDMI?Any improvements?
Edit:Any good experiences with other ROMS's relating to HDMI output? Please post them.

Will not work at all on my rooted XWLP3 but it worked perfectly on Gingerbread ROM
Thanks for sharing.Looks like I'll have to look for another ROM.

Same lag here. Using Omega v10 ICS 4.0.3.
THinking about to change to another one.
I have some 1080p movies on it and want to see it on TV
Can I install a version of 4.0 or better to my rooted X2 that will never see service again? It's laying here I thought I would use it to stream video and do some gaming on my garage TV where I'd rather not put better devices. I've seen that I can run MIUI or possibly a cyanogenmod to get 4, but if I could just install a starndard build Android 4.0 and connect over wifi I'd be pretty happy with that. Thoughts? Ideas?

You'd probably be better off just using a stock rom. You'd get much better video playback, especially with Netflix and DLNA. I use mine to stream videos from my PC alot. Gaming results may vary. There are a few newer games that only work in 4.0+ but for the most part, all the good games work fine.

One app I want to use requires 4.0+ and that is Time Warner Cable. Of Course, I could always actually run cable out there, but what fun is that, lol. If need be the latest stock update + root will suffice for Netflix, hulu +, youtube, pandora, Google Music, my usual Android games and some emulators.
Stick with stock or even CM7. A lot of apps wont work if you go to 4.x and theres nothing we can do about that.
Heyyooo folks!
Iv seen alot of people having trouble connecting their ps3 controllers to there note 4s and all they get is thoose crazy blinking lights instead of the one light that should be their and not blinking so i made a guide on how to do it easily, maybe people already know about what they need to do but if you don´t and want to learn how to do it just visit my youtube channel and check out the guide, it´s a very simple method and all you really need is the sixaxis app, a device that is compatible with the app, and titanium backup, i think this goes for all devices running 4.4.4 but im not 100% sure, but for our note 4 this is the way to go.
So if you got this problem please head on to my video and i explain it for you in real time and also i got a full description guide written in the video for thoose of you who never before changed the master bluetooth setting in your ps3 controller with your PC.
Here is the link to the guide, im also doing alot of game reviews, rom reviews, and all kinds android related stuff as im a android lover.
