I have been developing a remote control client for Windows Phone for a while now. I am now opening up beta program so that it can be tested heavily. It'd be great to have feedback from the XDA community. Here are a few details and some FAQs about beta testing. If you're absolutely sure that you want to be a tester, jump directly to the bottom of this post.
What should I expect from this beta?
Well, you should expect what you generally expect from beta software. Cutting edge, burning hot software with new features and a few bugs here and there. Specifically, you might run into some memory management issues, but they shouldn't stop you from trying it out.
What do I need to be a beta tester?
Patience and tolerance: You should understand that the app might behave unexpectedly sometimes.
A Windows Phone 8 device: That's where you test the app.
XBMC: You need to have XBMC running somewhere on your network. That's what you're trying to control using this app.
A Microsoft account: You will need to have a Microsoft Id associated with your phone to be a beta tester.
How do I become a beta tester?
Just give me your Microsoft Id here. I won't sell it to anyone. I won't spam either.
How do I report issues?
You may create an issue on Github here.
You may post it on this thread.
You may contact me over the twitter at @akshay4000.
At times Google+ can be a good choice.
Can I contribute to the code?
I'm glad you asked. Here is the Github repo: https://github.com/akshay2000/XBMCRemoteWP. Fork it, fix something, make some commits and make a pull request. I'll be glad to take contributions. Just make sure that the code is pretty.
Again, here is the link if you want to be a beta tester: http://bit.ly/1iW5c3z
Thank you all for the support.
Well, your app crashes and brings me back to the main screen, after adding the IP of my xbmc.

Just pushed an update. Check back in a few hours. That should fix it. Oddly enough, same app worked fine when deployed from my local machine, but crashed when downloaded from marketplace.
So, if this new version crashes, we know that store is messing with it.
Updated your app but it still crashes.

Sorry about that! At this point, you're probably losing the patience, but I've pushed another update. And I'm certain that this will solve it. Please, give it a try. Version should be 1.0.0.2 - the latest one.
Edit: Just checked. The latest version goes without any crash. Can you verify that?
Without a crash but I am not able to connect the app with my xbmc (raspberry pi). With other app I have no problem to connect.

If you have password set up on XBMC, the app might not connect. Update is being pushed out which will fix this. Update the app in a few hours. Sorry for the trouble. Till then you can test the app by disabling the passwords.

Second Release
Right, you need to download the website and the application. Both of which i have now attached to this thread.
Follow the same process you did with the initial release, however, DO NOT edit the config file. There is now a tab in the app for this, please use this instead.
Also, there is now a log file if something goes wrong. It is called 2me2u_logfile.log and will be created in the same folder as the executable.
Initial Release: http://www.spikedsoftware.co.uk/blo...sending-smss-via-your-mobile-using-interwebs/
Evening guys,
I don't know about you, but i'm tired of texting from my whone when i'm at my desk. It's a long process and makes it look like i'm not busy at my desk, especially if i'm having a bit of a discussion with friends.
So i decided to write an app that sits on the phone, waiting for SMS's to be sent. You login to a web portal (which the app also logs into) and create your SMS there (as many as you wish) and when the app checks (every 1s to 300s) it'll download the messages you want to send, then send them. With a delivery report if you so wish.
Also looking for more features to add in once released, for example, SMSing you where your phone is, if you've lost it. Using the GPS.
It's still early, but that app is nearly programmatically complete. It's not very pretty, nor is the website. Hoping to get time this week to tidy it all up and get a test release out.
Watch this space Not even sure if this sort of app will be popular!
Will also be posting release information to my blog, http://www.spikedsoftware.co.uk

Not sure if this app will be popular!! Who are you kidding?
They charge a lot for this kind of thing, so it isn't cheap. If you want free hosting, let me know - I am not sure what methods you will be using for this, but as long as you know how to create the site, I can host it.
Thanks for the offer, for the moment i have hosting sorted however
Do you have the urls to the competitors?
Cheers,
Dean
Sounds good, but how will this differ from, say, mIQ? That allows you to send and receive SMSs via the web.
Huh... didn't actually see that on the web there.
Safe to say it's far more advanced that my application would be anytime soon. The only difference would be my remote GPS finder and that i had a plan to develop an app for Android.
Not much point now.
Thanks for finding that before i got too far into development!
sounds great, looking forward to it
Other than remote GPS finder, will there be any other special features?
Looks like i won't be continuing, mIQ already have the app i'm creating!
Well don't lose interest just yet. A dedicated solution just for that task, especially one I could host on say my own website would be a much preferred solution for me than yet another social site having access to all my information.
Its a cool idea, but I could see how people would be concerned with privacy. My text messages aren't always PG nor are the discussions always "legal". I personally don't concern myself with privacy anyhow.
Right now I just run MyMobiler and tether the phone to my PC and use the phone GUI with my keyboard. This app/service WOULD be very helpful for people with ridiculously strict IT departments and people who don't use Windows OS on their workstations. I'll definitely check it out when released. Sounds cool.

+1, a server that YOU choose would be fairly better than having to use a common service that would store our data...
The webserver could be our pc, or why not, getting a way to get it working throught a php script that could be hosted on any host we want to
Just my opinion...
[APP - Release] Send SMS from your PC, RELEASED.
Well, you guys are on the exact train i am.
Basically, i was going to host it on my site, and if people were interested, then open it up for registration etc. However, you're right, Privacy was a worry and i'm not sure i like my information being held by someone else, i only just allowe Facebook to.
So, i'll continue, get it polished up, then release a package that people can deploy wherever the hell they want
Hopefully this weekend some time, i would imagine? Busy all week
Cheers guys!
thats the spirit man.. just checked out that other software.. exactly the sort of thing i DIDN'T want.. uninstalled it within 5mins of messing around.
Looking forward to your solution! sounds much more like the sort of thing I would be interested in (and many more im sure)
Anyone think of a good name? :\
Working on it at the moment

Because you need to be able to get to your phone, i.e. ActiveSync or via WiFi.
I don't know about you, but at my place of work, we don't have any drivers installed on the machines to allow us to use USB Devices, other than the keyboard and mouse. And we don't have WiFi that will get us onto the main network. So that option would be out.
Sounds really cool, I'd definitely use it. Right now I just use MyMobiler and just type with my pc keyboard on my phone under the keyboard on ABC. Works fine for me now, but my phone needs to be plugged in if I want to use it.
Hey all,
Thanks for the support, very early release can be found here.
Please can you all try it, let me know how you get on. It's very simple, but it does the trick.
Cheers,
D
Sounds like a good idea, but not sure how many people know this, but as long as you know that format for a carrier you can actually send a message via e-mail to a person's phone as a text.
For Sprint it's <10 digit number>@messaging.sprintpcs.com
for AT&T it's <10 digit number>@txt.att.net and to send MMS to ATT it's @mms.att.net
I have a list of HUNDREDS of the formats somewhere I will post if you all want.
Could you? Would be interesting. Thanks.
Any tried it yet? I've had alot of views and no feedback?
Looks like the new Trillian IM client is now available and is open beta. It has a expiration date until the end of the beta. Wanted to give you guys a heads up if anybody else was interested in this multi-IM client.

I tried it, it is not very good. I prefer ebuddy or IM+
On the contrary, it's a very solid app. Then again, I am unsure of your expectations for this app.
I love the app unfortunately after opening and having one conversation it refused to open any new conversations.
Thanks for the heads up. I always loved trillian on my pc.
I find it frustrating that this app doesn't tell me why aol won't sign in. is it my password, is it the network, wtf? Doesn't even give me a sign in failed alert. Im+ is the same way. It's been a while since I used im where I'm not auto-signed in and figuring out all my passwords is gonna take some work. Clearly these apps are not gonna make it easy.
Yeah. I had a really weird problem that it didn't log in, i had to close it THEN when I finally got in.. I couldn't even send a IM to anybody, and when I logged onto another s/n attempting to message myself, it never went thru unless I signed out and resigned back in.
The interface does look pretty nice though, definitely needs some working but this is a Beta so i didn't have expectations that it would be bug-free. Most definitely going to give Trillian another go when the next beta build is released.
One of the big perks with using Trillian for Android is it's integration with the desktop client. When you change something on your computer (add a friend, change a name, change a user group, etc.) it is automatically updated on the Android client. Also, they are adding synchronized logging to an upcoming build. That means the conversations you have while you are mobile will be transferred to the desktop client and all versions (Windows, Mac, iPhone, Blackberry, Android) will live in harmony without having your logs scattered all over the place.
The bigger bugs like connection issues, message sending issues and crashes will be hammered out pretty quickly so it should be much more stable in the very near future. If you do experience a crash you should be given the opportunity to send a log to the developers (please use it!). If you have a stomach for Bugzilla you can report the bugs and feature requests directly:
http://bugs.ceruleanstudios.com/
Login: beta
Pass: beta
On a side note... The Voice To Text option in conjunction with Trillian is pretty awesome. I was amazed at how fast and accurate Android's VTT is. It was even accurate while driving on the highway with a lot of background noise.
Finally Teamviewer has released a beta version of there app for Android devices. Just tried it on my phone and its simply amazing.
Mobile and flexible with the TeamViewer App
* Support your clients and colleagues spontaneously.
* Access your office desktop with all of its documents and installed applications.
* Remotely administer unattended computers (e.g. servers).
* Free for non-commercial use: support family and friends or have remote access to your own computer.
You can download and install the App using your Android web browser. Due to this direct download and installation you will have to enable the following option in Android once: Settings - Application settings - Unknown sources (enable).
The beta version includes a time limit and can be used until the 28-Feb-2011. More information about licensing options will follow with the release of the final version.
Non-commercial users will also be able to use the final version of the TeamViewer App for Android for free!

I dont think this just came out. Ive had Teamviewer on my Vibrant for a while now.
Edit- I just looked and the one on their site is v.6.0.127, the one I have is v6.0.100, and doesnt have a time limit, and its been working all this time, so Im assuming it wont stop when this one does either.

Using the CM7 alpha that was briefly available here.
I'm trying to access my employer's citrix server. I've installed the receiver and configured everything properly. I can login, but before it displays my apps, I get an error that says:
Too many server redirects.
I get the same error when accessing the web interface using the default Browser or Dolphin. I installed UCBrowser, and it properly displays the apps. However, when I click them, it simply downloads the ica file, rather than opening it. If I use a file manager and click on the ica file, nothing happens. If I long press it and select Citrix Receiver, nothing happens.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to get this working?
As the alpha was pulled for various reasons as well as not being ready, I would recommend waiting for a stable release as that problem could be resolved with a future release.
I understand where you are coming from... but the alpha was pulled for reasons not related to this issue. I also had the same problems using Snowball. I'm hoping there is some configuration that will ignore the multiple server redirects...
I just tried it my Evo 4G, running stable CM 7.1, and have the same issue... works fine on my windows and Linux boxes, and on my co-workers iPhone.
Sounds like an overall Android issue. Maybe try the Android forum?

I did read that thread, and tried opera (and a few other browsers) with no success... I'm not sure what APN is though... I'll see if anyone in the general Android forum has seen this.
You might also want to email one of the Citrix Reciver developers, to see if you can download an earlier version of Citrix for testing. They used to have 2.1 and 2.2 on the website, but I don't see that page anymore.

SWEET. This is amazing, finally an app that is actually seamlessly between pc and phone.
Edit: Now I don't have any error I just love it
I get an error with the windows app, can I send you a PM ? @hamzahrmalik
I saw the video very useful app im gonna test it right now but chrome said its virus look into it..of course it isn't but just let you know!
This amazing. I'm totally interested in the OSX compatibility. Keep at, man.
I would be very interested for osx compatibility.
Thanks. Been waiting for an app like this. My Norton also said it was a virus. On the other hand, I have multiple network cards because I use virtual machines and the program obtains the ip of those vm network, is there a way to change this?
Looks similar to pushbullet.
This does seem better for android emulation as copy paste is very clunky at the best of times.
it is a false positve virus guys that is the way it was just simply put it on the exclusion list

Would love to see Os x integration, left windows 2 years ago and haven't looked back since. Sounds like a great module.
I always get same page, regardless of what i open in Chrome/Youtube.
These are steps i took:
- enabled module in Xposed Installer and restarted
- installed and started PC app
- typed IP and saved in Android app
- alowed both .exe files through firewall
- started service on PC
Im using N9005 Note 3 with TouchWiz. Page i get on double click is page i open frequently on phone. Devices are on same WiFi.

When you start the PC make sure you also start the service using the "start sevice" button. You can check it's started by looking for Java Binary in Task Manager (see screenshot below)
What page is it always opening? Is it one you have visited on your phone (what I'm asking is, has it ever worked)
Please add Mac OS X 10.11 support!
Wonderful idea! However I'm on OSX so I guess we'll have to wait a bit longer to see if it's worthwhile. Meanwhile I can test things for you during my free time.
